  1. Maybe Posi will help me celebrate my birthday by tossing us a few scraps of Going Rogue info today?

Different strokes for different folks, my friend. I've tried a good number of other MMOs on the market, and whether or not they were prettier, they just weren't as fun as City of Heroes was--and continues to be--for me.

There's nothing wrong with outgrowing a game after several years of playing it. But you also can't demand a game to change drastically so it fits how you want to play. *COUGH* Unless, of course, you're Jack Emmert. *COUGH COUGH!*
  3. ED would still kick in and limit your recharge effectiveness.

You might want to look into slotting Invention sets, though. You can use things like Luck of the Gambler +Recharge enhancements or groupings from one of the Purple sets to get a global recharge bonus, instead of per-power recharge bonuses. (Ideally, you'd throw a Recharge Reduction enhancement in the powers that aren't near the ED cap on top of your IO sets.)

Also, make friends with a Kinetics user. Speed Boost is a Granite's best friend!
  4. My "main" characters all know each other, as my Stalker, Evil Gulzow-Man, is effectively the selfish and self-hating parts of my Scrapper, Chad Gulzow-Man, brought to life. My Peacebringer, Chibi Gulzow-Man, is Chad's inner child made real, and I have a Brute, Rabid Gulzow-Man, that's embodiment of Chad's mindless rage. (In the original story, there were dozens of short-lived minor personality traits brought to life, but all but those listed above were hunted and killed for fun by Rabid.)

The rest of my characters know of each other, since they're mostly in the same SG or VG, but they don't usually work together. Most of them have personality quirks that get on each other's nerves, anyway.

    Teleport Badges?

The beacon badges are unlocked for your Super Group when you touch every Exploration badge location in the zone. Just getting a single Exploration badge will not unlock the teleport beacon for any zone (other than Pocket D).

Additionally, you must be in a Super Group and must be in Super Group Mode, otherwise the Exploration badges you collect won't count. They can be revisited in Super Group Mode if you were out of it the first time around; even though you won't see a notification, as long as you touch near enough each badge location, you'll get the beacon eventually.

For the Atlas Park Beacon, you need to find the following badges:
    Undefeated, /loc 633, 85, -2324
    Silent Sentinel, /loc -608, 70, -1890
    Hero Corps Insider, /loc 284, 16, -884
    Patriot, /loc 161, -768, -674
    Top Dog, /loc 134, 314, -341
    Freedom, /loc 129, 122, -641

  6. Additionally, each costume recipe can only be crafted once per character. And indeed, there is no reason to craft it again, because crafting it once allows you to use it on every one of your costumes for that character as you see fit.

However, if you create a second character, you'll need to craft the recipe again. As was stated in the posts above, you require a copy of the Tech Wings recipe in that character's recipe inventory and the following three pieces of salvage: 1 Kinetic Weapon, 1 Temporal Analyzer, and 1 Ceramic Armor Plate (all available by defeating level 40-50 technology-based enemies). You will also need 5000 inf to pay for crafting. Once you've gathered all of these, you can take them to a university or abandoned laboratory* (or a craft-friendly Super Group base) to unlock the costume piece on your character.

Technically anything up through June could be phrased as "early 2010."

I think most of us assume that it means that closed beta will begin at some point during Q1, since they're aiming for a Q2 release... but I agree that the phrasing was--probably intentionally--vague.
  8. Yes, you may pick a completely different Patron Pool for each of your alternate builds.

(Little bit of useless trivia: until the Dual Builds feature was added in Issue 13, players weren't even allowed to respec into a different Patron Pool--whichever one you chose to start was all you got. The addition of a 5th power choice in each of those pools began at the same time, and was finally finished for all Patron and Ancillary Pools in Issue 16.)

I mean that everyone I personally know has not yet had a problem being awarded a Vet Badge/Reward at the appropriate time, and further deponent saith not.
It's happened to me for the last two Vet badges.

However, it was quickly corrected both times by submitting a petition to customer service.

I think that my issues might stem from the fact that I've purchased every single version of the game and applied them all to the same account... since I didn't pay via credit card due to the included time, at first glance it looks like I didn't pay for a month here and there.

Well, they definitely aren't raising the level cap (nor should they). BUT, there is definitely going to be a system to "power-up" level 50 characters who don't switch sides, which they haven't given any information about other than the fact that it exists. Those who switch sides can still partake in the new system, but it'll take them longer to earn the rewards.

So far, the only rumors which hold any weight on this system (if the old marketting survey is to be believed) is that they're adding "global enhancement slots," which boost the stats of your character across the board instead of per power.

    Alienware laptop

I work for a company that used to buy "high-end" laptops from Alienware for video processing. The software and hardware requirements that we need for the work we do are pretty much identical to those of gaming machines.

I have to admit, the Alienware units look really nice... but my experience is that they're pretty wrappers around sub-par machines.

Over half the laptops we ordered had some issue or another, though most of the time it was some minor issue with the case being manufactured improperly. One time, we received a unit that had a bad CMOS battery, of all things (a small battery about the size of a quarter that helps your system keep the internal clock operating even when powered off and allows your motherboard to store your BIOS settings), and of course they use a proprietary connector for it so you can't just buy one at any computer part store. It took them two months to ship us the replacement battery.

Then we had some issues with them cancelling orders without warning and not refunding our money for several weeks.

Basically, the systems are nothing special, especially given the price, and their customer service is awful.

We have since switched to Dell to get high-end business laptops. The units are sturdier, have better specs, and are about $300 cheaper than the Alienware laptops we were using. We have yet to have a single problem with any of the Dells we've purchased, and the sales people we've dealt with have always been helpful.

(Note: Yes, I am completely aware that Dell actually owns Alienware now, but Alienware still operates autonomously--they manufacture their own machines and store parts separately from the Dell facilities.)

    -----

All that said, Flameshot has the right idea. If your friend wants a gaming machine, he/she really should look into getting a desktop instead of a laptop. They're about half the price and much easier to maintain if something does go wrong.
  12. This coming Monday morning at approximately 7:30 AM Eastern, my Stalker will earn his final Day Job badge (though I won't log in for at least another hour).

And then just after midnight, my Scrapper will earn his final Day Job badge as well. (Plus, it'll be my 30th birthday. It was totally a coincidence; I in no way planned for it to happen, but I'm not complaining! )
  13. Wait until you get Lightning Rod.

But yes, you're right. Chain Lightning is pretty sweet too.
  14. Huh. I think this sounds like a fantastic idea. Totally /agree, +1, etc.

I doubt they're willing to change up the system like this, since IOs have been around for what, nearly 3 years now? I really wish they'd thought to do this from the start, though... it's a much simpler, cleaner and simultaneously more robust way to handle both the invention system and the market.

But if they wanna mix things up, this is pretty much the way to do it.

"From" states the mesurement of time (mesurment of time being what you just described) not "between".

Between neither the start or end point are counted. Think of like a sandwitch... You got August(a slice of bread) September(a slice of cheese) October(more cheese) November(Bread). A sandwitch is just a bunch of ingrediants "between" 2 slices of bread but you don't count the bread as being "between" the bread.
Except that the bread isn't the entire month of August and November, but specific dates within those months... namely the 15th of each.

You're clinging to a semantic argument now to cover for the fact that you have nothing left of your original argument. Do everyone a favor and either drop it, or PM me to continue this discussion so as not to further derail the thread.

Alternately, check this article, especially point #4. That's what you're doing.

  19. In order to get to Cimerora, you must go to the university in Cap au Diable and speak with Ashley McKnight, the contact there. She'll give you a fairly short story arc, and once you've completed it, you'll gain access to the Midnighter Club.

Inside the Midnighter Club is a Pillar of Ice & Flame (Ouroboros crystal) that transports you to the ancient land of Cimerora.

Except they announced that beta for Going Rogue would be starting in early 2010 in October (several weeks before Nov 15th). While it's understandable that you may have missed this announcement, you no longer have a leg to stand on in this argument.

    Quote:
Sure they get their beta testers either way but if someone wanted to get into Beta early and they didn't qualify for anything else all they had to do was start an account on August 15 and only pay for that month (Till November 15) and then they're in.
August -> September -> October -> November. Three months between August 15th and November 15th. I'm not even going to bother quoting your later statement about how "the loyalty program should reward 3+ months of subscription instead of one," because it did.
  21. You can bind one key to activate all your armor toggles.

    /bind g "powexec_toggleon Evasion$$powexec_toggleon Focused Senses$$powexec_toggleon Focused Fighting"

Each time you hit the 'g' key, it will activate another toggle, starting on the right side of the bind and working your way left.

You can also use the right-to-left reading of keybinds and macros to do things like:
    /bind numpad1 "powexec_name Speed Boost$$teamselect 1"
which will target and Speed Boost the team leader.
  22. SS = Super Strength
    SD = Shield Defense
    FA = Fiery Aura

Edit: It wasn't made readily apparent, but the preferred Villain farming AT is the Brute. Personally, I'm a big fan of my Elec/Shield Brute for all his crazy AOE attacks.

    1gb RAM for $40

On a 32-bit operating system, the most you can hope to use at one time on your system is 3.25 GB of RAM (without finding some specific work-around hack).

If you had Win 7 64-bit, I'd say go for it, but as is you're not really going to gain any noticable benefit by adding that extra 1GB. Save your money.
  24. Straight from the Prima Official Game Guide from 2004:

    Quote:
The Faultline Trial is initiated by accessing the terminal in the dam at the far end of the zone from the entrance. To be able to participate in this trial, you must be at least Level 14 and you and your teammates must all be in the same Super Group. This trial is designed for twenty-five Level 19 Heroes or thirty-five Level 18 or fifty level 17 Heroes.

[Chad's Note: Back in the day, TFs and Trials didn't auto-exemp you. For a while, if you were above the level of the task in question, you simply couldn't do it with that character, and then for a much longer time, you could participate only if you were being exemplared by another character--if they crashed or quit, you would be automatically kicked. If you ever get the chance, thank the devs profusely for changing this.]

The trial room is vast -- and mostly water. Four pylons stand toward the front of the trial, connected by a pathway that zig-zags between each. A building stands on a narrow strip of land to one side of the feeder river at the far end of the trial. This building and the four pylons are subject to attacks from villains. Each structure has a set amount of hit points; at 0, they begin to smoke, and are considered "destroyed."

Waves of minions and lieutenants attack the pylons; a boss-level villain lies in wait at the far building. Depending on the size of the Super Group, the attacks will progress from one pylon to another -- until eventually the building is targeted -- or the attacks will occur simultaneously, so that the group has to spread itself thinly in order to defend each location.

You must successfully defend 3 of the 5 structures (that is, prevent them from being "destroyed") for 45 minutes.

Defeated Heroes appear at the entrance of the trial and can immediately join back in the fighting, without having to run back from the hospital.

The reward for this trial is a medal on your ID card, a large Experience Point bonus, and a special enhancement that modifies two or more powers/effects and is valid at +/- 5 levels instead of the normal 3. [Chad's Note: This guide predates the addition of badges to CoH by several months.]
After some bits about zone hunting tips...

    Quote:
For the tiral, go for a good mix of melee archetypes and don't focus on the size of the group as much because the villain spawn will match the group size based on a pre-determined balance... to a point. So, if you're a level 17 Hero, you need to plan on bringing 49 Level 17 friends because the trial will be spawning enough to deal with 50 of you. You can certainly bring less, but expect the fight to be a lot rougher. Load up on Inspirations and bring folks who can fight for long periods of time on low Endurance because 45 minutes is a long time to be constantly fighting. Don't burn Inspirations or Endurance on resurrecting people, both because there's no need to do so (as they respawn just down the hall) and more importantly if you resurrect someone (or yourself) in the midst of the fighting, you're very likely to be quickly defeated again and just add more debt. Click "OK," take the free Heal and Endurance recharge, and run down the hall to rejoin the fight.
I'm torn between whether or not I'd like to see this as maybe some sort of Ouroboros or raid-style event, but I think overall they made the right decision to not actually implement this trial in the game. 45 minutes of straight fighting, suggested for melee ATs, at a level with no ability to have Stamina or half your defensive powers... no thank you!
