This was my feeling about it as well. Most of the new mechanics being added to game for incarnate stuff and this new tree for vet rewards just make my eyes glaze over with a thick film of "this is boring" when I try to read how they work.
-
I can't speak for everyone, but when I use merits to get things, I'm doing it because I wanted them for myself, mineminemine! Maybe more people are doing that instead of putting them up for sale? Course, with prices rising, this too will probably even out.

Quote:I'd say the same thing about my sloppily-built-and-IOed stalker, who also ended up soloing Lady Crey when my friend died (he forgot his toggles, then sat there watching as I whittled her down). I barely survived both of them and it took awhile to defeat them, but it felt pretty epic.Going solo vs Hro'Dtohz on my Invul/Enrg tank for the first time was awesome.

Quote:I have two level 50s that I rarely if ever play; loved them back in the day, just bored with 'em now. Mainly they test AE missions I'm writing. How many 50 (+) levels do you have and how many have all tier 3s or tier 4s in every slot.
Haven't done a single incarnate-related thing yet.
Maybe when I get another 50 I might. -
You can make a thread about it here on the forums - give some detail about your arc including targeted levels, foes, general story teaser, etc. Make sure to listen to any feedback and consider making changes if it's good feedback. You can enter it when some people call for arcs for contests, such as here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=248915
Make a point to participate in whatever discussions you have something to add to here on the MA forums; having something about your arcs in your sig helps. It also helps to participate in other AE-related things such as this:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=265388
Another thing you can do is start a thread offering to trade plays and reviews with other players.
Yeah, it ain't easy. -

Quote:People love to grind, just look at the new 50 content!I'm not asking what it is, I do not want to know.
I'm just wondering if there's a new one out, or what? I haven't seen this many people on Virtue crying for AE groups and PLing since the Incarnate system first was announced and the monkey sploit was active so people were shooting to 50 in a hurry to take part in that. (Haha, I say unto them! You got to 50 to just grind THAT instead of AE! Haha!)They need to PL to 50 so they can grind it sooner as well. I think as time goes on, we'll see more PL-rushing-to-50, the point isn't so much the journey any more to some players.

I have plans for arcs that I do want to get done (at least two, for the time being) but since I only have one empty slot left, it's hard to say which will or won't.
I have two arcs in solid stages of execution that were both abandoned, one nearly complete in fact. That one's a pastiche of 50s sci-fi movies that also ended up veering into Lovecraft-ish territory. I have it all set-up, mechanics and custom-foe wise, but had some problems fitting in the text I wanted. I also decided that with a limited number of slots, the idea wasn't worth one. -
-
I saw that as a grim smile of admiration for one's foe, "Well played, evil wizard... well played."

Quote:This reminded me of a time I was testing an arc in AE. I found that when the Shamans go for a swim, their loincloth thingies disappear.* Inclusion of cape physics on every piece of loose and/or hanging clothing seriously re-considered when playing through Banished Pantheon story arcs.
I laughed more than I should have, I would so pay for that! -

Quote:Bah, don't sugar-coat things, expect it to be long and tedious every time you make a new mission!Expect your first attempt to be long and tedious while you learn the interface and what can and can't be done in a mission grouping though.
As with anything else 'worth doing' in life though, so, so worth it. -
The first one was ok I guess - it had some points I liked, to be sure - but somehow it just feels wrong to me to make stories about a very, very smart man revolve around lots of explosions.
Then again I tend to be lukewarm at best on a lot of things. -
Quote:I'll second this. The farms are crazy in AE, people talk about them like mad on these boards and nothing ever seems to get done about... them...I really wish the devs would finally make a stance on the rampant farm maps. Either their okay and give writers and farmers the proper tools to better separate ourselves or they aren't and should be removed. Granted, the fact that the current filter glitch is still prevalent it almost seems like they have made a stance.
Wait a second!
Maybe the devs have taken a stand! -
The more I mess around with IOs, the more I think those determine what plays best. Except with Peacebringers, or so I'm told.

Praetoria doesn't have an AE building, so you have to wait until you're out of there. Once out, you don't have to be any 'bigger', no. Any toon at any level can make an arc as long as they can get into an AE building.

I've been taking travel powers less now that we have Beast/Ninja run, inherent Fitness, etc. Just the other day I was leading a team with my MA/SR scrapper and using Ninja and the Steam, then switching to the GvE if it ran out before I wanted it to - and more than once I was actually the first at the door. Might be worth noting I took Air Sup for her just because it's usefull though.
If my toon's concept fits with having travel power X then I take it; if not, then I just don't. There's no "working hard" to not take one. -
-
At this point I'd just be happy to have the freedom again to not have to form the team myself if I want to team with any of my toons below 50.

Quote:I could see that being helpful, especially if it could be redside/blueside specific as well. You know, whenever I see those posts (of new or returning players, who we then direct towards global channels), I think that just maybe the devs should make a server-specific LFT channel.
Despite the idea that it could/would turn into a spamming mess... It may just be worth implementing.
If I were gonna toss some pie in the sky, I'd just hope they'd limit the number of possible global channels period and make them all dev-defined topics - fewer channels means more players talking in one place. Maybe they could come up with a set number of channels: "Task Force", "AE", "Villain", Mission Teams" for example, none of this checking the forums, checking the lists in-game to try and find out where people are actually talking or with channels having to split due to too much interest. Global channels should be bringing us together, not acting as another wall between us.
But I know this isn't a popular opinion and they won't take something away from us now that we have it. -
I think the very instanced nature of the maps and communication - meaning people using and a certain global channel and rarely using others - is going to be a BIG problem, as it's one I have to deal with a lot and I'm a vet. My anecdotal evidence (or perhaps evidence of confirmation bias?
) is that I see a lot of posts here on the forums that say things like:
"I'm on a trial account and this game seems dead, am I missing something?"
or
"I'm a returning player from three years ago and the game seems dead today (etc.)"
If they're one of the players who don't come to these forums, then they're likely to not find out about global channels at all. Players who only use the not-so-clear-itself player search box won't do so well if they play on a low-pop server or at off-hours.
I think if the devs are smart (and they may be), they really need to look at the way this game separates people and find ways around it.

Quote:Yes, really. They're not intended as full-out story arcs, just little stories. The fact that they feel like there's more behind them is already a step-up from a radio/newspaper mission, plus you can't beat the rewards after doing ten of them.Really? My experience is the opposite. Tip missions for me are like missions pulled at random out of an AE arc. Somewhere, I know, there's a complete story written about Silent Blade or whats-her-name, the cold chick, but I never get to see more than chance glimpses of it. And like most AE arcs, they story is focused on some uninteresting second-stringer whom I could not care less about. So I've never made any effort to follow up on them.
I'm glad someone likes them, but to me they're what we get now when the devs can't manage to put together a real story arc. -
Quote:It looks a lot like when an MM's summoned bots drop from the sky, but... more messy. Here's hoping this patch includes the new Turkey Assault set for Doms! Drumstick Bash, Basting Blast, Stuffing Burst - great powers all - and the best Tier 9 power of all time, Thanksgiving Turkey Drop! I hope we can customize the color of the helicopter that drops the turkeys.
