Quote:Oh weird.. I was thinking it'd just be a matter of taking all the info that the game already stores and recoding it for the web.
It was the "taking all the info that the game stores" aspect that was causing the issues apparently. It was generating masses of Network traffic causing all sorts of internal networking issues. -
Quote:I wrote a guide to my times with an elec/earth/Primal dom here.
Elec is a very powerful primary in terms of soft control. However, the soft control it provides is less apparent than the control provided by Earth and Mind, but the abilities you provide are invaluable to a good team environment. Your chain confuse, if you can slot the purple Confuse proc, will easily confuse groups of bosses, making you great for picking out adds and taking out groups in Incarnate Trials. Why kill them all when they can kill themselves? The chain knockdown is easily converted into a very cheap, decent AOE with the Reactive damage proc. However, the problem with the set is the same problem you find with Earth: pseudopet controls. Your controls, such as your chain knockdowns, and your chain confuse, only gain an increased mag or beneficial self-proc on the first hit, because you are the source of that power. The next bit of code says it creates a pet from that point, invisible, intangible and untargetable that targets the next enemy in range*. These do not gain the benefits of domination, but makes offensive procs very powerful in them, as each bounce has a chance to proc each effect.
*I think this is how it works. Someone feel free to correct me.
This is pretty much nail on the head.
One addendum though, if you have it Power Boost will work down any chain where it's effect should work (eg on the Chain Confuse). This is because PB works by affecting your base modifiers for Mez.
PBed Synapic lasts for aaaaages. -
Quote:Yep, I think the "best" pairings for -Damage are more -Damage, then Regen, then Defense (soften the blow when the RNG hates you) and then Resist.Absolutely correct, I didn't mean to imply that it had the same scalar effect as -ToHit or even defense, just that the two in parallel are (at least in theory) nice to have as added mitigation. Not really sure I implied additive behavior, but it's good to have an accurate description of the mechanic since this seems to be serving as an impromtu group-think KM guide. Thanks.
On that subject, what is the stacking like on the -dmg component. IIRC the scrapper numbers are -5ish % on most of the st attacks. I assume they don't stack with themselves, just with other powers? If something lives long enough to stack qs/bb/sb/cs/burst -dmg, that should come to ~ 30ish% with scrapper numbers, or am I missing something?
I'm interested (mildly, reactive dmg still seems a better choice) in the -dmg component in one of the Interface powers as additive to this. Maybe not enough to be significant though.
Still another layer never hurts, but again I am thinking from /regen terms mostly at the moment, and -dmg seems to be a good idea. base debuff + void debuff + maybe the interface debuff might net some interesting results against things that to mad dmg in bursts.
That's not to say stacking -dam and Resist is bad, it just seems like -Dam could help Defense base sets out a smidgeon more.
The problem with Regen is that Burst damage is it's nemises and it might take a while to lay down all that -dam as well. Pity Scrappers don't get Darkest Night.
A Shield/KM/Soul tank with the Void Radial, Paralytic Radial and Rebirth Radial slots sounds like it'd be a bit of a monster though in terms of stacking lots of -damage on its defenses and being able to kick in a lot of Regen on itself.
Or an Ice/KM/Soul Tank would be even better at it. -
Quote:Erm, no it doesn't. It rolls once per person like any proc does. At least that's what it does for my Elec/NRG.A trick I found with Jolting Chain was to slot in Devastations' hold proc. It fires pretty often in the chain, and by the looks of it, when it goes off, everything in the chain gets hit with the proc."
Still pretty nice though.
As far as I know if the PROC effect is in the chain it will carry on, if it's not then it won't.
EG procs from End Mod sets will only work on the initial blast, but Ranged Damage and Knockdown should have a chance of proccing each time they hit someone. -
Quote:Origin doesn't affect character performance. Pick the one that floats your boat.
^This is my approach. I just pick the one which feels right for the character, even if technically it could be called 'wrong' if one wanted to really analyse the characters backstory. -
Quote:My opinion of FA hasn't changed a bit. Unless you've always got some buffer slamming you with DR and Def shields, FA's mitigation is pathetic outside of burn farms.
I tend to pick my primary to counter this. Hence the Fire Armour characters I've played have been Fire/Stone tank, Stone/Fire Brute and Broadsword/Fire scrapper.
I don't think I'd be able to play something like Fire/Fire very well at all. -

Quote:Nothing says "ninja" better than a rampaging crackling light source (I've been playing inFamous) slashing things to bits with metal claws/ElA goes great with Claws, and it's great on brutes. I recommend it, although I can't really figure out how you'd get a ninja out of that.
Claws/Elec is a hell of a lot of fun, but certainly isn't what I'd call a ninja. -

Quote:What Dechs said.
There is an option that was introduced for Dark Armor a few issues ago that lets you set your armor toggls to not fade or pulse. If you do that you won't turn into the fluffball of doom. The default character model for Cloak of Darkness is the same as Dark Servant, it actually replaces your character model like Kheldian shapeshifting and Granite Armor.
If you are set to "No Fade or Pulse" your character model will not change, and Cloak of Darkness will just appear to be another aura.
I don't think CoD changes your model, it just swamps you with a heavy aura as far as I know (the Warshade version does the same thing) and maybe applies some translucency.
Dark Servant does indeed used the same aura, just with nothing other than glowies eyes in it. -
Quote:Do damage auras or aoe attacks like quills break hide? Or can you jump in a crowd and fire off your first attack and then the damage auras would kick in? I thought I saw something about this but can't seem to find it and forgot how it actually worked. I was thinking of rolling a spines/dark stalker and wanted to know how those powers worked before I started working out the build.
Stalkers don't get either of the damage auras. They do get the two mez auras, which supress while you are hidden. -
I just realized how hideously powerful my Plant/Empath would be if I could buff myself. Why am I arguing against this?

Quote:FA is not in any way shape or form tougher than ElA. It just isn't. And Power Sink will do -80 End when slotted, not -40.Higher by 3% in S/L
Mob sap is pretty meaningless. 40% on minions/leut wont change much and it will not affect AVs on a meaningfull way. Also it would be CRAZY not to take Darkest Night if you consider tanking abilities.
Energize regen is far from meaningless but Healing Flames are indeed widely supperior.
Like I said FA isnt squisier, it is actually slighly tougher. Unless you consider high end content made of a LOT of Psy/Energy damage (Rikti/Praetorian) where Elec will be incredibly stronger.
FA is also incredibly more damage. Which is a consideration to take when you dont play a pure tanking AT.
And don't forget ElA has the Tier 9 for when the poop really hits the fan. 2 minutes of God mode (followed by messy death). Fire has Messy Death > Big boom ( possibly followed by another messy death).
FA does bring silly amounts of extra damage though. But if it had to be coupled with NRG Melee I think I'd go with the DM/Elec myself. Really though I'd be tempted to reroll both (Mace/FA sounds interesting and I know Claws/Elec and Dual Blades/Elec are both really enjoyable). -
I'll agree with one thing here, Dark Blast is one of the sets on the ever-growing list crying out for a bit of a rejig.
Pity our Powers team seem more focused on messing around with Leagues and super-overpowered-generic-well-powers instead. -
Quote:The "Ghost power thing" is one of your better pets. Certainly better than the zombie sacrificed to summon him.I've never really thought much of the Ghost power thing from Necro, so i've slotted mine with the Def and Res Aura IO's from both the Pet and RI Pet sets. So they've all got and extra 10% def/res, before any additional buffs.
Using it as a Uniques dumping ground only is a mistake IMO. I'd always recommend slotting it properly for Acc, Recharge and Dam and sticking the two RI uniques in there and slotting the two pets ones elsewhere. -
Quote:That's not how Empath buffs work. AB is pretty much wasted on Tanks and Fort is better on the high damage, low defense ATs. Blasters, Corruptors, Warshades (WSs do really well with AB on them) and Dominators tend to be better targets unless Mr Tank is actually struggling to survive (obviously sets come into it too, a Shield/SS tank is a good candidate compared to an AR/Dev blaster but a Fire/Fire Blaster gets the nod way ahead of a WP/Stone tank)I would rather have so called overpowered self buffing empaths that ignore the teammates than players who totally skip the ally buffs simply because they do not work solo. I just do not see it happening that way because the way the empathy buffs work, they do more for the tanks/scrappers/brutes/stalkers than they do for everyone else. So anyone choosing to buff themselves instead of their teammates would be an idiot anyways. So in either case it would not be good to team with them anyways.
For an Empath a self-targetted AB would be gold as it'd buff its own recharge time, the recharge time of the auras and allow them to overcome their own Nuke Crash (that nuke which is also being buffed by the various damage buffs they could have). -
Quote:Actually, with that amount of damage, recharge and recovery buffage and something like Sonic you probably are.Again thats just bull crap because even with all that survivability you are not going to be taking down any GMs or Avs without some kind of outside help so your point is null and void as I said. All the survivability in the world does not make something overpowered especially if it takes you a week to kill something.
Plus "taking down GMs and AVs" isn't the metric the game is balanced around, in any way shape or form anyway, it's how it'd affect the other 99.9% of the game (the bit where the rewards are) which is more important.
The main reason I'd be against "self buffing" is that it'd lead to a plethora of self-buffing Empaths power multiplying themselves and ignoring their team-mates.
I'd only like to see any form of self-buff be a non-stacking side effect of applying to buff to someone or something else. It's the only way this suggestion could be tweaked so as to be balanced that I can see. -
Quote:Not really, the game has always excelled at being team based from level 1 onwards.Kind of ironic for a game with a miniscule playerbase (relative to its competition) to be so heavily focused around grouping.
Getting onto casual PuG teams and running some missions together tends to be much, much easier than any other MMO I've played. -
Quote:This doesn't make much sense. Dr Aeons bubble is a toggle shield or self-buff, like the myriad of toggle shields we already have in the game. There's no "self targetting" involved, he just activates a power.I think the issue is that the devs are afraid of what it will turn the buffing ATs into. To me thats a load of bull. Practically every other MMO allows for self buffing of most buffs. I do not see it unbalancing defenders/controllers/corrupters/masterminds simply because they already do piss poor damage to begin with. Its like they are given a double penalty for being a buffer. You take a damage hit and you cant buff yourself. Of those ATs I mention masterminds at least get the benefit of the pet damage. Personally all this fear of overpoweredness needs to be thrown out considering what they have given us at the incarnate level. Its not going to hurt anything to let us buff ourselves even if its allowed at half strength. The VEATs are reason enough to see its possible to do a support AT and not be overpowered. Lastly its been stated by some that the reason we have no self buffing is because we have no self targetting but thats a load of bull too because npcs can bubble themselves and I am not talking about the personal bubble either. I have seen Dr. Aeon do this at one point. So if they can self buff that means they can self target therefore the whole arguement of that is null and void. The whole reason players cant self target is because they do not want us to self buff its not the other way around.
If the game was being designed now then yep, i'd agree with the idea of "let us target ourselves", but the no-self-targeting has been a feature of the Cryptic engine for years now and I'd imagine (like things like reflecting damage) it'd be near impossible to patch in now.
I'd be all for adding a secondary buff to yourself (not at full strength though) but I'm not sure how you'd get it to work solo. Fudge it in some way so that you could use an enemy/corpse to bounce it off perhaps, it wouldn't buff them, just provide a target for the power to fire off. Or some sort of pseudopet summon inherent power which is only there to use as a target dummy for the self-buff portion of the power. -
-
I'd be in agreement with Airhammer. Both are great.
I prefer Thugs myself because they're less clanky and bulky than the Bots. -
Quote:I'm glad, the Doctor versus Jack the Ripper, would be cliché as would Jack the Ripper is actually an alien/demon/timelord/Dalek in a top hat.
Of course it exists... -
Quote:Empathy.
Seriously, Empathy would become the most overpowered set in the game if you could buff yourself with it.
You could give yourself enough recharge for perma-hasten/perma-AB with very few set bonuses.
You could softcap to practically everything with self-Fortitude (which will give you around 23% defense to ALL types/positions by itself). Pair that with Defender Maneuvers numbers (7% to all) Hover (2-3% to all), and Weave (4-5% to all) (with a Res/Def in Tough) and you suddenly find that you only need a few set bonuses to be softcapped to everything you can possibly have defense to. I did the math before. If an Empathy defender could self buff, they would be capable of hitting 35-36% defense to everything, with no outside help.
Regeneration Aura will be permanent or nearly so, giving you levels of regeneration that will surpass a Willpower character in a large crowd. You could almost surpass a Regen running Instant Healing with permanent Regeneration aura.
Oh, and you can hit yourself with a rather large self heal every 4 seconds or less and have stackable mez protection.
Pair that with a secondary like Sonic and you have a tankmage in the making.
So, yeah, self buffing characters would cause a severe nerf to a number of powersets. Empathy would go from one of the weakest offensive defender primaries, to the strongest.
^This. It's pretty much why a team of Empaths (or even a pair of Empaths) can be ridiculous. It's like the poster child for Force Multiplier.
Having said that I've always thought that the Defender inherent should have been made into some sort of "feedback", whereby when you buff someone you'd get a non-stacking (ie only one of) minor version of the buff cast on yourself too (which actually is useless for the OP come to think of it)

Hang on. This is an actual, proper, sensible suggestion? Posted by Steelclaw? With no funny?

Quote:The Vahz are more Science based. All of this is from memory, so may be faulty:
Vahzilok, higher-level 5th Column/Council and lower-level Devouring Earth drop Mutant/Science DOs
Tsoo, lower-level 5th Column/Council and higher-level Devouring Earth drop Mutant/Magic DOs
Higher-level 5th Column/Council drop Mutant SOs
Edit: I'm assuming (almost) all members of the above groups follow the enhancements they drop, so if you want to use named characters that would be a guide.
The Devouring Earth technicallly are Science too, although the science part of the DE is based around the Hamidons original scientific experiments, you could say the DE creatures themselves fall into Mutant or even Natural categories. My own DE based character falls somewhere between the 3, she's the natural "output"/offspring of a mutated DE Spore tree thingy which only came about due to Hamidons scientific experiments which created the Will of the Earth virus.
Terra for example is probably a mutant/science origin AV.
The Tsoo are magic and natural based really. Not sure Mutant applies to them at all really.
