Is COH on death row?
*shrugs* It either is or it isn't. Yes, there are probably less people about now than at some points in the past, but there's still enough active players to make it worth NCSoft's while to keep developing and running the game.
In the short to mid term the game isn't going away. In the long term, that depends on a lot of factors: NCSoft's business handling, design and development choices that has yet to be made, other MMORPGs and what happens to them, changes in Internet fashion and a thousand other factors.
No game lasts forever (one day, even WoW will turn off its last server) so, yes, at some point CoH will die. It's not going to be tomorrow and it's not going to be next year, so just sit back and releaxe and enjoy the game that's here today.

And they have even laid of coh devs which is never a good sign.

Source? This time last year when NCsoft was in the process of buying 100% rights to the City of Heroes franchise the CoH dev team consisted of 14 people. I'm not sure what the number is today, but I can tell you that it's over 30 people.
Positron has recently indicated that major updates to the game are on the way, supported by this growth in the team. 2008 has very much been a year of building the blocks for the future development of City of Heroes, including possible graphical updates. Quoting Matt 'Positron' Miller from a recent TenTonHammer interview:

"Weve hired some new programmers to look into sprucing up our graphics," Matt answered. "The engine we use is actually very powerful, but we have been conscious of peoples machines and minimum specs on the game for a while now, so we havent really seen the true glory of what it is capable of. But I think its safe to say yes, players can expect to see graphical improvements."

City of Heroes is a strong franchise, with an established community. This is a title that we're committed to for the long term.

These days any one new is either an alt of an already active player or a returning veteran coming to check out the new issue.

Is complete rubbish. It's easy enough to tell, you look at veteran badges. I did so when I came back to the game. Very few people in Steel Canyon had any badges.

No, they laid off developers of an unpublished MMO in Europe. The CoX development team doubled.
Honestly, Sindrone, stop living up to the last 5 letters of your name. If you want to jump the bandwaggon, please at least check your facts before spouting off at the mouth.

Yeah, when i played my new shield scrapper and brute, a surprisingly large number of people i ran into had no vet badges at all. So it does seem we are getting new players.
To be honest, this last week the game has felt more alive playerwise than it did before issue 13. Now if they could only fix the fragmented tells, i think we'd notice the activity even more. Cause i've been getting alot of em, and being unable to reply to what i guess are team requests probably causes people to just solo atm :|
And prospect of updated graphics and such which is to come. I really don't think CoH is about to die, rather the opposite!

i though this was going to be a post about inmate playing COH to get commmity time or help with a day job lol
What I'm curous to know is why every person who brings up this subject thinks that there's something new to discuss? It's been talked about over and over again in plenty of threads which never end pleasantly. It's tiresome, unconstructive and does nothing but make any new players visiting this forum think the game is doomed. Oh, and it depresses the living snot out of me. Just the sight of some doom laden title in the active topics list makes we want to know 'why!? What is it this time!?"
Instead of whining on the board, why not go and do something helpful to the community? Organise a TF, a PvP tornament, a badge hunt, costume contest, anything! Fun is where you make it and if all you do is log on and wait for someone to invite you to a team, you're could well be disappointed.
And no, I don't think the closure of TR means anything to CoX. Auto Assault came and went and we kept going, this'll be no different. If you take a look at what's been invested into this franchise, there's plans afoot. Be patient, get involved and enjoy what you've got. Hell, read one of the other hundred threads on this subject and get some perspective. But the last thing we need is yet another doom thread going over the same old nonsense.

Could it just be that the guy means the red names from here and the usa forums that have gone "mods" an easy mistake to make for some.
Something to keep in mind before jumping on the guy.

TBH as the sole purpose of the "question" was to state the reasons the OP thought the game was dooooooomed, and invite people to agree with him, I'm not inclined to cut an awful lot of slack.

I think most people would prefer the doctor to check thier facts before pronouncing the paitent dead.
I really should do something about this signature.
OK so I have been playing the game since 2006. and since then the population is know where near as much as it used to be and I don't even remember the last time I saw some one in atlas asking noob questions because they where new. These days any one new is either an alt of an already active player or a returning veteran coming to check out the new issue. I cant help but think this game is going the same way as TR. I mean this game is getting old now. And we have had know graphic updates or any events from the devs. And they have even laid of coh devs which is never a good sign. I know that know one likes to admit there game that they have plaid for so long is going down, but isn't it?
