  1. Okay, here's a bit of logic for you.

What about the way individual powers behave in PvP?

Perhaps the coding would not be difficult to flag PvP on and off, I wouldn't know, as I have zero programming experience.

The way PvP currently functions you have all kinds of rules that don't exist in the PvE game.

A hold is limited to a 4 second base in PvP, no such limit in PvE. Doesn't SEEM like a big deal....until you think about the situation of an AoE hold that hits both an NPC and a player. Which version of the hold gets applied? It would likely have 2 different to-hit checks it would have to make, because the base to-hit is different. In PvE your base to-hit is 75% for most things. In PvP it is 50%. Does it use the 75% and give an unfair advantage against the player? Or does it use the 50% and be less effective against the NPC?

Telekinesis is the worst offender of this. Does the toggle stay on, leaving the player helpless? Or does it cut out after 4 seconds, making the power a waste of endurance against the NPC?

Even damage tables are different between them. Does a cone attack targeting both a player and an NPC use the PvE or PvP damage table for that attack?

There's a whole slew of problems that no one has even addressed here. Specifically how do you balance between PvP rules and PvE rules when you're in Perigrine Island?

It could be as simple as your rules change depending on whether you are flagged for PvP or not. Travel Suppression, Diminished Returns, hold limitations.

A scrapper who is flagged for PvP would suddenly be a sitting duck against any NPC with a hold power, since his mez protection no longer works.

THAT is why I was so against the idea earlier. It would involve inflicting the PvP rules on players in the PvE game. Which, make no bones about it, WILL drive people away from the game.

At level 12 you only have a limited number of powers and slots, and each new pair of slots becomes more noticable when you can put effective Enhancements in them. That sounds like more fun to me.

The way enhancements are handled has worked just fine for 5 years. Why go through all the trouble of fixing something that's not broken?

What you're suggesting is, basically, that the low levels be made even easier than they already are. I don't buy enhancements at all until level 12, and even then it's only for the powers that I really want to hit, or that burn a lot of endurance.

Being able to afford things is trivial these days. Have you seen what some of the common salvage has been going for lately? Buying DOs hasn't been an issue on any character I've leveled in the last year. And that's just with what they've earned themselves, I don't pass cash from my 50s anymore because it just isn't necessary.

What you've proposed here is a solution looking for a problem.
  3. Yes to alternate animations.

HELL FRIGGING NO to changing them without giving anyone the option of keeping the ones they like.

I bet you will get a LOT of responses saying more or less exactly what I just did.
  4. No. A thousand times no.

I enjoy PvPing when I'm in the mood for it. If I'm not in the mood to PvP the LAST thing I want is to have some jackhiole following me around spamming duel invites and saying "fite me fite me fite me fite me"

If you want to annihilate the population of the game and bring it many miles closer to death, open world PvP is the best way to do that.

An overwhelming majority of players in this game do not care for PvP, and probably never will. It being broken has NOTHING to do with their dislike of it, they just aren't interested in it. Looking at the forum registry I see that there are just over 160,000 active forum accounts. With a little fuzzy math I would say that would give us roughly 130,000 active accounts/players. Maybe 10% of that population actively engages in PvP and would enjoy a feature like this. 13,000 players. The remainder would probably not be at all happy that they have had PvP forced upon them, or at the very least shoved in their face. A decently large percentage of that 90% that is upset about open world PvP would quit, either immediately or very shortly.

In short, the game WOULD lose enough players that it's future would be in jeopardy. It might not kill it right away. but it would take enough of a hit that production would drastically slow because they wouldn't be bringing in as much revenue to spend on the game. They'd have to let go a lot of the staff they just hired to make all the changes that have been happening lately.

To put it bluntly, the devs would have to be IDIOTS to think any of that sounded like a sound business decision. I'm pretty confident that the devs are NOT idiots, so I don't think open world PvP will happen until they are about to pull the plug on the game anyway.
  5. I see no reason not to make the Natural Booster human-based.

True, you don't HAVE to be human to be natural origin, but since humans outnumber any of the extraterrestrial/interdimensional immigrants by a [i]wide[i/] margin, they should go with the one that will please the most will angering the fewest.

Some decent ideas in this thread so far.

    End Game Content

Okay. You want something unique to do at level 50.

I have no qualms with that. How about making an actual suggestion of something?

Instead of "I want more endgame content" say something like "I would like more endgame content, such as: (suggested content here)."

People continually say they want more stuff to do at high levels, but when asked to give an example of something they would like to see they tend to give a blank stare in return.

As a lot of the new stuff coming along in the near future is proving, the devs DO listen to the players. If you suggest something, they may like it and decide they want to do it. You run the risk of other players not liking your idea, but if you keep it to yourself it's guaranteed it will never happen.

I'd love to see the Maniac Slammers be stealthily given just Hurl and SuperSpeed and preference(range). And to stand around AP or Cap and just watch the broadcast channel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be pretty hilarious. I'd loveto be ON one of those teams with my ranged-softcapped hoverblaster with Cloaking Device. I'd be willing to bet I'd be the only one klilling anything.
  8. I haven't IO'd my WP scrapper yet, but my regen scrapper is sitting at 1812 HP (without DP, it's capped when it's active) and around 686% regen with just Integration running (he gets very close to the regen cap with IH up)

It's not the greatest numbers ever, but it's respectable, especially seeing as the build cost me just over 200 mil to put together.

I can probably squeeze out a little more max HP, but I'd lose some effectiveness to do it.

He's also sitting at between 14 and 20% defense to everything but Psi.
  9. Sam makes a lot of good points here.

I'm not against the idea, but I am forced to agree with him that it isn't really feasible or practical for the combat system we currently have.

If they had coded dynamic, tactically based combat into the game from the start it might have worked.

The catch to that is: If they HAD done that, would the game have been as successful as it is? A LOT of players like this game precisely because they don't need split second reflexes.

How long do you figure a 48 year old mother of 3 with carpal tunnel will continue to play if suddenly her reaction time and reflexes determined whether her character lived or died?

It would be great for your average 19-25 year old gamer, but what about the older crowd who didn't grow up playing twitch games that trained their reflexes to react in such situations?

    Weakest Combo?

True, there IS more mitigation in the set.

BUT, how long is it going to take you to kill your enemies with AR at defender damage scales? Soft control is all well and good, but sooner or later you WILL run out of tricks, and all that stuff you pissed off but didn't kill is gonna start hurting you.

Archery actually has a little more damage potential, which I regard as making you safer by removing the threat permanently, at a faster clip than Assault Rifle. (no pun intended)

Not MUCH more damage potential than AR, but probably enough to make a difference in kill speed. The only reason AR is a decent set now is due to the damage scales of the ATs that currently have it. Defender damage scale (unless they buff the set) will equate to pretty anemic damage.

(Note: This is all speculation and my opinion. Since we have no facts about Defender Assault Rifle to base anything on yet)

Edit: But we can probably agree that in either order Emp/Archery and Emp/AR will most likely be at the bottom of the defender food chain.

    I would take SJ.

If for no other reason than the fact that redside is a pain to navigate with SS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I find no problems, 99% of my redside toons have superspeed. You can always buy a jetpack for the times when up is your only option.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I don't really have problems with it. It's just that in certain areas it's nearly impossible to take a straight line anywhere without being able to get over buildings.

It's more that it's inconvenient and annoying, rather than unfeasible. As I mentioned above, my (eventual) crab spider will probably be getting SS as it's travel power. I dislike SS redside, but I HATE teleport, any side.
  12. Eh, I'm pretty happy with this round of proliferation.

Since BaBs specifically asked for sets that required a minimum of extra work to proliferate we got Rad Blast, Electric, Traps/Assault Rifle (), Claws, Broadsword, Thermal (for theme matching with Demon Summoning I'm guessing, they just did it now rather than later) Cold, and so on.

The very fact that we DIDN'T get Dark Blast for blasters, or Illusion for Dominators indicates (to me at least) that they have changes they are going to make before blasters and dominators get those sets.

Hopefully they don't burn and pillage Dark Blast as bad as they did Psi, but since those were the only two sets that appear to have been intended as defender exclusive, I'd say you can count on some changes.

Illusion control for dominators was resisted for a long time because it doesn't really have that many domination building tools. Also, now that the damage buff has been removed from Domination, an Illusion Dom would have a whole whopping 3 powers that benefit from it: Blind, Deceive, and Flash. Nowadays an Illusion Dom might as well not even HAVE an inherent for as much as you would notice it. It would be nothing more than an end refill and mez protection.

Illusion Doms would suck badly at control, but would shine as damage dealers. Possibly with more damage potential than the devs are willing to let Doms have.

I'd say that one of the 2(!) stealth powers in the set will be going away (prefer to see Group Invis gone) in favor of another power that benefits from Domination. The Spectral Terror might be on the chopping block as well, but that I'd say is less likely.

    Speed or Jump?

    I would take SJ.

If for no other reason than the fact that redside is a pain to navigate with SS.

I know very little about the brown recluse other than you probably want to avoid being bitten by one. I actually don't know that much about spiders. I know a lot about tarantulas, which technically are not true spiders, though they are related more closely to them than any other arachnid. I won't go into detail on the differences, but scientifically tarantulas and spiders are not the same thing.
  14. It depends on how much you team. If you solo a lot, many of the sets that seem unappealing are probably not what you want. If you team a lot many of the buffing sets are very valuable to have around.

I like Radiation Emission as a buffing/debuffing set. It's highly useful on teams, and can solo well. It only has two powers that can't be used on yourself, and both require a defeated teammate to use.

Storm is another good one. Dark Misama as well.

Thermal has a few powers that can't be used on yourself, but it gets good debuffs later in the set.

Cold Domination has a few that can't be used on yourself as well, but it has some of the best debuffs in the game later in the set. In fact, in my estimation Cold is the only set that can outperform Rad in an AV fight.

Although if you're basing your willingness to play a buffing character on being able to buff yourself I would say that maybe a buffer isn't your cup of tea.

I like Rad because of it's soloing ability. I don't like making characters that I can't play if I can't find a team, or don't feel like teaming. Thus far my ONLY defender to get past level 30 is a Rad/Sonic.

Other players really enjoy playing team-oriented characters and have numerous types that are nearly helpless solo but powerhouses on teams. All depends on how you like to play.

    Speed or Jump?

Well, that depends on what species you're being inspired by to create your spider.

I plan on making a crab spider inspired by Pterinochilus murinus, which is a species of tarantula that has a nasty bite (it won't kill you, but you will be hating life for a few days afterward), a bad attitude and moves incredibly fast. My travel power options are Super Speed or Teleport.

The teleport option is because the P. murinus is capable of moving faster than the human eye can follow, giving the impression that it teleported from one spot to another.

Another tarantula species I was considering was Heterascodra maculata which is similar in temperament to P. murinus and can also jump. The travel power options there would be SS or SJ, possibly both.

If you've never used SJ for travel before I would sugest trying it out on your spider. It's my favorite travel power and the prerequisite for it is useful for any character.

Still think Empathy/Assault Rifle will be weaker. It doesn't even get Aim.

I've had similar issues in the past. Either I had to be out of town, I had company visiting, or I absolutely HAD to work because I was not aware of it early enough to request the time off. This time, as soon as I knew the date, I requested off. This will be my first double xp weekend that I get to participate in and I'm stoked.

    Me.

My grandfather passed away, so I'll be spending the weekend 700 miles from my computer.

I might get a little bit of time in on Sunday, but that's far from guaranteed.

Honestly, I don't mind. My grandfather's funeral is FAR more important than any video game will ever be.

    Screw Rad blast

    [ QUOTE ]
but I could see keeping either Pit or Life Drain and just adding Aim.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If they axe Life Drain like I'm thinking they probably will, I'd still like to see it replaced with a ranged version of Follow Up. It would work nicely with the heavy DoT nature of Dark Blast. A constant lesser to-hit and damage boost would fit the set better than the spikyness of Aim. If coupled with a to-hit debuff it would even fit the theme of Dark sapping from your enemy to buff yourself.

Maybe a 12.5% to-hit debuff for 10 seconds on a 14 second recharge that buffs your to-hit by 12.5% and damage by 37.5%. I think that's pretty close to what Follow Up does (minus the to-hit debuff of course)

I'd like to see Dark Pit replaced with Dark Obliteration as well.

    oh ok I see.

the news paper just appeared under contacts.

It's pretty solid. Not the best build and not the worst. You trade damage for survivability later, but that won't be until after level 38 and Granite Armor.

I dont count dark because I know they are going to butcher it like they did psi.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only way it will get butchered is if they decide to do a secondary too. You're probably right on losing the heal, but that's about all that's glaringly obvious. Dark Pit might go away so you can't use it with TT for a de-facto (minion level) hold. I REALLY hope they don't pull TT because it's pretty much a set-defining power.
  23. You should now have what looks like the headline of a newspaper in your contact list. Click on it and it will give you a choice of 3 missions. Run 3 of those (which ones don't matter) and you'll be told to go see Drea again, who will give you a mission. Complete that mission and you'll get a temporary travel power and when you return to Drea you will get another contact. I like Bocor personally.
