With that in mind, would you let the old base system go completely for better features?

    S.
As fond as I am of my Elysion base, I would give it up for a better design system. But then, I don't have vast amounts of time invested in complex stacking with it... It's a relatively simple design that I know I could re-create. That probably colors my response.

I'm nt sure I'd be willing to give up any of my characters themselves just to get revamped versions of their powersets, and as for completely dumping their old costumes to re-build the character creator... I'm not sure about that, either. I'd hate to lose some of the "legacy" costumes a few of my crew wear. (The wings+wedding tails-coat combination in particular... Which I know any new system wouldn't give us back. )

    Nope.

My Stalkers go right past them without so much as a "Hey, what was that?" all the time. Banes likewise. They can't see through Hide.

The only things that see my sneaky types routinely are KoA, Overseers and Rikti Drones. Occasionally an AV or Monster will notice them, too (Rikti drop-ships will see you through Hide if you stay near them for too long, for instance... and for some reason Positron is VERY prone to spotting them in my experience. It's hard to get the drop on that guy. )

For what it's worth, I refuse to take my blue-side main through the Underground trial any more... He's a reasonably well-engineered WP/DB tank with and IO set-build, T4 Barrier, Alpha and Judgement, and T3 Lore and Interface.

I've successfully thrown him at just about everything else in the game, but he still gets eaten alive by the Underground AVs and their effects... It's just painful to try to play him through that mess. So, your "paper brute" isn't alone.

Indeed. That one's a bit rough on everybody...

I'd also add Underground as another one where it makes some sense to wait until you've got a shift or two. Having run through that one a fair few times now with various types of leagues, it's a sad truth that having shifted characters can boost a group's chances of success by a lot. The difference between a heavily-shifted group and a lightly/non-shifted one on that trial is... well, it's probably much more accute than it ought to be, to be honest... It's like night and day.
  9. I love my Peacebringers... That alone probably says everything I need to about where my "style vs. power" preferences fall.
  10. I'm not a "hard core" gamer... I don't have the coordination or reflexes for twitch-play or the interest in number-crunching it takes to be a serious min/maxer. I honestly don't care all that much about challenge, complex zero-room-for-error raid tactics, or having the most UberLeet, over-engineered toon on my server. For the most part, I just like jumping into casual raids with friends, or doing my own thing at my own pace as a solo, in a duo or with a small team. I'm not the least bit bothered by "OMG! Everything is Easy Mode!!11!" Most MMOs (and video games in general-) aren't designed for people with my mindset. At least parts of this one are.

Being an old-school, tabletop RPG player, I also get very attached to my characters as individuals. I like playing them through the City world, interacting with it and with other characters. I'm a very casual "in-game" role-player at best, but it's still fun on an internal level to think about how Kes or Pally or Shade would react to some of the people and situations they encounter.

    And yeah... They can fly.

How can you not love that?

There's still a learning curve involved with this one, so it may be awhile before everyone likely to be running it is reasonably comfortable with what to do, when and how... But I do think we'll get to that point eventually. It's just going to take time.

As for those bombs, as fond as I am of running my Kheldians through the Underground, if we're seriously going to aim for that badge next time I may bring Keiranen (Archery/Energy Blaster with a T4 core Cardio Alpha, Boost Range and a snipe attack) to the party instead. He's got Rebirth rather than Clarion and has a narrower range of abilities than a Peacebringer over-all, but on that final batch of bombs, he could come in handy. I know he can hit them from well outside their trigger range.

Yep. The pacifist Oranbegans are the only "good" alternate earth I could think of... And as Jophiel said, the Hydra are described as peaceful when they aren't being harassed by the Rikti.

Finished up Sola's T4 Clarion finally, so now I don't have to feel like the league's slacker who only brought a T3.

    See you tonight.

Same... Maybe it makes me terribly rude, but I've just never seen leveling as that big a deal. We all do it eventually, so I don't feel like it's something that requires special recognition.

    Comic Relief

That brain-in-a-jar made me giggle like you wouldn't believe when I saw it. I love that thing. (And I made a brand new Mad-Scientist-turned-powered-armor-cyborg just to get to use it! )

The brain slug must also happen. And it must be recolorable. I need it in pink, see. (It would make a *great* stand in for Squiggles. Ty'ree's pet regenerating flesh... Yes, I have a character who keeps a piece of regenerating flesh as a pet. <_< Yes, she's nuts.)

Aside from those, I really want a rubber chicken weapon for my Mace tank, and chef's knives or a meat cleaver for my sword-users. I would also love to have a "thrown pie"/"hit by thrown pie" emote or temp power set.

You can't tell me a City version of The Great Race's pie fight wouldn't be a glorious and silly thing.

ETA: Also, a chef's hat and coat. I really need to make Bakesman (Heroic pastry-master of Iron Chef earth)someday...

Uhm... 'Just saying here... Not all of us who want other options for our female characters have moral objections to the sexy bits. We're just asking for something different for our own use, not telling you that you have to dress your own toons like librarians.
  19. Good news on the ATIO front. Thanks for that, guys...

And for what it's worth, I do think shifting the rando-pack "exclusive" costume bits to the regular market after awhile is the best route to go with those. You get to sell packs to the impatient people and the bargain-hunters who know they have good luck that way, as well as making money from those of us who love costume bits but *also* know exactly how much the RNG hates our guts.
  20. As I said in the other thread, I really don't think male and female sets need to be 100% the same... It's not a bad thing to have at least some pieces that are different... The trouble comes from making the sets COMPLETELY different and from the *kind* of female peices you guys have choosen to include.

It wouldn't bother me at all to get a Judy Jetson dress and girly-hair for my gals instead of a comic-strip Buck Rogers jumpsuit and buzz-cut in the Retro Space set. It would bother me if all they got was a foil bikini and go-go boots. o_0

  22. I've been playing around with the new female pieces this morning, just to see what I could do with them that *didn't* look like a Hollywood wild west call-girl, and while I did come up with some interesting looks it was much harder to use some of the bits than it ought to have been.

    Why?

In a few cases, the models simply don't fit my character properly. I ran into placement problems with the regular belt, the new top and the corset on the Unquiet Bride, who has a fairly slight build and relatively small breasts. While they were somewhat better on Li'nai, who's both more muscular and... err... "better endowed", lets say ... the fit was still oddly off. Someone really needs to give these pieces another look, to correct the placement and fit if nothing else.

I love the bustle. I'll just come right out and say that... I love it and I was looking forward to using it, the new hair, the lace neck-piece and the bow with veil on the Bride. It very much fits her general "look", after all... But I ended up completely unable to use it. I just flat-out could *NOT* get it to look good with anything I wanted to pair it with.

The pre-tinting and the stripes are beyond obnoxious when you try to color the piece white.

(This is what I ended up with for the Bride, by the way.

It did use the bow, top and neck piece even if the bustle didn't work out. She looks a little like loli-bait, I'm afraid... which is a whole different can of worms. People are going to start accusing Nemissary of being a perv at this rate. o_0)

I won't pretend to speak for all female players... or even for the majority of them. I can only speak for myself.

That being said, while I really have nothing AGAINST the skimpy outfit pieces we've been given on principle, they're absolutely not my first choice when it comes to outfitting a female character and I do like to have other options available. The more "mix and match" we can do between types, the better, since I do a lot of that in my designs, even when I do go for the bits that show more skin.

Shade in Shadow, for instance, has this outfit. Black leather mini-shirt, fishnets, completely impractical boots and the Syndicate corset. It's a very sexy combination to my eye, but like I said upthread, I still think she looks pretty bad-*** in it, and I like that... But it isn't her primary "signature" costume or my favorite of the ones she has. This is. Still very feminine, still pretty bad-***, but much more conservative... You aren't likely to mistake her for a guy in that outfit, but at the same time you aren't likely to mistake her for a stripper, either.

Corsets and such are fine, and do have their place in the costume editor, but I like to see the kind of pieces in Shade's primary outfit, too. I loved the Martial Arts sets... they're far and away the pieces I've gotten the most use out of for my crew. It disappoints me that we don't see sets like that very often, as trapped as the art crew seems to have become in that whole girls-get-sexy/guys-get-cool division of labor thing. That's a change I'd like to see, getting them out of that mind-set.

By all means, make corsets and such sometimes... But don't let that be all you make for the girls. Make enough unisex or more practical pieces to allow some choice for those of us who want it.

    Yays!

As I said in the pre-tinting thread, I like a lot of the more recent costume bits (the Celestial armor, for instance) and I *WANT* to use them... But the tinting keeps getting in the way. When a new bit's colors don't work with the colors of the other items in the editor, it's a loss all around. So... avoiding that gets definite Win Points from me.

As for the rest, more "good stuff across-the-board" sets like the Martial Arts costumes and the CoT bits would definitely be welcomed... The gal's costumes don't have to be 100% identical to the guys', but giving female toons at least similar choices is a Good Thing. It's that whole "Guys get a rockin' coat... You girls get a corset instead"-business that makes people grumpy. Giving us all a rockin' coat solves the issue.

I'm not against corsets on principle... I think Shade looks pretty darn bad-*** in hers... I just like to have other options, too, and that hasn't been happening so much lately. Packs have fallen into this guy-stuff/girl-stuff division that doesn't leave a lot of room for cross-over pieces, and I think taking a step or two back from that might help a lot.
  25. Looking at my crew... It has to be Willpower (easily the most common power-set among my characters-), followed closely by Dual Blades and the various flavors of Dark.
