Synchrotron gave a good post on this. However, I'd like to add, that while yes it is locked behind content only a level 50 can do, it only takes you doing that content with one level 50, to have it unlocked for every other character.

Once you've unlocked those trail auras, auras, chest emblems, they're usual by any character you make from levels below 50! And no teaming required.

With of course the exception of Ascension Armor. While unlocked for every character, they're level locked untill 50.

Especially with dominators, corruptors and some offender builds are matching blaster damage and add alot more to add to a team.

I know this is an old argument, but it seems in the new post incarnate enviroment its worse than ever.
Blasters still do more AOE damage (barring certain combinations of course) than any other AT.

Blasters have good ST damage, while melee seems to surpass them (again different combinations can change this) in this area, Blaster imo can reach their best ST DPS easier than melee ATs can.

Mind you, I don't know how much Defiance adds to a Blasters ST DPS, so maybe it helps surpass melee.

Yup, they spend more time faceplanted...unless the team is setup to fix all that! :O

Then they can stay alive and make other damage dealers weep in jealousy!

No seriously, a lot of Blasters make my melees cry! Mind you, some melees make my melees cry too heh

    .
All things comsidered it's not like Scrappers or Brutes are hitting these damage caps on their own (outside of heavy inspiration usage which lasts a minute), and outside of Fire Resist with FA and Energy Resist with ELA, none of them are hitting even 75%+ resist to any of their resists outside of using a tier 9. And none of the tier 9 are going to allow the AT to stay in them full time.

But I say sure! Move the damage cap up on a Tanker!

Personally, I'd rather they add a .5 to the damage modifier for plus damage overall, instead of a raise in damage cap that I'd only see under special circumstances.

Not sure if it would be game breaking or not. But for someone who seems to want a Scrapper level damage Tanker, have you made a FA Tanker?

It was from the start, said to be a Primary for Defenders, and Secondary for Corruptors, Controllers, and Masterminds.

This means you have to make a character starting out with it. Just like with Power Proliferation. You won't beable to respec a Defender into Thermal Radiation or Fire Blast. You will have to make a new character with these abilities.

Hear me out: CoH is incredibly solo friendly from levels 1 -50. just about any player and any AT can solo their way to level 50+1 without ever need ing to join a team. Over the years, the devs went to great lengths to make virtually all regular content scalable for group szes 1 thru 8. They even implemented the difficulty slider to make it even easier. Crafted IO's and IO sets give additional strength and defense to weaker AT's. Almost every big thing they've done for the past 5 years has been to make it possible for any AT to be able to solo their way to max level.

By doing this, the many players who prefer to the solo (or small team) mode of play have come to view CoH as the most solo friendly MMO currently within the top 25. An expectation was set in these players minds that not only did the devs appreciate the value of solo play to many of its customers but that it would not stop providing such content. Nothing was put in wiritng, of course, but the history of and trends in the game's development reinforced those solo players expectations.

Then comes the Incarnate System and its decidedly solo un-friendly content. Suddenly and with very little warning, the solo players found their style of play totally abandoned by the devs and in fact had it "dissed" and insulted with the ridiculous shard conversion requirements for soloing up the Incarnate ladder. With the long established expectations smashed so severely and cold-heartedly, of course, many of the soloing crowd got really upset.

"After so many years of loyalty and committment to our style of play, how could you devs abandon us so completely in the post 50 levels of the game that we were looking forward to with just as great a sense of anticipation as the teaming/raiding crowd was?"

Of course we are upset and angry. Everyone else would be too if their expectations had been crushed in the same way. Just remember, it was the long history of the game that set our expectations. We did not pull them out of thin air or make them up after the fact. Due to how the game had been trending over the past 7 years, prior to I19, we had every right to expect that development of post-50 solo content would continue right along side of the team/multi-team content. We were conditioned by the game's structure to expect to have choices that included solo play and then post-50 that choice was removed.

The devs broke with the 7 year trend and abandoned our style of play and most of us perceive no good reason why they went that way by making the decisions they did. It is frustrating because it just doesn't make any good business sense for them to do what they have done. It is sad and disappointing if they continue to ignore the solo market in the post-50 content. They worked really hard to be the most solo friendly MMO and now they seem to be working equally hard to lose that title.

I'm still holding on to hope that the staff sees the error of their ways and restore the proud solo reputatioin of this game to its rightful place at the top of the heap.
Wasn't Incarnate suppossed to be more about end game, raid style content that players wanted?

Note when I say players, I don't mean 100% of the player base.

The one's who were happy to solo, are still able to do it.

And broke from our style of play? Still feels like the CoH I've been playing for the last 6 1/2 years.

Trials are like TFs, or Hami/Mothership Raid. No one ever soloed the Hami or Mothership Raids did they? TFs have always required a team to form.

And once your character hits level 50 from all that soloing, they can still go about soloing missions!

Want that TF Commander Accolade? Need to team!

I'd say IOs were a bigger game changer than running trials. And I still unconvinced that the majority of the players feel they should beable to solo everything.

In game, I get the impression most people want to team.

Look at KM, for example. Pretty much all of its attacks are in a very consistent, slightly above average area with their DPA. The reason it can do impressive single target is of course that instead of build up it gets mini-brute mode, with particularly good uptime for scrappers. Clearly they wouldn't want to repeat that exact solution for EM, but something a bit more flavorful than just "now it's slightly faster" could only help.
Not all sets need something unique or something special. Before the change to ET, I was quite happy with EM the way it was.

Whirling Hands? LOVED IT! Considered the worst PBAOE then, just as it is now. I still loved it!

Total Focus was corpse smashing even then! That's okay. Still loved the set!

Energy Transfere became a corpse smasher too? WTF! OMG!

    *sigh*

Didn't help that I didn't care for the animation, either.

Obviously, the alternative option would upset some Brute and Scrapper players, while my preferred course wouldn't really upset the apple cart, according to what Arcana said at least.
Actually, I thought the idea of putting Scrappers to 80% Resist Cap and Brutes down to 85% Resist Cap was always a good idea!

But I think the fact that Brutes and Scrappers can get to softcapped defenses, to equal Tanker survival is false.

Yes, Brutes and Scrappers can get to 45% defense. So can a Tanker. And all things being equal on the IO front, the Tanker will STILL BE more survivable. Always.
  12. Just remember everyone. You don't need Null the Gull to fix any issues you may have with playing with Energy Blasters or other knockback artists.

The fix is far simpler than that.

If you don't like playing with a character with lots of knockback...don't team with them.

Because we have Kin Melee which can work with Energy Aura just as easily right now.

Not that I'm against Energy Melee being ported, it just isn't happening yet. Yet being the keyword.

Hopefully they change it a bit when they do port it, like with a new shorter animation for ET (and possibly TF). Turn them into 1.67 (1.848 with arcanatime) animations, make the set a ST killer! Attack would be fast enough not to hit dead bodies so many times.

And it's these changes that is the reason I hope they didn't port it now, since they said they didn't want to port anything that would require a lot of animation time.

What's working for Controller should work for Dominator as well and if it sucks, it sucks. It's not like Gravity control was well designed for Dominator's need anyway, but it still has one cool power in Wormhole, just like Phantom Army will be just as cool for Dominator. Dominator can skip Propel and I am sure some will skip the invisible powers.

Them not porting Illusion this time means that they are not comfortable with the current version on Dominator. And I wouldn't exactly classify Illusion as "exciting". If anything, I would guess we won't see Illusion at all (or it may be eventually a Cash Item because people want it too much). We'll see something different like Whip Assault / Crowd Control natural set. Now that's more exciting than Illusion. :P
Nothing in Proliferation means, every AT should get something. In fact, the opposite is true, as some ATs could easily get every option available before other ATs, which would require additional rounds of proliferation for them to obtain all applicable sets.

    So no. Wrong.
  15. Batman isn't an incarnate.

Street Level Heroes wouldn't be incarnates.

Use the Incarnate Powers OOCly. I don't consider my main an incarnate per se. I consider her one who has the ability to take on incarnate level characters and manage to win. That said, I consider her on the level of such heroes as Spider-Man.

I wouldn't be against some tech options with some of the powers. Dual Pistol/Assault Rifle/Archery/Sword/Dual Blade options for Judgement would be awesome!

Maybe have the melee weapons be much smaller PBAOEs but make up for it by doing more damage.

Not that it's hard to turn some of those Judgement powers into tech options now. Fire Judgement can easily be a Flame Thrower style power in one's gloves/gauntlets. Ion could be a massive powered taser.

[Edit] And no where does it say one has to be an incarnate to be at cosmic level events. Shadow Shard would be cosmic level, and being an incarnate isn't required.

    Grim and gritty?

Grifter and Vodoo never seemed grim and gritty to me, in Wildstorm (at least in the beginning, maybe they changed them). And Grifter's solo runs never seemed gritty to me either.

And if they bother to bring in Gen-13, that was a title that wasn't grim and gritty either.

Yes, it is true that few powers in Illusion benefit from Domination but is the current version really that bad? And if the current version is "too good", then what does it say about Illusion/Rad that can solo so many AVs already due to Phantom Army?

I just think it's bitter that Dominator doesn't get anything this time while Blaster got two new sets and I am sure those require testing as well?

And what is this "exciting" plan?? If Illusion Control did get transferred here several months later, what's "exciting" about it? It should have happened several months earlier...
Well, I'm not saying anything bad will come to ILL when ported to Doms.

Like I said, they may have figured it was a set that may need extra testing or some such, so decided to wait on it.

  24. It's 30 Alignment Merits.

I've gotten 1 the 1.5 day route, and another 1 every other day route (okay, when I got to 29, I bought the last hero merit required with reward merits).

If you're willing to be patient, it's not to hard to obtain. I just set my difficulty to -1 and rushed every mission.

Also, another suggest which people don't seem to do, set the slider to lvl 10 when you buy it.

That way you can slot it at lvl 7
