I've heard good things about most of them (especially Broadsword and Dark melee) but I'm not sure which one has the hgihest DPS.
Like Bill Z said, Fire is the top dog for Single Target DPS.

However, that said, there are others that can get up their and be competitive.

Seeing as how even with Fire Melee, you're not going to be soloing GMs, and single target DPS builds tend to favor soloing those AVs, and seeing as how you don't seem to have a perticular concept you're going for...I might suggest the new Kinetic Melee.

Stack that -dmg for added defense!

Dark Melee, has the -tohit and self heal in Siphon Life, but it also has the need to be surrounded for Soul Drain.

Also, Martial Arts with it's recent buffs is up their in the damage.
  2. Lots of RP SGs out there, the secret is finding one that fits your style, and with some of them possibly the theme of your toon.

Some are more light RP, missions others. Others have actualy base RP. Some may have RP but no consequences others might want to go for consequences. Some will put RP over leveling/actually doing missions.

If you have a certain concept in mind, people may be able to point you in certain directions.
  3. My suggestion...kill all on the map, don't take short cuts, and maybe even play it with substandard builds!

Doc Q still tends to take quite a bit of time.

LGTF can take awhile if you kill all instead of letting rescue targets die or teleporting everything about.

    No thanks.

And they don't need to be super powerful. Epic means storyline driven, not HOLYOMGOVERPOWERED.

    Also, this paragraph right here:

So yes, you did suggest an AT that the majority of players won't be able to play.
You know, I really don't see a problem with that. By your very logic, anything that doesn't say "here have it" I can see a lot of people not getting.

What's really wrong with saying "here's an AT but it requires you to PLAY THE GAME"? Pfffft...you don't play the game, you don't get the reward, it's that simple.

Kinda like PvP IOs (well before anyways)...you didn't PvP you likely werent going to get the reward, even if by PvP you farmed it.

This set offers too many ST attacks and with few synergies. The stun can stack reliably from two attacks. One has a kb, one has a chance to provide only mag 2 immb and one has no secondary effect at all and has no extra critical chance like the Scrapper's.

I end up making a MA/Elec Scrapper. MA looks quite strong on Scrapper.
Well, for Stalkers...on reasons to take Martial Arts...

    Storm Kick is great DPS.

Crane Kick and Cobra Strike hit hard.

    Crippling Axe Kick hits harder.

Eagle's Claw may not be the best DPS, but it still packs a big punch.

    Now, all that said...

Skip Thunder Kick and Crane Kick (or Cobra Strike...pick one). That's 2 power choices freed up on an AT that is starving for power slots (imo anyways).

With a high end, PvE build...Storm Kick, CK (or CS) and CAK are the attacks you need, figure you'll take Assassin's Blow as well, and Placate. So you eliminate Eagle's Claw from your build...and TA DA! 3 powers not needed to be taken!

[EDIT: As an aside, I did suggest changing Cobra Strike into a Crane Kick clone, and IT DID HAPPEN. Just saying ]

    Me?

Music. I want to own that CD case!
Movies. Dammit! I want my DVD/Blu-Ray Case!
Book. I want to own it and hold it in my hands.

Store it on your computer, and then it breaks? Okay, so you stored it on some website built for storing all your stuff! YAY! Long time downloading all you own back onto your new system!

I still grab my thesaurus from off the shelf more often than going to thesaurus.com
  8. I'm wondering where this vets not teaming with newb mentality is.

I haven't done it. I haven't seen anyone do it.

I still see some "We need this or that to run this TF" but none of this "no newbies" thing.

That said, I actually prefere CS's recharge Build Up on a crit, more than what would have likely happened if they didn't go that route was do the Total Focus...only part crit.

So far, haven't gotten more than 3 straight crits on CS...but when that happens, that's a lot of time spent in BU

Haven't bothered stacking it though, figuring it's better to use an attack than waste BU time on another BU animation.
  10. Best fix for Stalker Martial Arts imo...

    Drop Thunder Kick...

    Storm Kick
    Crippling Axe Kick
    Cobra Strike
    Assassin's Blow
    Build Up
    Placate
    Dragon's Tail
    Crane Kick
    Eagle's Claw

...Give Storm Kick an alternate animation of Thunder Kick and TA DA \o/

Then give DT the Burst treatment of always critting from hide.

    The Party Pack

Hmmm...is it just emotes? I mean okay fine, have to buy them. I don't see this selling to well personally...not for 7.99.

I know quite a few people who lack the other major packs, so I can't picture them buying this pack first.

And is it just the two dance emotes from GR Beta, or is it more?

    Veteran Rewards

If you think they're a waste of time, you could just not unlock them.

I unlocked the Nemesis Staff on one toon, because I thought my MA/SHIELD would have the staff (I dont look at it as a Nemesis Staff).

I don't need these vet powers when leveling up as it is. They're bonuses, nothing more. And none of the bonuses are going to be that earth shattering.

Except for the Belly Tees! I was asking for those LONG before vet rewards were introduced, and when I saw they were going to be vet rewards, I was thankful I was going to get them right off the bat

Now those are the real vet rewards, the costume pieces! Poor poor new people.

If I recall (its been awhile) they give a really nice chunk of added xp at the end of missions, but you only get that extra xp every 30mins if memory serves.

I used to run them solo all the time on my Fire/Fire Tanker (after the burn nerf and before the recent Fire Armor changes) for good xp (I was set at Unyielding difficulty at the time).

    Longer Buffs

I've played Force Field (not to 50), Thermal Radiation (to 50), Cold Domination (not to 50), and Sonic Resonance (not to 50), and Kinetics (not to 50).

I'll tell you now, out of all those buffs sets, the only one I think needs to have it's duration increase is Kinetic's Speed Boost, to a 4 minute duration. As I just don't care for buffing the team every 2 mins. Every 4 mins and I'm golden!

In all those times I've played those sets, the only time I feel the need to buff other peoples pets is 1) When I feel like it OR 2) Right before we pounce on an AV.

If you want to buff every single pet on the team all the time, that's not the sets problem, that's yours. And personally, I've never been on a team with any toon with pets that looked at me and said "Hey! Shield my pets!"

That said, out of all those shielders, only the Thermal did more pet buffing than anything else, as Elec/'s damage just felt so weak, I felt like I was doing more keeping the pets shielded than going about blasting.

Since the Devs have been considering allowing Crossovers for years (even well before CoV was finished) you'd think that they would've thought about that and named all ATs in this game using more alignment-neutral names from the start.

But now that the proverbial damage is done I -don't- think these ATs should be renamed. It'd be weird for only a few names to change (for any reason) so late in the game and it'd really only open the door for people to whine about the other names for even less reasonable reasons.

I would chalk this idea up to "It'd be nice on some level, but ultimately isn't really justified" all things considered.
I'd say it'd be better to have all the text removed from the game, that would make it sound like the AT names are part of the in game lore (which a lot of RPers, and thusly the only one's who'd really care, even if they're just RPing their toon in their mind as they play and not group RPing, tend to ignore anyways).

If contact whoever, didn't say "So you're a Defender/Tanker/Scrapper/ect" and people just realized the name of the AT is just that, a name for an AT so people know who they're teaming with and a general idea of their capabilities.

After seeing Dual-Pistol I think it is very easy to make martial arts look more artsy, and fantasy looking. I understand we have the new customization for martial arts it was ummm....Meh! I would like to see faster animation for martial arts make the kicks look snapping quick, this is a comic book game. I would love to see a flurry of Kicks add to MA, or how about making a brute version of martial arts make it total different from the scrapper and stalker version. It seems because this is a superhero comic game, martial arts isn't that superior in the states or the UK. In other Asiatic countries in there comics martial arts is superior as well as super strength, and psionic etc.. I could careless if martial arts is on top like said this is an Superhero game based on American style comes, but I wish Dev would make Martial arts a flashy, artsy, or fantasy fell to it.

    MA for Brutes

    Example:

Storm kick - hit multiple enemies surrounding the player.

crippling axe kick- causes a thunderous knockdown effect to all enemies in the area leaving a massive crack in the ground.

How about giving us a Melee martial art weapon powerset with staffs, Tonfa, or Nunchuks so want to make a ninja turtle character HHALAOL!!!
I have to say, I actually love the way Martial Arts is setup now.

The only reason I'd see to give Storm Kick the cone treatment is because of the animation. However I personally wouldn't want it changed to a cone, as it'd lose it's single target damage to make up for the fact that it can hit multiple enemies.

Martial Arts is a very single targeted oriented set, and I see no reason to change it because of that (now that its had major improvements).

If a single target oriented set is not your cup of tea, play a different set (Energy Melee and Dark Melee are other single targeted oriented sets you may want to avoid).

As for the animations, while I hope to see more added and in fact, some of Martial Arts animations ported to the Elemental sets, personally the only animation I find BLEH, is Crippling Axe Kick's.

Even the alternate punch animation doesn't seem to flow right. However the rest of the animations...Ooooo. I keep hoping they'll give Crane Kick the alternate animation of Cobra Strike's original animation, as it looks like it could easily have a knockback effect to it.

As for it being purely smashing damage, I see no problem with that.
  17. I'm going to suggest playing a Dominator. Yes, you're limited to redside untill you get GR, however, I do find Dominators to be one of the most balanced ATs around (imo anyways) in terms of Offense and Defense.

Dominations gives you limited mez protection (or perma mez protection if you build for it), with defense being your controls! If you can stack actual defense and resist onto your Dominator even better!

With all that said, I might suggest Plant/Fire or Plant/Earth.

Now me suggesting Plant/ is from very limited play (I've gotten to level 20), but lots of teaming with them. I just find their confuse VERY VERY team friendly. I want to cry when I see a Plant/ (troller or dom) not take Seeds of Confusion.

/Fire will give you lots of damage, while /Earth is just wicked fun. Not to mention Plant/'s single target hold, combined with /Earth's single target hold for when Domination isn't up (or for when Domination is up and you're fighting AVs )

    Ninja Run??

Actually, while I understood not allowing NR to stack with SS/SJ make since to me, I never understood why it couldn't stack with CJ, and really think it should.

After all, CJ stacks with Super Speed.

NR not stacking with CJ is the only thing that I hate about it. As I love to keep NR toggled on my Scrapper while fighting, because jumping about, doing backflips while fighting is just FUN! And I'd like to beable to use my CJ for added defense while I do so!

That said, I learn to live with it, much like not being able to use Hover on my Fire/Earth Dominator since Hover stops me from using some of the powers. :/

As has been explained, you don't need Power Siphon to get the -DMG effect. The -DMG effect is part of the attacks. Power Siphon, turns all those attacks that give -DMG, to -DMG and +DMG attacks.

That said, of course it's fair! It's just a different mechanic. If you don't like it, don't play it, it's really that simple.

Or if you want the front loadedness of Build Up, play the Stalker version. I'm rather enjoying mine personally.

    ^^This...

In RP, I wouldn't use the AT names, and in RP, I wouldn't say my hero with a sword is beheading the enemies!

They're names to signify to the players who's what, and nothing more.

I think you are vastly overestimating how long it takes to acquire and complete Tip Missions. From logging on, I will have my first Tip within a couple of minutes, and probably have that mission completed within another 5, rinse and repeat. Around 30-40 minutes for all Tip plus Alignment, then about 90 minutes to get 50 Merits. If I choose to do less efficient tfs/arcs it might take a little longer, but that's on me.

Like I said, if I had to earn another 20m inf, it would take another hour tops, so 3 hours. This is not supposition or theory, it is my actual play experience.

My whole premise is, shouldn't someone be able to achieve the same result that I do in 3 days of playing 2 hours /day(6 hours total), by playing one day for 6 hours? It seems pretty simple to me.

So what you're saying is, it's unfair for the person who plays 6 hours on one day a week, to not get what the person who plays 2 hours a day, 3 days a week.

And that it's unfair because the person who plays 2 hours a day, 3 days a week, is going to end up making more hero merits.

Eh. So what? They'll both get there, and the one playing 6 hours a day gets to go off and do other things, while the one who's playing 2 hours a day is locked into doing the runs needed to earn them.

Frankly, the casual player shouldnt be worring what the non-casual player does, as they can get everything the other wants, just takes a bit of time. And even then, the IOs arent needed to play anyways...they're just extremely nice.

And all the toggles drain end at a fast rate so you are constantly sucking wind and needing to rest. At least with Regen you get Quick Recovery at level 4 and the only toggle is Integration which lets you keep attacking at a good rate.

While I would pull groups with willpower I was much more confident wading in with regen.

Of course with my current builds I really didn't have much chance to try out much more than the second and third attacks in Kinetic Melee as I wanted to get my defenses up and then travel powers and Stamina, etc. I like AoE attacks and look forward to getting Burst.

I find the animations for Kinetic a bit too long but the stun effects are nice.
Did you not get that WP over level 28? Did you not grab Tough and Weave? I'm not saying Regen isn't a good set, but when you say "Dam Res. is not helping, you just die." I have to wonder where was all you're defenses?

WP is a Regen, +HP, Resist, Defense set that is OMG :O

Put IOs into the mix and it can becomes even better.

As it is, yes, it's kind of silly thematically because why would anyone sit there and watch you wave your hands around instead of using that awkward pause to kick you in the sack? A Kinetic Blast set with the same exact animations would be pretty great.
