I levelled from 49 to 50 in 1.5 hours solo - running Radio missions.

    Will a SD/SS Tank outdamage a Brute - No!
It is however very easy so softcap and it does solo very well.
For some one who wants to make a high damage alt that is extremely survivable without spending a bucket load of money it's a good option.
Not a bad thought really. Between the 80% from rage and the 59.5% from saturated AAO, and another 95% from enhancements, you're riding, what... 165.5% or so from the damage cap for tanks? Certainly enough to solo comfortably and far easier to softcap than brutes and scrappers.

    That might be tolerable.
  2. I'd have to crank up a stone melee scrapper should we get it. SM is the biggest end hog damage set I've used yet. Being able to use it with CP/PP from body mastery with an AT that actually deals damage would be sweet.

Could NOT have said it better myself.

Thought you were joking about it being tough.

Right up until I rescued Lady Grey and the ambushes tore me apart like I was a level 1 n00b in Atlas Park.

Considering the vast ignorance his posts show, I'd have to agree.

On topic, powersets that don't lend themselves to fast soloing will be ignored:

#1 Stone Armor: I've tried to use it several times. My brother's main uses it on his tank and yes, it's a great set for what it does, but for what it takes away, it becomes worthless to me.

#2 Psionic or Mental sets: I hate the sound effects. They give me splitting headaches, but only if I play the set. Having teammates use them doesn't bug me at all.

That's it for powersets. I'm locked out of several powersets that I probably would use because of the ATs that they are locked into.

Defenders and Tanks: Anemic damage output makes them poor for soloing.
Controllers and Stalkers: Just plain boring.

I still haven't done that will Bill. Just +1/x2 w/ bosses? No temps, no insps, no deaths. Ok.
  8. And how long did I have to wait for claws on brutes before it finally showed up? Just because you say it won't happen means little. If Castle came out and said "I won't allow it" then I'd accept that it won't happen.

The only fact involved is that we were told eventually all sets that made sense to port over would be. It makes just as much for scrappers to get SS as brutes to get claws.

Pylon Challenge: Solo a Rikti Pylon in the RWZ, no temps, no inspirations. Just run up and beat it down.

RWZ challenge: Find a spawn of level 54 rikti with 3 bosses. Take out the whole spawn without temps or inspirations. While you are allowed to herd them up, you're not allowed to split the spawn up.

The last good one I know of is to head into the AE and create a mission with a lot of AVs and find out how many AVs at once you can handle and take down.

A DM/Inv is a rock solid combination. It won't reach the low times on a pylon that the DM/Shields are reaching, but its survivability will be very good. The tohit debuffs from dark melee stacked on to Inv's invincibility plus the self heal from dark will be very nice indeed.
  10. As stated, skipping the passives on SR is a very bad idea. That passive scaling dam-res has saved my main from faceplanting a thousand times over. Stacks nicely with tough on the S/L side of it.

I'm surprised at how much I approve of this statement.

For the record, Chaoswolf, my claws/wp brute, would also like a canine tail.

    Scythe Class!!!

Just popped in to note that every time I see this thread title my brain translates it as Scythe Claws.

    Which would be AWESOME.

Tankers and Brutes are not going to see Katana any time soon because a the Katana implies a certain focus and sense calm deadly skill that just does not work for tankers or brutes. The same goes for Martial Arts. Nor will Brutes ever see the cold sets, just does not work with the concept. The Scrapper Concept does not fit with superstrength at all. In the end Martial Arts is the Scrapper version of SS if you. It Scrappers hand to hand combat. Infact is kind of key to the great battles between the ATs. That scrapper like Wolvie going up against Hulk. Its a key distiction between ATs.

As I just stated in the other (edit: oops, it was this thread) SS thread, I see an opinion here not backed up by reality.

Dual Blades was given to every melee AT. It's in no way brutish. It's purely a style set.

The "elemental" sets staying with tanks/brutes was tossed when scrappers got fire melee/armor.

Then brutes got claws. There's absolutely nothing smashy or heavy about claws. Nothing. Even with the tweaks it got during the port.

When I hear something along the lines of "perhaps tanks shouldn't get katana/broadsword because of DivAva/Parry being grossly overpowerered on tanks" then I'll at least listen. I probably won't agree because kat/bs would be weaksauce on tanks.

But I will no longer take seriously any argument based on "X shouldn't be ported over because of AT concept."

Edit2: And Louis, I got claws on brutes because I wanted it.
  15. Lots of folks say a direct port of SS to scrappers would be overpowered.

I've already shown that it wouldn't be for single target damage.

That leaves AoE to worry about. If Foot Stomp is overpowered for brutes and tanks, then it would be for scrappers. If it isn't already OP, then it wouldn't be if proliferated.

I dismiss completely the arguments that scrappers shouldn't get SS (or SM for that matter) "just cuz."

  18. I no longer separate scrappers and brutes.

I play them because I enjoy my meditation time.

    Tab, F, 1, 2, tab, F, 3, 4, repeat until stress levels have fallen.
  19. Quick and dirty response:

On a brute, rage gives an 80% damage buff for 120 seconds and then kills damage for 10 seconds.

Picking a number purely out of the air, let's say you have an attack that does 100 damage.

I can add 95% buff from enhancements. I get can more from fury, but there's some variation so let's pick an arbitrary value of 75% fury or 150% damage buff.

    100 base damage
With enhancements and fury that becomes 100*(1+.95+1.5) = 345
With single stacked rage added in, we go 100*(1+.95+1.5+.8) = 425 BUT 1/13th of the time it does 0 damage. 425*(12/13) = 392.308
With double stacked raged, we go 100*(1+.95+1.5+1.6) = 505 BUT there's 2 crashes to deal with so 505*(11/13) = 427 damage

    To rewrite them:
    100 base
    345 enhs, fury
    392 enhs, fury, rage
    427 enhs, fury, rage*2

Let's say that attack takes 2 seconds to animate
    50 DPS
    172.5 DPS
    196 DPS
    213 DPS

Can you get by without rage? Absolutely. Does your overall DPS suffer because of it? Yes. Is doublestacking rage a solid goal regardless of the double crash? Looks that way for those pushing the bleeding edge.

I hate the rage crash as well, but ever since I silenced the rage sound effect, it became tolerable for me. Still ended up deleting my SS/WP brute in the 30s.
  20. Hi. Welcome to the game.

To fly you need to reach level 14 and take the power Fly from the flight power pool.
Before doing so, you must take either hover or air superiority from the same power pool.
Power pools will unlock for you at level 6.

I'm unsure what is locked down while on a trial account or how the AE may be locked down.

Good starting classes for a new player to learn the ropes are blasters, scrappers, brutes and corruptors.

I have no answer for the best server question. What I consider the best probably isn't a common opinion.

How long would it take a Claws Tank to solo a pylon?
    17 hours, 16 minutes.
  22. How much time occurred between CoV go live and when it became part of the core CHV game?

Several years? I'll pay to play it now instead of sitting around hoping one day to get it for free.

To be honest and fair to fireminded. we should actually be comparing Tankers to Brutes. Since Brutes have the same damage output before inherents as scrappers and closers survivability to the tankers. Why is it again that I would play a tanker?
Ignoring inherents, brutes do less damage than tanks. Taking inherents into account, brutes with high fury do comparable damage to scrappers when their crits are averaged out.

Brutes and scrappers have identical base values for their mitigation sets. Brutes have higher base hitpoints than scrappers but lower than tanks.

    Brutes share tank mitigation caps.

    Solo a brute = a scrapper
Buffed by teammates, a brute can reach tank level survivability.
Buffed by teammates, a brute can surpass scrapper level damage due to their much higher damage buff cap.

Brutes > Scrappers >>>> Tanks for damage.
Tanks > Brutes > Scrappers for mitigation.

Can a brute in general do the tanking job for a team? Absolutely. The brute's mitigation, especially when buffed by teammates is close enough to a tank's to survive easily. They have real taunt and a single target taunt on their attacks for aggro control. The brute's vastly superior damage output means that he will not *need* to survive an encounter nearly as long as a tank does due to the spawn in question being wiped out more quickly.

The only time a tank will be a better choice on a team is when that team is damage heavy and mitigation light.
Edit: Even then, if the team is so damage heavy, a brute will do fine since the spawns won't be around long enough to do anyone harm.
