Are you positive they weren't talking about a beta for a different game (such as Star Trek Online)?
-
Actually, I'm a little curious. I just started farming for the final 3 damage sustained badges via a vicious CoT beating, and despite the fact that my character has about +370 Max HP from Accolades and other set bonuses, the badge status bar seems to be adding about 1200 damage (roughly the damage value of each attack) for every strike. Now, it's not an exact number every time, but it's generally adding between 1200 and 1250 per hit for a strike that's doing 1220.31 damage...
Did they maybe stealth-fix the damage badge counter in i16 or later without a patch note?
Cuz I'm not gonna complain in the least if it's true.
Edit: Oh, frikken duh, I skipped right past this post...
Quote:There's my answer. Still not complaining, cuz it's a much better solution that subtracting your bonus HP from any damage sustained.I agree with this. My conclusion is that it's an ALL or NOTHING for badge credit. It seems that if the end result of an attack leaves you within your base hp range, then the entire hit will count, which follows the results you describe in your example. -

Where's that dude with the sig about the dollar bills not being in sequential order? -
Sorry man, you got troll'd. There's been absolutely no mention of such a thing (as you probably inferred by this point since no one has replied to your post in over 4 hours).

Quote:That's not what BABs' post says at all. It's talking about the visual effects (in the case of that post, the actual point when a Spines attack hits an enemy, gives the HIT! flash and the green toxic effect). It says absolutely nothing about the animation of the attacks.According to BaBs, you can either have alternate animations for a power OR you can have alternate weapons.
So if you want alternate animations for Broadsword, et. al, you would have to give up the ability to select your Broadsword and set its color.
But don't get me wrong, I'm not on the OP's side either. As has been stated, new animations for these sets are not "long overdue," simply because alternate animations were only introduced in the most recent issue. You can say they're "long overdue" when more sets start getting new animations in future issues.
I'm pretty sure that Katana got its "new" animations before Issue 1 was even released. According to Statesman (waaay back in the day), it was a labor of love from a single animator who practiced Kendo and couldn't stand the set having such atrociously Western-style fighting animations. Prior to this, the Katana powerset even had the same power names as the Broadsword set! -

Avatar images? Don't mind if I do!
You just keep that team rocking out, WW. -
Gotta give Zyphoid props for that last post. I admit that I've felt the same way while playing the game, thinking "Why the hell is every individual member of the Freedom Phalanx so much more powerful than my character?" While it's still pretty fun to wreak havoc on a group of minions, AV and Hero-class enemies always make me a little frustrated from a roleplaying standpoint.
And while I fully accept that most builds/players should never be able to solo one of the big bads (after all, this is an MMO), anything that juices up the characters I feel should be more powerful via a gameplay experience is a very welcome addition.
And for my characters I don't feel require a "power up," I can simply choose to not partake of the system with them. Like Zyphoid said...Quote:(The flip-side of that coin of course being, if you don't want the power, then don't do the content.)If you want the power, do the content.
It all boils down to what you want to do. -
To copy the tone of Rod's post:
Why would you want to leave Victory in the first place? We're awesome. -

Oooowwwwwwww...
(Edit: The point of this post is that the people mentioned are missing the point of the system. As with anything else in the game, it's optional. If you don't like it, ignore it, and play the game just like you always have. Your existing characters won't be any weaker for skipping it.) -
Quote:You have probably gotten "free" time from: box versions of the game, the 6 or 12 month loyalty bonus subscriptions, refer-a-friend promotions, etc. The total time paid field just means you were billed for 54 out of 67 months. (My account says roughly the same thing due to all my box upgrades.)does this make sense or is my ncsoft account wrong...
"total time paid" 4 years 6 month
"veteran reward time" 5 years 7 month
if i have paid for 67 month how can that be off by 13 month shouldnt it say 5 years 7 month also? I have petitioned but they said it was correct but it looks messed up to me lol.
Just hoping this doesnt screw up my entry to coh:gr beta
If you've got your 60+ month vet badges and/or your loyalty badge, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about come time for beta invites. -
I kind of recall that early last year there was a pretty large shipment of 1TB hard drives that had some sort of manufacturing defect. I know that for a while the desktop system supplier I go through at work had to jump through a few hoops to get drives from a "clean" shipment instead to fulfill my open orders.
The tech person you spoke with might be thinking of this temporary halt on terrabyte drives when he says they cause issues with Win 7. If so, we're supposedly well past that issue now.
Anyway... Like many others in the thread, I also have a 1TB drive installed in my Win 7 machine at home, and I've had no problems with it other than a power cord that came loose when I moved the system. -
Quote:That stuff's not really new. Gameplay-wise, it's very similar to a game like Marvel Ultimate Alliance (or its older incarnations, the X-Men Legends series). Instant activation/no recharge on powers, build up of energy to use special attacks, blocking... it's pretty much all there. Champions Online just happens to be the first superhero MMO to use that style of gameplay. As for the post of Arcanaville, wonderfull said
I really cant say CO is perfect, it has quite alot of flaws (and probably some due the lag i have), but they imho pushed the 'hero concept and its mechanics' to a higher level then CoH currently is. Active defense, active fighting, huge variaty in choice of powers.
Of course, the main difference people like to point out is that you aren't stuck with any one powerset choice... and while that sounds good to the player, as Arcanaville and others have already pointed out, it only widened the gap between "the best powers" and "everything else," with "anything melee" sobbing quietly in a corner with a wedgie and no lunch money.
Anyway, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance style of game play isn't really up my alley, and I felt the same way about Champs. I'm not saying you're wrong for enjoying it, but I am extremely confused as to why--if there's already a game out there with the mechanics you prefer--you're trying to say that this completely different game should "evolve" to copy a game that already exists. Why not just go play the other game instead? -
Happy belated birthday, Death! You'd better get you some more badges before I'm the first one on the server to get them all.

Nope, you don't have to buy any additional products or packages to use the Mission Architect. Just for subscribing to the game, you can publish up to 3 story arcs, each of which can be up to 100K in size and have up to five missions.
There are several enemy groups, maps, and costume pieces you can unlock for your arcs by playing published MA arcs and spending the reward tickets dropped within, but these don't (and can't) require purchase with actual money.
The only Mission Architect add-on you can actually purchase with real money is extra publishing slots, giving you the option to publish up to 8 arcs if you want to spend the cash. Alternately, if your arcs become very popular with other players or the developers, your arcs can become marked as "Hall of Fame" or "Developer's Choice," and you get that publishing slot back to post another arc as a reward.
There are several guides with tips and tricks to make your missions more fun and accessible to your fellow players in this section, so please read through them as you have time. If you have any questions afterwards, feel free to ask, and someone will assuredly be happy to answer. -
Quote:You mean like crafting IOs, building a Super Group base, writing your own missions in the AE building, roleplaying, etc?We need some other things to do besides use power X on target Y till defeated.
Yeah, they should definitely add in the ability for us to do all that stuff I just said above.
Oh, wait... -
Quote:The "free" month you get when you buy a box still counts towards Veteran Rewards. Somebody paid to get that box.Actually, when you buy a box, you get a month free, yes? Wouldn't that push out his actual turnover date to Jan 20th, since he cruised on a month free first before hitting his "paid" months?

I made a point of playing mostly solo with my first CoV character... a Katana/SR Stalker. If you don't try to play them like a Scrapper (aka, "kill everything in sight, pronto!") and don't mind playing slowly and methodically in combat, they're incredibly strong solo characters.
I've also had fantastic luck recently with my Elec/Shield Brute, once he was levelled up enough to get SOs. He is a damage fiend... just walk into a room and spam attacks at everyone who looks at you funny until they stop twitching. I also had a pretty decent experience with my Energy/Energy Aura Brute, and that was before the set got buffed last year.
(I had significantly less luck on my SS/Invuln Brute from the pre-IO days, though it's entirely possible that I built or slotted him poorly.)
I've personally found Masterminds to be even slower-going than my Stalker, but I'm not a huge fan of robots so haven't bothered with that primary before. I have played a Necro/Poison and Thugs/Poison into the high 20s... while they didn't die often, Poison does tend to be pretty heavy on endurance usage and is notably better on a team than solo. I'd certainly go with /Dark instead if you're interested in a fast solo experience, with either Thugs or Bots as the primary.
(Sidenote: I also have plans to make both a Demon/Dark and Demon/Thermal MM when Going Rogue launches.)
As far as Dominators and Corruptors go, I unfortunately cannot give any real input. I'm not a huge fan of ranged damage classes and have yet to level either class out of the teens. The reason I mention this is to say the following:
Everyone has their own play style, and every AT has their own strengths and weaknesses. The above classes fit my play style, so I'm comfortable with them. You might not like the slowness and cautiousness required to play most Stalker builds, or the fact that you'll almost never have endurance in combat when playing a /Poison MM. They work for me. So take everyone else's suggestions with a grain of salt and figure out what works for you. -
Quote:Well, A is definitely true. Since Veteran rewards are for time on a paid, full account, the trial time shouldn't count towards your Vet Reward total. But you started your paid account on Sept. 20, meaning you should have earned your 3 month reward on December 20.Now, there are two possible answers to this problem... Either
A) My Friends are wrong and the trial period doesn't count, in which case I will receive my 3rd month tomorrow on the anniversary of my purchase of the game.
Or
B) At some point my Vet Reward Counter froze...
Either way, I'd like an answer (and my trenchcoats!) please?
Thus, I have a feeling there might be a bit of an issue with B. You seem to have done pretty much the same stuff I have; namely, you added every single retail edition you could get your hands on in a very short time frame. I've had some issues with my last two Veteran Rewards (63 and 66 months) and had to send a petition for both before they were awarded, and I think adding so many retail versions might be what caused the snafu.
Submit a petition in-game letting them know (politely) that you should have been awarded the 3 month Vet badge on December 20. If you haven't gotten your badge or heard back from them by tomorrow morning, log into the support center on the PlayNC website and update your support ticket (rather than starting a new one) and let them know that you haven't received a reply yet. -
Technically, they haven't said that Praetoria only goes to 20... just that a character that starts in Praetoria has to leave to go to Paragon City or the Rogue Isles once they hit level 20.
I'm not saying you're wrong... I'm just saying we don't know one way or the other yet. -
It's Rikti-speak. The board admins have all been acting like Rikti for the last week or so.
In a nutshell, Arcanaville said:
"Hey Ocho, I'm not sure you're up for fighting. I recommend you retire so we don't have to hurt you." -
Whew, what a long but satisfying day.
Woke up this morning, logged in Evil G, got his last Day Job badge, then went to work (which unfortunately sucked today). Got home this evening, took the dog for a run, went to meet some friends for dinner and was treated to an awesome pirate-themed surprise birthday party! Then I came home, logged in on Chad, and got his last Day Job badge.
Full of "treasure map" cake, and no more Day Jobs! Wooooo!
