I think it went $5.99 for 1, $9.99 for 2, and $19.99 for 5. Obviously the $19.99 was the best deal.
  2. Invuln focuses on Typed defense. Titanium Coating gives you 1.25% Smashing/Lethal defense for 6 slots. Reactive Armor gives you the same amount AND 1.25% Energy/Negative defense for only 4 slots. It's pretty obvious which set would be the better choice for an Invuln. That would give you 6 slots to use elsewhere as well.

The Mako's Bites 4 slotted aren't helping either. Kinetic Combat would be the better choice. 3.75% Smashing/Lethal defense for 4 slots.

I'd slot Whirlyhands with 4 Eradication and 2 Scirocco's Dervish. You want Energy/Negative efense, since your resistance to those types is relatively low.

I have to agree with the other posters though, Invun/EM is a very poor choice for farming, though there is nothing wrong with it for general play. Energy Melee's almost complete lack of AoE is what hurts it for farming. You'll have no problem surviving against Smashing damage using enemies, but you aren't going to defeat them very fast, which is kind of the point in farming.

If you have a character that would make a better farmer, I recommend using that one instead, and keeping this one for general play. Fiery Aura is one of the better farming combos, and I've seen Electric tanks make decent farmers as well.
  3. Dark Melee is a very good pairing for Invuln. With moderate IO slotting you can make an Invul/DM virtually immortal versus everything but Psi damage.

I recommend getting to at least 55% global recharge and having 3 slotted Hasten. That way you will have Perma Dull Pain. Since you have Siphon Life to help keep your HP topped off, you can keep DP perma, as the heal from it won't be as important to you.

By giving me a free transfer every month, they are effectively giving me a free rename every other month.

It's because defense is useful to all ATs, while resistance is only useful to those with other means of survival.

Since most ATs cap at 75%, and don't get much more than 30% in any option they have, it would be virtually impossible to get enough resistance to make a difference in their survival.

Defense on the other hand is universally just as useful for survival for anyone.
  9. I have a StJ/Invuln sitting at level 18 at the moment.

Due to the lack of places to slot PBAoE sets my build isn't softcapped, so I settled for 41% to S/L/E/N, on the theory that Invincibility should keep me softcapped in most situations. I need to have 4 or 5 in range to hit softcap, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Looks pretty tough so far, and I'm having no major survival issues other than jumping into things that are still over my head (that'll change once I get my defense up there though)

No, everyone is getting about the same mileage out of Reactive Armor on a Shield Defense character. Not much.

Try getting 6 slots in True Grit (if you don't already, I can't look at the build from work), and slotting 3 Numina's (not the proc, that should go in Health or Physical Perfection), and 3 Aegis.

The bonuses in Reactive Armor are nice if you're looking for typed defense. But you're looking for positional defense. You burned 4 slots to get 0.63% defense to ranged and melee. 3 Aegis will net you 1.56% AoE defense for 3 slots. Since you're already softcapped to melee and ranged, losing that 0.63% probably isn't going to hurt you, and a little more AoE defense can only help.

Plus it means you can slot the power for it's main purpose: Raising your Max HP.

Also, moving Gaussian's to FA to take advantage of the proc is a bad idea. FA is a notoriously end hungry power. If you're going to slot it in a toggle, take Tactics instead. If you don't have or don't want Tactics, Build Up is an acceptable alternative. I put it there quite frequently if I find my build is too tight to fit Tactics into it.

I doubt it is working in game though, it's flagged as melee/smashing, which so far has meant that it will not accept range enhancements, or they will not work if they are part of something else (Like an IO or HO)

Smersh answered it already, but I figured I'd reply since you were talking to me.

Wolverine and Phoenix are blocked, though they are common words and the word alone is not enough to violate a trademark.

They are blocked because if they were not, it is guaranteed that someone would violate the trademark almost immediately. Wolverine in particular is an extremely popular character. I've lost count of the number of "Wolverines" I've seen in the game, using various means of getting around the blocked name.

A character like Thor is a better example. Marvel cannot sue anyone for using the name, or even the character of Thor, because he is a mythological figure that has existed for hundreds of years. However, they can sue if someone violates the trademark they have on their specific version of Thor.

Their version is characterized as a blond man with long hair who wears a winged helmet and red cape. He also speaks in heraldic English. That version of him is unlike any other version of Thor I've ever run across (he is usually depicted as a large red-haired man with a beard who wears more traditional Viking clothing), which makes their version of him unique enough to trademark.

The name Thor is blocked because there is a specific version of him trademarked by a company who deals in a similar medium (superhero stories). And you can bet that if it weren't, someone would have ripped off Marvel's version of him. I've seen numerous examples of people trying to get around the block, probably due to the very recently released movie.

It has nothing to do with how highly we think of our game.

CoH has managed to almost completely eliminate the RMT spam from the game. They were here in force fro a while, and largely gave up when they realized they were going to have to spend a significant amount of money to try and sell their crap. They balked at that.

The devs here made it too inconvenient for them to sit around and spam their crap all day long, so they largely left the game. You might run into some of them on Freedom or Virtue, but I haven't seen any RMT spam on Pinnacle in over a year now.

What you're seeing now is the result of the devs efforts. Like I said, you aren't seeing the RMT spam because the devs efforts to get rid of it actually worked.

It's not because they weren't trying to peddle their crap here, it was just made too difficult.

You're basically looking at it like "I don't see any RMT spam, so you don't know what you're talking about."

You weren't here 2 years ago. I was, and I remember clearing out my inbox every time I logged in, and staying hidden from searches just so I wouldn't get bombarded with tells from spammers the whole time I was playing.

It was literally impossible to communicate in any public channel for a while due to the sheer volume of "Buy X influence for X real cash from RMTsite.com" spam that was occurring in any populated zone. There were 10 or 12 random costumed, gibberish-named toons standing around at any given time spamming the name of the site they worked for every few seconds, all day, every day.

My global ignore list is STILL completely filled with spammers to the point that any new addition to it knocks someone else out of it. You can global ignore a couple hundred people at a time, and I filled my list for the first time in less than a week.

RMT sites are a horrible nuisance to gamers. They interrupt your playtime with their spam, and if you are stupid enough to buy from them they will steal your credit card information and use it to start a new account to farm with. If you are stupid enough to give them your account information so they can PL you, they will start sending their spam from YOUR account, which has the end result of getting you banned for being a spammer.

RMT spammers were a horrible plague on this game for a while, and the devs finally managed to curb it. Unfortunately, it is inconvenient for free players because of the measures they had to take to solve the problem. Unless you don't mind spammers trying to sell you crap being the overwhelming majority of the communication you receive in the game, to the point that you have to sift through dozens of tells to find the one person who was asking you if you wanted to team.

The sad part is, I'm not really exaggerating any of that, it really WAS that bad for a while.

I'm kind of torn on it, actually. I would like for free players to be able to communicate better. But at the same time, I understand and agree with the steps the devs took to get rid of the RMTers.

And yes, I'm aware that you haven't seen much of anything from RMT sites. That just means that what the devs did worked.

I never said that. My point was, all the information and testing in the world is not going to help someone who knows nothing whatsoever about how things in the game are supposed to work.

A set could be horribly broken and none of the powers work how they're supposed to, but a person who has never played the game before would have very little knowledge that would tell them something isn't right about it.

To use my car analogy again, it's like letting someone test drive a car who has never driven before. Sure, they can get a feel for the car, but never having driven before they wouldn't know if the car drives good or bad compared to other cars.
  16. As far as my attack chain goes....I'm not even going to try and figure one out. What I'm going to do is take all the attacks in teh set and chain them together in random orders, and maybe throw Kick in on occasion as well (because it looks like the kind of kick a street fighter would use)

To me, the feel and look of this set is far more important then the pure numbers. By chaining things together in a random order it looks like my character is actually fighting someone, as opposed to going through the same motions over and over again. And that's what makes the set fun to me.

Big thread on the forums from a redname telling people to ask for a level bump on the beta server if they wanted to test out the higher levels of a powerset. So, time to level was a non-issue.

You also seem to be ignoring the new players coming in who don't really get (IMO) a good method of trying out powersets before purchasing them.

    Quote:
Just for the record, I was in the i21 BETA and did get to test this set out before buying it.
As could anyone else who was so inclined. Anyone with an active subscription could have beta tested that powerset.

Anyone who did NOT beta test it could have:

-Asked someone who did for details about it.
-[Typed the name of the powers in their in-game chat window like this to see what they did]
-Looked in Mid's for the numbers, which were released the very next day after release.
-Watched the videos that had been floating around for several weeks prior to it's release.
-Asked people in-game what they thought of it after a couple days before spending money on it.

For the record, the devs have never given us the numbers of a set before it hits the live servers. EVER. They do that so if they have to change something about the set at the last minute, they aren't changing something they already said would be a certain way.

When it did go live, the information was available within hours if you simply looked for it.

I'd hardly call all that unreasonable methods of obtaining information.

For an analogy, do you simply accept what an automaker tells you about their product before buying a car from them? Or do you look for information from people who aren't being paid to tell you the product is great?

An automaker isn't going to tell you that their cupholders are too shallow and your drink will frequently fall out of them. They aren't going to tell you the gearshift is in an awkward location. They won't tell you the pedals are too far apart. They won't tell you that the vehicle rides like a truck and is extremely noisy on the highway. If you want to know those things, you ask someone who actually owns one or has driven one before.

What they WILL tell you is all the good features of the car, such as it's exceptional fuel mileage and above average storage space. Car commercials are all very similar. They will all tell you the things about their vehicle that are better than their competitors, while ignoring the things their competitor out did them on. If one truck has better gas mileage, they will tell you that, while the competitor will emphasize the better towing or hauling capacity their truck has.

Don't rely on what the makers of a product tell you about it. If you want to know what it's really like, ask someone who has experience with it. Even if the devs did let us preview powersets before we buy them, that isn't going to tell us squat about how that set plays at 50, or how it synergizes with other powersets.

I agree with this one. Not being able to pass my teammate a wakie is, to put it bluntly, ******* stupid.

At least when we couldn't pass inspirations to the opposite faction there was some kind of logic as to why we couldn't. A hero not being able to give an inspiration to another hero just because one of them isn't paying money makes no sense at all. Unless they expect the free player to spend $15 while they're in the mission so they can receive an inspiration.

I think free players should be restricted on what channels they can use to keep the RMTers in check, but if *I* send someone a tell they should at least be able to hit backspace to respond to me.

A free play chat channel that is effectively a clone of broadcast would be nice. You can remove channels from your chat window so you don't have to see them, so if you want to avoid the dirty freebies you can, and they will be able to communicate with people farther than 30 feet away.

I can imagine how frustrating it has to be to not be able to talk to all the people you can see zipping by you. There was one poor guy that got stuck in the game geometry and couldn't figure out how to extricate himself. He'd been there shouting for help in Local for 15 minutes before I happened to pass by and hear him. I explained the /stuck command and all was well, but if there were more places he could have asked he wouldn't have been sitting there that long (I also told him about the help channel, as he didn't realize he could talk in that one too)

That doesn't mean they were obligated to do it. Being obligated to do something means you have no choice in the matter. They chose to give you your money back.

I'm absolutely positive there is no policy in place at that establishment that says they HAVE to give someone a refund if they say they didn't like a movie they saw there. If there were that theater would quickly be out of business when people start demanding refunds for every movie they ever see there. Because people will lie about not liking a movie if it means they got to see it for free. And if they know a theater has a policy of full refunds if you don't enjoy the movie (which is no fault of the theaters), people will go out of their way to go to that particular theater to see a free movie.

So, no, they were not obligated to give you a refund. The fact that the theater is still in business illustrates that nicely.
  20. Have fun with your entitlement issues.

You failed to do any research at all before spending money on something the second it became available.

You spent money on something before you knew anything about it. And now your'e upset because you don't like it and want your money back, which you spent on a completely uninformed purchase?

    Tough.

By your logic, if I don't like a movie that I paid money to see, the movie theater is obligated to give my money back, even though I had ample time and ability to research what the movie was about and what other people thought of it first.

Doesn't work like that. Expecting paragon to give your money back every time you impulse buy something you didn't research first is completely unrealistic.

Chalk it up to a lesson learned. If you had waited 24 hours before making your purchase, you could have viewed the numbers in Mid's and/or gotten feedback from other players before buying it. The feedback wouldn't have helped much, because most of the people I've talked to love the set and you're claiming it's the worst set in the entire game.

Doesn't change the fact that you bought something sight unseen without even the slightest attempt at finding out anything about it. You are now the proud owner of a powerset you hate because of that.

And just for the record: It is highly doubtful that the devs give a chrome-plated turd about losing you as a customer.

I was wrong. This thread is the worst example. The OP seems to feel that he is entitled to afk in a farm mission while someone else does all the work, and he's pissed that he can't find anyone to play the game for him.

    The name does NOT count.

Names like Deadpool, Batman, or Superman would count, because they are names that are formed by combining words not normally found together.

A name like Inferno, or Ricochet doesn't fall into the same category, because they are simply words.

If you create a Ricochet that does not have the same look and backstory/powers as an existing character, there is nothing that can be done about it, because you cannot copyright or trademark a common word.

    Example: http://marvel.com/universe/Ricochet_%28Johnny_Gallo%29

Now, there is a Praetorian character known as Ricochet. It is allowable because the characters share nothing other than the name, which is a common word (common word: found in the dictionary).

The DEVS can use names that trademarked characters share because they are in complete control of the use of that name, and can avoid any trademark violations. They don't allow US to use them because they can't control how we use the name, and trademark violations are sure to arise if we were allowed t use them.

AoE powers, the rule of thumb is if it will accept a range enhancement, it is a Targeted AoE, if it will NOT accept a range enhancement it is a PBAoE.

I suppose the question there is: Will Spinning Strike accept a generic range enhancement?
  24. I'll put it this way:

I min/max to some extent, but not to the point where only the most efficient thing possible is acceptable, which is where you seem to be coming from.

The ONLY place AoE DPS matters is in solo farming. On teams, you have teammates that will provide damage as well, so it doesn't matter in the slightest if you're dealing 30 damage less than you would if you could browbeat the devs into changing a power set to suit your preferences.

Since when does Efficiency = Fun? Mowing through things so fast that people have no idea what's going on, let alone have time to converse with their teammates isn't fun in my book. That's work. I don't know about you, but I don't work video games, I play them.

Maybe instead of insisting that Street Justice be changed into another AoE-spamming cookie cutter power set, why not just accept that maybe it's not your cup of tea and play a set that is already what you want it to be. There are a lot of people playing this game, and surprise, surprise, not all of them enjoy the same things as you. So, since not everyone enjoys the same things, why are you so damn determined that we should only have things that work how YOU want them to?
