...As for the arena, you can fight anyone at any level, as they can be exemped down too the level range your in. Unfortunatly, there's not much call for low level arena PvP, so you may want to wait it out when you get too a higher level.

    Hope this helps, Jum.

If you're on Defiant theres this suggestion here for a bit of Level 21 Arena action.

    What about:

All fights at Level 21, any levels can enter, no AT limit, heroes and villains allowed in the same team?

Would make for some interesting tactics.

I'm so signing up for this, Quant is just level 22 and it'd be interesting to see how he plays as I was half thinking PvP when I picked the sets. Alternatively I've a 20-something Kin defender, kin corrupter and necro/dark mm who could do with a whirl too.

Complete arena n00b though, bar the 3vP event.

You or have a day where like u see talk to the new members to PvP and help them out with PvP. Then another day for the tournament, this way we may get more people joining from the day of the new PvPers Anyway its your call

Hmmm that actually may be a better idea, i think it would get more participants that way, so a sorta "introduction, training and practise" day first then the matches on the following day. Sounds pretty good. Will have to look this over first before i turn it into a scheduled event though.

    Thanks

I'd love to attend too. Got a lowbie (22) Grav / TA I think might be useful in the Arena. Wouldn't mind giving my late 20s Kin / Elec a whirl too.

Plus Carni is in the late 40s & Maloth the late 30s so I have a full spread of chars I'd like to try in various Arena set-ups
  4. For solo or a small team I'd go Fire. For a toon for larger teams Earth.

Storm is a good choice to go with either. Hotfeet & Hurricane will clash with each other slightly but the imps will love Freezing Rain. And the AOE Immob & Tornado will work in either case too.

Fire / Trick Arrow would be good too for the stacked 45% dmg resist debuff. And the obvious Oil Slick synergy. But I think you've played TA defender already so maybe not?
  5. I'll try to make this too with my level 47 Illusion / Storm. My first one ever so I'll read the guide and do whatever I'm told
  6. Carnifax

    Do drains work?

For PvP the Ice Secondary seems very nice, benumb is basically a targetting Anti-power boost with -regen in it too.
  7. Oooh. And theres me using the CoH & CoV sides like a sucker
  8. Freezing Rain is great for helping with those pesky SR Paragon Protectors (until they drop Elude, but thats what Holds & Tornado are for). I throw a -def in it to help lower level teamies hit with AOEs or to hit bosses caught in the Rain. Tornado I also have a -def in there. But I can't really use Tornado for damage as an Earth Controller can.

MaX, where do you look up these figures? I want to check a few figures in TA.

Lightning Storm doesn't really need Accuracies, it seems very accurate anyway. Another EndRdx, recharge or Range might be better.

I'd agree with Okton, Snow Storm doesn't need too many slots with Quicksand there too. Just milk it for the -recharge (which can't be enhanced) and the -fly (great for Earth).

Hurricane is a super power. Just don't switch it on and run at melee constantly as a Storm Defender did with us during the week, blowing minions everywhere away from the Inv Tank. It's best used to push minions back into the kill zone so the scrappers and tanks save their lil legs, or pin them in a corner or against a wall. Just remember its 360 knockback so while you're pinning one guy in the corner you could be scattering the rest to the four winds. TP & Hurricane is a match made in heaven (except for the manky End usage).
  9. Why not try Trick Arrow /Psi? Its attacks & debuffs too but they're offensive debuffs like Acid Arrow and a few targetting attacks. It'd certainly look more offenderish than Rad. Plus you get bugger all defenses, just like a real Blaster

Yes, TA is my flavour o'the month this month.

    Names freed up

I'd love to know who has Carnifax on Onion actually.
  11. Gotta agree with DC, even if you don't want to Blast theres a few powers in each set that have strong debuffs or soft control thrown in there too which can really fit into a "I support & buff my teammates rather than killing things myself" build (that description really needs work. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue like Pure Build).

After all you're a team build. So your Tank or Controller teamie should be holding or disapating any aggro so go nuts with Tenb Tentacles (controllers will love you) or Irradiate just before the Blaster unloads with an AOE. Or help the scrapper out by focusing on debuffing the damage resistance or recharge of that +2 boss with a series of single target attacks from Sonic or Psy.

Actually for a Support Orientated Empath Archery seems like the weakest choice, it has few secondary effects and seems to be AOE intensive without any decent debuffs attached to them.
  12. LOL, Poor Eochai.

Nice work Sar, feeding my addiction to geeky gamer comics further.
  13. For Robotics / FF you should be able to just leave everything on Aggressive and PFF up when he gets close to take the damage. BGMode doesn't work through PFF though, be aware of that.

Then, once the henchies have him tied up move about, drop PFF and use that really annoying repel field to semi-perma knockback him into a wall.

What difficulty are you doing it on? If its not the lowest setting then theres your problem right there, drop the diff should be the first step for any mish type or mob type you find difficult.
  14. Any Kinetics defender can survive happily without Stamina as they get Transference. You can take Stamina but its more fun flying by the seat of your pants, plus you get 3 extra power slots by skipping it.

Just wait till Monkey Mayhem gsts her pets, there'll be four little psycho scrappers in there

Why do you think I switched to Trick Arrow

  16. Carnifax

    Best solo Def?

In terms of raw offense it looks like Kin / Sonic or TA / Sonic would be good choices. TA / Sonic should be able to do something like an 60%+ (maybe up to 80%) damage resistance debuff & Flaming Oil Slick at 26. No heals, buffs or meaningful accuracy debuffs though. Probably better in a duo or teams.

A Kinetics has the self-heal & damage buffs via Siphon Power. Siphon Speed is useful with Cone attacks in combat. But Kins are so useful on teams it'd be a shame to solo him.

Rad and Dark are better all round options with the Accuracy debuffs & heals giving you decent survivabilty. Rad is probably a little better solo thanks to AM. Dark Miasma leaves you gasping for End a lot, AM helps with this a bit.
  17. I generally debuff the Lieut at the back too. By the time he does drop there's usually so few enemies left that the lack of debuff doesn't matter for the end of the fight.

Bosses get picked on too much (aww) to be relying on. And minions just get mowed down too quickly to bother with.

But your anchor will die a bit, thats the weakness of sets like Rad, toggles dropping via death or you getting mezzed. Its even worse with my Fire/Rad controller. Those little Munkies are like 3 psycho scrappers and theres no telling em.
  18. For a */Stormie I found Hibernate is a godsend as emergency protection, a heal & a much needed End recovery.

I've accidently dropped off ledges to land in front of 8 or 9 Malta and Hib has saved my [censored] vs the Sappers & given me time to prepare or TP away. Plus in AV fights you can drop all your placables, let your pet fight away and Hibernate up to recover End while still contributing. Also its possible to time dropping it so as you do Hurricane pops up, making it easier to survive when you do break out. Its also fun for annoying the Empath by letting your health go to orange, Hibernating up and watching them frantically try to heal you without success. Mind DoTs though, plenty of times I've iced up and then keeled over.

The Ice Epics Ice Storm doesn't do Containment damage, unlike Fireball. It is a nice power as you can stop them escaping but for raw damage Fireball is probably stronger. As far as I know Ice Storm has no max target limit either, its a Placable so on an 8 man it could be better. I could be 100% wrong on this last point though, its a vague recollection & half assumption from using it last week on a huge group. Also Ice Storm takes a fair while to drop its damage.

For an Earth / Storm I'd go Ice just for the chaos of the Immob or Earthquake or Quicksand & Snowstorm, Freezing Rain & Ice Storm. But Fire is more effective at making stuff go "boom" quickly.
  19. If you're */Dark slap Darkest Night & Fearsome Stare on him too, Fearsome Stares fear won't affect him but will scare his minions & the accuracy debuff affects them all and its huge apparently, the same as Darkest Night. Even for a MM thats about 10.8% unslotted each (17.28 fully slotted with SOs), so at least a 21.6% accuracy debuff & a damage debuff from DN, which should help out a bit.

I usually Bodyguard with all and when he's coming Tar Patch his route, set the Lich on him & then Darkest Night, Fearsome Stare and get the knights to melee him.

Howling Twilight is another fav for the auto minion stun & the -slow & -recharge against them, nice stacked with Tar Patch.

The guys are right though, let him come to you outside the vault regardless of what secondary you have, have your pets in Bodyguard but ready and have any nasty surprises ready that you can (Traps for example has loads of placables and high level Trick Arrow has 2 too).

    Rad/Cold Build

Ah right, ta very much. That makes much more sense alright.

So when I get Frostworks at 16 my choices will be Brutes or Doms to slap it on :

    Level 16 gives : Base 349.7323. Lvl Mod 0.8

    Brutes :
    Base : 349.7323 - (349.7323 * 0.8 *( 1 - 1.4) ) = 461.65
    Max : 1.5 * ( 349.73 - (349.7323 * 0.8 * (1-2) ) ) = 944.27
Max is 204.54 % of Base

    Doms :
    Base : 349.7323 - (349.7323 * 0.8 *( 1 - 0.95) ) = 335.74
    Max : 1.5 * ( 349.7323 - (349.7323 * 0.8 * (1-1) ) ) = 524.6
    Max is 156.25% of base

Not sure how much slotted Frostworks will add, haven't got it yet but if acted as well as Essence Boost the Dom would cap out at 156.25% instead of 160%.
  21. On the debuffing thing, a rough-and-ready rule is that if its a Targetted power which needs to be fired at an enemy it won't stack debuffs, if its placable it will.

This is a rough rule though, not an iron law. Some 50/50 powers like Glue Arrow bend this rule.

On the Slow-mo running on furniture thing, any pet can encounter this. With Henchies it should be easier to get them to go around. I've had it happen to my Phantasm and only recasting or Recalling him will get him free.

For henchies, as the guys say, a GOTO command is generally the way to go. GOTO also means they won't waste time with weaker ranged attacks either (good for Necros Grave Knights).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
The to hit debuff on fearsome stare is roughly the same as that on darkest night, at about 18% unslotted.

    [/ QUOTE ]
18%? Woah. Thats unholy. Thought it'd be 5%ish like every other Fear power.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Spectral Terror wont ever give the same control that Flash does. Fear is not as good in controlling as hold is... And I rarelly miss a foe when I use Flash, otherwise I wouldn't use it as an opener in big teams being a squishy.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd probably agree with you for your Secondary (Rad). You've got RI for protection via the Accuracy debuff & to ensure Flash hits via the Defense Debuff. That said the low duration & long recharge of Flash count against it being used for every encounter anyway.

But for a Stormie the only Acc Debuff protection is Hurricane, which has obvious issues with a PBAOE. And your Defense Debuff is Freezing Rain which scatters & annoys them before you can close to Flash. Or Tornado... once thats released you've no chance of having a nice bunch to Flash. The Ranged Spectral Terror gets a lot more use with my Stormie, and with the quick recharge I can use it for every bunch.
  24. Isn't the Accuracy Debuff of Tentacles pretty high too? I'd throw a acc debuff in that in place of an Immob. Generally one doesn't need immobs in any power really I've found.

I'm not sure of the accuracy debuff of the Fear but I'd be tempted to go with a standard Control setup of 2 acc, 2 recharge and 2 Fear duration. Since they only attack if you hit them the accuracy debuff isn't "used" much (since they'll mostly be cowering in fear whilst under it).

DC is right though, Fearsome Stare could do with 12 slots its that good. The cone is pretty huge too.
