Yeah, forgot that:
Hasten needs a complete revamp
Add Staff, pole arm weapons etc.

Staffs, polearms and the like are required for me to assign a seal of ultimate approval.

Quote:Sorry for lack of clarity: ED ragequit posts. Normally, I write much more clearly---but lately, I've been experimenting with NOT drinking coffee. The results are just as I expectedI haven't seen any ragequit posts. Would the OP be so kind and provide links to them? They are very amusing to read.
@Techbot Alpha
You have some links to prove your negative assertions?
Cal -
Well, well, such a hullabaloo I've not seen since ED en masse ragequits and forum rantages...
But I couldn't care less.
What I want to know, is, will I finally get what I've wanted for this game since day One of Beta? Here's my list:
Light Blaster Powerset ala Legacy Chain, et al
Laser, pulsar, disruptor firearm Powerset
Magic graphics for current powers (examples provided on request)
Water Blaster Powerset
Underwater Zone, aka Atlantis
Outerspace, durn it! (including Moonbase)
Elemental effects on melee weapons
True Shapeshifting Powerset
Giant Powerset (ala Wasp and Giant Man)
Emanation Point customization (where's my fiery eyeblast!)
Reorganization of the CC---it's a hot mess, right now
That's my short list. With the onset of Freedom and, apparently, new ways of developing the game, is any of this now feasible? I'll put up with this craziness as I will continue my subscription and only interact with the new system when it pleases me to do so. However, I would point out finally giving me what I want would go a long way towards keeping my cash flowing into the coffers.

Quote:It doesn't do anything, alas. You need to download the pack, and extract the contents into the right folder (directory). See this post above for the folder name.
It will then automagically use the new cursor, no selection needed or possible. To change back to default, you'll need to remove the extracted files from where you put them.
If you install them while city is running, you will need to restart the game. -
Quote:Generally like this version except for 'Armor'. It's the high-pitched, squeaky voice that's killing me. Also, that ridiculous 'clown' energy armor...yuck. Perhaps they'll evolve it into something more serious sounding and looking. Interesting power though...like FF + EA? But she gets blasts as well.Enjoying the series so far. Naturally, Armor is already grating on my nerves...
Looking forward to an English vocal sub version.

I'll give this a try. Some random ideas I've had over the years:
Magick/Magic:
Currently, there are NO magickal effects for powers. All powers, even if you choose magic origin, allow only a 'tech' look. Devices, for example. Use existing graphics as an option instead of the tech-only look we have now. For example, the various 'drones' floating around our heads: rulaaru eyeballs or dark or light fairy or wisps from Croatoa. You get the idea.
Elemental auras for weapons as already suggested.
Like the trend of magickal auras already in place; please add more: ankhs, pentacles, eyes, fairies, etc
I add my voice to the 'kill the hasten' power effect and update super speed. Hate taking these powers because of the way they mess-up my costume designs heh.
Customizing PPPs and EPPs, of course---if possible.
that's all for now,
Cal -
Yeah, I was there the whole stretch. Didn't talk much as it was apparently nearly futile. Besides, I didn't really have any /burning/ questions to ask.
Primary annoyances? The PVP crowd spamming useless PVP questions.
Cal -
pure suckage.
Sorry. But having waited for this movie since the first time I picked up a Thor comic, all I can say is that.
How disappointing.
Cal -
Nah. Dood, you can't let the whining backbiters win. Keep on spread-sheeting, SC! Have fun your way.
I'll admit like many others I could never play your way, but that's completely irrelevant.
Cal -
Yep...I find it boring beyond endurance. I did get 2 of my mains to T1 Judgement, but the process is making me hate playing.
Cal -
Quote:Ahem. You meant Bugs Bunny-esque, I think?Right, because this is a comic book universe where the only sane, rational response to any sign of aggression from a dimension that has been nothing but friendly to you up until then is a Daffy Duck-esque "of course you realize, this means war." Other dimensions. They are all just amorphous entities where everyone is the same. Which is exactly how the Portal Corp missions present most of them, so who can blame the Rikti or Praetorians for thinking our dimension is just like the one where the secret exclusive hand-picked girls-only assassin cult makes up the entire population?
-
All great ideas! Keep em comin.
thanks

Quote:Yep. This. Some days I wonder if we didn't suffer for losing Jack Emmert (a scary thought). Sure, the guy had a very *** backwards view of game design, but damned if he didn't at least keep the plot consistent and the story fast and loose. These recent... Developments trouble me. Stories coming out of the aether, story arcs existing with no backstory, no build-up and no lasting point, shoddy writing, railroading plots... I have to wonder how much of a crap anyone on the development team gives about this game's story at all, to say nothing of games as an artistic medium. This approach that "Story is just an excuse to punch things." and "You can just pretend it didn't happen." has the potential to erode one of the core principles of what makes City of Heroes great.

I'm 51...durn it. I've waited for that for years.
I'm 51!
Here' s my /b:

Quote:This. Sorry to have to emphasize the criticism, but this purty much outlines my feelings on all of this Praetorian stuff. Sure, at first, it was a cool 'side' issue---but no longer.Yeah, as it turns out, stories that are centered around one of the most trite, cliched, overdone hackneyed plot devices in history actually aren't all that interesting in the long term. Go figure.
Orders of magnitude of dislike, here.

Quote:This. Though I have done dozens of the 'raids' mentioned. I'll try it but I'm already hatin.I'm agreed with this. This is exacerbated by the fact that in my 7 years of playing CoH, I have done exactly one Mothership raid (about a year and a half ago) and one Hamidon raid (about a week ago). The ultra-sized team thing is not my bag. It's not how I care to spend my time and now I'm presented with a) accept that level 50 and alpha-slotting is as far as I will be able to take my characters, or b) participate in a system I don't like in order to be able to keep up with the Joneses.
Neither of these options really appeal to me. I would like some reasonable alternatives to advance through the system, be it a few task forces or whatever. I have heard the argument that "if you don't like the post-50 content, then you can continue playing the way you have been without it." And I probably will, assuming I don't cancel my account (elaboration on this to come). However, I know that for the first few months after I20 is released, attempting to gather a team to play non-raid content which is not the new TFs will be a losing venture. So, soloing, raiding, or running the new TFs over and over again will be the choices presented to me.
So, I'm considering cancelling my account. It's not based off of malice. I'm not sitting at the keyboard going "OMG THEY'RE ADDING RAIDS AND NOW I WILL QUIT." But if the options to proceed are all things that I have no interest in, then why would I continue to keep paying to play if I don't like it? I wouldn't buy a copy of Madden from my local EB Games if I don't like football, after all. I'll give I20 a shot once it hits live, and who knows, it may blow my mind, but I doubt it.
Cal -
And, btw, here's the lyric I think you were quoting:
"Out Of The Cradle"
It's not a place
It's a yearning
It's not a race
It's a journey
It's not an act
It's an attraction
It's not a style
It's an action
It's a dream for the waking
It's a flower touched by flame
It's a gift for the giving
It's a power with a hundred names
Surge of energy, spark of inspiration
The breath of love is electricity
Maybe time is a bird in flight
Endlessly mocking
Here we come out of the cradle
Endlessly rocking
Endlessly rocking
It's a hand
That rocks the cradle
It's a motion
That swings the sky
It's method on the edge of madness
It's a balance on the edge of a knife
It's a smile on the edge of sadness
It's a dance on the edge of life
Endlessly rocking
Sadly, I20 doesn't express this dynamic to me...

If the journey is boring, dull and brimmed to the hilt with insipid platitudes, then I have to focus on the destination out of sheer frustrated boredom. Sorry, but that's how all this incarnate stuff is reading for me.
Where's the Moon Base? Outerspace? Atlantis? Magick Powers ala Arcanaville's most excellent expositional commentary scattered here and there all over the forums? Where are the 'giant' powers? water powers? cosmic powers? metamorph powers? and really giant robots?
Instead, we have a tired, old chestnut: evil-counterpart dimensional invasion and drama-queen fixation on Greek Mythology. Where are all the Norse Gods, the Japanese Gods...etc?
And all the costume ideas we've begged for over the years? Yes, Awesome, really Sexy-Jay and Team have come thru with cool stuffs, but I'm still waiting for a revamp on those pathetic original tails and still waiting for a magick pack that allows for non-techno effects for powers and pets.
Give me all this, finally after 7 years! jeeze. Then we can talk about the dull, insipid platitudes of I20.

Quote:Same here. Theme, theme, theme. Any story element that breaks my characters' themes rankles to the point I subconsciously do my best to avoid it, or better, ignore it. My fire/fire/fire blaster to this day, will never use any fire sword powers, for example. Which is ok as my choice to NOT use said powers has no impact on my effectiveness. This new, end-game system however...well, I don't think that's going to be true any more, eh? I'm going to be compelled to toe-the-line, seems to me.I'm a massive theme player, and there's only like 3 of my 80 characters that the current options fit with dramatically. It would fit better if we had some kinda general robot or elemental or something.
But, the original question: I'd be willing to delay this entire issue indefinitely.
Cal -
I'm trying to say: it's annoying that I have to, is all. I'm fully capable of playing make-believe, sure. But it's annoying to have to over and over again.
The Other Guys, of course, have such a wide-open theme, that it comes across as silliness---no serious story you can either like or hate heh.
Cal2 -
There is no doubt we'll all have to do this make-believe if we want to continue playing, eh?
But it's extremely annoying to have to, once again, skip powers or content because an undesirable theme is being shoved down our throats. I do realize, of course, that some players out there probably LOVE this Praetorian retcon of CoH. And, of course, for them, I say great! enjoy it, have fun. Meanwhile, I'll have to grit my teeth if I want to advance/progress, etc.
I don't call that fun. It's annoying. The only other option I can see would be to cave and go to the Other Guys where origin, themes, powers are fully open-ended---but so is everything else to the point of absurdity. A tough call.

Quote:*shrug*Yes, they'll sweep all complaints aside like a cosmically powered god-emperor sweeps aside all resistance - you must submit to the will of the devs, or be destroyed.
That's in the EULA, I think.
Positron, himself, responded to the PPP complaints with a similar phrase: don't like it, don't use it---you aren't required to, etc. Words to that effect.
This Praetorian stuff seemed really fun when it was first announced: choosing sides, the forum games with our logos and all. At that point, the Praetorian storyline seemed like a 'side issue'---I felt it was a neat alternative to the Primal setting--not 'required', by any means. But that's changing, isn't it? Now, it's the way things are, they way they are going to be. And, once again, all our own stories, powers, themes and the like are swept away IF we choose to advance these things further, beyond the core game.
I realize this is a necessary mechanic: all departments must follow the agreed upon design, policy and theme like any other business. It would be impossible to update the product, otherwise. Was there no way to provide for a more 'neutral' backdrop for those of us who prefer to progress our characters outside of this Praetorian theme, though? Why not?
Cal2 -
Quote:Yeah, this is my view as well. I remember all too clearly my serious disappointment with the PPPs. I ranted, raved, argued with many to no avail. No one seemed to understand the source of my frustration. Now, it becomes more clear to a greater majority, it appears. What dissapoints me about the pets is that this is the second time this happened, the first time being PPPs. What I have to try not to think about is that had this and CoV been implemented differently, at this point in the game we'd have 8 different factions worth of secondary abilities to pick from. Instead, we have 2. And that's really too bad.
At this point, all of you might as well face it: this is the direction the Devs have chosen. All of their resources are being thrown at this rather boring material. Nothing any of you say or write will alter it in the least.
I dislike all of this, btw: the Alpha and all the other Incarnate nonsense. It strays dramatically, once again, into the theme of my characters and alters it against my will. None of my characters belong in any story involving Praetoria or the Well. But, apparently, I have no choice if I want to develop them further.
I play thematic characters based on unique backstory. Up until the nonsense of CoV and further in GR, that was possible. I don't understand why this Dev Team has taken this path (diving deep into homogeneity) but it certainly isn't new---it started in CoV. This is merely a more dramatic and boring expression of it.
Their answer to this criticism will likely be the same as we got before: if you don't like it, choose not to use it.
