Hi, I'm Basilisk. I'm an "04 Vet", as you put it, and I support the idea of putting systems in the game to allow new players to access vet rewards. I do not, however, support ignorant jerks like you who seem to think there is some global conspiracy against you. Let's think before we generalize, shall we?

That being said, I don't like the idea of the vet rewards simply being handed out through a pay system. That just encourages a different type of stratification — people with money vs. people without. What I would like to see is for the various costume rewards to be made available through the invention system. The vets then have the advantage of being able to access them for free at character creation, but they are nonetheless accessible to whoever needs wings or a trenchcoat to fill in their character concept. The other abilities could be made into temp powers, which cannot be crafted if you already have the vet one.

As far as City Traveller goes, I don't know how that could work with the invention system. Personally, I would be fine with simply opening the travel pools to everyone and being done with it, but I doubt the same goes for everyone. My enjoyment of a feature is not predicated on the fact that other people don't have them.
  2. I would like to ask that animations that share the same basic animation as the Super Strength powers which have been given another animation be allowed to share in the alternate animation associated with it.

Foot Stomp, for example, has an animation which is shared by Stone Melee's Fault and Ice Melee's Frozen Aura. The primary difference being the effect that plays with it. It would be nice to be able to use Fault as a ground punch. Other Animations reused include Haymaker in Havoc Punch and Bonesmasher, and I'm sure many others among the various ATs.

While it may not be easy to transfer these directly, hopefully it is the low-hanging fruit that is at least easier to transfer so that all of these powers are treated equally, seeing as most of the resources are already in the game.

  4. You mean like Dual Pistols? Fire/Cold/Toxic/Lethal there. Assault Rifle, for that matter, with Fire/Lethal
  5. The biggest thing that I'm seeing right now is the Basilisk's Gaze sets in Freezing Touch. FT is your single hardest hitting attack, and you're really doing yourself a disservice by throwing hold sets in it. It's like slotting KO blow with holds.
  6. Star Trek online has this... kinda. It doesn't play your files, but it provides a remote control embedded in the in game UI from which you can control one of a list of separate media players, like iTunes and Windows Media Player.

I play with two monitors and so changing songs is just as easy for me to click out of the current window, so I don't use it much. I honestly don't know how much use I would get out of it if I didn't, though. At best, I would say "sure, if the devs wanted to work on it while taking a break from something else, why not?" but I certainly don't see a media player being the kind of thing that would justify hours of development time otherwise.

I'm really of two minds on this. The first build has OG for the extra mitigation, but much less defence, as well as less KB protection. The second is softcapped with CoD, and even has a little bonus to give some breathing room, but does not have OG or Soul Transfer.

While I'd love to set both of them up for dual builds and have the best of both worlds, I don't even know if I'll have the commitment to set up one build, much less two. So all things being equal, what is the better way to go? Or is there an even better option?
  9. I have to wonder if the Mystic Fortune buffs can be set to only affect teammates. It would eliminate the problem of drive-by buffing, while not severely impacting the effectiveness of the power.

That said, Mystic Fortune is one of the drive-by buffs that bug me the least. Most of the time, you're getting buffs as you're running from one place to the other and it's gone by the time you get there. It's a waste of time and you're stuck with the effects without ever getting any real benefit from it. Mystic fortune, since it lasts so long, usually ensures that you will at least get to use it.
  10. I agree that the train stations could stand to match their locales. Just brainstorming a couple of ideas based off the current template of one entrance, one exit, and an elevated platform, I came up with a few possibilities of what could be done:

An older style platform, which would fit better in the brick and steel parts of Paragon, like Brickstown and King's Row

A more modern-looking station, for places like Steel, Galaxy and Talos.

Coupled with the one we have in-game already, there's most of the zones covered.

I also agree that a number of "life necessity" buildings would be nice to see around the city. Markets, shopping malls, fire halls, convention centres, and so on. Someone above mentioned one unique piece of architecture per zone, but I really think it should be more like one unique piece of architecture per neighbourhood, be it a cathedral, a supermarket, an arena or whatever. Something that would let us give directions based on these landmarks and not be ambiguous.
  11. With smartphones and iPhones on the rise, and cell phone internet access generally more prevalent, would there be any interest in a mobile version of the forums and/or the Official site designed to render better on a mobile platform?

I have an LG Xenon and tried to access the forums on it this morning during a break in one of my classes. They weren't completely unusable, but it certainly wasn't a user friendly browsing experience. Basically, it would just be a pared down version of what we have, with text and layouts designed to show better on a small screen, as well as fewer graphics. There's been some call for the ability to do something CoH related on the iPhone, so this might work to appease that too.

It's not an essential thing, but I think it would be nice. It'd give a new way for me to kill time when I'm bored and have my phone handy.
  12. Basilisk

    Terrible Twos

I seem to remember someone doing this back in the day, calling it project "Forever Young". If I remember the story right, they got fairly high in level, but were politely asked by the GMs to level the character because they kept getting petitions because they were soloing level X enemies as a "level 1".

Still, I love to see projects like this. I say go for it.
  13. Stacking armours- Tanks only being able to run one armour at a time really sucked.

For that matter, the change from "Unyielding Stance" to "Unyielding" was also a really nice change. Forced immobilize to use your status protection, not so fun.

Also, the Sonic (blast and buff) and Archery (Archery/Trick Arrow) sets. They're so established by now I sometimes forget they weren't available at launch.
  14. I disapprove. It seems to be missing Poison.
  15. Ok, that's good to know. For the record, I do plan on getting a few set IOs in the build, such as a few -kb (#&$*in knockback...) and probably the +end proc from Theft of Essence. However, I probably won't get many set bonuses in to make a defence build or anything, at least not for some time.
  16. Shortly after the "days offline" counter went in, I logged in one of my characters, then switched to a different one. When I got back to the character select screen, it said the character I had just logged in had been offline for something like 63,597 days.

I really, really wish I'd gotten a screenshot of that.
  17. Well, I got bitten by the concept bug again last night, and made myself up a brand new Dark/Ice tank, and I was wondering what I'm getting myself into with this. I tend to prefer the defence based sets, so this is a bit of a departure for me.

I have a Level 41 WP/Ice tank, so I think I've got a pretty decent grasp on that side of things, but The only character I have so far with Dark Armour is a level 26 Spines/Dark scrapper who is essentially shelved because of a lack of interest.

IO sets probably won't come into the picture on this character to any significant degree either, at least not immediately since I have a lot of resources currently going to a number of other builds. Will this be a significant handicap?
  18. Usually one of a couple of ways:

    a) It's one of my own. This is usually what I do if I'm going into the AE to get a few tickets to buy salvage or something, since I know exactly what to expect, I know how many tickets it produces (roughly), and I know it's a decent story that's not a long string of dick jokes.

    b) It's a friend's. Not much to explain here.

    c) I open the forum and look for someone advertising their arc in their sig. First one I come across gets a play-through. It's not entirely reliable, but still better than trying to sift through the dreck in the AE search window.

  20. I would say, in order from most favourite to least favourite:

    Tanks
    Brutes
    Scrappers
    Corruptors
    Warshades
    SoAs
    Dominators
    Stalkers
    Masterminds
    Blasters
    Controllers
    Widows
    Peacebringers
    Defenders

News to me. Never heard of it until now. Not everyone is familiar with every little landmark, and it's kind of ridiculous to expect people to.
  22. I wouldn't care so much about these unlocks if there were something similar in game to replace it with at character creation. For instance, a basic roman armour set available to everyone at character creation, and the ITF unlocks a "deluxe" version. This way, at least, you're not gating character concepts behind tasks that may well come in at the very end of a character's 1-50 journey.

Sounds like your monitor is screwed up. Incendiary ammo is an orangish-yellow, while chemical rounds are green.
  24. Personally, I feel that there is a problem that needs to be addressed in some sets. In a lot of cases, I feel I can function acceptably on a single end reduction DO in all of my attacks. In just as many, I'm stuck sucking bad wind after each spawn with 1 SO. I find Tanks and brutes in particular are bad, though there are outliers to both ends on the spectrum in every AT. Bringing everything more into line would probably help this perception a lot.

On the other hand, what I think is the bigger problem is Rest. Rest is about as fun as a lap dance from an elephant. Made of acid. And not the kind that would explain why you're getting a lap dance from an elephant, the "OH GOD, WHY IS MY FLESH GONE?" kind. Rest takes you out of the game, and forces you to not play for however long. To me, that is a bad quality for a game to have. And then, if you happen to run out of health or endurance before your timer is back, you can't rest again, which makes an much sense as the lapdancing elephant.

"Oh, god... I'm so tired, but I can't rest again yet. That last bout nearly exhausted me."

    Huh?

I would propose first that they kill the timer on rest. Make cooldown 0. Then, I would suggest that they boost out-of-combat regeneration and recovery significantly. The game obviously can tell the difference, since there are a number of day job powers which only boost out-of-combat abilities (Pain Specialist/Caregiver, Clubber). Heck, maybe even play with the idea of dropping Rest altogether and folding it into the out-of-combat regen/recovery, like a number of other MMOs do.

This way, endurance management is still an issue. If you're uncautious with your powers, you'll end up running dry in the middle of a fight. But once you're out of the fight, you'll recover much more quickly, allowing you to continue on the mission without having to pause and do nothing while your stats recover.
