I'm sorry, and I certainly don't mean this to be rude, but isn't that kind of a silly thing to say? Wouldn't you take a smart team playing [XYZ] over a crummy ? I mean you could put any AT/build in the first item and it would be equally true, right?

    For instance:

I'll take a smart team playing Dual Blades Scrappers over a crummy anything.
I'll take a smart team playing Earth Controllers over a crummy anything.
I'll take a smart team playing Plant Dominators over a crummy anything.
I'll take a smart team playing Dark Tanks over a crummy anything.
I'll take a smart team playing etc. over a crummy anything.

    Right?

It's like saying "I'd rather have a bad steak than cold poop." Duh.

Sorry, I know that sounded rude, but I'm just trying to point out that what you said really didn't say anything good about empath defs. In fact, by suggesting you'd select smart ones over crummy other things is actually kind of insulting. I wouldn't want to hear someone say they'd rather have me as their software engineer instead of a really crummy one. Gee, thanks. Damming with faint praise, I think it's called.

I'd be happy to admit I'm speaking out of turn if you could show me any AT/build where it would be better to have really crummy players of something else than a team of smart players with that AT/build.

  2. Seeing as how I didn't even realize we got a bonus, I'd obviously sign off on changing it to something real.

Wouldn't a recharge bonus, however, benefit the two types differently? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems from what I've heard on this forum that WS would get a hell of a lot more out of that than PB. Maybe it would be better if WS got a recharge bonus and PB got something else, such as a regen bonus (just an example).

    Thoughts?
  3. The store isn't an issue but having all my extra slots, both purchased and vet-earned, be inaccessible is entirely annoying. I'd even go so far as to say unacceptable if this weren't just a game, but even still I paid good money to make damn sure I wouldn't be without slots on my favorite server. If this isn't resolved until Monday... That will certainly be a black mark on their record. Really the first significant black mark in the nearly five years I've been playing.

    Grrr. Arrggh.

Sorry. I just.. dislike obtuse people who think they're being clever.

    Edit for clarity
Screw 'em. How many people leave obnoxious toggles running? Pets aren't nearly as bad.

    How's that for clarity?

  8. Confused: why would you go from nova to dwarf and back? Or was that merely an example to express your point?

Correct me if I'm wrong but since the Dwarf shift doesn't remove the mezzes--it just makes you not care about them--shifting back would just make you be mezzed again. That means that shift to/from Dwarf wouldn't be to break a mez.

So the only reason I can see to shift from one form to another is to use a power that the target-form has.

Or were you just talking about total travel time, as opposed to total round-trip time?

In any case, I certainly agree that the transformation itself should be faster. And also quieter. It's very loud. And shouldn't trigger if you zone while shifted so as soon as you zone in you don't get that damn boom.

Okay, that turned into a rant. Sorry. Done now.
  9. I find myself saying this a lot recently, but here it is again: I did a search for this topic and found nothing. I would be grateful if someone could point me towards a thread where this is addressed, if there is one. Failing that, allow me to begin:

One of the great hurdles I find, as a beginning player of Kheldians, is feeling comfortable shifting forms. Going into Nova or Dwarf isn't bad because one is actively choosing both the strengths and weakness of that form in order to utilize said strengths. As soon as the transformation is complete, the strengths are available and all tools at your command.

When transforming back into the human, however, one has to choose whether to risk massive damage by staying unprotected in order to keep dealing damage, or stop their offense in order to toggle up their defenses.

My thought is that it would make playing the ATs much easier without really making them significantly more powerful--I said "significantly"--if the human form toggles were to merely suppress when in alternate forms. This would be akin to mez or travel suppression but obviously would be total including the VFX. When the human form is retaken, the toggles would immediately reassert just as they already do when the suppressing conditions are removed.

    That is all.

  10. Wow. Resistance to slows? I can see where that might help a WS some with the recharge, as long as it's all slows and not just slow movements, but isn't that kinda like a $0.25 tip at a fancy restaurant? Sounds rude.

(You can tell I still haven't spent much time working on my Khelds. I dumped my first WS at 35 or so and spent the next several months recovering from the frustration. Just getting back to them now.)
  11. (standard disclaimer about having made a search)

Has there been any formal IC or OOC reason given for the lack of the kheldian inherent giving a bonus for other kheldians on the team? I can't find any mentions of it, but I assume if it was ever discussed it would have been back shortly after I3 was released. I didn't start playing 'til near the end of I3 and didn't join the boards until some time later.

  12. That's quite a bit different from seeing what it looks like on an actual model, though.

I'm iffy on the idea, though. I'm concerned about the overlays and performance hits.

I'd much rather look at my character over-layed over the current loading screen, as well as I think most others would. It would make the loading screen much more pleasant to look at after the 100th time and beyond. With over 40 different characters -loading would be slightly less painful
Just started this forum account and this was your first post? This can't be a post from an actual new user, though, right? This is a rockin' idea.

  15. A neg dmg/buff weapon set...

We do need a new weapon set and I'd love to see a weapon set designed for neg energy because of the foe debuff/self buff. I'm not so sure a scythe is the way to go, though. Not only would animation be incredibly difficult code wise, but getting 6 - 8 different movements out of it would be hard to come up with in the first place. Some of the current weapons have some pretty similar looking attacks in their sets, and I'd hate to see another set with all the same anims, even though they would be pretty different from the current sets.

This would be perfect for the Whip Melee set, though... Whips and dark just go together perfectly in my mind. And then the base weapon could just be a short(ish) rod and the whip part could just come out on each attack.

Sorry, don't mean to derail your theme. I love scythes, I just think the animations would be prohibitively difficult and constrictive.

I've played 'fenders, 'trollers and MMs with leadership, especially Assault.

I've played scrappers, tanks and brutes on teams with others running leadership, especially Assault.

Never once have I thought about it like this. Thanks for pointing out a new POV to me. Now I know for a FACT my next toon is going to be a defender. Talk about a massive damage power! That .36/sec end cost suddenly seems really small!

  17. TSZ: Screwball extraordinare! Well screwballed. Aside from your subtle self-contradiction pertaining to planes/dimensions (within the context of CoX) that was all very well argued. I like.
  18. Thoughts:
    • Selectable voices during character creation is pure win.
      • All audio gets downloaded in patches
      • A single digit gets added to character data transfer to indicate which voice set to use
      • No additional data needs to get sent during action because the sound would be linked to the action
    • Customizable music would have to be very simple
      • Themes would be way too difficult for coding because of dissonant overlap
      • Allowing in-game access to iTunes shouldn't be too much of a problem
      • They could even allow you to build iTunes playlists for your character during creation
    • Pie-in-the-sky wish:
      • Use snips of music during certain events such as entering a mish, getting killed, getting rezzed, etc.
      • Would only play on your local machine as opposed to being transfered, so griefing is not possible
    • Additional/more complex/realistic environmental sounds would be great as long as it's not music
    • I'd like to see them give a slider for pseudo-music volume. Right now the boom-box emotes are not considered music, nor is the sewer mish ramp/entrance music. Because of that you can't turn it down without turning down your sfx. It's old and changing it will only make it new for a little while. I want to be able to turn it off.
    • Let us turn off the combat warning sounds such as out-of-end, recharging, etc. They really take away from immersion.

And since I mentioned immersion, I'd also like to have the option disable the floating numbers/indicators during combat: damage, heals, misses, dodges, etc. It really takes away from immersion for me. I can't imagine I'm unique in that. It would also decrease the amount of data being transfered and the amount of processor power being devoted.

  19. That'd be great, but given that the client alone is reaching for 3G, can you imagine how big the server app suite would have to be? Running both on one machine would take a massive powerhouse of a box.

That said, I'd pay out a ton of money to get such a box if CoH went private-server. It might take a while, but I'd sell a kidney if I had to.

Yeah, okay, I'm a CoX junky. I admit it.

My problem is having the rat... I mean guy in my contact list for the next 15 levels. If I want him in my contact list it's because I want to do his missions. Give me the choice. I don't care how I get him (or don't) for a contact, I want to be able to choose. That's true for every single one of those auto-contacts as well. They're annoying. Sure, it's great that they just give us a pop-up instead of making us run to them from some other contact, but why can't that pop-up say have a decline option? Why the hell do I have to accept the MA tutorial contact that will stay in my list until I go do that damn tutorial for the 50th time? Same for the inventions contact. And you can't just decline the mission with those, either, because they're multi-part. I suppose you can decline one, then ignore it for three days, then repeat but that would take a long time and it's frelling ridiculous. Let me just decline the contact already. I know how to make inventions! There should be no contacts you're forced to put in your contact list. That includes the ones where one of your current contacts has only a single contact to offer you. Click on the "be introduced" button and get a contact you may or may not like? If there's more than one to choose from we can decline them all; why not let us decline if there's only one? Especially now that any time you want a different contact you only have to run a safeguard/mayhem mission and you get a new one.

Obviously they wouldn't be AE tickets, Geko. The concept is just for some kind of a ticket-based system that would allow us more control over our rewards from standard missions. They did it with TFs, why not all missions? As the OP said, it would be optional which I also think is an important part of it.

If you were being satirical/humorous, please forgive me for not picking up on that.

    Myth: Statesman is a hero
Fact: Statesman has excellent PR. Statesman has twice invaded sovereign nations in order to do what he felt he should, once leading an invasion of a sovereign nation to settle an old score. When he invaded the USSR to "rescue" people, instead of allowing diplomacy to take place, his assault of the nation's military defending their nation in clear accordance to world statutes, forced the USSR to use a nuclear weapon in order to save the lives of their soldiers and stop what appeared to be a rogue power from invading their nation and causing more damage. Notice that everyone learns that Statesman was injured, but the billions of dollars in damage, thousands left homeless, hundreds of soldiers and civilians killed, before the nuclear detonation. are all overlooked. Additionally, he led an assault on the Rogue Isles, a sovereign nation in its own right, in clear violation of UN laws, without any formal declaration of war, and led scores of young heroes to the slaughter, just to settle a personal grudge. Finally, Statesman has repeatedly invaded Praetorian Earth, several times being captured by Tyrant, but never have the Praetorian invaded Primal Earth, yet Statesman's PR machine has already begun attempting to convince Primal Earth heroes that Praetorian Earth is evil, without any proof.

    DON'T BELIEVE THE LIES!
    You are my hero.

I despise a great number of the hero missions because they call for doing things that are patently immoral, such as fighting people who are doing nothing more than carrying out peaceful business transactions or mounting assaults on private facilities in order to gain evidence of a crime.

Woah, almost got lost in a rant that would have gone on for days... Sorry. Just the anarchist in me.
  23. I'm surprised at myself but I have to say I like this idea. I'm certain the numbers of both the rewards and costs would have to be looked at very closely, but I'd like the opportunity to say which level of reward I wanted to get at what time. It's still random in the case of recipes. I obviously haven't spent a lot of time thinking about the ramifications but on first blush I think I would have to support this.

It most certainly does and it's good that you point that out. I was playing my granite the other day and dropped to pick up speed. Bad idea. Went from very slow to massively held to dead in nothing flat. Gotta watch those icons.

Back to the point of tactic changes, however, I would be very surprised if multi-formers didn't take things like inherent use in forms, the toggle-suppression v. toggle drop change and the dwarf shift through mez into account when planning or even building. Alien, would you agree that those changes didn't open up new tactics and build theories to you? How about anyone else?

Okay, I've heard this stuff so many times now I just have to jump in with some real economics.

    <rant>
Inf, like money, is fungible. That means it can be applied to anything equally as long as the source of the funds is the same. In the case of listing/sale fees, it has to do with the gross and net cost.

The listing fee is 5%. The gross loss at sale is 10%. That's a net cost of 5% at listing and 5% at sale. They can use whatever words they want and even do whatever code routing they want, but unless there's a way around either they listing or the sale fee, the fact is that the listing fee is not refunded (in that you never get it back) and the sale fee is 5% (in that it's how much additional money you lose). Anything else is just semantics. Normally I care a great deal about semantics, but when it comes to economics, everything else is trumped.

The real myth here is that money isn't fungible.
The real fact is that it is and the bottom line is that you drop 5% on the listing and an additional 5% on the sale. None of that is ever refunded.

It's like saying Buy One Get One Free. Unless you pay full price for the first one whether you take the second one or not, what's really happening is that it's on 50% discount. The rest is just marketing.
