I didn't mind it so much myself and thought it fit the theme as well, but some people on the team did groan when they saw it. I'm a big fan of "do what you want with your story" so I;d say leave it in, but you might not be a big fan so you may want to heed Zam's advice here.

The ability to recolor standard enemies will help with this. However, it would be best to level lock the arc so you can concentrate on a set group of enemies.
Seconded all that, except I wasn't so much fearing stacking debuffs from the Snowmen as I was just getting a bit tired of them; big maps make for "foe fatigue". Ever tried to clear that map on redside in the mission that gives you the Plague Carrier badge? Block after city block of groups of LongBow... Yeah, it's like that.

What defines a favorite author, really? Someone with a Dev's/Player's Choice win? I have neither but I could hardly be called "new"; I might qualify as "well known" though (if I am well known why don't I get more plays on my arcs?! /em frustrated).

I can't seem to find a good grip on this overall contest's definition, none of the ideas expressed seem to be sticking to the sides of my brain with a "yeah, that makes sense" flavor, it's all very slippery and I really have no opinion formed yet...

  4. All my combos are concept-based. For example, I have yet to roll a Bots/Arch MM (I'm sure I will someday) because I have not had any idea strike me to explain one.

What I normaly do is have some name drop into my lap ("'Sniper Cheese' - all yellow costume with black Dots option so he looks like Swiss cheese... AR/???... hm...") and work from there.

The funny thing about this method is I start reading up on the powersets after I've decided what I'm going to take and so far, I have not ONCE hit on the FotM uber-combos, I always seem to end up with the gimpier AT combos. But I do have fun playing anyways.

    I do, I do!

I was playing mine just this past Sunday on an AE team; due to the mission dropping a large number of allies, we kept agroing just about every group of foes on the large map (eight man teams makes for large groups of foes).

Guess which melee toon didn't die once (unlike the other melee types) and spent her time cleaning up the agro mess those lay-abouts left?

(note to people my stalker teams with to play AE arcs: j/k of course... uh, hello, why am I on your ignore list?)

As for the question about dying ATs, if anyone's like me I don't see it happening. I like many ATs, but stalkers always feel like a homecoming when I roll a new one; I'm sure there are defender fans, tanker fans, etc. out there as well.
  6. Seconded. I'm probably not going to have time to log on until Thursday (sad panda face), but when I do, I'll take a toon into the chalet area and just listen to the yodeling and smile... I have no idea why, but I love that mix of music, cows, blowing wind sound effects, etc.

I've been pondering that as well. I have a number of toons I sort of abandoned in the late 30s that would make good additions to any group. Trouble is, I've been having fun with my stalker in the MA SG and would hate to just sideline her. :/

If I do move one over, it'll probably be a toon that solos pretty well such as my Bots/Storm MM.
  8. I stopped using it a long time ago. Anytime I have salvage I either use it or sell it. When the time comes that I need it I can always buy it later. This way I have one less thing to worry about and waste time on by running back and forth, "did I have one of those? Oh, thought I did, back to the market."
  9. Does anyone know if the Snakes level range problem has been fixed yet or not?

That's one of the reasons I prefer the "8 soloists who just happen to be on the same map" feel of redside teams.
This here for me, I can't think I've ever heard one complaint redside. And when I'm playing melee types, I don't mind the second or two it takes me to chase down a knockbacked target, that keeps things fun and fast=paced.

This will probably sound flamey, but that's not my intention:

    gift is not a verb.

If it filled some niche usage, I could understand the language drift, but the word "give" (or in this case, "pay") fits much better.

Please excuse my grammar Nazi-ing ways.... #u.u#

Ha. Truthfully, when the mood strikes me or I'm running a 360 degree camera orbit around a a new costume to make sure it looks just right.

As for the female walk / streetwalker debate, I suppose that's just another thing best judged by the beholder. Some would look at this image and claim a point on the scoreboard:

I see athleticism, poise and creativity. When using this screenshot as my desktop wallpaper, I see a comic book cover.
And I'd pay a dollar to watch that toon walk - really nice toon design there.

So I ask you, what defines a "new author"? Less than 50 plays? Less than 100 plays? Only 1 published arc? Only arcs published within the last 3 months? Someone who doesn't post to this forum?
That's a good question. Going by the number of arcs published only would fail to cull people who did one back when AE was new and shiny, then decided they didn't care for it and never bothered again (or left when the devs nerfed rewards :P). I think you'd have to use some rule of thumb like "all of this person's arcs are less than four moths old" or something like that.
  14. For my nomination of best character, I decided to go with a less-than-serious one, so I present to you...

Fritz, Your AE Representative from my arc A.E.'s Premium Quality Mission: "guaranteed qualityyyLOADING ERROR 0.000459 Arc ID#: 101165

Behold him in all his glory!

His bio reads "Hello and welcome to the A.E.'s Premium Quality Mission Content sales floor! My name is Fritz and I'll be your A.E. representative for today, how may I help you?" He's the contact for the story arc and shows up in the last mission as a hostage who needs rescuing as well.

He's not as battle-hardened of course as a real hero or villain... here he is, overcome by fear, short-circuiting one of my robots. A.E. was nice enough to pick up the repair bill on that for me.

"Can I please go now?" Poor guy just wasn't cut out for this kind of life I guess...

I was just going to search that one out. Here, I'll raise you this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eo0O...eature=related

(this was pretty much the first character I thought of when I saw the film of the dual pistols power set)
  16. If I pre-buy mine at PetSmart, will I get the line-of-baby-ducks-following-you-everywhere emote?

    emphasis mine
I hear some folk love AE arcs like that, not shun them. (I'm hoping so anyways - the mission I'm currently working on will have an AV. o_o; )
  18. I scanned through (quickly, admittedly) and didn't see this mentioned, apologies if it already has been:

I'd like to be able to set a 'default emote' for all the AI-placed critters in each mission.

When I choose a group of customs (or pre-existing) foes, I wish to be able to then choose an emote that all the AI-spawned ones do, instead of the generic 'palm-punch'. Maybe most of my foes need to be standing around reading newspapers for example.

Can anyone comment on this one? I had to leave before we could finish it, all those big maps... I'm wondering how it came out.
  20. Take the time to do some marketing while you're away though! Drop some lowball bids, then come back a week or two later and see if you got lucky.

    Enjoy the break!
  21. Yeah, something with how they sort arcs in the MA screen needs to be addressed.

When I go in to solo through some stuff, I sit and think about what I (might) want and then start searching with keywords or those 'genre buttons':

"I wonder what people have done that will fit into the catagory 'romance'?"

"Wonder if anyone's done an arc with William Burroughs references?" (I did find one btw)

and so on. If I just go "wonder what's popular and getting good ratings?" or just stare dumbly at what's thrown at me when I first open the window then I'll never see 98% of the stuff that players have made.

Four stars might be considered damning by faint praise or not, I'm not sure; my three arcs all have four-star ratings and when I don't bother to heavily push them on the forums I rarely (at best) get any plays whatsoever; partly due I'm sure to the lowered player population in the MA these days as well.

I think they have been talking of bringing that back though. If they did, the demand for such a thing might go up.

I might even consider messing with a base if we could make a 'personal base', meaning something like an apartment that wasn't so time consuming on the "You must pay the rent!" thing. Some weeks I barely get the time to log on and I'd hate to have to run around like a crazed chicken just to pay the rent for a small one bedroom, you know?

Anyways - if they did that, then I bet a lot of people would buy it.

I made one of those sort of as a trolling toon; all her powers were bright pink. But on the second costume slot I made them all just red and every slot after that I've avoided bright/ugly combos. But none of her costumes are catgirl-esque; even I have some pride.

Never messed around with bases, so no. I understand some people love doing that and I've seen some pretty nice ones too, but it's just not my deal.
