At first, I was all like,
Then and I'm like, totally
So they're like, all, [ QUOTE ]
NCsoft NorCal will be focusing exclusively on the City of Heroes franchise and will be doubling, if not tripling, the size of the development team in the coming months.

I'm Ellen Feiss, and I'm excited.
(Pie to anyone who can catch the reference in that one!) -

I don't think I'll ever be able to attend any sort of get together in real life because I'd wouldn't be able to decide whether to go as BAB the dev or as my main character and be able to hang out with friends/SG mates.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have them install an old-fashioned phone booth outside and you can go as both! Just run in, close the door, immediately open it, and bam! - you're now someone you weren't just a moment ago.
Any pictures taken by any hidden cameras that will most certainly not be there will be for private uses only, so don't sweat it. -
I'm really loving this. You guys are doing great! I especially enjoyed the advice and horoscope sections - go figure, since they're the first two I read from a real newspaper. After the funnies, of course.
-
Just adding my own naming convention to this: Singular names work great, too! You can come up with one off the top of your head that sounds nice, or you could go to 20000-names.com and find them by meaning. For example, 'Cinder' might become 'Celosia', which is a Greek flower named for it's burnt color.
Examples of single names that I use:
Versana
Raura
Cecilia
Ithia
Aurana
Nahira
Celosia

Well, I'm working on a Villainous toon. For the most part, though, I generally work with an outfit first, and then once that is decided on, play with things like skin color, hair color/style, and outfit color.
Edit: So what you're looking at are essentially 'bases' that may or may not be 'filled' later depending on whether or not I use 'em. -
I'm not really going for anything in particular. Just taking ideas and running with them, then looking over the results to see if anything interesting came up.
-
I've been in a bit of a CoX slump lately, so I decided that, instead of taking a concept and trying to squeeze it into CoX character creator, I'd play with outfits and then do a concept based on the one that struck me as interesting.
I've come up with a few so far, and while I'm still adding more, I thought I'd toss the ones I've done just to see what people thought.
In no particular order:
One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six
Seven
The one on the right end is already being used, with alternate colors, on one of my mains. I threw that in there for a friend who hadn't seen it yet.
Edit: Woops, this was supposed to be in the CoH General forum. -
Doesn't look like we missed much. Just a near-naked Genna - which ya could go right to Atlas and see dozens of at any given time.
-
It's what keeps me making toons after they hit 50 - so, yes.
-
Soo.. how much do you charge?
Seriously. I will never look at my Mercs the same way again - and that's a good thing! -

Issue 10 will focus on a level range that you guys have been clamoring about for a while.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hooray!
[/ QUOTE ]
That'll be so nice! I'll probably be either the 35 - 45 range. No matter what level range it is, I'm sure it'll enrich the game.
Also, I can't WAIT for the veritable sh*tstorm of posts from ungrateful players and general wastes of life that scream at the top of their lungs "THIS CONTENT DOESN'T CATER DIRECTLY TO ME. IT'S WORTHLESS. I HATE THE DEVS AND THIS GAME. I'M GOING TO GO PLAY WOW. HERE IS ANOTHER $15. I STILL HATE YOU."
Those people fill me with warmth, glee and rainbows.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would be glad if that happens. That would be one Less idiot to deal with in the game.
On the plus side the next interview is with Sexy Jay. Wonder what his responses will be like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Angry Masses: Jay! There's little in I9, what have you been up to?!?!
Jay: Huh? What? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how Sexy I am. -
I don't really understand the advancement table. What are the four columns representing?
-
Actually, I'm not sure which is creepier:
That this guy made it to 50 with the name, or the uncanny resemblance. -
My guess is a change to the Spines animations, to try and encourage more people to use the set.
Edit: Our samurai friend again. Note the widow next to him. -

Although I'm still really looking forward to the STF, I question the decision to include an Oranbega map mission. Do we really need another CoT connection in a TF/SF?
(yes, I know I mentioned this in the other STF thread, but this being the "official" thread and all . . . )
[/ QUOTE ]
My guess is oddball datamining.
"Hm. The players aren't defeating very many CoT mobs. That must mean that we don't have enough CoT content for them to find!" -

When you still have an Atari 2600 and a Vectrex that still work....and most people won;t even know what a Vectrex is....
[/ QUOTE ]
I knew it not a single person that has read this thread since I posted even responded to this...why? the never heard of the Vectrex that's why.....
By the way I am old...I had most of the Transformers from the original series [I think I still do], I also had an Action Jackson doll [the GI JOE competition way back when]......I'm 46
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm only 23, but I've actually played a Vectrex. My grandfather owned one - and yanno, that thing is still pretty entertaining. -
Wow. I'd forgotten all about that leadership post I'd made. I s'pose I should go and revise that, now that I've had much more time in-game.

Yes, I'm still around...
NCSoft (the publisher) and Cryptic Studios (the developer) are still firmly behind City of Heroes. It isn't going anywhere. NCSoft continues to fund a fantastic live team with lots of great stuff to come.
Yes, Cryptic is working on other products. These are different games with different financial backers. We plan on supporting multiple games in the same way that other great developers do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this is what worries some people as well, though. (Myself included.) I don't think the fear is so much that City of Heroes/Villains is going to fade away into nothingness with the release of MUO as it is simply that the franchise isn't going to go any further from that point. -

[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I'm going to stand back and watch MUO for a while before I make any choices on it. I'm pretty wary of online games that have a big name attached to it. World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI are good examples.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm hopeful that Cryptic will give preferential beta access to CoH players. It seems likely, so perhaps we'll all get to see what its like in MUO Beta.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd certainly give it a try if so. Though, being a next-gen game, I may have to pass due to possible hardware requirements. -

When you're building on an already-existing universe, you really only have so much room to work with - because if you go too far out of bounds, you're going to irk the people that are there just because of that namesake. And that's usually a substantial number of people.
I like CoX so much because it's almost entirely fresh. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd feel rather odd fighting alongside popular comic-book characters online - or even as them. I don't know how they plan on doing MUO so far as character creation, storyline, and all that - but the name, Marvel Universe Online, implies something solidly based within Marvel, and so I'd like to see how much freedom/flexibility there is in the finished product on the players' part before I go leaping over anywhere.
That said, I don't think CoX is done yet. The devs have talked in the past about all these big changes coming up - storylines, Inventions, and whatnot - that give me the impression that CoX hasn't even reached it's design goal yet. The impression that we havn't even hit the height of the game yet (Unless you're one of the ED Naysayers who believe the game died when ED hit, I s'pose).
I could be wrong, of course, but that's what I'm hoping. If CoX fades away, it fades away, but you can bet this gal, at least, will be squeezing her subscription for every second of fun it's worth. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's political silliness for ya. Even general laziness, if you want to trace all the way back to the people taking up this cause, who are likely just too 'busy' to raise their own flesh and blood.
I saw Statesman in that video, and I was expecting a counterargument at first about the -good- video games can illustrate. Sure, I may have to beat up a whole city block of criminals to save those hostages, but I don't feel good about beating them up. I feel good that clear wrongs were without-a-doubt righted, and that innocent people are going to be sleeping soundly for at least another night. -

Did you know?
In the days of Issue two if you had teleport you could go beyond the war walls? One such hole existed ontop of the Brickstown Hospital and another on Monkey Island in Peregrine Island.
Hellions used to charge Atlas Plaza.
[/ QUOTE ]
I actually got to see such a hole in Faultline a month ago or so, and it allowed you to get into the area behind the dam, which is finally part of the zone as of I8 on the Test server. -
Not sure if this has been said or not already - though even if it has, it probably bears repeating.
Despite what you'll commonly hear, knockback is as much your friend as knockdown. Time an enemy spends on it's rear is time that particular enemy isn't attacking you - and should it be the only one around - time you can fire off an interruptable attack, such as a high-damage snipe, that you would normally have trouble with.
