Wings in Granite Armor

Im a long time granite'r and the only thing that bugs me, is how every granite armor toting player looks the EXACT same. Power customization looks like it will help alot in this department. But I know I had heard about Auras appearing in Granite, any reason this was not done? And of the same token, my character is a stone demon, and it would be some serious love to see some wings poking out the back of my giant rocky form. Any chance of seeing these?

my guess is no. they use an already exsisting granite skeleton, hence the height change from your original toon to granite form. so what you are seeing in granite form is just like when they do the halloween costumes durring the halloween event.

Back Alley Brawler had already made a post about this, stating that is was possible, and doable, that it would only take a minimal effort on their part to do.

My question is why wasn't this done? Granite is so bland, I look exactly the same as the other 6 stone brutes when I'm chilling around the AE water cooler. It would definitely benefit from sprucing up.

If you are really asking us (the players) whay wasn't something done, I'm afraid we really can't answer you. You seem to have already found something from BaBs that partially answers your question. PM him to ask "why wasn't it done?"

OTOH, if this is a suggestion to allow power customization of Granite Armor's appearance, sure, why not, but it looks like it's coming soon anyway.

I guess I will do that, was just asking if anybody remembered the outcome of that thread, because I have tried in vain to find it, to no success, unfortunately.

Why on earth are you in granite form if you are just "chilling around the AE water cooler?"

It is a toggle, you know?

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

Because FX, such as wings and auras, are tied to your avatar, which is completely replaced by another avatar when one toggles GA. This used to be the same for any Earth Armor (stone, Magma, Crystal, etc.), but currently only happens for GA. Consider GA as another costume, but one you cannot edit (at least not yet).

In order to have wings and auras for GA, you'd essentially need the ability to edit the GA avatar. Although Positron's heavily hinted that powers will be color-tintable come I16, we don't yet know if graphics and effects will be able to be edited. Even if they are, we'll most likely be limited to a pool of effects developed by the dev team. If that's the case, having a GA model with stony wings might be a good S&I to have them add to alternate GA effects.

First off, I don't recall ever saying this...and I seriously doubt I would say anything like 'minimal effort'.

Having things like wings or auras carry over into Granite Armor is possible, much in the same way that seeing mankind one day walk on the surface of Mars is possible. However, as I mentioned in the response to your PM, it's not currently supported.

We do support persisting custom weapons--which are as much a costume piece as wings and auras--into Granite Armor mainly because we kind of had to. But that is a hardcoded exception. I don't know if the same kind of exception could be made for Wings and Auras (it seems to me that it could) but I don't know that for a fact and I don't know what the ramifications of doing so would be.

As others have pointed out, turning on Granite Armor actually functions by changing your entire costume into the 'costume' of an NPC. That is an attribute of the power itself, even outside of the scripts associated with powers that define animations or visual effects. Granite Armor, Dwarf Form, and Nova form are pretty unique in this regard.

I really thought something to that effect had been said, but obviously I was wrong. I must be losing my perception on reality lol. First time a redname posted in a thread I started! :P

There was a looooooong discussion about this (auras in granite specifically) a while back (1.5yrs IIRC). The conclusion was that if it would be made possible for auras to carry over into granite, then there should be an option to allow or disallow (show/not show) it, because some people didn't want it. Changing costumes to a costume slot w/o an aura was deemed an unreasonable hardship by some.

Personally, I would like to see auras for granite, but not wings. But that's for purely personal aesthetic reasons. I can't think of a single wing-set that I think would look good with granite. I imagine the only solution that would please everyone would be to allow it, but have a character-based on/off switch for both wings and auras. That way, there should be no reason for whining on either side.

Of course, that doesn't mean that somebody won't.

That was the thread I was refering to. I had thought a redname had said something like "We could, but is that really something that you guys would want." 1.5 years ago sounds about right... It was during the open beta of i10 or i11 I think. Since the forums for those betas are closed, I had no way to locate the thread.

plummeting with style?

Yeah well, I still want helicopter blades.

The wings would look ok if they was something like a living statue look. Like a gargoyle. To match what granite looks like.

Wouldn't stone wings be a Jay request?

Maybe he could slip them into the Mutant booster pack!

I aint the one that wants wings for granite. But if I did I would want stone wings like the links on the page before this one. I dont think Jay would even bother with the ideah really. A mutant booster pack would be nice.

a little OT here but with Granite armour it would be cool to get to shade it diffrent colors like red black blue green or brown. jsuttell me that would not be awesome

Be nice if all granite tanks in granite didnt have to all look the same. Yeah, at least be able to change the color of it....at least.

it would be a really cool feature to be able to customize granite when making the character.
