  1. Mud Pots is a poor power IF...

-You don't spend enough time in melee range
-You can't afford the Endurance cost
-You don't have the control+survivability to handle the aggro it generates on teams

If those statements don't apply to your Dom, then go ahead, take it, slot it, and try it out.
  2. The NCSoft Launcher has an option in one of its menus to auto-close itself after launching a game. Try turning that on - it helped me a bit.

So skip the cone immob. You don't need it on a Dominator at all. Frees up a power choice for something more useful.

Max's arc doesn't give a component roll at all. To make up for that, Dream Doctor's arc has 2 reward tables, but is also twice as long.

I recommend doing each Arc fully once a week, with the mission from Taskmaster Gabriel in your missions list, so you get the 2 Emp Merits per week. You don't have to do all of Max's to qualify, though, just the last mission.

Then, if you've gotten through all of them and still have part of the week left, re-run Heather's arc - it's the fastest and easiest.

Also, difficulty setting has no impact on the final rewards, and -1 enemies have the same drop rates (except for Inf, Xp, and Prestige) as +4's. Thus, I run stuff in DA on either -1/x0 (when I'm in a hurry) or -1/x8 (when I want drops) most of the time.
  5. You can turn off the howling, just follow this guide: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=113746

There's even a listing of which specific sound files you need to mess with in a post later in that thread.

In regards to Dark/Dark in general, I LOVE mine. Got him to 50 pretty quickly and I'm T3/T4 in all 5 incarnate trees. I'm not playing him as much now, since he's almost 'done' as it were, but I still get on him and run a trial or two here and there.

I'm also still trying to get myself to finish my Dark/Dark guide. It'll be done sometime soon, I swear!
  6. Drain Psyche is known to be OMGAMAZING on *any* build, but more for the Regeneration and Recovery buff on the caster, and the Regen debuff on targets. It doesn't actually take away any End, it just floors the enemy's Recovery for about 30 seconds, so it's not a good sapping tool unless you have -End powers from a set like Elec to pair it with.
  7. The statue of Atlas behind Ms. Liberty has been a meet-up and hang-out spot for AGES. It's one of the most recognizable and easiest places to find in the game.

If I see someone standing around there, I might think....

-They're RP'ing, possibly in tells or a special channel
    -They're waiting for someone
-They're looking for a team of some sort
-They got to 50 and parked their character there, but log in again sometimes.
    -They're bored.

Or any of a million other random reasons.
  8. Dark/Dark Dominator is definitely a blast to play, both solo and teamed.

I think Dominator would be a better transition for you to move away from Melee types - Controllers can be really hard to gauge your contribution to the team if you're not used to them. The Dominator will give you a couple of good melee attacks and solid damage output, along with just as good (and with IO builds for perma-dom, arguably BETTER) control as the controller. Sure, you miss out on buffs/debuffs to a large degree, but someone's got to do the killing, right?

Yes, debuffs and resistance on the enemy will affect the damage like normal. Judgement is flagged to be unaffected by buffs on the caster, but I don't think there's anything in this game that is flagged to ignore debuffs and buffs on the target.

    Flying brawler

I'm leveling a hovering Willpower/Street Justice tank right now and having a blast - rocket boots FTW!

Melee + Hover seems like an odd combination to most people, but there's actually one way it's really amazing: if you're high enough in the air, any cone attack aimed at you will miss your allies on the ground. This can be a huuuuuuge benefit when tanking certain AVs, especially in Incarnate Trials.
  11. I agree with pretty much everything Doomrider just said except...

-I slot Shadow Field for hold, personally - I don't use it often, but when I do, it's because I need stuff locked down.

-I actually skip both Nightfall and Living Shadows in my builds - less cones to worry about means more time spent up in the enemies' faces slamming them with better AoEs.

    Dark/Dark/Ice

My only significant criticism of this build is that you skipped Smite. Smite is one of the top three DPA attacks in Dark Assault, along with Midnight Grasp and Gloom, and a key part of an efficient single-target attack chain.

Considering that you have Sleet + Ice Storm, I'd consider dropping Nightfall (which is hard to position in my experience, and doesn't mesh well with the targeted AoEs and PBAoE) in favor of Smite - you'll be able to burn down bosses faster and contribute more DPS against AVs and such.
  13. Virtue and Freedom are the most populated non-EU servers; they have players on pretty much 24/7. Obviously, it's easier to find a team on weekends and when it's evening in North America, but there's always SOMEONE on.

Between the two, Freedom is a little more casual and has more farmers, power levelers, and such, while Virtue is a little more serious and has more roleplayers. Both have way more players than most of the other servers, though, so you should be able to find people you'd enjoy playing with on either one. I've seen French and German speaking players occasionally on both of those servers, as well.
  14. As far as I know, that kind of ambush is pretty unique to First Ward. There are plenty of ambushes in this game, but First Ward and maybe one or two places in the Praetoria 1-20 zones are the only times I've heard of this kind of spawn-right-on-top-of-you ambush.

    Thorn Assault/?

Both sets can toggle up their aura, lay down a patch (Static Field or Ice Slick) and go to town. Elec likes to use its AoE immob for more sapping and keeping things in the patch, while Ice doesn't use the AoE immob because it conflicts with the knockdown from Ice Slick. Both can take their AoE Hold as a Panic Button.

Ice has Shiver and Flash Freeze as its more oddball powers, neither of which is terribly impressive. Elec, on the other hand, has Jolting Chains and Synaptic Overload, both of which are fun to use and improve your AoE control potential.

I expect Elec will give you more fun and better performance overall, unless you're planning to skip tons of control powers for power pools instead, in which case I'd call them about equal. Of course, if you're really only using the aura and the patch on a regular basis and not the rest of your primary, I'd question your playstyle a bit - a little extra control can translate into HUGE survivability gains.
  16. The Fighting pool is nice, but not needed. If you need some LotG mules and a little defense, Combat Jumping, Hover, Maneuvers, and Stealth (or some combination thereof) can all be nice alternatives. Tough and Weave make a bigger difference on melee classes, where it gets them that last little bit between "almost unkillable" and "actually unkillable".

For comparison, my Dark/Dark Dominator with a no-purples IO build has CJ, Stealth, Maneuvers, and Fire Shield from the Fire Mastery pool. I managed just over 20% Melee and AoE defense, and well over 30% Ranged defense. I'm pretty happy with his level of survivability. Yes, I could swap some of that to end up with Tough and Weave, but I'd have fewer places to slot LoTG. I'd be more likely to switch over to Tough/Weave in a build with Purples where LoTGs aren't as needed, I guess, but I'm not sure the difference in final mitigation numbers would be that big.

Finally, Weave becomes a bigger deal if you're stacking it with a +Defense Epic shield like the ones from Mace or Ice Mastery, along with other +Defense pool powers.
  17. The Degenerative -Max HP debuff works strangely - against AVs, it doesn't do a percentage of HP, it always does exactly -150 HP. With a full 4 stacks, I believe it works out to being worth something like 2 DPS.

Realistically, due to the way AVs resist -regen debuffs and such, I'm pretty sure Degenerative wins NOT because of the -Max HP, but because of the toxic DoT which is unlikely to be resisted.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about exactly how AV regen is calculated to actually do the math.

You can't. There is no way to choose the location on the ground without a mouse click.

However, there IS a way to speed up the bind a little bit so you can do it all with one mouse click.

Try this: /bind shift+lbutton, "powexecname Tar Patch"

What that will do, is any time you hold Shift and click on the ground, it casts Tar Patch on that spot. As far as I know, that's the most efficient bind/macro for these kinds of powers that's possible. You can have up to three such binds, using shift, ctrl, and alt.
  19. You do not need perma hasten to have perma dom. 70% Global Recharge (which you've definitely passed) plus well-slotted Hasten is enough to have perma dom, just barely. With the slotting you've got, I expect you should be perma-hasten with no problem. Check out this guide: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=120644

Overall, your build looks decent, if a little bit expensive (Coercive Persuasion is still 150 to 200 Mil or more for each piece). I'm sorry I don't know enough about Ice/Ice to comment further.

Are you playing the same Dark Assault I'm playing?

Yes, Nightfall is a narrow cone with a slightly slow DoT. I'll admit it's not a particularly great power. Englufing Darkness, on the other hand, is an amazing AoE.

    Let's compare....

    Thorn Burst: http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...lt.Thorn_Burst
    74.158 Damage, 3 Second cast time = 24.719 DPA, on a 17 second recharge

    Engulfing Darkness: http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...sault.Moonbeam
77.078 Damage, 2 Second cast time = 38.539 DPA, on an 18 second recharge.

Other than those numbers and damage types, the two powers are identical - both do front-loaded damage followed by a DoT in a 15ft PBAoE. The recharge difference really isn't that noticeable, but the difference in cast time and DPA is HUGE. Englufing Darkness compares favorably to every Dominator PBAoE currently in existence.

Now, I will admit that Thorns gets a better cone, as well as third AoE attack in Ripper. Dark Assault on the other hand, gets a better pair of melee attacks (Smite and Midnight Grasp are killer), Gloom (which is so good Brutes ditch attacks from their primary to take it as an epic power), and Life Drain (which is a very impressive survivability boost).

Plant/Dark does perhaps lose a little synergy from the -to-hit lowering confused enemies' damage output against eachother. That said, Plant has such amazing control and bonus damage from Creepers anyway, and the -to-hit isn't that big on Dark Assault (Darkness Control has much bigger -to-hit numbers in Fearsome Stare and Shadow Field). Plant/Dark may not be "OMG TEH BEST AOE EVAR", but I definitely believe it has the potential to be a fun and effective combo.

Of course, Dark/Dark is high on my recommendations list too (hell, I'm writing a guide to it! See my sig). At the end of the day, though, play what's fun for you. If that's Plant/Thorn, Plant/Dark, or Dark/Thorn, more power to ya!

As for Soul Mastery in general, the main reason to go Soul is Gloom, which has extremely good DPA. Dark Oblit is also a solid aoe with a touch of -tohit.
Thanks. Looks like I'm sold on Soul.
  22. Thanks for the link, GuyPerfect. Still, even on the ones with 50% resistance to several damage types, I'd be cutting their damage output by 10.5%. Plus, it's an AoE debuff to all the adds nearby.
  23. There's been a few threads here and there with players suggesting a method for using extra Catalysts or having another way to obtain them. No offical dev word yet, as far as I've seen.

    Ice Slide

There is a "Frost Path Aura" where the ground freezes under your feet as you walk. It's unlockable from the Incarnate Merit Vendors in Ouroboros for 3 Empyrean Merits. I believe you can buy it once and it unlocks for all characters on the account (but may have to be claimed from in-game email for each one). http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Aura http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Incarnate_Merit_Vendor
  25. You might be able to "turn off" those powers by un-highlighting them while in totals mode. Or unlclick the little green circle on the power. Not sure if that'll work for everything.
