Could be fun!

This brings up an interesting point: S/L damage is done a great deal in the game through melee. BUT, E/NE damage is done a lot by ranged (and some AoE).
So much of the trials are about E/NE resists, and NOT defense (purples don't seem to help a whole heck of a lot with the BAF towers, but oranges do), other than a freakishly expensive <insert primary here>/stone brute would survive and be viable elsewhere?
I have gotten some great ideas and some excellent advice!
COME ON FREEDOM! I want another server to try this all out! -
By removing the Leadership pool, adding the 2 from concealment, taking the slots from Super Leap and placing them in combat jumping and weave and also (since we are trying something new) removing melt armor (which never has the effectiveness I wanted) and adding fire blast + 1 slot from healing flames, I get this:
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...B6FF01D1B7F633
Faster, does more damage, but still seems more like an overpriced yet slow farming build.
Still, a brute like the above, only better, is what I am after...
I see Oblits all over the place, yet, they seem a bit over-rated (though the 5% recharge is nice).
And, I agree, S/L and Energy are far more useful, and prevalent in the game. Especially the end game. I am pleased with the 70+% S/L resist, and the 45-50% Energy resist is decent enough...
But, the defenses are lower than I would like. And, for a brute, being alive is essential to keeping fury going (that much I DO know). -
Thank you! I agree on Fiery Embrace, but was curious since tanks have a hard time reaching the 300% damage cap anyway.
Assault was wrong. It actually has an end reduction in it, I made a change and it didn't go through.
Chain Induction is better than Charged Brawl, but Havoc Punch as well? Nice.
Blessings was 3 slotted for the minor defense and the leaping distance. In Mo task force runs, no temp powers so I need Super Leap.
Regarding defense, 1 purple insp and I am a little above the softcap for fire defense. -
I want to clarify that this is not merely a farming tank. I tried to fashion a fiery aura tank that could farm, and do so effectively, while still being able to competently participate in TFs, trials and the like.
It is, as tanks go, fast. But, compared to a similarly IOed Brute, I am positively glacial! I want to make a brute that can survive the way this tank can, but whip through both AE and content with rapidity.
Again, thank you all for your time! -
I have a FA/Elec Tank that I have done just about everything to it I CAN do. It gets well over 90% fire resist (I wasn't doing overkill on purpose, and I don't have cardiac alpha either) without taking Temperature Protection.
I have tried to duplicate that feat with both my Dark/Fiery Brute and my SS/Fiery Brute to little success. It seems in order to max fire resist as a Brute I must take Temperature Protection. Or do I?
Here is the tank's build, and when I try to do the same thing in Mids I never quite get to 90%:

Thanks in advance! And, Influence (or infamy) is not really a problem, but less expensive is better. -
I have been looking at the Street Justice powerset on beta, and I was wondering, how does it stack against the beast of power hitters: Super Strength?
The build up is weaker than Rage, but there are 2 AoEs as opposed to just Foot Stomp for SS.
Anyone taken a closer look? I mean, the set itself looks awesome (great graphics), but if I made a SJ/FA Brute, will I be able to wade through the armies of Romulus faster? -
What is the recharge needed to stop the rage crash? as in, what percentage? I reckon with tier 4 Spiritual, tier 4 Ageless and Hasten 3 slotted I would need...
I suck at Mids... Just a disclaimer. -
I have one thing, well, no 3 things to say...
1st, my GOD what a waste of several minutes of my life! I should sue you for a sliver of my life I'm never getting back!!!
2nd, love the game, will keep subscribing... Beta means, not really ready for prime time.
3rd, As to the McDonalds lawsuit... Yes, it is true that perhaps the lady should not have placed a very hot cup of coffee in between her thighs as she drove away, but the negligence came from placing the coffee in a cup normally used for fountain drinks (ones that are sealed at the bottom with WAX and the bottom fell off). Imagine, if you will, that you are driving away from an eatery with a cup of very hot java lava betwixt your nethers, and all of a sudden YOUR crotch is drenched in +150 degree liquid... Do you find the coffee-stewed lady-parts an acceptable risk for a steaming morning beverage?
I am not reading this obituary of common sense again, and kudos to those of you who tried reason. You are patient people... -
Quote:One of the best explanations ever...Farming is a repeated action done to gain the desired reward.
One can farm the ITF for shards since you are most likely to get shard drops from it.
One can farm for purples by running missions on x8 with mobs that have level 50 drops.
One can farm for tickets by running AE missions at x8 although the higher the diff setting the quicker it is to hit the ticket cap, 1.5K for a mission. Any build can farm for tickets. The only difference is the speed in which it is done.
Power Leveling(PL) gets lumped in with farming because it is basically farming for exp, +4x8 with bosses being the ideal since the lower level character will be facing +5s. If you see a non-level 50 asking for a farm, they are doing so because they want to get PLed. Sure, they will get tickets as well if it's done via AE, but that's a secondary goal. A smaller number of builds can PL others, but the current king is a SS/fire/mu brute. It is a common practice for the farmer to even take payment for them to farm other players(not saying it's right mind you) and certainly in cases where it's a private farm. A private farm is where the number of players getting PLed is on the lower side and ideally it's just two people doing the mission since they will get far more rewards for doing x8 sized mobs versus an 8 player team doing it. Players can set up trades which means person A farms person B, and then they switch.
As much info as you'll ever need on farming is found in the brute forum via three threads, "Very Best Farmer?," "Lowbie Farming Map," and "Cebr." There's even walk through videos on how to do it. "Very Best Farmer?" covers the debate on which brute really is king and why. "Lowbie Farming Map" is based on how one can farm tickets and PL oneself using low level maps. "Cebr" is covering low level maps, but specifically with a Claws/elec brute.
My official opinion on farming is...it's an option. I wouldn't do it if I was a new player since they would have too much to still learn about the game. The game doesn't need more AE babies. I didn't break down and try self PLing a character until I was nearly a 6 year vet. I'm not even doing it for the currency it can generate since I have generated around 6-8, or so billion from the market. It was merely done because it's one of the only things I haven't done in game.
It's been an interesting experiment and I'll leave it at that. Some days I have no problem going through a 5 mission arc and burning through the tickets I get for it. Some days I nearly cringe at the sight of an AE building. My level 50 SS/fire feels like it still has it's training wheels on because about the only thing it is currently good for is ambush farms. Once I get it IOed, then the real fun begins. It's interesting to think I have a level 50 and yet there is no story of going to level 50 outside of ambush farms. Compare that to my other 50s and I can tell numerous stories about their journey to 50. My Earth/storm had teammates chanting her name. My SS/fire has people asking if I'm running any farms even if I say nothing. Like I said, it's an option.
I have a "farmer" now. Never did until May of this year. I made a new character on Freedom because I wanted something there for the big Praetorian Invasion (and it was to be the "stress test server"), and I saw them...
Unkindly, they would be best described as "AE babies and whiners and beggars." I felt as if I had made a grave mistake...
And THEN I saw something most wonderful...
The farms themselves. I saw a way for me to play against myself. How fast could I get through a farm? How fast could I get 1.5 k tickets? How long did it take with +0/x6, or +1/x8, etc.
So, I get the farmer to lvl 50, and I struggle through the Trapdoor mission to unlock my Alpha slot, and I was seized with a desire to make a 'farming toon' that would not be gimped in content. That is to say, I could do any mission, task force, trial, or AE map and not make a fool of myself, regardless of the damage inflicted, the mobs I faced, or whether I was exemplared or not.
So, after making a 'farmer' and IOing him out to where I think I should be (well, I still have 3 PvP IOs I need before I am good and finished), I find myself not doing farms nearly as much. I am running trials and duo-ITFs with a buddy of mine or hunting for badges and accolades and, in short, doing all the things I'd done with all of my non-AE-centric characters.
I love tickets. Getting a recipe one of my other characters needs is like getting a winning scratch lottery ticket. I love competing against myself in AE maps for time, did I need to heal myself and if so, how often? Was I defeated? I also do love helping friends get to that next level: 22 for SOs, or 35 to enter Cimerora (and the ITF), or 41 for Epic Power Pools...
It is, as Amy stated above so much more succinctly than I could, 'an option.' It happens to be one I think I am growing out of though. -
So far street justice looks amazing!
-
There is no "state of AE" except for in Freedom. Please do not try to fix stuff that ain't broke. Why people get their knickers in a twist over some n00b shouting "PL me plz. Nede moar lvlz!" is beyond me. Ignore them.
-
I have said, numerous times, that while I have nothing against using AE for leveling, that is not the way to understand the mechanics of the game...
I think my diatribe is as follows:
"Before you do ANY sort of leveling in AE, you should get at LEAST 2 characters to 50 via content. On hero and one villain. As a matter of fact, since I am old-school, 4 would be awesome (one hero AT, one villain AT, one EAT and one VEAT). After that, PL away to your hearts desire, don't complain about how much inf it may cost, and use those tickets wisely. Nothing makes a sad Panda more than seeing a lvl 50 who has no idea how to get to Croatoa."
The first 10 50s I made were through content exclusively. I never even THOUGHT about AE, and then I saw the tickets I could use for rare salvage for my IOs... Now, it is a part of each of my characters to generate a bit of inf or salvage for the odd recipe here and there. -
I'd be happy to run a few with you guys! @TrueBeorn, and either Electric Briquette or Samurai Beorn will show up.
-
Thanks Lemur for the link to Tunnel Rat's addressing the topic! Good posts all!

I looked and I didn't see this being suggested before, but I am SURE it has already been bandied about.
We can customize our Primary/Secondary powers and we can customize our incarnate powers...
Yet, not the Ancillary or Patron Power Pool powers...
Why not?
Just asking. It can't be all that difficult, the know how must be there...
I just would like to see this, if possible.
Thank you -
My fire tank has S/L resist at 70%, NE at 50% and E at 45, in addition to Fire capped at 90%.
Of course, cold is around 23% and toxic and psi damage are practically non-existent, but, 1 purple and 1 orange and I am fine in just about any instance for the ITF...
Just depends on what you want to spend. -
Quote:Fair enough. The character I am considering it for is a Fiery Aura/Electrical Melee Tank. You don't say what AT or power set you're playing, so it's hard to be concrete here.
He started off as merely a farmer. But, as I began doing the Incarnate Trials (again, for nifty things to help me farm) I started really missing content, so on a whim I did a few TFs.
The way I had it set up to be a more well-rounded toon actually made it far less squishy than I had imagined a Fiery Aura ANYTHING to be...
As I continued to put in a PvP IO here, and a purple set there, the real potential as a viable content tank became apparent.
It was when I was in a PuG STF about a week ago and we WAXED everyone and I was tanking Black Scorpion and Captain Mako at the same time, I thought, "wow, he's handling this better than my main would!"*
So, now, I have a new goal: Get ALL the shiny toys I can fit into this build to make it as hardy, damaging, and fast as possible while STILL being able to 1) farm as fast as a tank can farm and 2) be as UNgimped in content as possible.
To those ends, I was wondering if the benefits of Panacea were, by cost analysis, worth the extreme expenditure of influence. I am spending the time/inf/effort and merits (Hero, Emp, and regular ol' merity merits) to get the PvP +3% def IO first, and then another 2 purple sets (Hecatomb and Ragnarok) for some attacks, before I even THINK of acquiring the Panacea set, but, in case I saw one (or, heaven forbid, one drops while in a PvP zone), I don't want to be tempted if the outcome isn't worth it.
Thank you all so very much for the input. Lots of great advice on the forum, as usual!
*- My "main" (i.e.- the first toon I ever got to lvl 50) is an Invul/Energy Melee tank on Virtue -
I have a few farmers, and each of them is an experiment after the first real "farmer" I made (which was mostly by accident).
I was on Freedom floating around Atlas as my little WS right after the first round of invasions (my "main toons" are on Virtue, but I had made a character on Union so I could experience the lag, <ahem>, I mean the JOY of the invasions), and I was determined to make a toon and get it as close to 50 as I could before the BIG invasion on Freedom at the end of the invasion period.
I was told by a nice farmer, whose name escapes me now, "if you bring a lvl 1 I'll farm you for free, no level pact!" and as I was told by ANOTHER nice farmer, "tank or brute, SS/fire or elec/fire man, THOSE are the way to make inf, yo" (he actually typed that to me). Since I was in Atlas, I hurredly fashioned a Fire/Elec tank.
Electric Briquette was born.
I had no idea that farming existed really. I was a Victory and Virtue guy; I rarely had been on Freedom. But, the farming was fun! Regardless of whether or not you run people through, there is this personal challenge...
I liken it to golf. You can never get a perfect score in golf. NO ONE makes an 18 on a professional full-length course. BUT, you can try to make your score as low as possible.
In farming, the same applies. There is no perfect farm run. But, you can get as fast a time as possible. THEN there are the other things, like, what farm gets the maximum tickets in the shortest time, how quickly you can get someone from lvl 1 to lvl 12-15 in one run, or even how fast is a "S/L" farm versus a "fire" farm.
And, even on the alleged king of farming, the fire farm, how well did the designer create the farm to limit NON fire damage, maximize the inf/exp to kill ratio from minions to lieutenants to bosses, and utilize the map itself to maximize exp and inf acquisition in the nearest rooms to the zoning point.
I have favorites, as many farmers do, but not because they 'net me the biggest haul' but because I enjoy competing against myself for a faster time, or less damage taken, or more efficient use of Vengeance, or even keeping folks alive longer or better. Heck, my favorite fire farm is one that existed only on the EU servers until the merger, and IT is the fastest way to get the ticket cap. At 0/+6 no less!
I have since spent a GREAT DEAL of influence to make my farmer viable outside of AE. I mean, after all, I wanted those nifty incarnate powers and the low resist to everything BUT fire was destroying me in trials. The stacked debuffs from the Imperious Task Force ripped me to shreds at first (I LOVE that armor). And, I plan to spend a great deal more on him. I want him to be as effective outside a farm as inside.
Once again, I can never win, but I can pit myself against myself.
Since then I have made a spines/dark scrapper for S/L farming, a dark/fire brute for fire farming, and redesigned an elec/shield scrapper for S/L farming as well.
If was really doing this just to farm, I'd stick with one guy and be done with it. But, working through builds on the go is challenging and fun (especially since I don't grok Mids very well).
And, before any of you says it, I KNOW SS/Fire Brute is the current Cham-peen for speed, but I've seen more than a fair few drop during a run because they lost focus at the wrong time and Rage dropped the same time Vengeance did. My tank may not be as fast as a well built Brute, but I don't die in the sea of fire-using beasties just because I looked away for a moment.
But, yeah, had I to do it over again, I'd probably make my Fire/Elec Tank an Elec/Fire Brute. But Electric Briquette is good enough for me! -
I love this game...
I will run AE missions, play in Ouroboros, run TFs and trials, do tips and even regular ol' contact missions.
Just like all of you good folks (or evil denizens for the Rogue Isles crowd).
And, in order to make my characters as 'heroic' (or villainous) as possible, I try to get the best IOs and IO sets I can in order to reap the benefits of all the nifty bonuses.
Once again, just like all of you.
However, even when looking at things in Mids, I really don't grok the benefits of certain IOs.
I rarely, I mean RARELY do PvP. I am in a PvP SG on Freedom, and I do go play on occasion, but not enough to PvP IO out a build.
But, are there certain instances when a set of PvP IOs is better in PvE?
The singular instance I am curious about is Panacea versus Doctored Wounds or Numina's Convalescence in the Fiery Aura's Healing Flames.
6 slotted versus 6 slotted, what is the best Healing IO set out there? Is it worth the 4.5 billion to get all 6? Would I be better off with something else? -
Thanks Mr. Laser! I'll do that next time we try for that.

You guys were SO right. I believe if I had it to do over again, I would have made EB a brute so I could've skipped the tier 1 attack and gotten Chain Induction instead. Wow! I died twice. Once because I was stupid and wasn't paying attention to the debuff stacks from a bunch of bosses, minotaurs and cyclops on the 3rd map, and once about half way into the final Rommie fight.
His SS/FA Brute was devastating! Rage + Fury = LOTS of folks dropping during Foot Stomp. I think if he'd had the same IOs I had, he would have died once or twice.
A SS/FA Brute has nasty ST attacks and Foot Stomp was awesome. I DO think Electrical Melee is preferable for AoEs, but overall the damage was better with SS. -
Howdy folks! It's me, your ol' pal Beorn.
Well, a couple days ago, a friend said to me, "I feel like doing a duo ITF. Interested?"
Well, I had never done one before, but, I figured, why not?
Anyway, on Virtue we used 2 scrappers and got the job done, albeit rather slowly because we spent over an hour on the last map alone.
So, today, we tried again, on Freedom, where one of my best (and certainly most expensive) characters is: lvl 50 (+1) Fire/Elec Tank, Electric Briquette.
I was joined by @PUMMEL and his lvl 50 SS/FA Brute BRUTAL KILLER (with no incarnate powers mind you).
Even though we were just as fast as the scrapper duo on Virtue for the first 2 maps, and slightly slower on the 3rd map (that computer took us just a bit longer to crack, but we got Requiem and Rommie down faster), we cut our time nearly in HALF.
The secret? Sturdier characters that survived the Nictii Mires much better, and being better prepared by having red insps on hand.
Now, this wasn't a speed run, and I think I only got 4 shards, but I am very pleased with the results from what I thought was 'merely' a "farming build."
All in all, I died twice, and BRUTAL died 4 times (for some reason, I can't get the correct defeats when the complete screen comes up).
