Well, I would find it hard to defend the debuff or the ritual itself as "good design" and I can understand why some players might be upset by it. That said, I would hardly call it "crippling." Far and away the biggest issue for my characters was the -end, and even at that, my Fire/Rad corruptor still finished the arc with her only significant difficulty being the EB [1].
I then botched it again on my Fire/Ice tank "on purpose" in the sense that I was RPing with somebody and my guy just wouldn't have made the "right" choice first. He had more trouble with the -end than my corr had, but he got through well enough that my enjoyment was in no way dampened.
I might botch it a 3rd time just to figure out if there's anything to the "must have been another way" line. (Please don't tell me if there is. I've specifically only skimmed the thread to avoid that knowledge.). Believe me, there's a lot of stuff in the game I complain about, but I really think this particular issue is not all that. I thought it was a silly, fun little arc, despite the debuff. Of course, YMMV.
[1] Full Disclosure: Okay, I actually was frothing at the mouth during the EB fight, because even with three of my /rad toggles on her, and multiple break frees and lucks, she was still able to mez me. But my reaction had less to do with the debuff than with my loathing mez with the burning passion of a thousand dying suns. And yet half or more of my characters are squishies. Go figure. -
Yeah...I find that one to be wholly dissatisfying in a completely different way. At least the villain mission I can just write off as nonsensical (Hey, maybe I got gassed by Arachnos and I'm having this craaaazy dream while I'm really in a holding cell! Could happen!). But in the hero one I'm expected to believe that Silent Blade suddenly has a moment of competence so stunningly unexpected that I am rendered powerless to prevent her from killing somebody right in front of me and then walking away.
The other one I have a bit of trouble with is the jailbreak one for Vigilantes. That seems like a bridge too far for me, even for my vigs. But then, there could be other players who love these missions, and more power too them. Just my personal preferences. And I do actually quite enjoy the majority of the tip missions. -
Welcome to the dark side, Organica.
And yeah, I too find that arc mystifying and pretty silly. On the other hand, I am very fond of both the level 40-50 Rogue missions. -
I've loved the newer redside contacts, Dean, Leonard, and Vincent Ross.
My favorite arc in the game is probably still Seer Marino's but she's closely rivaled by the entire RWZ storyline, which I play on almost every character. I also rarely skip Darrin Wade, and I actually quite like Ashley's Midnighter arc.
Doc Buzzsaw and Vernon Von Grun's dialogue is hysterical. I also fondly remember meeting Operative Vargas for the first time. And I'll echo the sentiments that Themari and Phipps have probably the darkest arcs, particularly Phipps, IMO, because he's a non-powered, "normal" guy who is just utterly loathsome and disturbingly adept at being so.
Turning to Praetoria, I thought Praetor Sinclair was particularly well-written. In fact, all the power path arcs I've played have stood out for me.
I'll have to thank the thread for reminding me about Faultine. I don't play blueside too often, but I do like that storyline. Will have to play it again on my new defender, and perhaps the Hollows as well. -
Quote:I got a giggle out of this because one of my main characters is a sonic/pain corr. Granted, he's not seen too much lately outside of RP, but I'll be missioning him again when DA goes live. I can't really answer the OPs question though, as I don't get out much.I'll second Pain Domination. They used to be all over the place but that seemed to be little more than the "new shiny" effect. I've never played the set myself so I can't say if people aren't playing it because it's not very good or for some other reason.
Also, I never see Sonic Blast or Sonic Resonance. Resonance I can understand since it's a bit of a wonky set but Sonic Blast is awesome. The look, the feel, the sound, I love it all. Guess the same can't be said for everyone. -
Love it. The reward wouldn't have to be anything huge. A handful of merits seems about right. Or perhaps a choice, as Kirsten proposed.

I completely agree!
I'm very excited about those Stalker changes.
I'm also very interested in seeing the new DA content; how much I like it will be the final deciding factor in whether or not I go premium when my sub expires.
EDIT: Heh. Didn't even notice what forum I was in. Don't mind me, Protectorians. Carry on. -
Love the untucked shirt option! Actually, love all the shirts and jeans. I might actually have to spend points, assuming I'm able to purchase only the pieces that work for men.
As always, thank you for the notes, VK. -
As others have said, it's something that's been requested numerous times. I support the idea, and I hope it keeps getting suggested until the change is finally made. Just seems like a QoL issue to me, although I suppose there could be facets to such a change that I don't really understand, such as the PVP base raids I've heard talk of.
Regarding the devs position on it, Positron has stated (I'm paraphrasing, possibly wildly) that supergroups are intended to be group content and that such a change goes against that intent. -
Hmmm...getting all four is interesting, particularly for melee. If you didn't specify that you'd have Storm to play with too.
I've got a Fire/Ice tank who's going to take the Earth epic. If I took Ion or Void Judgement on him and called it Air, he'd be all four. So there's an idea for you. I like the ones you already presented too, though. Fire/DA would probably be a lot of fun. -
I'll jump on the Fire/Pain bandwagon. My sonic/pain is great on teams. My fire/rad, who is lower level, has so far had no issue with anything either solo or teamed. I would imagine the combination would bring you good support capabilities with a significant damage contribution, and would be a lot of fun.

Woot! That's awesome, Steelclaw. Congratulations!

Quote:Ah, but see, I would be unlikely to pay for any of the shiny, scanty, cutout options you present, so if we consider a consumer base that consists of just you and I, I think it's a wash for NCSoft, in terms of profit. You may not share my opinions or tastes. However, I'm a VIP subscriber, and I will also pay for attractive costumes for my female COH characters. My male characters receive far less attention than my female characters when it comes to costumes. When I make the decision on whether or not to purchase a costume item or pack, I'm not nearly as concerned about the male models as I am the female models.
COH Artists and Developers: Please include VASTLY MORE costume pieces for female models than you do male models. More accessories, shoes, boots, and costume items. The more attractive, the better. Scanty is quite alright. Sheer and lacy items are wonderful. Cutouts are awesome. Shiny is fantastic.
Because I like Cheesecake, and I'm willing to pay for it!
Now, it's not that I object to shiny, scanty, cutout options for my girls. It's just that we have so darned many of them already. Adding still more not only becomes repetitive and redundant (see what I did there?) but, in my opinion, it begins to send a message that is quite thoroughly covered already in Noble Savage's thread.
You know what I would spend points on? Possibly even extra actual money (although I make no promises in that regard)?
* "Normal" hairy chests for men. None of my male characters happen to be competitive swimmers, nor do they happen to be werewolves. I'd appreciate something between the extremes of "I shave all over" and "I howl at the moon." My guys would still not be walking around topless, but at least I could use the casual jacket on my main guy without putting a t-shirt under it to protect others from the glare coming off his chest. I believe there are other tops that show a bit of chest as well, just like many men do in real life.
* A 5:00 shadow as a face detail.
* Ditto for a shaved head. I don't mean razor shaved; we do have bald. I mean stubble.
* More hair for guys in general.
* Tattoos! For all the models, not just the guys! And for places other than back of the head, forearms and face (which you can sort of do now, with patterns).
I spend much more time on my male characters' costumes then my females and yet I always end up with the same few basic 'templates' because I find most of their options so dissatisfying. And yes, I do understand that that has to do with my personal tastes, and YMMV, but then, that's how the thread started. -
I usually try not to repeat powersets too much, but when I look over my relatively small roster of characters, it seems that I do have an affinity for Ice, in a variety of forms. My eponymous main is an Ice/Dark/Mu corruptor, then I have a Dark/Ice/Dark defender, a Storm/Illusion/Ice controller, a Fire/Ice tank, and a new Electric/Ice stalker.
I'm also a big fan of Sonic Attack, but I've explicitly kept that set to one character and not let myself do any repeats (so far). -
Quote:I'm with Adeon on this. I wouldn't get too worried based on this one experience, Myddie. Honoree completely humbled my Illusion/Storm controller. It was so unexpected I actually found it funny. I finally asked a friend to pop in with her tank and once she got his attention off me we dropped him like a hot rock. But that was an experience I had not had on that character, literally, since before he got his phantoms.Quote:Honoree wiped the floor with her several times in the Ramiel arc until I just said Screw It and popped a bunch of purples and oranges and straight out dps'd him down. Even then, it was touch and go. And he was only EB level. =/
I suspect that the solo path will have some portions with Honoree-like difficulty but I'm also hoping for more bits with Trapdoor-like difficulty, that is to say bosses who require some thought to defeat but aren't a straight up stat-fight.
And just to get us back on topic, I'll add that I'm very excited to see what the new Dark Astoria content will be like. What they've told us about so far is already more content than I expected for the initial roll-out of the solo/small team path. And I expect the zone itself to be atmospheric and visually compelling, based on the images I've seen, and based on their last new zone, First Ward. I have no expectations yet regarding how the missions will play or how slow the path will actually be; will just have to wait and see it in action. -
Totally agree. I adore my stalkers already. I'll be really excited to see how they do after these changes. I know the thread title say "possible" but I hope these changes or some variation of them are available for testing soon.

I chose based on character concept, so of my 3 characters that have Judgment, two are Ionic and one is Cryonic. And an argument could have been made for going Ionic with her too, but Cryonic was the "more right" choice, in terms of concept, and it was different from the other two, for whom nothing else really worked.

As always, Von Krieger, thanks so much for all the work you do in taking and posting these notes!
Regarding this (comment for the dev team of course, not VK):
I think that ship sailed the day AE was released. I know I've completely ignored the official lore since the moment I learned what it was, partly for the reasons the devs state. It would be pretty hard to justify any of my characters, be they heroes or villains, who know anything about Crey or Aeon being willing to put themselves in that position. Granted, I have a few who just don't know all that much, either because they're low level, or for some reason, just haven't done many missions involving either entity, but they're a distinct minority. -
Now that looked fun! I have a baby (level 24 now) DM/DA brute who I am greatly enjoying so far. Really looking forward to the higher levels with her. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you for that Steelclaw, and for your service in the Marines.
I'll just add my voice to the collective Thank you to all of you currently serving, or who have in the past, and my best wishes to your families. -
Quote:Wow, that's insane. That's even better for exemping than slotting mid-level IOs, which is the way I do it now. Part of me thinks it would be fantastic if IOs you can buy on the market behaved that way; another part thinks that IOs are powerful enough already. Still...I guess it doesn't concern me too much for PvE if another player has a better IO set than I do. Unless there's some implication to this I'm missing (quite possible), I suppose if people want to spend their points this way, more power to them. It's hard to imagine it will make the availability of mid-level IOs on the market even worse than it is now (because it's hard to get worse than '0', which what you see in a lot of recipes' For Sale columns now) and there's still merits. There is a very, very important aspect of these store-bought enhancements that is not mentioned here: their set bonuses do not shut off when you exemplar, unless you exemplar 3 levels below the minimum level of the enhancement. This means that purchased Mako's Bite, for example, functions like level 50 IOs at level 50, and level 30 IOs at level 30 with respect to set bonuses.
This is superior to the functionality of in-game level 50 IOs (whose set bonuses shut off at 46) or level 30 IOs (whose enhancement values stay at the level 30 value when at level 50). Though there are level ranges and exemplar levels where the in-game ones are slightly better enhancement-wise, these IOs are almost always superior to in-game IOs with respect to set bonuses.
One of the reasons this was viewed as somewhat excusable by some in beta was that they were "only" uncommon sets (despite having good ones like Reactive Armor and Red Fortune). But now you are adding Touch of Death and Mako's Bite, which are very valuable sets for set bonuses.
I'm looking forward to the rest of what you posted about. I'm glad to see the Preems getting a sale on Time Manipulation. Thanks for the update.
