My question is, "Is the system completely broken or do we just not know how and if the code works in the new system?" In other words - is the code still there and being executed, or has it been bypassed/removed?
I was doing some digging since I should have received my 6 Year Vet badge. I'm pretty good at math and noticed something on my Account Page. I may be heading straight out into left field with this, but according to that, my subscription renew date is correct, but my Paid time is wrong.
Without giving away the true details of my subscription or account data, it goes something like this:
Subscription Renewal: December 1, 2012
Paid Time: 7 years, 2 months.
Let's say my true anniversary should have been May 1, 2012. However, if you consider my renewal date is Dec 1 and I have paid 7 years + 2 months, the anniversary date looks like October 1, not May 1. (If 7 years, 2 months is up in December, then 7 years is up in October).
If the system is still operational at all, it appears various earned free months (due to buying certain expansions, etc) are not counted as "paid time" even though they had previously counted toward Vet rewards in the old system. If that's the case, perhaps, like in the example above, I would receive the badge in October instead of May.
So, if I am explaining myself well enough, your anniversary badge may come from comparing your "paid time" to your renewal date and working backwards. Has anyone passed this date yet? I have not. -

I like the set so far, but I do have a question-
Any particular reason we have to be on the ground to cast Lifegiving Spores? It's not like you even have to cast it on yourself.
Why the flyer-hate? -
I love this event, but the cadence on Liberty is way off.
All zones get invasion at the same time.
3 hours pass with nothing.
All zones get invasion at the same time.
Kind of hard to build up momentum or any excitement at all that way. -

Once upon a time, King's Row connected to Perez Park instead of Galaxy City.
When that change was made, they took out the door from KR, but left the security tower and fencing making a rather odd looking feature of an entry way with no door behind it in Northeast KR.
Now that GC is gone, why not put that gate back in King's Row? -
Shouldn't this information be easily and readily available? Why should anyone need to ask? I'm sure it is noted someplace accessible to the community at large, but it was not here nor in the information from the store.

Servers tend to take on a culture all their own. I doubt that Exaulted will stop using Help as a general chat channel since it's a melting pot of servers and other servers use it as just that as a norm.
However, if you attempt to use Help for general chatting on many servers, you will be sanctioned. Anything from "Please don't do that" to getting on Global Ignore lists.
I know this has caused friction for folks who have moved to a new server with a different culture from "that server is so rude" and "that noob is so rude" when, in reality, neither is true. -
Where do you guys form up at? I'd be happy to help if you need experienced players, but I also do not want to take a spot away from someone trying to earn the badges.
-
That seems like common behavior on some servers. It's a global channel the entire server can see unlike Broadcast and others that are zone-specific.
I assumed the practice was started on Exalted by folks from servers where that is the norm.
It only bugs me when someone is actually trying to get help and they are unable to because of the chatter - or worse, ridiculed for not already knowing the answer.
Exalted is for VIP's, so many assume that means experienced players - but that is not the case. Many VIP's are brand new to the game as well. -

Quote:1) Vanessa is an incredibly powerful psychic. The DE fair no better against psychic trickery than anyone else.
And she didn't. She does not survive her encounter with the Avatar.
I don't like the story/premise of the whole trial.
"We must find Vanessa DeVore and escort her safely out of the Underground."
"We will need to go through this still locked and fully guarded door to do so, and this big war walker, and the fighting IDF and DE, and another big war walker...twice, and these traps, and then the avatar of hamidon....all to find Vanessa DeVore who is perfectly fine and still herself and not some DE monstrosity."
1) How did she get through there alone and uninfected by the DE and alive?
2) If she went some sort of alternate route to end up on the other side of the avatar then why can't we?
3) If there is an alternate route then why isn't it infested just as bad since the avatar would likely surround itself on all sides with the same amount of protection as well as IDF attacking from all sides?
4) The chances of trying to meet up with a person who is also in motion and having this deadly force infesting the area between, just by chance, are astronomically low.
How can they possibly explain this trial's story?
2,3) It is possible for a single person -especially one as powerful and resourceful as Vanessa DeVore -to move through areas unnoticed while a full league of 20 (give or take) heroes clodding about blowing up everything in their path. Large groups attract attention. It's also possible that Vanessa's travel through the are alerted them to the presence of outsiders, so they are on higher alert.
4) We aren't meeting her by chance. We are following her. Desdemona is leading us straight to her as she can sense her location and follow her.
I don't think either of those are stretches that would break the willing suspension of disbelief. -
I use FoW in city zones for badging. If the mrker area is still fogged, i don't have it. If it is clear, I do.
Even still, i would not complain if it went away.
Or how about storing that data on the client? -
Once you get to 10/10 on the Rogue meter, the next tip that drops should be a Rogue Alignment mission. Once you complete this mission, you will become a Rogue and can visit Paragon City.
In the Isles, you will continue to get Villain/Rogue tips that will allow you to switch back to villain or reconfirm your Rogueness (you get 30 merits for doing this, but you can only get the merits once).
In Paragon City, you will get Hero tips that would allow you to complete the swap from villain to hero, if you desire.
At no time will you be forced to switch alignments, though. Filling the meter to 10/10 will only unlock the appropriate alignment mission, not switch you. You can even do the alignment mission and then decline to switch alignments when it is done. -
I didn't see this solution posted here, although you can find it in the knowledge base with some dedicated searching.
Twice now, I've been locked out of the forum for bad user ID or password. The forum login is the same as the game login, but I could access the game just fine. It seems the two accounts can get out of sync.
Assuming you have created a Forum Account already, the solution is to reset your game password, which will sync the two accounts. Here's how:
Log into NCSoft Account Management (https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/plaync_login.pl)
Click Game Accounts
Click City of Heroes / City of Villains
Click Change Password
Set Password (you can use the same password you have now)
This should sync the Forum account password with the game account password. -
A lot of us are filling in these badges - thanks to Wulf's leadership and all of our dedication to not screwing up the final phase. We seem to be collecting at least one of AtGS or LaC with regularity.
The trial does not require a lot of high level incarnate powers to succeed. Having heightened defense / resistance on the tank and main healers helps, I'm sure, but for the rank and file support and damage toons not so much.
Anti-M goes down pretty easily. The trick is avoiding the oblit beam and not dying, and your incarnate powers are not really all that much use at either of these since both the Oblit Beam and Disintegration are irresistible.
So it's more on the player paying proper attention and a little bit of luck than having 12 tier 4'd ubertoons running it. -
We are lucky to have you, Wulfy. Thanks for all the runs you have and continue to do.
-
After being on several successful and many, many unsuccessful attempts at those two badges, it is possible for the entire league to participate and get the badges.
However, failure is ridiculously easy. During the fight, you are talking in the neighborhood of 30-40 oblit beam attacks (if you are going for both badges at once in hopes of getting at least one of them). Even very competent players can easily blow this only once in 30 tries and it only takes one player to do it once. Most of our failures were like that - an otherwise good and capable player blinked at the wrong time. I've blinked at the wrong time and gotten away with it, other times, I was the jerk that ruined it for everyone.
I think one of the reasons for the relative lack of Keyes runs, for badges or not, is the extreme repetition of patterns and cycles on both the macro and micro levels.
With BAF and Lambda, at least you can blunder into a badge or two. In Keyes every single badge requires high levels of coordination and competence.
Everyone who wears either of these badges or the MO badge has earned it. Through as much perseverance and resolve as through any level of skill or competence. We did not employ the method, but that goes to folks on "the bench" as well. No one wants to just stand around in the safe zone while others do the risk and work required. -
Quote:I agree. I wanted to bring other AT's into the discussion, for a couple of reasons. I think we all want the PB's to be their own AT and to be not only competent, but also valued as team mates - and certainly not functionally equivalent to Warshades. The only reason for comparing Peacebringers to Warshades is that balancing a shapeshifting archetype is so difficult that it's easier to make suggestions in the context of another shapeshifting archetype.
With Warshades, they got it right. No one wants to turn Peacebringers into Warshades by any stretch (although you could have fooled me with the changes in beta) but so long as it's done in the context of asking for comparable levels of performance in what Peacebringers currently do then I don't see anything wrong with it.
For example, asking that Peacebringers be able to stack stuns on entire spawns to the level that Warshades can isn't necessarily going to get you anywhere, but asking for comparable levels of team support might be more in line with what Peacebringers can contribute and still be distinct.
But that's just an example. The point is that there is nothing wrong with using a measuring stick.
The WS is a natural comparison as it is also a HEAT, and it does its role well. We'd all love our PB's to do so well.
The only thing I would fear is that any further developments would push PB's to be even closer to WS's in how they operate (I liked old Lightform better than new - it now operates more like a WS power, but it is not something that needed to change :/)
I also fear that if the community appears to be complaining about the disparity between WS's and PB's, it will result in a WS nerf rather than a PB improvement when what we really want is to raise the abilities of a PB to be comparable to all AT's, not just WS's. I believe the consensus is PB's lag behind all AT's - not that WS's excel. This needs to be stressed because the devs have said they are happy with PB's now. If they are happy with PB's and we are complaining about them relative to WS's, what will the devs look at to close that gap? -
I think the comparison to Warshades is simply to show how far behind Peacebringers are, but that's a good point. I think I implied it earlier in this thread, but I care far less that PB's and WS's be equal than wanting PB's to fill a role - any role - well. To be a Jack of All Trades, then one would not expect a PB to be better than another AT at what that AT does, but then it must be significantly better at some other role that makes the PB worth having around.
I've always looked at PB's human form as the AT Blapper fans should love to play. They have great melee skills with some ranged attacks and better survivability than a Blapper.
But, the melee comes with knockback and the ranged damage is poor. Now, with the newer mobs out there, Resistance based defense also seems less valuable. ***
If a PB's supposed to tank than at least Rhino needs to be able to survive tanking AND do a better job of agro management. Perhaps make the Rhino Defense themed to add to the Resist it's getting from the inherent, etc (instead of just more resist) + Punch-Voke or an agro aura. Even if the damage remains poor (Rhino should not out-shine tanks), at least it's a function the Rhino could do well enough to make getting that form worth while and actually useful to teams.
If a PB's human form is supposed to Blap, then it needs to do decent damage compared to scrappers and blasters. Again, I understand and agree that a "jack of all Trades" should not out-shine true tradesmen, but it's damage out needs to at least be in the same league.
If the PB's supposed to be an offender, than it needs to be able to apply some heals (or debuffs) and some crowd control. Pulsar and Glowing Touch don't cut it.
My Invulnerability / Super Strength / Pyre Mastery Tank is three times better at every facet of game play than my PB is.
Now, I think the changes made will help close that gap considerably in all avenues except survivability and agro management - so that's great - but it still leaves the PB without a role. Matching a tank in damage is not a "wow" factor unless it does something else - crowd control, healing, debuffing, agro management - anything. The PB's still do not do any of these things competently.
(***I don't have numbers to prove that, just impressions. Praetorian Clocks shred resistance based armor as do most level 50+ AV's, new and old. I used to be able to stand up to Lord Recluse in the STF with my invuln tank all day long with a little assistance from a healer. Now that I am uber-Incarnate with extra armor, I/O's, etc - he two shots me.)
EDIT: I will miss old lightform, too. It was the one facet of my PB that helped me prove I was valuable to teams. When some poor fool runs into a room and agros all 5 groups, I could pop Lightform and run around like a screaming idiot dropping mobs left and right while the rest of the team died. The fact that Lightform didn't root meant I could position myself for the follow up attack before the mobs landed from my KB or I could move on to the next target knowing my still-animating Incandescent Strike was going to finish the job on the other side of the room. It made for some wild, fun combat that entertained the PC's while their toons lay dead until I could give them enough breathing space to pop a wakie. Those instances were the only times I really felt like I was contributing more than a scrapper or blaster who might have filled my slot otherwise. -
Quote:The badges are all PITA, but it wouldn't be so bad if folks actually liked doing the trial. :/I'm actually beyond frustrated with these badges. It's gotta be a joke...
lol
I'm OK with badges requiring a little dedication and a challenge, but it would be nice if the requirements didn't make non-badgers cringe.
A great example is the new lowbie sewer trials. The two badges - defeat Vahz AV w/o killing cadavers and defeat all minions before defeating Lost AV - both require coordination and teamwork, but won't invoke slurs against one's mother for suggesting the team go for them.
I'm still up for Sunday night runs - I am available most Sundays. Where are we meeting and what time? -
Quote:I've not participated in the Kheld forums, but I have always wanted this, too. That would be a strong pro-team addition to the type. Although I was thinking making the single target ally heal an AoE heal, but either change would be a great boon to teaming.O.o
ooookay, then. Whatever that means.
You know, getting back to the power gap I referred to in the 26-30 range, one suggestion I always liked - but was almost universally hated by everyone else - was Lord Xenite's proposal that reform essence be made a pbaoe heal instead of just a self heal.
As it stands, Warshades can position and stun an entire spawn with the powers they gain between 26 and 30, and it only makes sense for Peacebringers to gain comparable levels of direct team support before 30.
There was such a vehement knee-jerk reaction to the notion (a false notion, btw) that it would turn us into pocket healzors that he eventually dropped it, and I've always thought that was a shame.
The argument (only seeing what you posted here) is fallacious (not that that has ever been reason to not make a particular argument) in that a PB is how you play him. Once upon a time, all Defenders were healers in most people's mind. Now folks seem to understand well that that is not the case. I doubt that would be much of a drawback to PB's. -
Quote:Now I understand. I always thought Peacebringers were melee combatants. I've had it all wrong, they are a blending of Blaster and Tank. Also, (and the main reason I'm posting this here) I noticed that Kheldians only show up in the "Ranged" and "Tank" sections of the style selector.
Tank = highest survivability, lower damage
Blaster = highest damage, lower survivability
Peacebringer = tank damage, blaster survivability
Now that I understand, PB's are in danger of becoming extremely over powered. They should not change KB to KD - they should change it to phase enemies on par with the cage powers. That is the only hope we have to keep them in check. -
Doing a little read-catch-up here:
Quote:Um, yeah. I would hope so. Or are we saying that Peacebringers should be happy having the relative damage output of a tank? Don't want to over power them peacebringers. Next thing you know, they could provide almost as as much damage as a scrapper, then the game will be all unhinged.Originally Posted by Arbiter HawkPeacebringers have greater AoE Damage Potential than Super Strength -
Quote:While I think that would funny, I think in the end that would be another reason folks don't want PB's around. SAt least if it were group hover instead of group fly, though, it would take away one of the more hilarious (or annoying based on PoV) other features of group fly - the caster being significantly faster than the castee.Ya I actually meant the latter so as not to break the cottage rule and for the fun you mentioned
Could be turned to combat hover to provide the team a very small defense bonus as well. Before people could choose to make travel powers not affect them I would have had a problem but now... Just something to make it useful at all.
