Add another confirmation to the "KB Issue" pile, Z...

I just signed on to my Archery/Energy blaster to try this out. He's got his punch specificly slotted for KB (It's his answer to things that insist on trying to melee him. ) and typically he can launch even-level minions to the far side of an average-width room.

As-of this afternoon on live, he can only send them about a third of that distance. At most.

Life's going to be rough for him until this gets fixed.

On the good side, I also tried Knock Up with my claws stalker and that at least seemed to be working. I didn't notice a lot of difference there. Whisper was still bouncing goons off their feet with her ranged attack as usual.

    Same.

I was on Exalted Tuesday afternoon and decided to run through a quick DfB with Tamlin (lvl 12 DOed Archery/Ice blaster). We started with five... One left as soon as he saw the rest of the group. (We had no melee types. I guess that scared him. ) Another quit the team immediately after we got the Vahz badge.

The remaining three of us... two blasters and a corruptor... went on to complete the trial. It took us awhile to kill the hydra heads and the Lost were a bit of a pain in the butt, but it still went pretty well considering.

So, yeah. There's no way you have to have six or eight people to get through that thing. People are just being silly if they insist otherwise.

I can't believe I am, but I really am thinking of moving all my toons to Exalted if these new players are this ignorant and frankly.. dumb.
The trouble I've seen lately on Liberty isn't all about idiot players... It's leagues made largely of completely unshifted characters. Of the twelve toons on the last Lambda I took Sola on, there were no +3s. Only two of us even had +2s. Everyone else was at 50, including the only tank... BAF numbers have been similar.

Maybe it's new or returning players who don't know the trials by rote yet. Maybe it's the more casual people just now getting in on the trials instead of leaving them to the usual suspects from the badger crew. Or maybe it really is all PL-ed AE and DfB babies... But, for what-ever reason, we're back to a situation similar in some respects to the "early days" of trialing, when no one had shifts and as a result the trials were a lot harder to complete.

  6. I'm fond of several of mine... My two mains are both Dual Blade & Willpower (A WP/DB tank hero-side and a DB/WP stalker villain-side), but I also have a great time with my Peacebringers (One human/nova "blaster build", one human/dwarf "tough-guy build" and one human-only who's hopefully headed for blapperdom. ) as well as most of my scraps.

Usually it's because the "Team or Else!" side of the argument is prone to forget that duo and trio players even exist. Their perception really does seem to jump right from "Full Team" to "Soloist" sometimes, with little or nothing in between. o_0

    Indeed.

The thing that bugs me isn't so much that you *have* to have a team to run it, but the larger number of people required to start it this year. (I was on a couple of single-team runs last year, and while it was a little tougher to complete that way it was definitely still do-able if the group was on the ball.)

On smaller-population servers (like Liberty, where I spend most of my time-) I suspect it'll be tough to run this after the first few days' rush. Eight people are a lot easier to find than twelve.

Problems I have directly observed with DfBabies:

    - No idea how to communicate or what to communicate about. They still only have access to Help and Local. So they can ask in Help, where their question can get 'drowned out' (or replied to with a Tell that they don't know how to respond to). Or they ask in Local, where no one knows the answer because they are also all DfBabies.

    - They don't know how to get to high level areas, so they stand around in Mercy, where their choices are another DfB or grey street mobs or Contacts they don't know how to find, who if they find them, will direct them to zones they don't know how to find. Asking about this in Help gets them laughed at, of course.

    - No travel power; they haven't needed one. Now getting to the next mission is sloooow. "Air Superiority is a travel power, right?" And when they get there, the xps are slooow. And the Boss is tough, because...

    - Pool Powers: Lots of DfBabies ignore taking more attacks or shields because they don't need them and can't use them. They take Leadership or other powers that sound cool because why not, having no idea when a situation is when they will be useful.

    - No Inspirations: Sure, they have them, but have never used them. They won't even have the tray up, so they won't use them when needed. They have no idea that a heal is just sitting there waiting for them, let alone something that has a subtle effect like accuracy or defense.

    - No Enhancements: No idea what to do even if you direct them to the enhancement screen, let alone that these are loot drops, that they can use some and not others, that they are more powerful than Gear in other games. That they can be bought or sold. That they wear out.

    - Cannot get teams. Because everyone else is DfB-ing, because

...so you step out of fun, fast, Death from Below into this wierd, noisy yet silent world where you can't find teammates, Bosses are tougher than the Arch Villains you just fought, there is no loot, getting anywhere is slow, and there are buildings and chasms between you and your next 'quest' where you will be told you are too high level and sent to someone else you can't find.

    ...

Twinshot and Doctor Graves do not help with this.

You level past them, and even if you don't, they don't teach you how to get teams and their intro missions are almost devoid of xp. At least they do teach you that there are such things as glowies you sometimes need to find and to read dialogue.

    ...

    Here is my suggestion:

During the Tutorial, you need to be given a choice before zoning into Atlas/Mercy; go to Twinshot/Doctor Graves for training in how to use your powers, move around the world, etc or go to DfB for training in Raiding.

When you hit EXIT to exit DfB, you should be given the choice of training missions again.

Even better would be a choice that directed you to a series of demos/cut scenes that directly showed you how to use the UI, explained about travel powers, Enhancements, stores, the Market, etc. But that will take time.

    ...

    SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE

Naturally anything that is done will create lots of angry players who will ragequit the game (most of whom are free or preem so the bean counters won't notice, but it is still bad for the game).

The current situation is no way to retain Freems, let alone get them to VIP up.

As it is, they are going to DfB to 50, then go charging headlong Leeroy style into the first Raid they can find because they can LFG up for it. And this is without a clue as to Ouroboros, the Alpha Slot, etc which they can't get because they are still Freem aaaaghh ra54gequit.
Honestly, most of those just sound like simple "new player" problems more than specific "(Activity-we-don't-approve-of-this-week)-baby" issues, to me.

Maybe you came into the game knowing how all the systems worked, how to build a character, which power picks were "good", and where to find everything, but I know I sure didn't... I had to ask a lot of questions that I'm sure the vet players considered stupid, because to them the answers seemd obvious. Even if they weren't. o_0

I'm more inclined to blame their situation on the so-called tutorial and "on-going training missions" we have now in-game being awful. They don't really address the things new players need to know in any timely or even particularly informative way... So we're in a situation now where, DFB trial or not, we've got a lot of people running around with no clue how things work.

Doing the DfB and nothing BUT the DfB for their first X-number of levels certainly isn't going to help any, but I don't think it can be blamed entirely. Even if these players ignored the thing completely they'd still have awfully wide gaps in their knowledge of the game.

It does if you're trying to use the "MM" part of MMO to justify a "Team or else!" point of view. If you're going to do that, you don't get to selectively insist on that bit while tossing out the "RP".

... And all that about role-playing just by logging in? Not quite. I'm sure the role-players over on Union or Virtue would have a few things to say about your definition.

    Not a thing.

I just have a female character who'd look good in a pilgrim hat, and the way the costume people work around here it would end up being made a male-only costume piece if the they also had a bonnet (Which would, in turn, be made female-only, of course-).

I'd prefer to avoid that. <_<
  12. An itty-bitty, miniature War Walker pet in the same size/scale as the tiny Vanguard mech we already have in-game.

Praetorians deserve to have adorable chibi robots of doom and destruction of their own.
  13. Will I still be around when the City goes dark?
Maybe... I'm pretty attached to most of my characters, and I know I'd miss playing around with them if I were to leave the game. That said, I can still imagine a few things the devs could do, and a few directions they could go, that would make things so miserable or annoying for me that I *would* eventually say to heck with it all, in spite of my affection for Pally and company. I really hope it never comes to that, but you never know. The future is uncharted territory.

    Will I stay VIP?
Probably... I have a lot of alts (I have something like 40 characters in all, now. Not a huge collection by some players' standards, but pretty extensive in terms of my own.) and it would be very hard for me to pick and choose who I had access to and who I had to abandon. I'd also miss the Incarnate toys most of my 50s have, and running some of the trials. I don't like all of the current incarnate system, and I could certainly go back to playing without it if I had to... But it's fun to have Palrah throwing his Pyro Judgement at piles of goons, and Kestrel can *never* have too much Recharge.

Because if they do that, the bonnet will be the only option female characters get. They wouldn't get the regular hat. <_<
  15. I really wanted a puppy.

You guys are planning on giving us those [Wolf Pets] some day, right? Or did you just put the description in-game to tease us? Because that would be evil.
  16. Maybe we'll get a puppy.

(Getting that [Wolf Pet] would be fun...)

In that case, I run away, then come back a few seconds later (with the goal that I don't lose aggro completely).

If you can't/don't do these things, I can see there being a problem. I always did them, and had no problem.

This can't just be "experience", because my UGT experience is mostly on melees and it's contrary to yours with respect to how dangerous the Avatar is to melee characters.
I wondered how long it would take someone to post a "LRN2PLAYUNOOB" response...

With the Walkers, the problem is, as others have already mentioned, seeing the effects. I certainly move away when I'm the target... I'm not an idiot... But that's no help when I'm not the target myself, and the person who *is* either doesn't notice or doesn't know what to do about it. In a large group all with their special effects going, there's just no good way to dodge a situation like that. It isn't like avoiding getting ringed in BAF or staying clear of the green patches in Keyes.

That said, the War Walkers could potentially be less of a problem than the Avatar as far as melee goes. If everyone was paying attention, they could be dealt with pretty easily I suspect.

The Avatar is a much bigger pain in the rear. Like the war walkers, I've never been able to pick out its effects in that room. With everything else going on and the room's own ambient effects, I doubt I ever will. Again, I know I can move away from the group or behind it if I need to... but I can't avoid someone else who doesn't know what's happening. And yeah, it can be a pain trying to stay behind him. The thing is way too fond of spinning in place. <_<

Add to that problems with finding Des quickly, and a confussion effect that's so over to top it's just silly and it gets messy fast. Even if you manage to avoid being confussed yourself (Which I only managed on my PB due to his Clarion. The WP tank and the stalker didn't have that advantage on their own. They had to rely on team-mates, which wasn't always for the best-), there's always someone who won't be so lucky, or will get caught outside the Clarion and end up smacking you in the back of the head with a Fire Ball. If not a Pyre Judgement.

If you have no problem with any of that... that's nice. You've obviously been very lucky and you're a far more Uber player than I am. But your experience is far from universal. I know I'm not the only one who's had a much more difficult time with melee characters on this trial. The comments in these threads are more than enough to prove that.

Somehow I doubt all of us with similar complaints are noobs who don't know what they're doing.

I know one of Kestrel's many deaths during our Avatar battle was from someone else's Judgement, and one of our fire blasters nearly killed her again with his snipe attack. o_0

I've run the UG four times now... twice on my favorite WP tank, once with my older Peacebringer and most recently with my favorite stalker. Each time it was done with an experienced leader and a reasonably solid league. All three of my characters are +3 full Incarnates.

Three of those four attempts failed... One on the second war walker, two on the Avatar. Being a melee type each time, I can tell you exactly where that "Melee is suicide" idea comes from... Simple experience. When your tank is getting one-shotted by effects you can neither see nor avoid every time you get close to the AVs, you learn to wish you'd brought a blaster. My poor stalker had it even worse. I think I managed to actually survive long enough to attack the Avatar exactly twice this afternoon. Kestrel died within a few seconds every time I got close to it.

That's really the only part of the system that bothers me. Once a name is taken, it's more or less gone for good... even if the player who has it leaves, never to return or play that character again.
