I understand the need for a little more attention via general discussion but this may be better served on one of the server boards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Usually yes, but we're trying to get as many non-PvPer's as poss.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you make a post with more specific details (what time, what server, how often, etc) and drop me a mail, I'll happily put a news story about it on the website(s).
  2. The Creative Genius for December 2006 is Nightsparrow for the amazing:

    Nightsparrow's Scrapbook

(Please note that the Scrapbook contains occasional references to strong language and mature themes, and so may not be suitable for younger players.)

    Congratulations, Nightsparrow.
  3. Guys, as I've said many times before, it is perfectly possible to disagree with someone's idea without aiming comments at them as a person. Likewise, someone disagreeing with your idea does not, in and of itself, qualify as a personal attack on you, and does not need to be treated as one.

If everyone tries to remember this and act accordingly, these boards will become a much more pleasant place for all of us.
  4. Thanks for your nominations, everyone - the winner will be announced this week.
  5. Okay, guys, can we try to drag this back up to a more civil level, please?

It's perfectly possible to disagree with each other's opinions without being quite so, ah, 'prickly' about it.

    Thanks.

Can we have a clarification here Bridger, does the piece of work have to be on the Creative Forums or can it be in a more suitable area of the board? Given all other restraints of course.

    [/ QUOTE ]
There needs to have been a post of some kind made on the Creative Board in the relevant month, in order for the work to be 'entered' into the competition (third rule of nominations, in the original post).
  7. [ QUOTE ]
    Friday 19th January, surely?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    D'oh.

    Fixed now.
  8. A little later than usual because of the holidays, but it's time for December's Creative Genius nominations!

Please use this thread to nominate submissions for the Creative Genius award for the month of December 2006.

Please bear in mind that we've recently updated the guidelines for the Creative board and the Creative Genius competition - you can read them here.

These nominations will remain open until 6pm GMT on Friday 19 January. The winner will be announced in the following week.

To nominate a submission, please post a link to the appropriate post.

There are some important rules to bear in mind when making nominations:
<ul type="square">[*]You may only nominate one submission. If you nominate more than one submission, only the first one will count.[*]You may not nominate your own submissions.[*]Nominated submissions must have been originally posted to this board during December 2006.[*]All original submissions first posted to these boards in December 2006 are eligible for nomination, regardless of what form they take.[*]Only nominated submissions will be considered for the Creative Genius award.[*]If no nominations are received, there will be no Creative Genius award for December 2006.[*]If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please post them to The Creative Board and Creative Genius. This thread should only be used for nominations, and any off-topic posts will be removed.[/list]Happy nominating!
  9. Stickying this for now, but please try to keep it on-topic and factual. Thanks.

    PS: Who won this month?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Has not been announced. Probably lots of long novels/art to read/look through from Nov before deciding.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it took us a while to get through everything.

Nominations for December will open at the start of January, 2007!

And I am going to remember to lock the thread this time.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I read it, but quickly started getting disturbing and distracting pictures in my head

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Enough now, please.
  12. The Creative Genius for November 2006 is Blackdove for both proposing and completing the Artist Challenge:

    [Artist Challenge] - Blackdove's pictures

    Congratulations, Blackdove.
  13. Locking this now - sorry for the delay, it's taken me a long while to work through all the excellent nominations this month.

Gonna be a tough one to choose a winner for, as nearly every nomination would deserve to win in a 'normal' month.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Bridger, can I get a clarification? Is it the one that gets the most nominations, or do you look at each nominated piece and decide for yourselves the best?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The latter - the number of nominations isn't important.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
The point of this rambling is that, PvP has always been a hot potato and to be honest i dont think there will ever be a happy medium. but is there any real need for some of the more personnal criticisms that i see reading these forums day in day out?

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, there isn't, and I would ask all of you to report any posts of this nature to me immediately. You can drop me an email with a link, or better yet, just click the 'Notify Moderator' icon (third icon in the 'Post Extras' section at the bottom of each post).

I dislike trying to decipher nearly unreadable posts,

    [/ QUOTE ]
And you are perfectly free to feel this way.

I would, however, ask that you not criticise other posters' use of English on these boards. It serves no useful purpose, and frequently derails threads or leads to flaming.

    Thanks.

    Any SGs around?

I'm assuming you're looking for a heroic SG, and am moving this to Defiant - Heroes. If you actually want a villain SG, drop me a mail and I'll move it again.
  19. Bridger_EU

    Stereotyping?

Not sure where this idea comes from, but it's certainly not how I play my Tankers.

Attacks not only trigger Gauntlet on the target and any nearby enemies, they also do damage. The more damage you've done to a critter, the more aggro you generate and the quicker the team can defeat it.

It's a balancing act, of course, as you need to make sure that you're using your attacks to peform your primary role in the team (which will normally be to protect the other members by taking the hits yourself).

In my opinion, though, a Tanker that doesn't attack is making his job harder, not easier, and isn't contributing as much to the team as one that dishes out damage as well as holding aggro.

Your mileage may vary, of course.
  20. I've just had to remove a fair chunk of this thread.

Please don't hijack threads where people are tring to organise a play session to express your opinions about the style of play they are organising.

If you genuinely feel that the dozens of previous threads discussing people's opinions and feelings about power levelling haven't covered the subject completely enough, feel free to start a new thread about the subject.

    Thanks.
  21. The Creative Genius for October 2006 is Sar for the adventures of Eat Electric Death in Fury 101: The Brute Chronicles:

    Fury 101: The Brute Chronicles

    Congratulations, Sar.
  22. Stickying this out of respect for the effort that's going into the challenge.

Why should other players have to stop playing just because you want the badges? The whole point in having Statesman and Co spawning is to help the Heroes 'win' the zone.

You have to work around them, not the other way around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At the end of the day it's called "Consideration for others", just because the zone was designed for PvP doesn't give you the right to be an idiot about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please explain how using the zone for it's intended purpose is being an idiot?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I have to say I'd like to see that one explained as well.

Consideration for others goes both ways. Is it considerate of others to expect PvP players in a PvP zone not to engage in the type of gameplay they enjoy and that the zones were designed for?

As I have said before, PvP zones are just that - PvP zones. If you do not wish to engage in combat with other players, please do not consent to PvP by choosing to enter these zones. If you do consent to PvP by choosing to enter these zones and are engaged in combat, please do not criticise the players involved - they are only doing what the zones are designed for and what you consented to by entering the zone.

Awww, we almost got them all. Pity Synapse didn't show and then someone decided to show up and sabotage a planned and announced event on the forum.
Not going to name names, you know who you are. Nice of you, when you have the badges, to go and spoil other people attempts to get them. Really classy. But then, what can one expect from PvPers?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Please don't criticise PvP players for PvPing in a PvP zone. It's what they're for.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but everyone should remember that everyone else has an opinion too and it's not always going to be the same.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wanted to sig that, but I've run out of characters .

    I DEMAND A DATAMINE!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The US forums have a 300 character limit. We used to have a 300 character limit on the COV side of the forums and a 200 character limit on the COH side. They upgraded the software (or something) and chose to have a common limit of 200 characters on the EU side.

The US get 300. We get 200.

Personally I think we have reason for complaint.

Edit: I've just sent Bridger an e-mail asking about the difference in signature limits.

    [/ QUOTE ]
And, as I explained in response, I was not aware that the limits were different. I'll get it sorted out - they should be the same.
