  1. I feel silly asking this considering how long I've played this game but... how can you calculate the recharge of a power by knowing the percentage of recharge reduction (Via enhancements, IO sets, hasten, etc)? That is... I know the base recharge of hasten is 450 seconds, I know I have... lets say, 110% (just to be a jerk and use an off number) recharge... how can I calculate what the recharge of hasten will be?

    Thanks in advance!

    MA DPS chain?

Thanks Seventh, that's what I was thinking. Think I'll make a few revisions with an alpha slot in mind, but getting closer.

    MA DPS chain?

Will almost certainly go Radial Paragon in the future. And yeah, it's an expensive as heck build but something to shoot for.

When mid's gets a way for me to check alpha slots effects, I might shift some things to attend to end use, though as it stands, it's livable. Could definitely be better.

    MA DPS chain?

Retooling an MA/SR scrap for I19 at the moment and trying to run numbers, something I'm still learning at when it comes to CoH. That said, I seem to be coming up with a superior DPS for an attack chain of SK>CS>SK>CAK over what I had imagined (and heard) would be better: SK>CS>CAK.

Am I wrong? Which one is better? I have both a hecatomb and mako's bite proc stuffed into SK since I was able to work them in anyways, so maybe that's what's throwing me off.

The build as it is now...

  5. Same here. Seems most of the head options are clipping too far to the right side of the head, at least on female models.
  6. Thanks.

Suppose I'm mostly looking for advice on the set as a whole... I often post and then realize what it is that I'm REALLY asking. I have a set theme in mind, which is why I slotted for def and rech and yet didn't take ice mastery (don't like ice mastery for this character, going more "natural").

ES is bad? PR, while having an awesome animation, also seems to have an ungodly long activation time, though I had planned on taking it eventually. SF on the other hand I'm on the fence with... I usually don't take the mez powers of a blaster but I tend to suffer from a solo'ing standpoint for that choice.
  7. Hey all... coming back after a few months off to try out some new toons. Playing a DP/MM Blaster right now and enjoying it so far (At lvl 25 currently), though I'm not sure if I'm happy with the build. I've been told skipping swap ammo isn't wise and the more I play the more I think that might be true. Secondly, I wouldn't mind getting suppressive fire in there somehow, but I'm not sure what to drop for those. I'm due for my 60 month vet badge in about a month so I could probably drop CJ for Swap then and not lose anything... ideas?

  8. Points on why MA is awesome:

    - Your tier 9 is you leap into the air and kick them IN THE FACE. THE FACE, MAN!

    - Yes, you only get one AoE, but it's fast, looks sweet, and, oh by the way, it floors everyone it hits. Damage mitigation, good damage, and a nice animation.

    - I'm told that Cobra Strike is pretty nice in an attack chain. It's there if you're into damage mitigation, but it's not my thing.

    - MA just got a bunch of new animations. Sadly, most of the really nice ones replace attacks that already looked sweet, in my opinion, but there's still plenty of choices.

I personally took an MA/SR scrap to 50 and surprisingly, loved every second of it despite that /SR is a slow building secondary. At 50, it's not exactly built to be uber, but rather fun (She's built as a parkour expert... nutty run speed without superspeed. Ninja Run recently made this hilarious.) Ultimately, it's a very fun "natural" style scrapper.

To summarize, MA is a very fun set to play. If you're into looking awesome and having a fun, flipping, or just street fighting character, it's great. If you're a number cruncher looking to push your DPS higher, it might not be the best set. It's not terrible damage at all, but it's also not "the best".
  9. Just one that I'd really like to see:

    http://www.modelguns.co.uk/images/ColtSAA2.jpg

Bad with links, sorry. At any rate, Colt Single Action Army for the cowboy/cowgirl/old school gunslinger characters.
  10. Honestly? Because it's a comic book world and the idea of media control and manipulation by a corporation that spans the ENTIRE GLOBE isn't as far fetched as it might be in the real world. Yes, that's a bit of a cop out, but look at other things in the game.

Why doesn't everyone know that EVERY cave door in paragon city or the rogue isles either leads to a council base or oranbega. Literally. Every one. I'm thinking neo-fascists and sorcerers probably don't have the media clout that Countess Crey does.

How is ANYTHING accomplished, for that matter, in a city where you literally cannot walk down the street without being mugged by what amounts to a drugged out junkie wearing more armor than a sherman tank? Or a demon from another dimension? Heck, even a fire breathing gang member.

The point being... though we try to explain everything, it's just not real at the end of the day, and that's your explanation. Frustrating I'm sure. *shrugs*

  12. Never in four years of playing have had this happen until a few nights ago where I was running Oro arcs and had it happen TWICE.

I remember the arcs were "the Eternal Nemesis" and "Division:Line". The first instance was the Nosferatu mission on the Nemesis arc, and I'm unable to remember exactly which mission in the Rikti arc it was. In both instances, a GM was able to help clear the mission. Very frustrating when it happens, but the GMs were able to help resolve the issue in a timely manner in both cases, so Kudos to the customer service team.

Edit: the first mission, "Capture Nosferatu" was a non-existant door INSIDE of the AE building in Founders Falls, whilst the second, the Division:Line mission, lead to a non-existant door to the north of the AE building's North entrance in Brickstown, just about where the pillars are in front of the doors. Hope this helps!

    Laptop advice

The mem was DDR3. And yeah... I'm not expecting to run at max settings like I do on my desktop. If I can run it without lag and it doesn't look like trash, I'll be happy.

Thanks a ton for all the help, by the way!

    Laptop advice

Considering I run my uber desktop at 1920x1080, Yeah, I suppose that'd be a bit much to get out of a 1 gig card. I'm not really willing to go much higher than that price wise, I don't think though... so that may be it. Guess heat is the only factor now, so I'll have to invest in a block of dry i... I mean... a cooling pad.

    Laptop advice

Heh, alright... conflicting responses here. I was planning on running 64 bit vista by the way, due to the 4 gigs of memory. I'll take a look at the radeons... I've never really had much luck with ATI cards but I suppose I could say the same for Nvidia... I'm just more used to Nvidia's shenanigans.

    Laptop advice

Hey there, purchasing my first laptop (definitely more of a desktop person but I've found myself with the need for a laptop enough times that I'm looking now).

Anywho, was wondering if this was a good looking config?

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
    8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I can provide any other data but that seemed the most relevant... my main concerns are:
    1. Is that enough Memory to run that rig properly?
    2. Is the graphic card overkill?
  17. Gah... did you specifically pick the hours I would be at work? Oh well. Hope to hear more info soon, sounds fun.

Just conjecture here... but it sounds like you ran it as a level 50 exemping to 45? If that's correct, you would ALWAYS be in double mode, no matter what, as you cannot earn any XP at level 50.

They also occasionally get the urge to jump into the rafters. But boat maps are notoriously bad about getting down to one guy left and searching 'till you're sick.
  20. Personally I like to go for my defensive powers first, but I've found that with Willpower, it's really only with a combination of all your defensive options (E.G. high level) that you really start to shine.

There's been a lot of good advice in this article already so I'll just touch on a few points I've picked up.

My current main is a DM/SR scrap. I have Shadow Maul but I don't use it in my main attack chain, but rather use it when the opprotunity to hit multiple targets arises. In the early levels, though, whatever is up is your attack chain. I wouldn't be afraid to use it. It's decent enough that using it on a single target isn't a waste.

Powers from DM that you will need to get without a doubt: Smite, Siphon life, Soul Drain, Midnight Grasp.

I personally like shadow punch as well.

You may not need dark consumption as a WP scrapper, since you'll have both Quick Recovery and Stamina (Assuming you're taking both... personally I would). That will have to be a choice you make with experience.

The only thing I would skip in Willpower is the self rez, for reasons stated above.

And since I've totally forgotten the topic... FIGHTING AS A SCRAPPER!

As a DM/WP, you're going to start your fights by pissing off as many people as you can. Take Soul Drain the second you can, and open your fights with it. It will train enemies on you, fueling your RttC, and also keeping them within striking distance. As you go up in levels, you'll probably start to find an attack chain you're comfortable with. While WP is usually a 'fire and forget' set, always have your insp tray open, and keep a few purples and greens in it. If a group looks nasty, pop a purple. If your health goes red or yellow and you're still fighting a large group, it might be time to pop a green.

The last thing to remember about WP is that Strength of Will is a PRE-EMPTIVE power. Popping it after you've engaged a group will not save you. That said, pop it as soon as it comes up and you'll be a veritable buzzsaw with no need to stop.
  21. Unfortunatly I can hardly provide concrete stats here but also feel I should chip in... definitly a shortage on drops. Running a 5-6 man team at 50 for approximately 3 hours, I recieved about 4 recipe drops, all common. Fighting level 53 enemies for an 8 person team. One person on the team DID recieve a purple drop that night, however drop rates across the entire team were utterly low, with about 3 non-common recipes in 3 hours... over at least 5 people.

Really wish there was more dev feedback about this. It's a pretty big issue and I'd love to see some progress made on it from the devs, considering all the hard evidence that's been gathered.
  22. Glad to see the snap shot anim got fixed/is being worked on/whatever.

Has there been any official response lately about the horrible drop rates though? Was on a large team a couple nights ago and definitely noticed this. We were doing various 45-50 level arcs, blueside, with a few lowbies SK'd. Forget the exact difficulty setting but it was something to the tune of +3, as if we were 8 heroes. In about 3 hours of non-stop missions, I got about 3 recipe drops, all of them generic.
  23. Personally I like Spine/Elec, but I'm not much of a solo farmer and I havn't really enjoyed playing my Spines/Fire, despite getting to 50. My reasoning is mostly based on surivivability... with elec, your tier 9 is a godmode that prolongs your survivability, while with fire, your tier 9 is a self rez. Furthermore, Elec is now very good with end usage, which I've found to be a problem, even with consume, for /fire.

The tradeoff is that your heal recharges slower with /elec than /fire, and your burst damage isn't as good, though with lightning reflexes, your DPs can be better in the long run.
  24. Did a quick search and didn't see this posted yet, but it's kind of annoying so posting it to be sure.

Snap shot from the archery set isn't animating properly. The arrow appears in your hand but you don't notch it or draw the bow, it just magically flies at your target. Confirmed with a female model corrupter, longbow and... ahm... the tech bow with the laser? models. Also bugging it in game.
