  1. Will this have the effect I am going for (procing on my character) or will it proc on mobs instead? Also, will it only Proc when mobs are in range?
  2. Here is my Brute variation of a Scrapper I posted a week or two ago. For various reasons I decided the Brute was the better way to go. The main reason is the build goal is the crusiest melee build I could create. The extra health inherent in Brutes and the non clipping of bonuses on "Strength of Will" just point to Brute. I give up "Burst Damage" which I prefer in I Trials, but it's a trade that makes sense to me.

Build goals are softcap S/L def, high regen, No End issues, high defenses in general, and as much recharge as I can fit on, in roughly that order of importance. I also tried to trick out as many procs and globals as I could slam on, since I am hoping this will be my trial go-to character for the next few months.

I have him at 34 right now, and am unsure if he will really be End sustainable with the toggles I have set up for him. Anybody able to give me an educated guess?

Of course, if I'm going for the Defense bonus for six-slotting the Set, that's another matter, and I do have Tactics six-slotted with this on a few characters, but it was more to get the bonus and less a conscious decision regarding the placement of the proc.
Yeah, i'm looking at the set bonuses, specifically the Defense bonus trove that I want. Just wondering how much a waste the proc was. Good answers, I think I'll try to monkey it into the build and see if I like it.

If I drop a Gaussian set into focused accuracy will the proc fire, and about how often?

I dont think you need either of the status resistance procs. As a scrapper you will very rarely be mez'd anyway, with the exception on PVP, and even then, I think slots are better spent elsewhere.

Slotting two pieces of numinia's in Health will give higher returns then two IO's, because of the 12% regen set bonus.

I'd slot stamina with a 3rd performance enh. Your Max HP is pretty low. Also, put these in Quick Recovery, for more returns then stamina. Or just two-slot.

Focused Acc. can make much better use of two Hammi-o's if you have the cash.

4 slotting boxing and brawl is madness. I don't have a solution to losing that much defence, but it's still madness. Drop brawl. Pick up the pieces elsewhere.

Dark Consumption and Soul Drain both do a fair amount of damage, but need a ton of recharge and a little acc. to be at their best. Oblit's to fill up the holes I'm pokin' in defence?
Hmm, lot of stuff here. I will take a look at the ATO thing you mentioned. I thought with scrapper ATO it would not be as big a deal as Brute or Blaster, and I just slapped it in.

I was hoping my global accuracy bonuses, along with running 'Focused Accuracy', would allow me to skimp on throwing +Acc enhancers in these two powers. The Reticle also gives +Regen, a decent S/L bump, and the Perception thing.

The status protection thing is about my concerns with I Trials, where I plan to run him a lot. I was hoping these might help some there. But if they do nothing (of which I am unsure) then of course I'll use those slots some other way.

I wanted the Regen Tissue in Health, since +25% regen is better than i could get any other way, since I am using the numina proc in Fast Healing.

If I had more slots I would 3 slot my dual staminas lol. But....

The suggestion on the Hami-Os in Focused Accuracy are noted. I'll definitely make that change! Thanks.

I am prob gonna keep the KCs in the 2 dumb powers lol. Your basic argument is good, but I get more bang for the buck outta this. Boxing is not a complete waste, since it can fill attack chain holes once in a while. I got nothing on brawl. On the bright side I get a HP boost from each set. The alternative is rewriting the entire build looking at an alternate way to get to S/L softcap. Since i also wanted high Energy Def, a ton of Healing and End, this is actually kind of tough.

Dark Consumption and Soul Drain are not attacks, even though they are attacking powers. Soul Drain is best used when thinking how to saturate it best, and Dark Consumption is an Oh Crap button when surrounded by End Drainers. Neither recharge fast enough to be in an attack chain (even with huge global recharge bonuses), although if you build for it you can make Soul drain near Perma. Not the thrust of this build, but a sweet way to run.

Procs on the other hand work slightly differently, for example, the damage added by a damage proc can be averaged to see how much it is worth in terms of damage enhancement.
Okay, dropping in LOTG +7.5% is one of the best I/O decisions behind dropping in +3% def globals or theft of essence proc in Dark Regen.

What I am trying to figure out is how much more effective (if it is more effective) going for thing Like Numina Global is over using that slot in a different way elsewhere. Also, I know adding set bonuses +10% regen is good, but really what does it mean mathematically, survivability wise. That kind of stuff, what do these numbers mean.
  7. I am having a trouble understanding the mathematical comparison between the differences between the Global Procs, and standard Enhancer Bonuses. I am presenting a build to be used as a discussion starter. It is loaded with Procs, Special I/Os and set bonuses. The primary focus of the build is S/L def, high overall Def, and End/Health Mgt. it is intended as a Platform for laying on all the I trial powers, to ascend normal play and mostly be used in late end game play over the next couple years.

But the reason I post it is to start a conversation about the benefits/comparisons of how Procs and Special I/Os affect a build. Any "scientific" input on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx in advance, Blue.

  8. Blue_Centurion

    Willpower Brute

THe other 20% is pure efficiency. As in, what is the most efficient way to use the few slots I have left, can/should certain enhancers be moved, etc. And yes, If I could crank Energy Defense to softcap I would be ecstatic, since I plan on doing a lot of trials wit this guy. For now he will be my #2 main, but I think he might be a better platform for later incarnate trials over the next year or two than my Dark/Invul Brute.
  9. Blue_Centurion

    Willpower Brute

I am constructing a SS/Will Brute for times when I don't want to do anything besides just be on a team. As such I am trying to build a very armored WP Brute. Softcap S/L, highest resists I can get, etc.

I have a few good ideas penciled out. Since this is my "off-main" I will be putting a lot of cash into the build.

Here is the ideas I have so far. I am happy with 80% of the build, but the last 20% is garbage. Goals are Defense, Global Procs & Percs, Resist, Enough Recharge to stack Rage.

  10. Are Scrapper Darkness Mastery powers all Black, like most Dark attacvks in the game, or do they suffer from Soul Mastery's "some are white'. perhaps they threw a nice Fuscia in there somewhere to liven it up? Anyways, anyone who's used all these powers have an answer? I would hate to run this guy up to 45 only to discover that Tenebrous Tantacles was Muave, Night Fall was yellow, and petrifying gaze a sunset Umber.
  11. Interesting, I must think about this build. It deserves a really thorough examination. Thank you very much.

Now you're just getting intentionally sarcastic...
  13. cannot decide if I like DarkGob or xzero45's response better. Also, many typed responses articulated well. Okay, I'm still irritated though. I want a theme, don't they freaking get that.

Edit, it's Seinfeld for the win. And that from someone who watched all of 1/2 of 1 of any of the TV shows. It was a very perfect cut/paste job DarkGob, thanks for taking the time to show you cared. :-)
  14. Take [Dark Melee: Midnight Grasp] Apply to (Target). Midnight Grasp can be colored. It is the exact same effect. Leave EVERYTHING else alone, just change the effect applied by [Soul Mastery: Soul Tentacles] No Trial, No error, No time, No hassle. Start coding, take a day to test it. Seriously.

It's bad enough they were saying for months Pets each use as much comp power as a Player, then when they were replying to "Why can't we modify pets costumes?" they own up to the fact pets are written to be low resolution cheap comp power effects. The story always changes, but the underlying fact is this: "Suck it up, that's the way it is, and we'll change it if somebody feels like it, maybe."

This is related closely to why so much of the game has misspellings, typos, and grammar that would embarrass a 5th grader. It's easier to just leave it the way Joe typed it Monday morning while recovering from a hangover.
  15. Right, it is a legal point involving corporate cash rather than an ethical or creative choice. How appropriate in that case that they should steal from the founders of Western analytical and ethical thought. Carry on.
  16. I find killing them is good.
  17. I've never run a Regen, but right off the bat I would say get your S/L def up higher. 4 slotting reactive armors to replace Impervium is an idea. But you need more than that. I would really poke around for ways to get more S/L, but not sure your budget for this build.
  18. Hmmm. Considering shoving all my darkness powers over to white. It looks like another "This can never be done, it takes smartsy people payed to do jobs" problem.

ps, they stole that icon from ancient Greek mythology? I thought they were all into never copying other peeps stuff?
  19. I have a new main I have put a lot of my best stuff onto. The build is posted in build workshop area. The build goals (in order of importance) are softcap S/L defense, very high recharge, high as possible Energy defense. The "super recharge" feature of the build makes Dark Consumption, Soul Drain, and Dull Pain available very often. I was wondering what suggestions people would make for Incarnate powers. Thanks for any ideas.
  20. So.... I have heard that you cannot costume edit Patron Powers colors or animations. that makes sense, since I cannot seem to figure out how to do it. Here is my problem, I am running a Dark/Invul/Soul as my new main. I am okay with Dark's animations and colors, although I might edit them just for fun. But Soul Mastery's "Soul Tentacles" animation is white tentacles. First, who coded that? What causes someone to look at all the Dark themed powersets and decide "Hey, lets make Soul Tentacle's animations white! It will be neat and different!" Second, seriously, this cannot be changed?

I think I see what the theme is for the statue in Atlas Park, that guy with the one huge ball. It is a icon to represent any one particular or all the errors in aggregate of the game, and he is about to drop that one huge ball he has.

  22. For the essence of magic with Dark Armors look for anything by "Dechs Kaison" on the boards. many guides, some videos, and a few rants. But seriously great advice. gl.
  23. For a less video-gamey and more movie script version you can read our beloved Paragon Wikipedia for most story-lines. I believe this is updated for most incarnate trials as well. This will give you more time top peruse dialogue, contemplate plot twists, and understand the story. I personally prefer running the arc in the fully immersed 3-D world, even if it takes me multiple (many) runs to understand the story, plot twists, and strategies. But I just love running content and alts. I believe you can read 90-95% of game content on the wiki, at a faster pace than running the content, and getting more out of it.
  24. The best place to "learn the lore" is to play the story arcs. That way you learn why groups are the way they are. Do you know what the Freakshow stand for? How and why they modify their bodies, and how they stand that much pain? A thousand other details like that exist in this very well established world. What happened in Faultline? What's up with Ghost Widow? Run the arcs...
  25. Very excited about new incarnate Slot. I am back on Brutes, and overclocking one of those monsters is always a joy.

Interested in new powersets, and especially if Energy Melee will get any love. Been rumored a long time. I suppose its too soon to hope they can figure out what do to about Blasters. Although i wish Arcanaville (and all other Blaster advocates!) all the luck in the world.
