Quote:Do the blaster and defender have their snipes? If they do they can (very slowly) kill the nicti from outside of agro range.Just for general interest and in case it matters, here's what I recall of team composition:
Tanker: Dark/BattleAxe
Scrapper: Katana/Fire
Defender: Cold Domination/Dark
Controller: Electric/Kin
Blaster: Fire/?
All around level 40.
edit: Not many set bonuses as far as I know; a few key IOs like Steadfast 3%, a sinlge -knb on my Scrapper, and a little bit of frankenslotting.
It can be done with 80 foot range powers as well, but it's a little trickier. Queue up a power and slowly inch forward until the power fires, when it fires, stay in that exact spot and they will not agro on you, allowing you to kill them from range in perfect safety. I've had to do that on a team before to beat the TF, it works but it takes a LOOOONG time to do, especially with only 2 characters with reliable long range powers.
I don't think the nictus regen when they aren't agroed on you, but I'm not going to swear to that. I know 2 blasters and a defender could beat any regen they had at long range, so a blaster and defender should be able to do it if you don't mind taking 20 minutes to kill each one. -
Quote:Certain power sets will be unavailable to brand new Free players, but since it's an old account you'll be Premium automatically. I don't think Claws is one of those sets anyway.ok my worry was that one or more powers I had selected in his build might not be available to people who are not actively subscribed so that he would be greyed out as a hero I can continue to play as, but it sounds like that will only happen if he is an MM or controller.

Quote:I'm pretty sure you can use Inertial Reduction with Ninja Run,Can I use a power from the leaping pool, or inertial reduction from the kinetic's power set(troller /kin, I mean), along with the ninja run to get a giant super-backflip-ninja-jump?
Ninja Run only prevents you from running a toggle travel power, since Inertial Reduction isn't a toggle, there shouldn't be any conflict.
You can't use Combat Jumping or Super Jump with it though, I can personally confirm that for you, as I have several characters with both. -

Just for the record, at level 47 you can start slotting level 50 IOs now, you don't have to wait until 50 to put them in there.

Quote:Actually I think the skill and timing based playstyle of Regen is exactly why they have to be careful about how much they buff it.Regen may well be to Scrapper powersets what Blasters were (are) to ATs - something that can perform very well in the right hands but may not do well averaged across the player base. In that view, it might warrant a buff. I am very much not in a good position to judge that; not only am I very unlikely to be an "average" player, I quite likely don't even team with them often, either.
There are already plenty of people who perform very well with Regen because they've got a lot of experience with it and know things like when to hit a heal and when not to, and have the timing of all the clicks down.
Sure, a buff would help the average player who doesn't perform very well with Regen. But any buff that makes the set better for them would make it overpowered in the hands of the payers who already do well with it. -
Quote:This would be a nice addition. I doubt we'll get it, but I would support any suggestion of it. It would be a reason to take the power other than concept driven "Oh, you thought you WON?!" builds. Now with the new 5th tier powers in the pools, I think a 'Burn Out' effect for all your Regen powers added to Revive (with a short duration of untouchable) is even more appropriate than when I last suggested it. Why not? It'll only affect Reconstruction, Dull Pain, Instant Healing and MoG and you have to die to get the effect.
Quote:Also, an insta-recharge on Reconstruction when you use Instant Healing would be stellar
Quote:No +HP on Resiliance, though. Stalkers already bang their head on the HP cap with min-slotted Dull Pain. -
Probably going to be a brute or scrapper. Specific power sets are negotiable, since it's difficult to build either one in such a way that it won't solo well.
They both deal good damage, single target or AoE depends on power set choice.
Both of them have enough survivability that there should be very little downtime between spawns, and not much should pose a significant threat to them.
A mastermind would be a decent choice. Your Bots/Dark should be leveling pretty decently actually. Dark Miasma is one of the better MM secondaries for solo play.
Blasters will level quickly up to about level 35, then they tend to slow down once their kill speed starts lag behind their survivability. When IOed well it isn't as much of an issue, but with your lack of bank that'll be difficult for you to do.
Your Bots/Dark is actually a good start, but if you want to roll something new, go with a scrapper or brute. -
Quote:My main character (Claws/Regen scrapper) has gone through just as many variations. Currently he has ONE build, because it took me that many incarnations to settle on one that I felt covered all the things I wanted for him.well, Blood Rose has been:
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Presence
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Presence/Teleport
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Medicine
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Fighting/Body
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Weapon
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Dark
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Presence/Dark
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Medicine/Weaponry
Dark/Regen/Leaping/Teleport/Dark
and so on
actually, Blood Rose hit 50 before free respecs were coming out and she has used every single respec she has earned since 2004 when she was made as a scrapper in prelaunch, Vet, all three Trials, the granted and so on
I can't see a need for more than 3 builds.
Question for you: How many of those different builds had significant differences between them? Looks to me like you were just swapping around pool powers. Did you change primary and secondary powers a great deal, or were they pretty much the same primary/secondary power choices with different pool powers?
In all of the builds I went through, my primary and secondary power set choices stayed largely the same, with an occasional minor variation (like taking Swipe instead of Strike). And most of those build changes, in retrospect, were unnecessary. -

Quote:If you don't have a lot of def to begin with, then yes. Otherwise the attacks with -def that actually go through are far too low to stack up to anywhere near -100%. If you get hit frequently enough such that ~10s def debuffs stack up to 100% you have other problems (like your hp being negative).
It is virtually impossible to debuff an SR with any resistable debuffs (which Romans and Arachnos have) An SR hits 95% defense debuff resistance almost by accident.
Now, the average defense debuff is 7.5%. 10% of that would be 0.75%, and an SR will only be affected by 5% for a total of 0.325% debuff per attack. If you have 46% defense, you would need to be hit with 4 of those debuffs within 10 seconds to drop below the soft cap. The odds of being hit by 4 debuffs within 10 seconds are not good when you have that much defense to begin with. -
Why should you make Vigilante progress for doing something a Vigilante would never do (ala Hero missions)?
I saw the same argument a few months ago actually.
Another poster was complaining that they were not making progress toward their Hero merits when they ran Vigilante missions. Since your progress is based on your reputation as a Hero, why should you make progress as a Hero when you are doing things like letting people die so you can chase down the bad guy, or outright killing someone?
It's called consequences for your actions. If you could be whatever alignment you wanted and make progress in your own alignment for doing whatever you wanted, there would be ZERO consequences for any of the choices you made in regards to your alignment.
Now, if there were no consequences for switching your alignment, what would be the point of the choice even existing? -
Quote:The powersets you want for free are powersets that EVERYONE has to pay for, without exception.Hmmm I've said my piece, why continue posting?.
While subscribed I want to get the powersets for free, without waiting months for each one.
I'm perfectly happy with them making me pay to 'keep' premium powersets, but not pay for them while I'm already paying them monthly.
I prefer the Turbine/Cryptic model of Hybrid payment, rather than this stange double dipping method Paragon are implementing.
By subscribing, you have the ability to eventually get them for free. Free and Premium players do not get that perk. If they want that set, they are dropping $10 out of their own pocket, while you, on the other hand, will get them after 2 months with no additional expense on top of your normal subscription fee.
They pay $10, you pay nothing, but have to wait until you accrue enough points.
I'm sorry, I don't see the logic of your complaint. Now, if they were not giving us any points for free and making us pay the $10 out of pocket as well, maybe THEN I could see your complaint as being a little more reasonable.
Your complaint is caused by your own impatience, nothing more. -
Quote:I disagree.I would think it is intended, if it had the same amount of regen resistance it would, imo, be a little OP.
You wouldn't give Tanker SR less debuff resistance because it would be overpowered to be unable to debuff a tank's defense, would you?
If an aspect of a set is enhanceable for one AT that it is available for, it should be enhanceable for ALL ATs it is available for. -
You have to enhance Fast Healing to enhance the debuff resistance. If you're one of those players that didn't bother slotting it because you felt adding more regeneration was pointless, then your debuff resistance is going to suffer as well.
I believe the 50% resistance available at 50 will be enough to take enough of the edge off the monster debuffs that hit you to allow Instant Healing to counteract it. (currently those debuffs kill IH too) -
If they're going to add +Res to it, it should at least be a flat addition to it, instead of a chance to do it.

What the devs are doing with CoH Freedom is amending the agreement.
Subscribed players are not paying for content, and they will not be paying for content in the future. Their subscription fee grants them full access to the servers and everything on them.
Free and Premium players, however, will be paying for some of the content. The vast majority of it is free for them, but since they are being given access to the servers free of charge, they will have to pay for select pieces of content.
Buying a box does not give you any more privileges than downloading the game does. You aren't entitled to full access simply because you bought a physical object.
Just because you bought a phone doesn't mean you can keep using it if you stop paying your bill.
Just because you paid an enrollment fee does not mean you can keep going to the gym if you stop paying your membership fee.
Buying a satellite dish doesn't mean you keep getting service when you quit paying your bill.
What the devs are doing is saying "Yes, you CAN keep playing if you quit paying your subscription, only you won't get to play everything you could before."
They are giving us an option that is unheard of in ANY other service or business that requires a recurring fee. In all of my above examples, if you stop paying the associated fee you get nothing until you start paying again. That is not only commonplace, but that is the way virtually every recurring fee based service in the world works.
The devs are giving us, for free, part of what formerly cost us $15 a month. And people have the audacity to complain that they lose access to some of it because they stopped paying for it.
It's frigging FREE! Why are you complaining about getting something for free?! That is the part that doesn't make any sense to me.
Something for free is better than nothing for free. It's the simplest math in the world: 1 is more than 0. -
Quote:This statement....it confuses me.
Radiation/Mental Manipulation too much AOE?
Too much AoE? This does not compute. -
Quote:You'll still want accuracy in your attacks. For leveling purposes, would Targeting Drone slotted with three To-Hit Buffs be sufficient? I don't play blasters but a buddy of mine just dusted off his old Fire/Devices and was asking about that and I really wasn't sure.
Targeting Drone is nice, but once you start fighting enemies with defense buffs the to-hit it grants you isn't going to help as much as accuracy.
Defense takes away from to-hit directly. So, if you normally have 75% to-hit and your target has 15% defense you will have a 60% chance to hit him. Accuracy is calculated AFTER that calculation. So, if you have 25% accuracy from somewhere, you will be right back at 75% because 25% of 60 is 15.
The basic breakdown of how your final to-hit is calculated goes like this:
To-hit--> -Defense--> +Accuracy. Or, your to-hit minus your targets defense plus your accuracy.
That is why AVs have a to-hit floor of 7.5% instead of 5%. You can get them down to 5% on their to-hit, but they get a 50% accuracy bonus on top of that.
Hope that made sense. -
Quote:Depends entirely on what AT you are playing.I tend to hear the opposite. If you wanna level fast, you wanna set your difficulty to -1 so you can defeat enemies a lot faster. From what I hear the individual enemy may give you less XP, but since you kill them faster, your XP per minute would increase.
That would be a good setting for an AoE heavy scrapper (larger numbers of weaker enemies)
Not so good for a single target focused stalker though.
Essentially, you want to find your particular character's sweet spot. Once you find it, play at the setting that gives you the largest number of the toughest enemies you can defeat in a reasonable time frame. That setting is going to be different for every AT, power set, and player. -
Quote:He has absolutely no clue what he's talking about.Isn't there a saying about discussing potential litigation on the interwebz?
I highly advise you to contact a lawyer who will talk to you for free about your case before you spend any money.
Before that, I advise you to read the EULA that you agree to every time you log in.
There isn't a judge on the planet that would find in his favor if he attempted to sue them.
The agreement is: You pay a subscription fee in return for access to the servers. You are NOT being charged for the content on the servers, just for access to them.
If the company who owns those servers chooses to let people have access to them on a limited basis free of charge, that is their prerogative. They are in no way, shape, or form obligated to give everyone equal access to the game free of charge, regardless of anything those people may have paid in the past.
Not one of us actually OWNS anything related to the game. When we bought a game box (if we did), we were essentially paying an enrollment fee. Thinking that you should be able to use everything for free because you bought a physical box is no different than buying a phone and thinking you should be able to make calls on it for free. ANY phone you buy will have a service fee associated with it, you don't get free service just because you bought the phone itself. This game is no different.
Because the developers decided they were going to allow limited access to the game free of charge does NOT, in any way, shape, or form mean that we are entitled to the same privileges as a paying subscriber when we are playing for free. It really is THAT simple.
I get the feeling T Immortalus is the kind of person who would demand that he be given a full meal when he is offered an appetizer for free, and complain when his demand is not met out of some sense that he deserves to have the same thing people are paying for given to him for nothing. The sheer amount of entitlement emanating from him is astounding. -
Nice. Smallest number I've seen successfully pull it off.
Gratz. -
Quote:Have fun with that.I for one would have no interest in playing Manip/manip. That said, if it's something they could add relatively easily to the Paragon store and earn a bit of cash off, go for it.
What I'd really like to see is Melee/Support (or Support/Melee). I'd drop a bit of cash to play Dark Melee/Time Manipulation.
Melee/Support would be a HORRIBLE combination in this game. You are forced into melee to deal damage, yet you don't have any of the tools necessary to survive in it.
It can work in other games, but other games have things like armor to protect your character. We just have powers, and if you don't have self protective powers being in melee for extended lengths of time is asking for a dirt nap. -
Quote:Not to put too fine a point on it, but when people are shooting back at you, standing in one place is generally a bad idea. No, I specifically meant 'Duel Pistols' as it'd be the opposite of our current incarnation of 'Dual Pistols'...that is, rather than flip around while you're shooting, you stand *in place* and shoot. Just like what everyone wants, right?
Aside from some of the flashiness of the attacks, I LIKE the fact that Dual Pistols has movement in it when you are firing your guns. When I see some one in a gunfight standing stock still, I don't think they're cool or brave, I think they're a damn idiot for making themselves such an easy target.
