more RP going on
[/ QUOTE ]
What liar told you that? Union always had the better roleplaying environment.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think he meant more variety of RP going on, rather than just dozens of middle-aged men cybering each other with their teenage lesbian catgirls.
[/ QUOTE ]
You really have no clue, do you GG?
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed that for you. -

also gives you semi KB protection
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't. They changed it a while back. Neither Hover or Fly offer any KB protection. In i13 a small Knock Down resistance was added to Hover but any knock back effect just leaves you floating in mid air for a couple of seconds, for the same time it would take you to get back up if you'd been knocked down without Hover/Fly.
It was changed AFAIK to make it less useful when they made the changes to KB/KD/KU, which IIRC was also when acrobatics was changed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure that is quite correct. I recall seeing a post from BABs stating that the amount of time spent floating there semi-stunned is half that spent on your back if knocked down. However players on the US boards seem to have contested this. I can't find the post at the moment though so can't verify this.
Either way, I find the effect of a KB attack while hovering much less annoying than being knocked off my feet. But that's just personal opinion. -
Actually, I will add a small caveat to my earlier comment: some teams can easily slice through purple mobs but they are few and far between. They also tend to be teams where there's a lot of -Def and +Dam buffs/debuffs which go some way to countering the effects of jacking the difficulty up too high. However, these tend to be rare.
-
[ QUOTE ]
It's a misperception around rate of XP.
Purple mobs give more XP. Some people assume that this means that you earn XP faster by fighting them. They seem to ignore the fact that you hit them less often and for less damage, so it takes longer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly this. It basically comes down to people being bad at maths and unable to work out that taking down 5 red bosses in 2 minutes is worth more than 1 purple boss that takes 10 minutes.
If it's any consolation, I've been on teams just like this as well. -
[ QUOTE ]
Deffo not a useless power, if you think it's useless you don't know how to slot it and where to use it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. I love hover on my squishies - keeps them out of range of enemies and gives excellent manouverability once slotted.
The fact of the matter is, there are some powers in the game that are great right out of the box. However there are others that require slotting to become awesome. Hover is one of them. Once you've got 3 Flight IOs in it, it becomes very fast at higher levels, my 50 overtakes people sprinting. If people want to complain about it being useless unslotted then I might as well complain about things like Consume, Flash, Cloak of Fear etc.
If you really want to save slots on your travel powers, take the Leaping pool, neither CJ or Superjump require slots to be great. -
Combat Jumping costs a piddly bit of endurance, give Immobilization resistance and a small bit of defence as well as increased jump height.
So no, not really anything like Hurdle and far from useless. -
I like the idea, but it would be far too easy to overpower a toon.
However, I do like the idea of acquiring powers temporarily. There are a couple of missions on Villains where you are temporarily given a few Warshade/Nictus powers and I always enjoy those for the variety, no matter how fleeting it is. I'd like to see some more of those kind of missions. So for example, for one mission your Blaster gets to run around in Rock Armour or one mission where you get to cripple mobs with a couple of Rad powers - that would be fun. But not permanent. -
What I'm curous to know is why every person who brings up this subject thinks that there's something new to discuss? It's been talked about over and over again in plenty of threads which never end pleasantly. It's tiresome, unconstructive and does nothing but make any new players visiting this forum think the game is doomed. Oh, and it depresses the living snot out of me. Just the sight of some doom laden title in the active topics list makes we want to know 'why!? What is it this time!?"
Instead of whining on the board, why not go and do something helpful to the community? Organise a TF, a PvP tornament, a badge hunt, costume contest, anything! Fun is where you make it and if all you do is log on and wait for someone to invite you to a team, you're could well be disappointed.
And no, I don't think the closure of TR means anything to CoX. Auto Assault came and went and we kept going, this'll be no different. If you take a look at what's been invested into this franchise, there's plans afoot. Be patient, get involved and enjoy what you've got. Hell, read one of the other hundred threads on this subject and get some perspective. But the last thing we need is yet another doom thread going over the same old nonsense. -
[ QUOTE ]
Or maybe it's because potential players looking for more information on CoX come to the forums and see DOOM! posts like the OPs and think, "This game is failing I'll go to WoW instead."
Bravo The_Phantoms! You're making things worse!

*Applause* (And the reason why I find 'doom' threads unhelpful.) -
Congratulations, enjoy your VEATs. I'm still 9 levels behind, but hopefully not for long. Roll on next DXP.

A sticky outlining NCSofts current position on merges would be useful, but one proclaiming it to be a 'bad idea' I don't see happening. That's a pretty subjective opinion Dante. It would kinda tie their hands, and preclude any clever solution they may come up with to solve the downsides.
[/ QUOTE ]
Forgive me, it's late at night and my nerves are a bit raw. But yes, what I meant was a sticky outlining NCSoft's current position. These threads never tend to end well I'm tired of seeing them.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm bowing out of this one here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good idea. I'm doing the same. -
[ QUOTE ]
Probably this topic has been discussed, but i can't seems to find any treads.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're really not looking hard enough. Throw a stone, you're sure to hit one.
Ghostraptor, can we get a stickied message at the top of this board stating clearly why a server merge is a bad idea and why it's not going to happen? Might stop this bad penny coming up every two weeks. -
I kind of agree with Sapphic, it's nice to have additions to the game, especially ones that the community have been clamouring for (supposedly). However, with VEATs being moved to i12 and the MA being moved to i14, it's left i13 looking a little empty after a lot of build up. For me, it's all a little underwhelming but I'm sure some people are going to get a lot of fun out of it. So far, the badge interface is my favourite feature, neither of the new powersets appealling to me.
Personally, I really wanted Pain Domination to be more aggressive using powers that would take pain from your allies and transferring it back to your foes. Kind of like Dark Miasma but more focused on healing than debuffing. Ah well, tis not to be it seems.
However, the biggest disappointment is the Merits System. I was very excited that they were going to introduce rewards for story arcs and GMs. But given that they only drop on the mission arc owner, the outrageous prices from the vendors and the fact that they're not transferrable between toons, I am very, very disappointed. This change has pretty much killed the Invention system for me. A good idea, but very poorly implemented.
So overall i13 = overall poor. Some really nice ideas but not well thought out. A shame really. Roll on i14 please. -
Well it was going to happen at some point, thats what I say! Yes, thats right folks, Im going to say it loud and proud, the metas are finally turning on themselves. I mean, come on, how long was it going to be before one of them finally turned rogue and started blowing up their own kind? All I can say is, Im glad they did this in their own damned clinic and not in some regular hospital for regular people! Keep it to yourselves guys, we ordinary folks suffer enough as it is. We let these folks roam around spewing fire and radiation and god knows what and were the ones who have to pick up the pieces. All those fire crews and PPD units in Kings at the moment, who do you think pays for them all? Thats right bucko, you and me, Joe Public.
Its all well and good having some clinic for those with out of control powers but did they ever stop to consider that maybe their public relations exercise was less important than making sure that some kid with nuclear powers was kept off the streets? Of course not! This clinic was all about giving the Militia and the Hyperion Watchmen a good rap with the public, cleaning up the streets and helping the homeless and all that. And now guess what, they got what they deserved, one of their own has finally gone BOOM on them. And the irony of this all happening only a few weeks after these Pure Tomorrow flyers started whizzing around is just icing on the cake. We normal humans have had enough, its time to start taking your fight elsewhere guys and keep us out of the firing line

Sonic/Sonic - 2
Dark/Sonic - 8
I love both Dark and Sonic sets and put together the amount of -res and -acc they can do to either large mobs or individual AVs makes this the winning combination here. -
[ QUOTE ]
Imho for the bruiser, they should've removed any ranged attack at all.

Agreed. My Thugs/Dark is too busy to micromanage. -
The Amber Banshee is still active and released an album earlier this year under her civillian name of Saffron Mackenzie. She's mainly soft pop/rock type music (Sheryl Crow/Michelle Branch type) but has sung for classical/opera as well. The album was self-released so no label and it hasn't done well enough to release her from her day job as librarian at Steel Canyon University. But she still plays in bars and places around Paragon every now and again with moderate success.
She'd quite easily be talked into a charity concert.

Indeed. Kinetics is great for the team for +end, +res and +dam but once buffed, I'm wondering what kind of effect I can have on tough opponents. If all I can contribute to a team is buffs, I may as well roll an Empathy toon. But I like being able to weaken foes significantly as well, making them easier for the team to take down. I currently have an Illusion/Kinetics Controller and dole out Speed Boost liberally to all that want it but if I roll a Kin Defender (as I'm planning to) I'll be playing the Kin side a lot more aggressively and want to know if I can have a significant effect on an AV or other foes as well as buffing the team.
From what I've read though, it seems that I will be able to severely dent the damage output of foes and hit their regen and recharge as well. So if I joined and average PuG and was the only person with Defender sets, would Kinetics on its own be enough to hamper an AV or equivalent? Hope that makes sense and thanks for the help so far. -
So pretty good then it seems. Probably not at the top but sufficient to help debuff a boss or AV a little. Ok, that's good to know.
So how much difference do secondaries make? I know Sonic is much loved for its -res debuffs but I have a Sonic Blaster and Corruptor so fairly certain I don't want to do that set again. I'm currently looking at Ice or Electric however I've played a Dark/Elec and almost cried at how bad the damage was. Will the self-buffing of Kinetics make that any better? Or is it taken purely for Short Circuit? If not I figured Ice for more slow and -recharge perhaps. -
Only one springs to mind so far (if the spell extended as far as the Rogue Isles). That would be of Scorpio Rose, having just blown the hell out of a whole warehouse full of goons, considering whether to spare the last one or not. Holstering her guns, she watches him crawl towards the door, having been shot through his legs. She considers her life of crime so far. Every vice, every sin, every deviant act, she's done them all but even now, she can't escape the knawing at her soul that one day, she's going to pay and that all of this will have been for nothing. She launches into a big musical number, her mind-controlled thugs dancing around the warehouse as she questions how she got into this life and whether there will ever be a way out.
The song? Original Sin by Jim Steinman.
At the close, she wanders slowly to the door, watching the lone survivor struggle with the latch. She pulls out one of her guns.
"There'll be hell to pay some day...put it all on the bill."

The Amber Banshee
Level 44 Blaster
Amber is reasonably well known within City Hall due to the work she's done with the King's Row community and the Militia sponsored drop in centre. I don't know if that counts as influential enough. If you're talking about changing national laws or being able to bend the ear of a senator, unlikely. But she could probably move some things on a local level.
OOC, I'm fairly busy at the moment in RL so I may or may not be able to participate, depending on who, what, when and where. -
Hi folks.
Just a simple question really, as above. I enjoy Defender sets, particularly ones that reduce AVs to their knees and have played around with just about all of them. When facing AVs, I often notice that the failure to bring them down is due to lack of buffs/debuffs. Now I know how awesome Kins are on teams, making even the most useless toon almost godlike in terms of resistance and damage output but I have been wondering how good they are when used aggressively.
Once the team has been buffed to the gills, how much use are Kins in a prolonged fight? Rad and Dark tend to be seen as the debuff Kings (I still love my D3) but what can a Kin do to a tough AV? Ive noticed that theres the obvious speed and damage plus some regen but how significant is it? And do multiple applications stack?
Thanks as always. -

I put my money on this. -

And the inf cost of the above is ... ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Less than you'd think.
Following this guide, I logged my Kat/Dark in and went to bid on some Archilles' Heel Procs. Cost? 200,000 inf each and easily built with fairly common salvage. Lady Grey procs were from 500,000 to 2,000,000 last night. As for the full build suggested, ok that could be a little pricey.
Of course, following this guide, I expect the price of some of the Inventions mentioned to go up a little. -
I have a Kat/Dark at 37 and I can tell you that it can be painful to level. I still find Dark very draining on endurance, even with only the basic toggles going and the danger with Katana is that the quick recharge can mean you spam your attacks over and over until you're drained.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fun toon, and very, very versatile but the endurance cost alone can eat you alive. Look for +end recipies if you can.
