I checked again and the Featured Items are on a single page now, so it looks like they may have culled a few things to give the freebie more visibility.
  2. I happily logged in to receive my free XP Booster/slap in the face!

It should probably not be buried on the second page of the Featured Items list, though. If one of the goals is to get more people to try the market, you probably want to make the freebie as easy to find as possible.

    Why do you hate fun?

Thanks! Maybe they could call them something crazy like Enhancement Boosters.

What do these boosters boost? XP? Inf? Enhancements? Sex appeal?

Simple story, kind of funny. Missions are fairly short, not much details.
    Damning with faint praise!

Like the other arc in my sig, these were both created as alternatives to the starting contacts for people (me) who had grown tired of them. This was before the Atlas Park revamp so you're probably better off going with the dev missions now.

Because they were meant as alternate starting points, I kept the stories simple. Bad kid, likes fire. Weird aliens with weird demands. I also purposely kept the mission text to a minimum. When you're advancing from level 1 to level 2 you probably don't need to experience War and Peace in the process.

I've always meant to go back and refine the arcs and maybe I will someday but creating yet another alt is more alluring. I offer a warning on the Fourtean arc: the ending is pretty dumb. Also, I must have been feeling mean to include Vahzilok in the second-to-last mission.

I will say this, though -- probably the toughest challenge I found in the mission architect was creating custom characters that are both reasonable to fight and still reward decent XP. I tweaked powers a fair bit before settling on them and deliberately used the custom characters in only one mission per arc.

I now have the desire to revise my arcs. But...my alts!

Does it activate immediately to that person? Do they get a temp power icon or notifcation?

Does the temp power run out after an hour from them getting it, or at same time the original person's XP boost runs out?

I'd think it would have to each on thier own timer as its ingame time but ...
These are all good questions. It's a shame the actual description of the item in the market doesn't answer any of them.
  8. I do not like either image and as such did not vote.
  9. I believe I got about 200,000 of the restore/revival powers.
  10. After completing the survey I immediately remembered a bunch of things I forgot to mention. As per usual.

    I'll add one here:

    - add to the market: missing pieces for costume sets (eg. the piranha head is missing other fishy parts to make a proper fish man. Well, as proper as a fish man is, anyway).
  11. I always thought it was funny when they announced the schedule for the Rikti invasions. Very thoughtful of the Rikti to provide advanced notice!

The Nemesis invasion is set for May and it sounds like it will be a month-long invasion, which ought to be long enough to have some people demanding the devs turn it off because it is ruining the game/their karma/costume contests, etc.
  12. I think a more generous interpretation might be that Matt hews closer to old school MMO design, at least where the DIKU model is used. Whether one likes that sort of design or not is more an individual thing.

  14. I do this when creating a new character:

    1. Click to expand the power trays to a stack of three. Click the side arrows to make sure you have trays 1, 2 and 3 open.
    2. Enter /cleartray into the chat window. This will clear all the powers in the trays. Handy for removing things you may not use, like the Vanguard pet.
    3. Go to Account Items in email and find the first item. It will probably be a tailor token or something similar. Click 'Claim all' on the attachment. This will automatically reward all items available for a new character. If an item requires a choice the game will give you a prompt. I find this quicker than picking and choosing through the list of (former) vet rewards.
    4. Click Powers in the topmost tray and drag the stuff you will actually use into the power trays.
  15. Yes, they should have the words OLD AND LAME stamped in red over the face of any original contact. And if you accept the contact a pop-up window appears that says YOU'LL BE SORRY.
  16. I do not like the new splash screen. The pose looks silly, even if it is anatomically possible.

I would like it better if they gave Penelope a top hat. I think that's all that's missing from her costume.
  17. I can appreciate the devs trying to introduce a more 'dynamic' story but the implementation has been pretty clumsy. It feels very much like someone thought it would be cool to kill off Statesman without thinking through the repercussions to the actual game.

But it did accomplish the goal of making me indifferent to the game's lore. It's such a convoluted mess now that I no longer care who lives/dies/gets retconned!

Just as long as they leave the stinkin' badges alone. You do not mess with player achievements.
  18. I'll reiterate what I said on the beta forum:

I'm opposed to replacing the Statesman's Pal badge with Positron's Pal. I didn't rescue Positron. I don't even like Positron. He can rescue himself. :P

I also lament the time and effort that has gone into 'fixing' Statesman's presence in the game that could have been directed to sprucing up old missions that actually need the work.

If you have low level characters that pre-date the Atlas Park revamp they can still run the missions from the old contacts.

Nah, it's a good chance for discussion about old school City of Heroes.

Just recently RobotPants and I were duoing with our low 30s corruptor and dominator. We'd finished the Croatoa arc (less the TF) but weren't high enough to start on the Rikti War Zone. We'd played the appropriate SSA, done some shiny new tip missions and still weren't level 35 yet. It seemed we'd reached a point where we had run out of 'new' content (or missed it) so we decided to check out good ol' Lou Pasterelli way in the back of Brickstown. Lou's been standing there, surrounded by purple-conning enemies (if you take him as a contact when you are level-appropriate) since April 2004. His legs must be getting tired.

Lou deals mainly with the Devouring Earth and has a few arcs involving them. His first mission, though, was to visit the Warburg PvP liaison in Kings Row. Hello, auto-complete!

Trying to get our missions to match was a crapshoot because they are pretty much handed out randomly, so we ended up repeating a few. Lou also had lots of hunts -- 'defeat 35 DE', 'defeat 35 Crey', sometimes they were generic, sometimes they required you to go to a specific zone (several hunts were in Crey's Folly, a hazard zone). When Lou gave out regular missions they were often 'defeat all' and some were stealth 'defeat all' -- you'd rescue the five scientists and the mission wouldn't complete until you found and defeated every last DE hiding in that sprawling, multi-level tech lab.

By the time we completed all of his missions I had gained two levels, in no small part because so many missions required wiping out every last opponent you came across.

In the end I didn't wish Lou to go hug the Hamidon and never come back. I think a lot of these old contacts can be used as filler and don't need to be removed. But they could stand to have missions tidied up:

    - slim down the numbers needed for hunts. I'd max them out at 20. I don't think you need to eliminate hunts because they are typically presented as an option unless you have run out of other missions.
    - remove the 'go talk to so and so' missions. Make these pop-up contacts you can safely ignore. Security chief, Wincott, PvP liaisons, Mission Architect, etc.
    - reduce the number of Defeat All missions and have each one clearly labeled. I actually don't mind the occasional mission that needs to be full cleared, just don't pile them on.

That's about it, really. A lot of the old stories are generic but some are still good fun to go through and there's a simplicity that appeals after all the phasing, multiple objectives and stop-and-start of the newer content. A cleansing of the palette, if you will.
  21. It's possible the new IP could be another superhero game, just one that isn't set in the CoH universe. I'd be good with that. In fact, I'd prefer it to CoH 2.

There's nothing saying that the new project doesn't fall within the "City of..." franchise.

(Bad Assumption #5: Not made by Johnny_Butane, but by others in this thread: There's also nothing stating that said project was necessarily an MMO or a PC game for that matter. While I posted my iPad comment in jest, this IS a scary time for any studio to try a multimillion-dollar PC title. PC sales are flat and PCs that would handle a high-end DirectX11 title well are not entering the market fast enough to match the growing costs of developing these high-end titles. You may want to mitigate costs by developing cross-platform, lowering system requirements so it works across a wider array of PCs, or keep your IP alive by developing products with your IP in alternate markets until things seem less stormy.)
The work postings for Paragon (under Mountain View) specifically mention the project is a 'next gen MMO' and 'new IP':

    2D/UI Artist (Next Gen MMO)
    Quote:
This individual will be primarily responsible for the design, creation and implementation of 2D user interface graphics for an exciting new IP.

Yes, absolutely. I'm happy to have the signature characters remain in the background of the game, handing out missions and looking stoic/broody/whatever suits them.

I'd *much* prefer the devs address content gaps in the main game over perpetuating the SSAs.

I also happen to think the SSAs are seriously overpriced. As a free or premium player I would not have paid to play them. I wonder how many did?
  24. I don't want to derail Nethergoat's player diary, especially since there was a recent thread discussing zone revamps (that I can't find at the moment) but one thought on a possible Kings Row revamp:

    - extend the range of Atlas Park to level 10, allowing players to transition from it to Steel Canyon or Skyway City
    - revamps Kings Row and change its range to level 30-40, filling a much-needed content gap

This shifts the new player experience from shiny new Atlas to not-so-shiny Steel or Skyway, which may not seem like a huge improvement over Atlas -> KR but Steel in particular at least has some new mission arcs in it.

    An alternate would be:

    - extend Atlas to level 10
    - extend/change Kings Row to level 10-20

This would make it easier to preserve the existing flavor of KR (since the villain groups there would not need to be changed as much) but still provide a smooth transition for the player. It would also make KR serve as an alternate to Steel Canyon and Skyway City, giving players more choices.
  25. Oh, forgot to mention -- the resized/repositioned rocket pack looks great!
