  1. I have to take my hat off to you Paragon Studios.

The last year has seen me become quite bitter about some parts of the game. The limited choices from Praetoria, the laughably bad plot for Incarnates, the global name sucker punch for EU players...

However, this... this is more like it. A terrifying invasion of a city I levelled up in and actually care about for a change? A disturbing, alien invasion? A revamp of old, tired levels? Awesome artwork and comic book intros? Action that occurs in this dimension? FINALLY getting to fight The Coming Storm!?

Oh yes. Oh very much yes. This does look awesome and I can't wait to see transpires. A city in crisis is where heroes and villains are born. For the first time in ages, I'm stoked.

All I ask is that you don't lose momentum from this. Going from an epic level intro into old, seven year old content will show badly, just as it did when we exited Praetoria at level 20. If you're not going to revamp old story arcs and zones, at least sprinkle some new ones around the various levels, just to keep the threat of the Storm constant.

    *Rubs hands with glee*

They plan to charge for access to the Incarnate system? Wow. I guess fools and their money are easily parted.

And this too. I find the multiple use of gimmicks to just be annoying. Doubly so if you're squishy.

And no, I wouldn't want an official RP server. I've tried them in other games and they're hell. You spent more time reporting people than actually roleplaying.

  6. My second main is a Sonic/Energy and it's a fun build.

You're clearly going for the Smash/Lethal cap (which I rarely do) so I won't comment on that but I will mention a few choice differences. Personally, I don't cap my one because she has so many controls, it's rare anything's able to fire back.

If you're interested in control, I notice you have no Siren's Song. SS is potentially overpowered for Blasters, especially a single target specialist like Sonic/En. Almost everything is succeptible to sleep and so sleeping a whole spawn then going to town on them individually.

Shockwave is pretty awful to be honest. It's fun when you're on your own but it'll grab you a lot of aggro and is as bad as Gale at keeping you safe. As you've hit the Accuracy cap on this build, I'd drop Shockwave and pick up Siren's Song instead. Call of the Sandman will still give you your 6.25% recharge.

And no Shout? Shout is your most powerful attack and as you're going to be close range most of the time, it's a good choice. The rooting is long and annoying but its damage more than makes up for it.

    Hope that helps a little.
  7. Hello Scrapper gurus. It’s taken me a while to post this up but as I slowly scrape my way to 50, I think it’s about time to sort this build out once and for all. And I need help to do so.

Way back when I rolled up on the EU servers almost six years ago, my second toon (after an aborted Fire/Fire Blaster) was my signature character Dante, a Katana/Dark Armour Scrapper. Even though that was a long time ago, I keep going back to him again and again, trying to make the character work. I’ve burnt through more respecs on him than any of my other characters but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to beef him up into the beast I think he can be. And although I’ve made alternate versions and taken them to 50, I still feel that for a character who is the oldest on my roster and is even my forum avatar, it’s about time I got help to make him work.

Basically, my issues are always the same: I gasp for Endurance in a long fight and I am frightfully squishy in large mobs. Certain foes that do Energy damage (I’m looking at you Rikti) cream me easily. And despite my best efforts, I simply cannot get Cloak of Fear to work very well.

And yet at the same time, I keep seeing boasts of how Kat/Dark is amazing. And although I have looked at some of those ‘uberbuilds’, I can’t seem to get the same tricks to work on my build. I’m fairly certain what powers I want and in what order but either my slotting is woeful or I’m missing a trick when it comes to hitting that elusive softcap. The best I can manage is 30% to melee attacks but even that does not seem to be enough.

And so I come here for help. I have posted my prospective build below but it is far from perfect. My goals are not to be untouchable or purpled up to the nines. I am a casual player, a poor marketeer and I never build with Purple or PvP sets in mind. The odd expensive IO is not an issue with Alignment Merits. What I’d like to achieve is a build that is playable (as in, does not run out of Endurance after every long fight), can exemp occasionally with little impact on performance and that can use Cloak of Fear effectively. If I build for Endurance and Accuracy, the softcap eludes me and vice versa. I don’t want to make an ultimate, untouchable build, just one that is fun and doesn’t chew blues all the time or fall flat whenever faced with a +2 boss.

So, if you can help, or tweak my build to be effective, I would be very grateful. Many thanks.

Nice idea though. I like a bit of knockup and knockdown, probably why I've got so many Superstrength characters. But yes, the limitations on grappling would make this difficult. However, I would LOVE to see what happens when you try to grab a Fake Nemesis. I can see a whole host of dodgy screengrabs making an appearance on the forum.

I reckon the Devs might have tossed this idea around (no pun intended) and come up with Kinetic Melee instead which almost does the same sort of thing.

I'm very pleased with what's coming down the pipe and I am feeling the relief of 'oh no, not more Incarnate stuff'. However, I feel the source of my frustration is that over the past few issues we've seen a lot of attention spent on the two ends of the game, be it 1 - 20 with Praetoria, 20-30 with Vincent Ross, Roy Cooling, clones etc or beyond level 50 with the Incarnate system.

Aside from the two TFs that were added last issue, there doesn't seem to have been much development around the 30 - 50 range. I know that I certainly run out of things to do around that area and has, especially for villains, been a bit of a dry spot historically. Now I'm sure the Devs will get around to giving that range some more attention eventually but I think the bloat of content around the 20-30 range highlights the issue somewhat.

That aside, the rest of this year is starting to look very rosy indeed.

I kinda liked the Manhattan episode. And yes, mainly because it was more in keeping with Dalek nature rather than 'let's just bring them back because everyone loves the Daleks'. Really wish they'd do more with the Cult of Skaro.

My very first character I rolled up on six years ago is a Katana/Dark Armour and until Inventions came out, I found him nigh on unplayable. I find DA on SOs to be a painful experience and one that may leave you gasping for endurance all the time. One day I'll get him fully IOed out but I've got other priorities at the moment.

The IOs that did help and will make a difference are things like:

Theft of Essence - Chance for +End in Dark Regeneration. That heal is a monster but even with optimal End reduction in it, it bites deep each time you fire it. If you're surrounded by a mob, this proc can pretty much make the power pay for itself if it fires. It's definitely worth it.

Any -KB IOs. I used Acrobatics for years but DA is all about Endurance management and being able to drop Acrobatics in favour of a couple of -KB IOs helped.

And +End IOs in Stamina or Health. The extra boost is noticeable.

Otherwise, make sure you slot your attack powers with Endurance Reducers. DA has a lot of toggles but it's the attacks that will kill your blue bar. And (and I know some people will scream at this) if you use Hasten, drop it. I know it's a staple of many builds but it can sometimes cause you to rush through bigger, more end-hungry attacks more often and the crash at the end can be painful if you're on a toon with Endurance issues.

Anyway, that's my two pennies worth.
