Invuln/EM Farmer... for now.

I realize the amount of mixed feelings on farming but hear me out. The farming I am doing is for the Architect Tickets so that I can get the recipes I need or make and sell the ones I don't to buy the ones I need. But as I understand EM is not known for it's DPS. The build I am looking at creating is below and I would like some input on it. Included are also the set bonuses. Basically I went for as near as cap as possible for resistance and defense against smashing and lethal while also providing myself some damage buffs through bonuses. I skipped BU to go for Assault instead figuring that a small damage boost that's constant would be better than a large damage boost that lasts only a few seconds. If there's any slots that I can move around or a way to increase my DPS further without declaring bankruptcy I would love to hear it.

Is this an exisiting character or a new one? If it's new, there are much, much better choices for farming than a Invul/EM tank. Don't get me wrong, I have a Invul/EM that I still love playing, but it is not a good farming combo. I really think it would be better to start over with different power sets and possibly a different AT.

But if you want to stick with this character, I'd make many changes to the current build, dropping the Leadership pool first and foremost. (Vengeance, yikes!) Assault adds only a few additional damage points per attack at a very high end cost; I honestly think you'd be better off with Build Up slotted for high recharge.

I don't have time to do a complete build rework, but if you want high defense you need to slot for it, Titanium Coating is a very poor choice since it takes 6 slots to get less of a defense bonus than you'd get in 4 Reactive Armor. Non-damage toggles almost never need more than 4 slots. I think CJ is also overslotted given it's small base defense and low end cost.

Get the Steadfast +Def ASAP! It's a good choice for RPD, it and a single resistance common will get you to the resistance hard-cap.

You also have the Numina regen/recovery in DP, a bad idea since you only get the benefit from it when DP is active. Put it in Health instead.

The four Oblits in WH and Spring Attack are a poor choice because they have very low end reduction. In general, I'd try to 5-slot as many attacks possible with sets that give defense bonuses. Smashing Haymaker is a good choice for ST attacks; it's cheap and gives S/L def bonus in four slots.

if you are going to make something for farming EM is one of the worst choices you could make. Its not even the issue with its DPS, its the lack of Good AOE damage. Farming is about defeating large mobs quickly.. EM does not do this. I have a INV/EM and I would never pick him to farm with.. ever...

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

While I am a big proponent of "play what you like," I have to agree that in terms of farming, you'd be better off to start over from scratch even if that character is already IO-ed out at 50.

Inv is great. Em isn't as bad as some people say. Inv/Em is a poor-to-outright-terrible combo for farming, though.

Besides the terribad slotting, this is probably the worst combo ever for farming on a melee toon.

Invuln focuses on Typed defense. Titanium Coating gives you 1.25% Smashing/Lethal defense for 6 slots. Reactive Armor gives you the same amount AND 1.25% Energy/Negative defense for only 4 slots. It's pretty obvious which set would be the better choice for an Invuln. That would give you 6 slots to use elsewhere as well.

The Mako's Bites 4 slotted aren't helping either. Kinetic Combat would be the better choice. 3.75% Smashing/Lethal defense for 4 slots.

I'd slot Whirlyhands with 4 Eradication and 2 Scirocco's Dervish. You want Energy/Negative efense, since your resistance to those types is relatively low.

I have to agree with the other posters though, Invun/EM is a very poor choice for farming, though there is nothing wrong with it for general play. Energy Melee's almost complete lack of AoE is what hurts it for farming. You'll have no problem surviving against Smashing damage using enemies, but you aren't going to defeat them very fast, which is kind of the point in farming.

If you have a character that would make a better farmer, I recommend using that one instead, and keeping this one for general play. Fiery Aura is one of the better farming combos, and I've seen Electric tanks make decent farmers as well.

I do agree that EM is the worst for farming but I guess I failed to mention I already have a lvl 50 EM tank. I'm working on a SS/Fire brute right now but she's only lvl 41. I thought about taking vengeance because of the boost it gives but I realized soon afterward that I really don't need it. I also don't think I really need to worry about nrg/neg because I mainly use the tank for iTrials and S/L farming, I could be wrong though. But this is why I come to the forums, to get advice from people more in the know.

I have almost no experience on Incarnate trials so far, but everything I've read says they involve a ton of energy damage. I would interpret that to mean "slot for e/n defense on an I-trials character."

A level 1 /fire brute will farm faster than a 20 billions build, full T4 incarnates inv/em tanker. Numerous guides have been written on that very topic on the brute boards.

Just to be clear, Invul/EM is a fine choice for either general high-level tanking or Itrials. But for both of those having energy defense is very useful and I'd recommend building for at least 32% if not the soft-cap.

What Inuvl/EM will most emphatically not be good at is farming of any sort, including S/L farming. The problem isn't durability, it's lack of damage output, particularly in the form of AoEs. Invul is great at surviving S/L damage, but unlike FA, it doesn't contribute any damage.

Really, honestly, your level 41 SS/Fire brute will be a better choice for any farming, including S/L farming. You don't need maximum durability for farming, just enough that you don't die so often that it slows you down.

Heh, speaking of which I just got me SS/Fire brute to 50 today trying to farm prestige, which is slow as well... my Invuln/EM trying to make it through one mish by himself. I did switch to Pyre Mastery and my damage output is much much better, but still nowhere as fast as the brute. Now all I need to do is start raking in the shards and threads and I'll be all set for her and I'll revert my tank to a... something else. If you guys have any suggestions for an iTrial build for my tank I'm all ears, I'm going to go check the Brute thread.

Check Call_Me_Awesome 's Invul guide. For iTrials you'll want the energy/neg defense softcap (and still use purples/oranges - because the incarnate softcap is 59% and you'll face psi enemies too). The Brute forums don't talk much about Invul and it's way harder and pricier to softcap Brutes since they have scrapper numbers for the Invul powers and others like Weave.
