I want a */Psi def...
They are both great sets and both have situations where you can feel slightly god-like.
I'd have to go with storm though as it's unique and fun with flashy effects and lots of drama, whereas Kin has underwhealming effects and often feels like playing a filing cabinet simulator whilst high on speed.
Kin will almost always make you more friends. Storm can easily make you unpopular.
Kin is easier, yet tiring, to play well. Storm is probably the most difficult defender primary to play well.
Tough choice really.
Hmmm, seeing as I've already got a kin controller, I may tip towards storm.
The thing is, if I went for, say, FF/, would the time freed up for me to blast be worth it? Like, would I even be able to do noticable damage?
You'll outblast a team of blasters with /psi.

If you wan't damage, take a set with either damage buffs or resistance debuffs. So if the choice is between storm and FF, go storm.

Is stam not needed on kin/psi?
Any Kinetics defender can survive happily without Stamina as they get Transference. You can take Stamina but its more fun flying by the seat of your pants, plus you get 3 extra power slots by skipping it.
It's not must-have after transference, no. Still nice tho'

The AoE's could use 1 EndRdx each, Mental blast is propably worth slotting in I8, acro doesn't need that much End, I'd strongly recommend fitting in snipe somewhere, preferably early on.
Dont miss the snipe, skip Scream instead if you have to drop a power. The psi snipe is fantastic. Snipe and Subdue can two hit pre DO's (though probably not as effective as foes get tougher)

Hmmm, about the snipe... I don´t like snipes on any kinetic toon since the activation time kills your dps. As a kin/ defender you want to be close to your enemies and you want to make good use of your superior recharge speed for maximum support and dps. A snipe is anathema to this concept.
Some more remarks concerning the build:
Syphon power is not needed once you get Fulcrum Shift. (The only use would be as a PvP debuff, but you have better toys to play with.) I would suggest taking it and respeccing out of it later.
1 Acc seems to be a little bit insufficient for Invincible missions. You might want to consider slotting one additional Acc in some powers (missing with transference hurts) or get Leadership.
3 EndRdx in Acrobatics? I hope you are not serious. Each and every one of your attacks or kinetic powers consumes more endurance per second than acrobatics. Slot some attacks instead.
EndRdx for Superspeed? Once more I am baffled. You don´t want to have this running mid-fight, do you? With Syphon Speed stacked you will wish you had taken hover to stay below light speed... Anyway, run speed enhancements will do more good than EndRdx.
Basically EndRdx in almost any toggle is wasted as long as often used click powers like attacks aren´t six-slotted.
EndRdx in Increase Density... again, the same problem. Increase Density is a situational power, so it will hardly drain you endurance. I slot it up on resistance enhancements to provide good protection agains smashing and energy damage if I have to use it.
Generally speaking I find that build not too good as it is. Even with Transference you would profit more from having Fitness or you could get Leadership if you absolutely want to avoid it. But things like Syphon power, a second travel power (Superspeed and Superjump) and Repel will hardly get you the same mileage.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Never did get around to finishing a /psi guide, it's sat half-completed in my documents.
The build at the end of the guide - I've shuffled it around now to include Subdue, which I like a lot.
Lance is very very useful early on, but once you hit 32 goes out of the window in favour of piling in mindlessly and repeatedly.Scream takes a little too long to fire off but has the potential for huge damage, slotted up, FS'd and spread across a whole mob. Course, that means huge aggro, too.
Generally speaking, pick powers that look kinda fun and by the time you hit the 34 respec you'll have a good idea of exactly what you do and don't want.

I'd say:
Pick two attack powers that aren't snipes early on. It will help you out if you ever get in a situation where you have to solo.
Pick a lot of your primary powers and try them out. Just because you have experience with them from a Controller or Corruptor doesn't mean that you'll use them the same way when playing a Defender.
Whether you think you made a critical mistake or not, do the first respec with a level 24-25 team (unless you've got a respec from Vet rewards or a freespec). When you want to respec, (ab)use the Training Room to test out respecs before you commit to one on Live.
Don't worry about slotting until you start messing with SOs. The game is easy enough on Heroic that you can get to 25 without slotting your attacks as a solo Defender, it will just take some patience.

... no idea as to what primary though. I'm looking at kin or storm at the moment. I'm mainly PvE. I'm thinking of kin, so I can pump out some nice fast damage/buffs, but at the same time storm looks like it can give me a pack of great tools.
Advice?
