    game update

    [ QUOTE ]
Highly doubtfull its an ISP issue. As I can connect to the internet and download the 1st 2 patches at 6.5Mbps. Its just tht 90 MB patch that I and others are having an issue with. It will goto 1KBps or not at all. Im going to agree that its the update server/the new update. Dont you find it odd that once I15 went live people are only now having an issue?

    Again, I beg to differ.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can differ all you want, but your position is based on far too many incorrect assumptions. Unless you are a tech for your ISP, you have no evidence to rule them out. Regardless though, the Internet is a huge place and many different 'roads' twist and wind between CoX, a player's ISP, and the player. A lot can go wrong in-between.

First, the easiest thing to try is power down your computer, wait 30 seconds, then power back up. If the connection still isn't any better then try the instructions in Zloth's thread.
  2. Give this a try, per Aggelakis.

"Rename all of your saved folders in your installation folder. So like "Critters old" or whatever. There's something in the saved text that is unceremoniously dumping people out of game. "

Could it be something really easy like the digital/analog switch on the monitor? I have an HP flat panel display and if I hit the +/- button on the front of the display it will switch between displaying analog signal input and digital.

Perhaps the old card that worked sent an analog signal and the newer ones are digital only?

Maybe you bumped it accidentally after your last game session.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Skimming.. FTL.

    [ QUOTE ]

It seems that all of my video cards are dead. I gave the 9600 to the person looking at it......it would not work in my PC or his. He pops in another card in my PC and gets a good signal. So it's not the motherboard going bad. (I hope)

Looks like it's time to get a new card.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Be careful about this; if you've had several video cards go bad in short sequence connected to a particular system, the likelihood that there's something wrong with that system that is *causing* the cards to die is significant. Usually this would be the motherboard, the power supply, or heat. Upthread you said you replaced your power supply; that may have fixed the problem that was killing the cards.

Still, check carefully for bulging or oozing capacitors on the motherboard, and if you can see inside the grill with a flashlight, the power supply. Recheck all the power cable connections. Be aware of any unusual behavior, so you can hopefully catch problems before they get worse.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I concur.

If you don't mind the chance of losing another video card, then go right ahead.

Or you could take it to a computer diagnostic shop and dispense with the guesswork.

I think you'll fit in here nicely.

He's talking about actual mission teleportation (to the contact), not the main entryway.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I would imagine that many players miss that because one has to click on the pillar of flame again after clicking "Leave". Then you have the option to "Teleport to Contact".
  7. [*]Mission NPC's would STAY cowering in corners instead of bumping me all over the map.
[*]Street NPC's would do an emote upon being saved from baddies. i.e. ;cheer ;clap ;dance5 ;praise ;score10 ;thumbsup ;welcome
[*]Street NPC's wouldn't always be spouting such glowing praise about my heroes. They would also say things that are indifferent, disapproving, or even crazy.
[*]Outdoor areas would have periodic (not looping) 'nature' sounds. Frogs by water, crickets and even fireflies at night.
[*]All groups would have death aggro (for those times when a snipe takes out somebody in the back and the rest of the group miraculously misses that).
[*]It would be impossible to miss destructible objects. Likewise with held/slept/stunned targets.
    [*]Snipe attacks wouldn't miss.
[*]Origin Powers would have big buffs to damage, effects and duration.
  8. Oh and out of curiosity, which 60 month badge holders out there don't have a lvl 50?
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    Pfffft hahahaha.

    Ohhh god no.

There are people who have played since beta and don't have a 50 because they are the lovely hybrid of casual and alt lovers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I mainly used the HEAT/VEAT example because it is the first account-wide 'flag' that I thought of. Account-wide access that unlocks at a say level 30 or at the 3 month Veteran badge would also suffice.

The point I wanted to convey is to give brand new players time to learn the game before giving a level 1 player access to critter behaviour that they normally would never have to deal with until they are more experienced.

this kind of change could ultimately fix many negative aspects of AE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Negative aspects? I thought you said there was nothing wrong with it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes I did. Edited to communicate what I meant.
  11. Yes, really. It is an incredibly powerful tool that players can use to show off their creativity with critter creation, story writing and plot development. I love finding gems from Stories & Lore It really is an amazing addition to CoX.

Then there is the matter of how AE was implemented. A quote that fits in service type industries and certainly fits here is "You can't please all of the people all of the time". Yet there is still that necessary balance of giving the current playerbase enough to keep them 'happy' and giving brand new players reason to join CoX while not overwhelming them.

Yes there will always be more and more information for players to 'digest' as new issues keep getting released. However new players aren't immediately affected/overloaded by that until it becomes level appropriate or unless they seek that information it out on their own. Enemies start simple and become more complex and harder to beat. Travel starts out being mostly safer city zones, and progressively becomes more dangerous. Enhancements start out very simple and relatively cheap, and more quickly become much more complicated, not to mention expensive. Then there is AE which tends to be the equivalent giving a child an automobile to drive before they've learned to ride the bicycle.

HEAT and VEAT creation options are given to players once they achieve their first level 50 character. Could the same condition not also be required to play AE TF's or use AE in general? There is already a level requirement in place for non-AE TF's, so the precedence already exists. Yes this would be a [u]huge[u] alteration, but this kind of change could ultimately fix many of the negative byproducts of AE.

    Please discuss.

Well, under Lighthouse and Ex Libris, we would get 7 days notice for a freespec, not 4. We'd be asked if there were any deal breaker bugs on Test that have to get fixed before it went Live. The day before, we'd be shown a draft live patch notes for feedback and corrections. And the day before, we'd be asked to compile all the guides for the issue to be ready.

If this really is I15, I will be *very* disappointed with the Producers and Community Service people. Very.

    [/ QUOTE ]
With each new issue there is less and less quality control.

The current mindset of Paragon Studies seems to be, Dazzle the players with new shiney stuff and they will forget what is broken.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I hate to admit it, but I had an issue when I installed my 9600 GT.

Are you sure you are plugging the monitor into the correct output from the card?

Can you walk us through what you are doing when installing the card, plugging in the monitor, etc?

    [/ QUOTE ]
According to the OP's very first post, the card was not a fresh install. It was working fine and now it doesn't.

Nightphall, you haven't even responded to the most relevant post in this thread (3rd post even).

This is not how the information should be reporting. Something is seriously borked here. It should look closer to the following.

    So a few questions..

    1. Is your post code one short beep?

    2. You seem to indicate that when powering on, even the startup screen doesn't show (bios version, RAM check, etc). Is that correct?

    3. Did [u]anything[u] change on your computer just before this problem? Such as new driver/hardware installs, driver/hardware updates, Windows Updates, virus/malware scan, hard computer shutdown (due to power failure or etc), or anything else you can think of?

As far as pure 'vanity' items um.. YES we have them and I'm a bit surprised that nobody has brough them up yet. Weapon Customization is the epitome of a vanity item.

    [ QUOTE ]
    3. Forbin, gotta disagree with you on that one. Enhancements are our items, and most of them are definitely more than "for show and vanity". HOs, set enhancements, purples especially...definitely not vanity loot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I understand why people might share that point of view, but I don't consider enhancements items because unless we use a respec they are effectively permanent attachments, and they don't affect our characters appearance in any way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They don't have to affect character appearance to be "items". Aside from the appearance part, they serve the same role gear does in other games. Sorry, but you're just plain wrong here. And it is not a matter of opinion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, I actually agree with DT here.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
as [u]any one person[u] could prevent any mission from being acceptable.

Which would end up being abused by both sides. I really don't see anything like this being implemented ever.

  17. Known issue, and discussed rather frequently.

Here is one of the more verbose threads on it.
  18. Good choice on CPU and Motherboard. If you are looking towards a 9800 GTX+ then might I suggest the GTS 250 instead. Yes they are mostly the same, but the GTS 250 delivers a little more power while consuming less wattage.

I agree that heat is probably not an issue here, so lets look at other causes first.

Faulty RAM tends to cause a BSOD, but the wrong RAM voltage settings tend to cause system instability. That is worth double checking at least.

Speaking of possible system instability, that particular ASUS motherboard is easy to overclock. Did the pre-builder do any overclocking? (If a company did the build, which one?)

All in all my first guess would be the PSU. That is more of a pain to swap out though so I would try the less time consuming ideas first. Could you link the exact model?
  19. Most used: Luminary for the same reason Catwhoorg gave.

My favorite though is Mirror Spirit. I covet her costume every time I see it. I also covet her powerset.. and what I could do with a Fulcrum Shifted Nova...

    ;e day dreaming
  20. The power descriptions are full of inconsistencies. For instance, powers with the same recharge time will use different descriptions.

Voltaic Sentinel (60 sec) Recharge: Very Long
Power Boost (60 sec) Recharge: Long

Total Focus (20 sec) Recharge: Long
    Stun (20 sec) Recharge: Slow

I basically ignore the token descriptions and use "Show Detailed Info" when picking new powers.

Alright, it's clear that this has degenerated into silliness once the outright insults start to fly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm. So it's okay when you do it, but when I give the same back it's "silliness" and "outright insults starting to fly". Alrighty then... If you can't take what you give, you should stay out of it in the first place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Flying off the handle.. how typical. JeNeSaisQuoi did nothing to justify your vitriolic response.

You seriously need some anger therapy.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
6 and a half hours to update this? You have to be kidding. I'm on a high-speed cable connection and the download didn't get above 140k a second.

Also, what's with the amateur message board design from the 90's?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Did you even bother to try the above link from FatherXmas, or were you too busy complaining?

The majority of players get their downloads in a timely manner. This means that more than likely, your download problems are due to problems either between your ISP and CoX, or on your end.

Do whatever makes you feel better. It will be fixed when the Devs get around to it.
