Veteran Rewards

Am I the only one who see's the Vet rewards of the Black Wand, Nemisis Staff and the Sands of Mu Vet powers to be utterly useless? I waste more end on these abilities then I do anything else. Between the three of these powers I hit maybe 30% of the time out of 100%

Is this really how were thanked for playing, Thank you for playing this long here is a power that drains your end faster then 8 toggles running?

Come on they need to be fixed. I don't even use them anymore cause they are a waste of End.

Come on Devs fix these so atleast they work half the time and do somewhat better damage.

Agreed with Techbot.

These powers are great in the lower levels, and aren't supposed to replace actual attacks that you get from your powersets. ANY global +ToHit or +Acc bonuses that you get from other powers or set bonuses will increase their chance to hit (which is the standard 75% against an even-level enemy without defense), and their damage is already high because you can't enhance it.

They are good for what they are, an extra free attack regardless of level and AT.

Yes.

They're freebies. They're not meant to be overpowering. And you forgot the Ghost Slaying Axe (which has been a help to some of my Dark-using characters versus resistant ghost-types.)

Herostats, by the way, will track the accuracy for all powers - including the Vet powers. Pulling up a few characters, I see 90-95% accuracy on one of my lowbies, for instance.

Pick it up, run it, look at what's really happening.

These Vet attack powers are very good for filling the niche they were designed for.
They are not meant to be uber-weapons that everyone relies on as primary attack powers.

They help low level characters fill up their weak attack chains. They help various ATs fill gaps in the kinds of attack powers they have (such as giving a non-melee AT a melee power like Sands of Mu). They provide certain extras (like the Nem Staff's Knockback) that some ATs otherwise lack.

Basically by the time you're a fully slotted level 50 character your base powersets should be providing everything you need to do well. Do you really need Vet powers by that time? No not really, but that does not make them "utterly useless". Bottomline the Vet attacks are great at lower levels but become progressively less important towards level 50. If they were any better than that everyone would use them regardless of their native powersets and non-Vets would be at a severe disadvantage until they got them.

When you assess Vet awards you have to pretty much assume they will never be overpowering or ultimately better than what players can achieve without them. Often they help in ways that are not quite as tangible at first glance.

Actually my Superstrength characters LOVE Sands of Mu and the Nemmy Staff.

Both "Temporary" powers are unaffected by damage buffs. So when you're up high on Rage, dishing out big hits for a minute or two of +80% damage they don't get the buff.

But when rage Crashes and your damage hits -9999% they are also unaffected, allowing the Superstrength character to continue dishing out damage during that 10 second crash and burn period...

I also find the nemesis staff incredibly useful on pretty much any and all "Squishy" characters, who use it as a powerful single target KB power, then fight at range...

And let's not forget the utility of an AoE ToHit debuff on multiple enemies in melee combat or, if you go with the Ghost Slaying axe, a 2-shot kill on Spectral Demons in the CoT (one of the most annoying entities in the game with their enormous and quick to stack ToHit debuff and high smashing/lethal resistance)

And they're all incredibly useful when you've had your recharge speed reduced to next to nothing. Just a "Filler" attack until your regular powers recharge.

Ultimately I find all of the powers very useful except for the Blackwand, in most case. But that's because the Nemesis staff is Steampunked out >.>

Actually the blackwand has 2 very specific cases where it's superior to the Nem staff. Since the blackwand is all negative energy damage it deals quite a bit if damage to Statesman and Honoree when they use they're versions of unstoppable.

Yup this. Rage + Sands of Mu is a rather awesome combination and I use it constantly when there's a rage crash.

But... but... Steampuuuuuuuuuunk!

*points to username, avatar, and signature* Steampunk!

In all honesty, though... it's also useful for defense, since it debuffs ToHit. While that's not -as- needed for a softcapped defense build it can help you avoid the negative repercussions of defense debuff cascade failure in some cases.

Your inability to manage your characters endurance is a reflection of your gaming skills, not a flaw in the vet Reward powers.

No. The powers are working exactly as intended.

I'm sorry I think I should have made this abit more clear. I'm on a low level Stalker and when i waste end with the vet rewards it means I can't use my normal attacks.

My 8 toggle comment is refering to my fire tank who runs 8 and doesn't waste anywhere NEAR as much as the vet rewards.

As for the comment to my skills at playing CoH I thought Drama like this was for World of Warcraft. All I said is I feel these are a waste of time. Then again the forum's leave people open to attack from others who have no life.

Simple answer; don't use them. I very rarely use the vet attacks at higher levels, because by that time I have a full attack chain, slotted attacks, stuff that means they have served their purpose and I no longer need them, except in certain circumstance (-recharge, etc)

That last sentence smacks of hypocrisy.

Conversely, when you waste end with your normal attacks, you can't use the Vet rewards.

Again, run Herostats. Then go look at just how much they really ARE hitting, as opposed to "it feels like." Then post your Stalker build, with what your'e normally running - turn off sprint. Hide takes no END. Low level, put in Acc and END reduction before damage. (Saying this as someone with, yes, low level stalkers - who doesn't have an issue with the vet rewards.)

Why is your fire tank running 8 toggles? Fire, Plasma, Blazing aura, CJ, Tough...? Turn off sprint, that wastes plenty of END. Of course, if you're "running 8 toggles," you're also looking at a higher end Fire tank, possibly 50, which has its endurance management built up, as opposed to a low level Stalker which likely doesn't even have Stamina (and no Stalker secondary gives anything like Fast Recovery. Dark Melee gets DC at 18, Energy aura gets energy drain at 28... which doesn't qualify as "low level.")

Only the deranged would claim they're less than vastly helpful at lower levels.

Not quite, but close to it.

I find them useful in the low levels on all characters. When all of your attacks are slotted with TO's or DOs at best, having something that acts like it's slotted with 0 ACC/3 Damage / 0 Recharge / 0 EndRed is still better than nothing, and the "Beginner's Luck" ToHit buff helps out a bit with the Acc.

Like another poster, I find them useful on a SS character (Brute).
I also like Force Bolt (5 slotted, including a Damage Proc) and the Nemmie Staff on my Bots/FF for even more KB fun. Granted, the high end cost of the staff adds up over time, but that's when I'm spamming it, instead of tending to my Bots. So it's my own fault.

If you find no use for these attacks, then I hope you enjoy your other vet rewards, such as the free Vet-specs.

Oh this is just adorable. You openly admit your original post wasn't clear about what you were talking about and in the same breath get huffy about people making assumptions based on your confused complaint.

Memphis Bill pretty much said everything that needs to be said in reply to your latest response.

Although I would add that you should also turn off Ninja Run if you are using it instead of a travel power as that is a huge endurance hog.

I'll grant you the idea that depending on AT, powersets and/or powers chosen that the Vet attack powers might be more or less useful in certain situations. But just because you don't find them useful in your particular situation doesn't mean they might be more useful in others.

Basically it looks like you've taken your one data point (your tactics with your low level Stalker) and decided that since Vet attack powers don't seem to help you that they are fundamentally flawed for everyone and need to be changed. Your weak argument for Vet attack power "improvement" has been what people are questioning. Come up with something better to support your position than "your feelings" and we won't need to pick it apart. The Devs would need some real evidence to prove that the powers are broken and need attention before they'd spend the time to change them. Provide some evidence. *shrugs*

If you think they're a waste of time, you could just not unlock them.

I unlocked the Nemesis Staff on one toon, because I thought my MA/SHIELD would have the staff (I dont look at it as a Nemesis Staff).

I don't need these vet powers when leveling up as it is. They're bonuses, nothing more. And none of the bonuses are going to be that earth shattering.

Except for the Belly Tees! I was asking for those LONG before vet rewards were introduced, and when I saw they were going to be vet rewards, I was thankful I was going to get them right off the bat

Now those are the real vet rewards, the costume pieces! Poor poor new people.

I had an issue with the endurance consumption of them, so I quit using them.

I don't think I've even claimed the vet attacks on my last 10 characters.

But I didn't feel it was worth a forum post complaining that they are useless, because they aren't. They just don't mesh well with my playstyle.

Anyone who complains that something is useless, yet continues to use it, deserves any ridicule they may receive.
