I agree with the notion that certain missions should have static doors. "Defeat Frostfire" being a good example. Others could include Doc Vahz's lair and Atta's cave. Add some sort of exterior graphics to the building (like Frostfire's building having snow on it that never melted from winter because the building is so cold, or Atta's cave having a couple Supa Trolls standing guard outside)
Also, Lou's garage. It's a unique map, it'd be cool if you got the mission and were sent to a building with a sign on it that said "Lou's Garage" -
How about /Marco?
Type /Marco and you will see a chat bubble appearing from the enemy's location saying "Polo!" -
Well, the term "instigater" implies intentionally being rude or hostile.
Granted, in written form it is often impossible to tell if someone is being rude intentionally or if it just came out that way.
I was just remarking on the fact that I see a LOT of OPs fly off the handle over responses that I didn't find to be particularly rude. They just didn't like being disagreed with.
Funnily enough, a lot of times it's the same people in multiple threads going off like that, which says to me they just can't handle criticism.
Then there's the OPs that are rude and combative within the OP itself. Those particular ones bring every bit of abuse they get on themselves. You know the ones I mean: The ones that will flat out tell you you're an idiot if you don't think the idea is the best thing ever said.
Usually, the more combative they are in the post....the worse the idea is, go figure.
EDIT: See? It DOES happen! MunkiLord and I are having a civilized disagreement. Neither of us feels any need to insult the other in making our point, which is something I wish more forum posters could do. -
Good idea and bad idea at the same time.
Good idea: I like the idea of enemies not doing the exact same thing every time I fight them.
Bad idea: Smarter AI would make some tasks in the game, like the ITF for example, insanely difficult to downright impossible. Romans are tough as it is, they outnumber the team hundreds to one. Can you imagine if they had the same toughness and number advantage and were smart on top of it?
AI targeting support toons: This would SUCK. Seriously. The second a group was agroed they would mass fire on the closest support character to them. A tank would be absolutely REQUIRED to run any kind of mission at all, otherwise your support toons would have about a 3 second life-span once a spawn was aggroed. A dead support toon is no use to anyone. A scrapper would be incapable of keeping them alive because they don't have a high enough threat level to keep enemy attention on them. Defenders would fare the worst in this, as they have much less ability to keep themselves alive than controllers do, and controllers would only be safe once every few minutes when their AoE hold is up. An AoE immobilize does nothing whatsoever to prevent a spawn from attacking.
I'm not against the idea of smarter AI for enemies. I just think it would have to be VERY carefully done in order to not make the game difficult to the point of frustration.
Also: A lot of the things you suggest in the OP, while they WOULD be cool, are simply impossible with the current game engine.
I'm just guessing here, but after 5+ years, if those things were possible, we'd have seen at least SOME of them by now, don't ya think? -
Quote:It is. But from looking at it, it seems like the animation is the exact same length. So you're saying that the alternative to Eagle's Claw is not the same animation as Stun?
I think Vanden meant "They're not sped up" rather than "They're not the same animation" -
And actually, what I said earlier and what Mandu said were BOTH true.
You'd have OPs being jackholes because someone DARED criticize their idea.
Then you'd have responders being jackholes in the belief that the idea would be implemented if they didn't raise as big of a stink as possible about it.
It went both ways....and still does, but not NEARLY as bad or hostile. -
Quote:Yeah, that's probably asking too much. While we're wishing, an Icon or WW rep in base would be nice too. Or is that hoping too much?
I saw a suggestion a while back where someone wanted to be able to do EVERYTHING without ever leaving their base.
Gameplay issues aside, that would be ironic: Someone who never leaves their house, spending all day playing a video game......in which they never leave their base. -
Yes to seeing information without logging in.
No to being able to transfer without logging in.
Also: what Zekiran said. Just because you know how ONE system works doesn't mean you know how THEIR system works. -
The devs don't want us to transfer influence/infamy between characters. If they did, we'd have the ability already. If they change their minds, they will implement something. I don't anticipate them changing their minds though.
I'd actually be okay with storing recipes and enhancements in Vault Reserve, provided it works the same way....only the character that put it in can take it out. Would make it easier to hang on to stuff that you have no immediate use for, but is valuable enough to not want to sell.
I doubt we'll ever get an account wide storage/mail system. Compared to other MMOs it is ridiculously easy to earn things in CoH, and the devs seem to prefer that each character make their own way in the game rather than having one level 50 fire/kin sugar daddy funding 11 lower characters.
It's still not that hard to transfer things as long as you have someone you can trust to help you with it. And if you've played this long and haven't met ONE trustworthy person yet....I don't know what to tell you. -
Quote:This.Sure.
And at the same time, we should figure some way of informing the players to actually use the LFT flags.
It's actually a good idea to have an AE tag in there.
The problem with it is: The people who generally spend a lot of time looking for AE teams will most likely never use it.
Next time you're in Atlas Park and see a bunch of people saying variations on "Looking for AE team", check the search window and see how many of them have anything set at all. I'd be willing to bet 99% have nothing set on there.
It's the same reason putting your LFT flag up usually doesn't do any good....most people either don't know it's there, or ignore it completely.
With that flaw pointed out, it's actually a pretty good idea. -
Mandu and Memphis_Bill both have some good points.
Far more often than not, when you see a suggestion thread degenerate into a flame war, it is the original poster who initiated it, because they took ANY negative response to their idea as a personal attack.
Usually goes kinda like this:
OP: I have this idea (goes into what their idea is)
Response 1: I don't like that idea because: (explains why they don't like it)
Response 2: I think this is a bad idea: (explains why they think it's a bad idea)
OP: What?! That's the best idea ever! You are both idiots for not agreeing with me!
(continues with their rant against the 2 people who have responded, insulting them repeatedly)
And when one of the responders posts again to defend themself the flame war begins.
Very seldom do I see S&I flame wars begin any other way. So, next time you see a flame war in an S&I thread, scroll back to see who started slinging insults...I bet 9 times out of 10 it was the original poster who started it. -
Both of my 50 scrappers are still my favorite toons to play. Claws (my main and namesake) is in semi-retirement simply because there is nothing left for him to do, when Going Rogue comes out he will come out of retirement to run all the new content, on both sides.
Chris Dawnslayer, my BS/DA has a new lease on life since I softcapped him, he's become my favorite character to play by far, and the only character I've ever built to pull off a RWZ Challenge (1st try after softcapping)
The only 50 I've fallen out of love with is my fire/fire blaster. He's only even level 50 because I got tired of looking at him sitting at 48 on my character select screen. He is almost never played anymore.
My 50 Sonic/Devices is another story. He's my PvP toon (on the very rare occasions when I'm in the mood for it) and will be soloing AVs as soon as I feel like finishing his build (the BS/DA is taking up all my time and money currently)
My Rad/Sonic will be 50 soon, he's sitting at 49 1/2 and just needs a TF to hit 50 pretty much.
There have been a number of scrappers that have come and gone, but if I get them to 50 I'm with em for the long haul. I only have 4 50s at the moment (soon to be 5) so my play time gets split fairly evenly. -
Quote:I believe it USED to be true though. I remember a debate on that very subject a while back. This is incorrect, the -res from Sonic Attacks stacks from the same powers. Given a Sonic/Sonic Defender, for example, the only power with -res that won't stack with itself is Sonic Siphon (since it's impossible for Disruption Field to stack with itself since it's a toggle).

Leveling build is simple.
At level 2 take Slice instead of Death Shroud. Take Death Shroud at 22 or 24. Rearrange to take Stamina by 20 and you're set. I also didn't have Cloak of Darkness, Tough, or Weave on my leveling build, because I couldn't handle the end cost. Those came after a respec after I got the end consumption under control.
"Cheap" is a relative term I say it because you don't need it all at once for it to be playable. It's a build you can put together a little bit at a time, I worked on it for the better part of two months to get it where it is. Dark Armor doesn't need to be softcapped to be playable. I got lucky and sold a purple drop to get most of the money for this build. Random rolls with merits were also kind to me, and I won a couple costume contests. The LotG is completely optional, the build doesn't need it to work. The only really important IO to the build is the Theft of Essence Chance for +End in Dark Regeneration, it softens the impact of that huge endurance cost. If you run all the TFs as you get in level range you should end up with enough Merits to get one of the big ticket items, or you can random roll and hope to get one or more of them, or something worth enough to sell.
If you're patient and buy the recipe instead of the crafted IO, you can get the majority of the IOs in the build for a reasonable price. I also only say cheap in comparison to some of the high performance builds out there, there's no purples in it at all, and only 4-5 expensive IOs. So, it's maybe a 500 mil build, as opposed to 3-4 billion that some of them are. I got lucky and put it together for about 300.
I don't sit on a ton of cash either, I only recently broke 100 million at one time for the first time ever. Be patient with it and remember, you don't need to put it together all at once. -
If it fires it will give you endurance. It won't be your enemy's endurance though. 20% chance for 10 endurance every time you use the power. If you're DM/DA it would be better used in Dark Regeneration, but it will work fine in Siphon Life.

Quote:I'd like to see it alternate. If you use Brawl with no weapon drawn (or on a character that doesn't have a weapon) it alternates between a right punch and a left punch.Given that some of the alternative Martial Arts and Super Strength animations seem to be sped-up variants of older power, I don't see why not. And, yes, I would VERY much like to see the assault rifle butt replace Brawl for Assault Rifle.
Leave the left punch alone and set up an alternating system between a kick and a butt-strike for what would be a right punch.
(Hmm, butt-strike sounds like a completely different kind of attack altogether doesn't it?) -

Quote:A 70% buff to recharge speed isn't enough for you?!Also, Speed needs a mitigation/movement toggle/passive like all the other pools and the other travel pools could use a click buff of some nature.
Also, mitigation toggle = Whirlwind. Anything that enters melee range while it is active is knocked back. You can corner an enemy and they are constantly KBed, making them pretty much helpless.
Not that anyone takes it, but it does already have one.
I can't even think of a click buff that would be appropriate to any of the other pools. -
I like #1. Not keen on #2.
The problem with world conquering as opposed to world saving is simple.
When you save the world, nothing changes.
When you conquer it, EVERYTHING would change, and that can't be done in an MMO. It would lose it's impact if you conquer the world or take over the Rogue Isles.......and then zone out of the instance and it's business as usual.
The first idea would at least give the feeling that you're in the process of conquering the world. -
Quote:Well, we eventually will see Psychic Blast ported to corruptors. Can we get the Psi Blast set from Defenders proliferated to Corrs? Also, What are the odds that we can get a Poison Secondary ported from MM...Psi/Poison FTW?
Corruptors are also the only AT that might get poison aside from MMs, there are some balance issues to sort out, along with the fact that Posion's current tier 9 is only usable on henchmen, so it would require a re-code.
The answer both of those things is: "It will probably happen, but not anytime soon" -
Quote:I explained that already.Well, at least it was an explanation of why it was moved not just why "something had to be done"!
As you actually did point to stuff that happened on the US forum and expected me to know it and expected me to have read it, although you did know I wasn't on the US forum, it also seemed appropriate for me to point it out! It also gave me a reason to mention Volvo, SAAB and ABBA!
I guess I have to settle for:
1. Something had to be done, and they did something and for some reason it actually worked even if they didn't really do something serious.
2. This part of the forum apparently will stay here because for some reason it "works" (God knows why) even if it ihmo it basically sends the message "yeah, go ahead and suggest fun stuff, for fun, but it's just for fun and fills nu purpose whatsoever although we might, just might look at it even if it's just for fun, but hey... It's just for ...fun"...
Oh, well... Just for fun:
...I still think it's a bad idea to have it in the "For Fun" section!
In "For Fun!" the message it is sending is not intended for the people that are making the suggestions, it is intended for the people READING the suggestions.
Most of the flame wars were started because people thought that, with it being in "Development" any idea suggested was going to eventually happen. You see how bad ideas are received here now.
Now imagine getting the impression that any bad idea you saw was definitely going to happen, because it was listed in the Development section.
I'll cite an example: Server merger. Many people are very adamantly against this idea for many reasons. When S&I was in Development, people would see that, and since Development is where the devs announce coming changes, they would think "OMG THEY'RE GONNA MERGE THE SERVERS!" ......and that's when the flame war started.
(For the record, I'm not talking about merging the server lists, I'm talking about merging Pinnacle with Victory and Triumph, I'm not trying to start an argument about it, but it was the kind of suggestion that started the worst of the flame wars)
It wasn't just happening here and there, with occasional flare-ups. It was happening in every single thread.
So they moved it to the "For Fun!" section so people wouldn't see a controversial topic in "Development" and think that it was definitely going to happen.
Edit: We were pointing out that you didn't see the stuff that was going on, and seemed to have the idea that "It couldn't have been that bad". We were just trying to explain that, yes, it was that bad. -
The problem you encounter with ideas like this, is no matter what you do there will always be the ability to game or exploit something about it.
And people WILL game or exploit anything they can, there's no getting around it, it's human nature.
Some combinations would have to be nerfed into the GROUND to not be overpowered.
I cite as an example: Ranged Attack + Self Defense
Fire Blast/Super Reflexes anyone?
Yes, the Super Reflexes would be at 75% effectiveness. BUT....scrapper values are ALREADY at about 75% effectiveness compared to tankers, so that would change nothing.
A Fire blaster that is soft-capped to all positions, with mez protection and Quickness would be extremely overpowered if left at the values you suggest. Seldom hit, never mezzed, and recharging faster? There would be almost nothing in the game that is a credible threat to it. Especially seeing as you could 6 slot Devastation in ST blasts to gain reasonable levels of Psi defense, SR's only real hole, which is NOT plugged by melee sets, probably intentionally. The combination of Ranged and Self-Defense would require a HUGE nerf to avoid tank-magery.
There are other combinations that would be just as bad, but this one is the most glaringly obvious one.
"Has been tried and didn't work" is actually a very valid argument.
Power levels and capabilities would increase to the point that the devs would have to make the game more difficult to compensate. That would screw the players that chose badly and you would run into a situation where everyone is playing the same thing because the game is too hard to play with anything else.
Everyone playing the same thing = boring game
Also, it would be a complete revamp of how the game works. It would be a huge amount of work in order to do something that will likely become a headache in and of itself. Since they would have to revamp the entire game to do this, we would get ZERO new content for quite a while as they are working on it. That alone would start players looking for other games.
You can't reasonably expect players to NOT take advantage of any loopholes they found in something like this. Just look at what happened with AE, the devs designed it with one thing in mind, and players IMMEDIATELY started using it for almost the exact opposite of it's intention.
The general rule is: If the devs build it, the players will break it if they can. -
Can we go ahead and kill AE Farm THREADS?
-
In regards to the 50 billion estimate spent on buying that much prestige.
It's not uncommon anymore for a character to routinely have a billion influence or more. If the rival SG has several characters sitting on that much money it's feasible for them to grind part of that total, and spend influence on the rest.
I understand the suspicion of RMT being used to fund it, just pointing out that it IS possible to have that much influence across an entire SG without resorting to RMT. -
You could make almost anything plant themed if you think about it enough.
MA/Regen: You come back to life as a plant, which gives you regenerative ability, but it doesn't grant you any other abilities, forcing you to rely on skills learned before your death.
WP/DM tank with green tinted DM attacks. Same sort of idea as above, but you also have the ability to surround your fists with spores that have an effect on the vision center of the brain, reducing their accuracy as their vision dims. Midnight Grasp can be recolored and RPed as vines. Touch of Fear could be a naturally produced hallucinogen, causing unreasoning terror.
TA/Archery Defender: Your arrows are actually sticks produced from your own body. Various chemicals can be implanted into them for different effects. If you use the arcane bow you could RP that as actually being part of your arm.
Fire blaster: Your plant-like body produces a flammable chemical that requires an outside source to ignite.
Fire tank/brute/scrapper: You literally light yourself on fire, and due to your exceptional regeneration it never consumes your body. Alternately you could go with the flammable substance idea I mentioned for a fire blaster.
I could come up with a plant-like origin for just about any powerset, these are just some examples.
