That's 42% defense from a defender who is also running Maneuvers.
Add Combat Jumping or Hover and a Steadfast Res/Def and you're soft-capped.
You can get really good amounts of defense out of Farsight if you stack it with other sources.
One Time Manipulation character isn't particularly impressive, but multiple TM characters will get stupid powerful pretty quickly. The fact that the individual powers aren't that strong on their own just means the set will stack very well with itself. -
Quote:It very much IS the Willpower of support sets. It has a wide variety of effects, but it doesn't specialize in any one thing.I miss having a single target heal, and the long recharges on the AoE heals can be a bother compared to traditional sets. Its -regen also isn't as impressive as sets like Rad or Dark.
It's a good set, but not without its downsides. It's not the perfect set.
Rad and Dark will out do it with -regen.
Kinetics will out do it with +recharge and +damage.
Thermal will out buff it.
Empathy will out heal and out buff it.
Cold will out buff and out debuff it.
Even Poison will probably out buff it.
Time Manipulation isn't more powerful than any of those sets at what those sets do well, in fact it is weaker than most of them in the specific effects. But from my limited experience so far it is more versatile than most of them.
Time has a trick for any situation, but if you want to come prepared for a specific situation, bring something more specialized for that situation. -
Quote:The downside to that idea is that it would change how OUR powers worked too. Since NPCs use the same powers we do for the most part, changing them to straight line trajectories would force us to have to aim our powers manually as well.Hehe...
Still to this day, my Blaster's see a rock hurling at them and always try to side step it. It amazes me that those werewolves had the time to install heat seeking tech in every single rock around them.Phasing tech too! Things come flying around corners and thru walls and other Heroes just to smack me in the face!
So, it wouldn't be a hard transition for me to make personally. I don't think the engine is capable of that level of detection though. With tohit checks etc, once the power is activated it's either going to hit or miss. Not sure how they could code it to miss only in this event. I can't see them changing ranged powers to be straight line activations, which would be the simple way of 'Get outta the way' gameplay.
I don't know about you, but in a game that still has rooting, I don't want to try and aim my powers manually, especially in cases where the enemy is flying or running away from us. -
I like the idea of enemies with powers you can avoid. But I'm an old school twitch gamer. Things like that are right up my alley. Not everyone who plays is a twitch gamer though.
It is NOT cool for those older players who may have never played a video game before this one (yes, they exist), because they don't have the reflexes honed from years of gaming that some of us younger players do. It would suck to have enemies with autohit, but avoidable attacks when you don't have the reflexes necessary to avoid them.
Adding a couple more enemies with avoidable powers would be cool, but don't add so many that players with slower reaction times will get frustrated with the game. -
Some people LIKE a power set that is just "a guy with a bow".
Adding all kinds of extraneous crap to it would ruin the set for a lot of people that enjoy the fact that it is a viable "Natural" set, of which there aren't a whole lot of options for.
Going to have to say no as well.
Also: The devs have NEVER (to my knowledge) completely overhauled a set because someone said "I want it!". If you want it to happen, you're going to have to provide some compelling reasons for it to happen. And it isn't US you have to convince, it's the people at Paragon Studios actually doing the work that are in need of convincing.
If you want a damage type that isn't lethal, play a different set. Don't demand that the devs change an existing one to suit your desire. -
Quote:As a general rule: The brute will level faster, due to fury giving them a huge damage boost early on, before you can decently enhance your powers. After SOs the scrapper catches up.So I discovered!
I feel a little silly for not anticipating that, I guess. Here I was hoping to get some insight into why I might choose to try a Brute after all my years loving Scrappers, only to find that none of the discussion pertained to me and my level 1 toon (or even the first 40 levels of his career). So much for getting a feel for which AT might fit my playing style better. Even when playing style was thrown into the mix in those threads, it seemed to be "playing style" only within the context of max-level-you-have-top-tier-IOs-slotted-of-course characters.
Really, I've found it's pretty much a wash between scrapper and brute. I just go with whichever one strikes my fancy at the time of character creation (assuming the powersets I want are available to both) -
Will have to check this out.
If you've played it already, please NO SPOILERS!
(That is not only for my benefit, but also for the benefit of other people who like to find things out for themselves) -
Here's another vote for Pinnacle.
Bring some beer with you and you'll be welcomed with open arms. -
I opted against Hasten on my BS/DA.
My goal was positional soft-cap on that character, so there were powers I needed to achieve that goal.
Also, the lack of Hasten means my endurance won't be taking quite as much of a hit while fighting. Not just from the endurance crash, but when you're attacking faster you burn more end from your attacks. Since my build can solo AVs without Hasten I saw no reason to take it.
Like Desmodos said, without seeing your build I can't really give any solid advice, I'm just giving another viewpoint. -
They are limited on channels they can use for a valid reason.
1) RMT spammers. If free accounts can use broadcast and send tells, they can and will put so many people in the game spamming their wares that it will be impossible to use any channels they are in to actually communicate. They won't care if a free account gets banned, they'll jjst make another one and be right back at it within 10 minutes.
Do you WANT RMT spammers to be the majority of people using broadcast? I certainly don't. They know very well that if they spam long enough, sooner or later a sucker will be dumb enough to buy from them and get their credit card information stolen.
2) Jacktards. In any free game, you will find people who joined it for the SOLE reason of being a jerk and harrassing people. It's a lot less fun for them if they are limited in how many people they can annoy. And again, these are people who will react to a ban by starting a new account and being right back at it within minutes. And if they get their IP address banned, they won't care because they didn'tspend a dime on the game.
Both of those things are valid reasons why free accounts need to be limited in communication. If they were not, we'd be right back to everyone filling up their global ignore list with spammers and jerks (yes, that list has a limit, I hit it a long time ago when spamers could use email to spam people)
The LAST thing this game needs is to have it's new players inundated with RMT spam and abused by malicious "players". Players who have to deal with that crap the entire time they play will not stick around long. I know I wouldn't, and if you think about it you probably wouldn't either. -
You're on Virtue and you call it a dead server? You DO realize that Virtue is one of the 2 most populated servers we have right?

I'd like to see katana get a hand-and-a-half sword. The other term for it is censored by the forums, it's synonymous with a child who has no father.
Being a 2 handed weapon, it would be appropriate for it to be wielded similar to a katana.
A model for it already exists in game as well. (Look above the fireplace in Manticore's mansion in Twinshot's story arc) -

Quote:It's not necessary at all. It IS fun to have characters that can do things they weren't intended to though. Soloing a Giant Monster with a Defender is an awesome thing, and soloing AVs with a scrapper is just as fun.I guess what I'm wondering is this: has the game become one in which the top tier stuff is necessary to adequately participate in all the end-game content? If so, then it seems to me that the game design needs to find ways to make this doable without such an artificial and unpleasant metagame practice as farming. If not, then why are so many players chasing the top tier stuff as if it was necessary?
I'll let you in on a secret (well, not really a secret, but still): I do not actually have the vast majority of the IOs you see in builds I post. When I work out a build, I view it more as something to work toward. I have never had the cash to put together a build in Mid's and log in and buy it all at once. If I put together a nice build, and I'm really interested in building that character, it will take me several months to finish it. (Hell, my BS/DA scrapper took almost 2 years to finish, I still need a couple pieces for him to be honest)
Bottom line: Just because you see a lot of expensive stuff in a build doesn't necessarily mean that person actually HAS all that stuff. -
Quote:Just a quick note:Once he hits 47, and can set (even cheap sets) the END issues should become a lot better I hope; we'll see.
You don't HAVE to wait until level 47 to start slotting IOs. In fact, if you're aiming for adding defense to a Dark Armor build the two best sets for that cap at levels 30 and 35 respectively (AND one of them will help with endurance issues).
Always remember: A set capping at 50 does NOT automatically make it better than a set that caps at a lower level. And with all the various ways we have of acquiring things, price is not even a factor anymore if you're patient enough.
As an example, one of the sets that I mentioned above is Eradication. The set bonuses it gives you are 1.8% max End, 3.13 E/N defense, and 2.25% Max HP (highest non-purple HP bonus). The set caps at 30, but you only need 4 pieces of it at most, so you can fill 2 more slots with enhancements to make up any enhancement deficiency in the set. I like 4 slottying Eradication and adding 2 Scirocco's Dervish in to boost the enhancement values. -
My choice would depend on my secondary.
If I were playing something like Dark Armor, Electric or Fire, I'd go with Broadsword, because Parry is just that good at adding defense to secondaries that lack it.
If I were playing something like SR, Invuln, or Shield (i.e. sets that don't need Parry's defense boost), I'd go with Axe or Mace. The specific choice would be up to character concept, but I'd lean toward Mace with all other things being equal. -
Is Farsight possible to perma?
If so, how much recharge does it take? -
It frequently logs me out while I'm typing a post.
It is aggravating as all hell to spend 10 minutes typing a long post and have it pop up that you cannot do that because the forums logged you out spontaneously while you were typing away. -
Unfortunately Sam, what your idea would do is reinforce the belief that only AoEs are ever worth taking. Ever.
I like my single target focused characters. I frequently do not WANT my damage spread out between that boss any anyone near him because every power in the game is an AoE. When I target a boss with a single target chain, it's because I want THAT guy dead RIGHT AWAY. If all attacks spread damage in an AoE every time you used them, bosses would always be the last enemy killed in a spawn. A boss can do a LOT of damage in that time.
It would make any and all boss-killing specialists effectively neutered. Their attacks would all be hitting more than one target, and thus weaker. My Sonic/Devices blaster, for example, is built for taking out bosses FAST. If my chain were splashing part of it's damage to any nearby enemy it would completely ruin my build and my concept. -
I've been using them. I'll swap them out later, but for the first few levels it's nice to have enhancements that give a decent amount of enhancement to them.
I'd much prefer Accuracy over Damage, but oh well. -
Quote:That's an interesting idea.As far as AoE goes, I still maintain my opinion from that other thread - a system of distributing attack damage across all affected foes so that the more people you hit, the less damage you do would be a nice balancing factor, especially if it came with the change to make all single-target attacks have AoE potential. That's neither here nor there, though.
I don't think it should apply to ALL single target attacks though. It's pretty hard to hit more than one person at a time with a power like Cobra Strike or Crane Kick. -
Quote:Sam and Aura have pegged the way I feel about both Incarnates and this issue perfectly.
I'm okay with Incarnates. It gives my 50s more to do, but I don't feel like I HAVE to do it. I can run a trial if I see one forming when I'm in the mood for it, or I can do something else instead. I was always pretty ambivalent about the whole thing, and did not understand the people who had to have everything the system offered RIGHT NOW.
I'll eventually get my main completely Incarnated out, but since I don't plan on going anywhere, I'm in no rush to do it.
I'm REALLY enjoying:
-Time Manipulation. Paired with Fire Blast on a defender it's pretty awesome. I also have an Illusion/Time controller (might be a future GM soloer in the making there)
-Katana and Broadsword on brutes. remade my BS/DA scrapper as a brute on the VIP server, and rolled up a Katana/Electric brute as well.
-New character creator. I like the way the new one is laid out, it's a little more intuitive. I also like that you can preview pieces you don't have yet.
-For the most part I like the Paragon Points system (even as slow as the market is). I can get things like JUST the Barbarian sword, or JUST the minotaur head, without having to buy a whole booster pack to get them. There are so many costume pieces that I have never once used sitting in my creator, that I only have because I wanted a few pieces out of the booster pack. I didn't have any trouble navigating the market, it felt pretty intuitive to me. Maybe that's a case of my brain working differently than some people's, because lack of intuitiveness is one of the complaints about it I've seen.
Something I would still like to see (but probably won't): I like that they are proliferating more powersets, but I still would like each AT to have ONE set that is exclusive to it. As of right now, the only exclusive sets left are Ninjitsu, Ice Melee, and Illusion. And I'm betting Ninjitsu and Ice Melee will be in the next round of proliferation at least. But that's a minor gripe. I'm pretty sure this one is long past being a possibility.
Oh yeah, almost forgot: I LOVE the Regen buffs. Longbow don't completely kill my regen anymore. -
Quote:The mission content is okay.I'm going to go so far as to say that the mission content in Port Oakes and Cap au Diable (as well as the rest of redside) isn't really in need of updating. They did it right the first time, unlike most of blueside.
I was more thinking about the visual update.
Maybe a new contact or two, or clean up some of the more monotonous arcs. -
Quote:It's a "not even considering buying" for me. Unlike a lot of people, I build my characters for concept first, and then powergame them within those constraints. Example: I don't give a chrome-plated turd that Blaze Mastery is the best APP for scrappers, I won't take it if it doesn't match my concept.Because it invalidates all previous character builds that didn't rely on something like Ninja Run? It's a MUST BUY for most people, which I think sets a really bad precedent.
Since I don't currently have any character ideas that call for a red rocket board, it will sit in the store unpurchased until such time as I do. It's going to be there for a while.
And it doesn't invalidate a damn thing. How exactly does a travel power that you cannot use ANY of your powers while using invalidate anything? With Flight, if something attacks me while I'm traveling through a zone, I can fight it off without having to shut my travel power off. Rocket Board doesn't give you that option.
Also, how many people use the travel pools JUST for the travel powers? No one takes Hasten, Combat Jumping, Hover, Air Superiority, or Recall Friend? If you choose to ignore travel pools in favor of a power that shuts off all your other powers, you're welcome to do so, but you're going to be ignoring a lot of other useful powers as well.
Doom? Not even close. -
The only things I don't like are as follows:
-New tutorial is very short, and there doesn't seem to be an option for people who play with no sound. I didn't even realize there was a voiceover until I happened to play with the sound on last night.
-CoT wearing tights.
-New Atlas missions will get old quickly, they're pretty linear. That said, they ARE pretty cool.
-My computer sucks and I can't see how awesome Atlas Park looks now (not the game's fault, but it deserved a mention)
-The icons over the heads of contacts are kind of annoying. I can live with it, but I kind of wish there was an option to turn them off.
Pretty much everything else I'm anywhere from indifferent to elated about. I generally don't complain much, as I'm generally pretty happy with the game. I just figured I'd be fair and mention the things I see as flaws along with the unbridled awesome that is the stuff I like about it.
In my opinion, the devs pulled off a helluva feat this time around. They released something that the majority of players are happy with. I'm sure there are some sour grapes, but so far I haven't seen much doom on the boards.
Kudos, devs. You done good on this one!
