  1. If you saved your costumes to file, then they should still be accessible in C:\Program Files\CoH Beta\costumes (presuming that was your install directory).

Otherwise, yeah... the beta server gets wiped at the end of beta periods.

  3. In a similar vein, I know for a fact that using Fire Control's Smoke power with the Deflated Ego: Chance for Recovery Debuff proc will cause it to pull aggro...

(Thank goodness that was a cheap enhancement. I was more or less broke at the time I tried using it.)

  5. Ehhh. I definitely wouldn't be a supervillain. I'd consider myself a hero, but odds are more likely that I'd be a vigilante... though I wouldn't kill--even now, I go out of my way to avoid killing insects, and I'm obviously vastly stronger than them. Broken bones on a human, on the other hand, will mend while they're in jail.

I would absolutely use my powers, whatever they were, to make my own life easier. I doubt I'd steal things, but I could see myself going, "Hey, I just saved your life. Either give me $50 or buy me dinner."

Of course, I've got my own eccentricities that affect what life would be like if I were a superhero. I wouldn't wear a costume or attempt to hide my identity, because I want people to know who the dude saving them is, but I'd still avoid media attention, because I don't particularly want to be famous.
  6. I picked up a second account well after they started selling additional character slots, for a variety of reasons. It makes it a lot easier to dual-box, badge farm, show off the game to friends, etc.
  7. Write an in-game petition about it--that's the official channel for filing a bug report. The developers don't generally read this board.

My DP/Rad Corruptor is my highest-levelled ranged damage character. It's completely soloable and pretty fun to boot.

However, DP is a little weak on damage to make up for the added soft-control that's so abundant in the set, which means that it takes an extra hit or two to take out your targets compared to other ranged damage sets.

You'll note that most everyone here is recommending you play Fire as your primary with Dark or Rad as your secondary. The reasoning is that Fire does the most damage of all ranged sets (and has good AoE, for taking out multiple enemies at once) while simultaneously debuffing your enemies (making them do less damage, take more damage, and/or move and attack slower), ensuring that you'll mop up every group with minimal effort.

But really, it just boils down to what you want to do and your definition of fun. Do you want to mow through enemies with little effort? That can be fun, sure, but it's not my cup of tea personally... (I prefer to handicap myself a hair and thus have more active battles. To each his own, right?)

To be fair, I'm for it. I think it'd be a good concept-filling powerset, even though it wouldn't really bring anything new or exciting to the table. Some people just wanna build Blappers, even though they end up less effective than someone who takes a more mitigative secondary. It's a different play style which some people enjoy, and those people want something other than Energy Melee available for their Blapping fix.

We now return you back to your regularly scheduled flame war where everyone who points out contrary information to someone's opinions is either a troll or fanboi.
  11. I'd recommend that he set his desktop resolution to 1024x768 and see if he can log into the game then.

Once you're in the game, you can change your resolution (which takes effect the next time you start the game). Exit the game, change the desktop back to normal settings, and then see if he can log in again.

Nope. The store will probably be back up in a few hours, though. Isn't there scheduled maintenance right now to remove Praetorian access from players who don't own Going Rogue?

    ...

You do realize that if you were let go from your job, your company wouldn't be able to publically discuss it, either... right?

You could tell everybody in the world that you were layed off if you wanted to, but it's extremely immoral for a company to do the same in regards to their recent ex-employees.

You've never worked in IT before, have you? If you had, you'd quickly realize that giving someone an "accurate" estimate makes them get very angry with you when problems do occur.

If you think something will take two hours, you tell them it'll take 2-4 hours, in case something does go wrong.

Of course, that does nothing for the small crowd of people who think you suck because they want to use the service nooooow, even though you told them in advance that it'd be unavailable for the maintenance window...

Some do, some don't. It's not IT work is any different from any other industry in that regard.

You can't tell me you've never gone out to eat at a restaurant and had one server who had great customer service, only to come back at a later date and get a different server who was obviously only there for the paycheck.

Do any mission that involves time travel, or visit the Recluse's Victory PVP zone and get any exploration badge there.

Alternately, the easiest way is to bum a ride with someone else. Ever seen them put down the glowing orange thing that looks like this: <><>? Once you've hit level 25, you can use someone else's portal to go to the zone. From there, you can grab the exploration badge on the roof of the main building.

Once you do any of these things, you'll get your very own portal temp power that you can use any time you want (except in PVP zones).
  16. I'll try to make myself available on a Grav/Kin Controller tonight in case of any no-shows, but no promises.
  17. Have you submitted a support ticket in-game or through the NCSoft website?

Because these message boards are for players helping players, and there's not a lot we can do to fix a game bug.

But no, it's not just you. One question: do you access your chat bar by clicking on it, or by hitting a key? I seem to get this problem far more often when I click on the chat bar. I also get what appears to be a blank bar when I hit Backspace to reply to a tell, but if you hit the left arrow once, it scrolls back and shows you to whom the reply is being sent.
  18. On the off-chance that I'm back at my computer by 2:00 on Sunday, I'd be down with my Stalker as well...

But don't hold a spot for me. I am needed elsewhere on Sunday morning, and don't know exactly what time I'll be back.
  19. I got it by doing a Cap SF, then the rest by farming the Loa Bone mission that one of my lowbies was holding at -1/x8 No Bosses. I think I only had to run it 3 times, maybe 4.

    Spines/Thorns?

Yes, but as SinisterDirge said, the color change doesn't show up until you redraw them.

I have a friend whose concept is that the spines are colored glass, but only one color appears until she activates a non-spines power (like Energy Torrent or Laser Beam Eyes) and then redraws by using a different power.

The toxic poison effect you get when hitting your target is always yellowish green. That's what the devs meant by "either change the spines color or change the effects color, but not both."
  21. I think the next round of proliferation will have the following:

    Blasters
    Dark Blast
Martial Arts or Dark Manipulation (or nothing)

    Brutes
    Broadsword
    Regeneration

    Controllers
    (no primary this round)
    Traps

    Corruptors
    Psychic Blast
    Force Fields

    Defenders
    Thermal Radiation
    Fire Blast

    Dominators
    Illusion Control
    (no secondary this round)

    Masterminds
    (no primary this round)
Cold Domination or Sonic Resonance? (This is the only one I'm really unsure of.)

    Scrappers
    Energy Melee
    Energy Aura

    Stalkers
    Axe or Mace
    Invulnerability

    Tankers
Energy Aura (or else modified Super Reflexes; an all-defense Tank would either never get hit or get pounded into the dirt two seconds after the fight started)
    Broadsword
    -----

That's not to say that's exactly what I want to see, but it's what I expect. For instance, I'd really like to see Radiation Emission or Kinetics for a Mastermind, but it's just more likely that they'll get Cold and Sonic first. I am looking very forward to a future when I can make a Plant Control/Poison Controller, but I doubt that'll happen with this next round. I'll make due with my Energy Melee/Willpower Scrapper, though...

I think we can eventually expect a "Gun-Fu" Assault set for Dominators, that either combines Dual Pistols with Martial Arts or involves "pistol in one hand, sword in the other" attacks. I think we'll also eventually see a "Dark Control" set for Controllers and Dominators. But I don't think either of those will be coming along with the next round of proliferation, either.

    Edit:
Ninjutsu for Scrappers requires a replacement for both Hide (which is easy--Stealth) and Caltrops. Energy Aura can be done as a straight port. That's why I believe it'll happen first.

It is hard to judge your Z access without a means to know how far away your target actually is.. this can cause PBAOE attacks to miss.
All that comes from experience. And not a lot of experience, either... just a few minutes and you'll get the feeling for it. There are also still plenty of occassions where I'll be standing on the ground and misjudge my distance to a target due to a weird camera angle or good ol' fashioned not paying attention.

Flight is craftable, purchasable, gotten via mayham/storyarcs and via a day job. With it being so available (and cheap) why bother wasting two power choices on it?
Air Superiority is not a waste of a power for a melee character or Controller, and Hover is not a waste of a power for a ranged attacker.

    Quote:
The flight pool has 3 powers all dealing with flight and all of them unstackable with each other. Do people really need that much flight.. to get group fly you are going to be either hovering and using air sup or having two flight powers to travel around with. It does have a great melee attack but does that really offset the other three choices in the pool when you have sets like Super Jump which offer 4 powers all of which are useful.
Nobody's going to take Group Flight unless they've got an especially team-focused build, like an all-primary Defender, or maybe a Mastermind who wants to keep his/her minions close but still be able to fly around. It's slower than regular flight, and is almost always less useful than Flight + TP Friend... but there are still people out there who want to take it for concept reasons.

And just because I can't resist: loljumpkick! Also, Combat Jumping cannot stack with Super Jump, so it doesn't fare any better than Hover/Flight in that aspect.

    Quote:
Flight speeds scale rather then being static. It feels slow early on so you put slots into it but at 50 you need only swift and 1 SO/IO flight enhancer to cap the speed (not sure about swift) but I know with the buffs to flight over the years it used to cap at 3 SO's in flight and now caps at 1 SO.
They boosted the base flight speed recently, so it no longer feels that slow at the beginning... but they did leave the cap the same. I've heard that has to do with server replication issues (having to figure out your position with that much control in 3D space is way more difficult than figuring out a jump arc with a little bit of wiggle room for movement), but it's still a little depressing that it can't be made a little faster.

    Quote:
The best advantage of flight is that its the second safest travel power (invis is the safest :P) and is very useful to those with slow machines allowing them to travel around more easily.
Invis isn't a travel power... It also utterly fails under several circumstances (Rikti drones and others ignore all forms of stealth). And given a large, open area, it's easier to soar over your enemies than it is to sneak through them.

    Quote:
CJ and super jump end up being better picks because you have great manuverablity and a one of the best all around travel power to boot. Great speed, enough verticle movement for most areas, nice diverse pool overall a really good set.
In your opinion. Flight and Hover have much, much higher maneuverability.

    Quote:
Personally I like the hover/fly combination but if I was building a character to cap defenses I would go with CJ/weave over hover/weave just for the manuverablity on a mission maps.
Okay... now my head hurts. You spent the entire post bashing the Flight pool, but now you say you like it?

And it goes without saying that CJ+Weave is better for min/maxing than Hover+Weave for most characters. Maybe not for a Blaster, but for just about any other AT, definitely.
  23. QR --

Most of the builds you'll see on the message boards here are for either speed farming or PVP. There's no real reason to fly when you're farming, and flying is slower than SJ+SS in PVP.

That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with taking the flight pool (and as you and many others have pointed out, Air Superiority is a fantastic soft-control power)... It's just not the best pick when you're trying to squeeze every ounce of performance you can out of a character.

People who build their characters without focusing on min/maxing (i.e., just about everybody playing the game who isn't posting builds on these forums) will simply pick whichever travel power they want for their characters. Personally, I'm a huge fan of flight, so I've put it on at least half my characters.

That would be incorrect. Perhaps that's how it worked in the ORIGINAL Cathedral of Pain trial, from back around the time CoV launched, but the AVs in the CoP aren't the "target and smash" variety that you find in the Shard TFs.

The AVs in the current incarnation of the CoP have inpenetrable shields which can only be brought down by defeating all the summoned creatures in the chamber, and the creatures respawn from 3 different locations every 45 seconds, giving you a maximum 45 second window to attack the AV before his shield is restored. The AVs both have extremly high regeneration rates to boot, so if you don't clean out the spawns and get back to attacking in a few seconds, they're likely to recover back to full health.

The "broken" AV, the purple storm one, has a higher regen rate than the red one, and has crazy amounts of AoE debuffs that make all but the most hardcore groups unable to defeat him. (To be honest, I haven't heard of anybody actually doing it yet.)
  25. So, ignoring the last several posts...

How'd the second CoP raid go, Rox?
