Thanks a bunch that worked for me, I clicked on AVG and instantly a message popped up and it asked if I wanted to quarantine the City of Heroes installation folder, I clicked "Allow" instead and now City of Heroes runs fine.
Looks like this issue though could be caused by a number of problems though. -
Yes, does the same thing, sometimes with the faint "Loading..." bar and sometimes without it. Both ways it does nothing.
-
I tried to load up the game again today. Opened up the updater, clicked "Next" then clicked "I Agree" and now not even the little bar that says "Loading..." comes up, nothing happens and under the Task Manager it shows the CityofHeroes.exe running at 84k Mem Usage.
-
I'm using a GeForce 8600GT Driver version is 197.45
This is on Windows XP Home SP3. -
I've got this same problem, but updating my video drivers didn't solve anything.
-
I've got this same problem, I was able to get to the live server right after I had installed the new patch. I messed around with Ultra settings for a few then logged off. I came back to try to get on a few hours later and I click on the shortcut, click "Next" and "I Agree" only to come to reach the dull bar that says "Loading..." I've let it sit for an hour and it has done nothing. I've also updated my video drivers.

One of the things that turn me away from a game is micro-transactions. I don't like feeling like in order to have everything the game has to offer, that I have to spend more than the subscription.
On another page, I have noticed how the game has become effortless, one of the things that were really a challenge was getting around, now you can just open up an O-Portal or use a power and you're where you want to be, don't even need a travel power any more. -

I can honestly say that if it weren't for the free server transfers starting back in December that I would have left. The game was getting dull and being able to transfer servers for free kept me from leaving. And honestly once they go away, I'm likely to leave, at least until GR comes out.
Call me a cheapskate but I consider spending $10 to transfer a character to another server which is virtually the same, but just different players a waste of money. -
I'm not saying I wouldn't like this, because I really would...
But the thing that bugs me about it is, Power Customization of colors is one thing, there are only so many colors out there, sure we don't have them all but we have a lot, and if you can't find the color you want there is probably something pretty close to it...
But sounds is kind of like animations, so many different possibilities that is seems unrealistic. And when someone gets what -they- want, you know a different person is going to demand what they -themselves- want.
But nonetheless I would like this, just I don't think it would ever happen, we can't have our cake and eat it too. -
I would actually love this suggestion, reason I never play any Tanks is because of the damage output. I like to solo more than anything and would very much like to play a toon that can take just about whatever is given to them. Only toon of mine that can really do this is my fire/kin, which to say the least is getting very old.
Quote:Ehh, no you don't...Yes I am. But after the third time this guy has suggested the same thing and been told the same thing, I have every right to start jamming it down his throat.
You don't need to troll. Just post why YOU don't think it's a good or bad idea and/or ways to improve it and move on with life. It's pointless arguing in the "For Fun!" section. And once you have stated your point there is nothing more to say, posting the same reply is pointless. -

Honestly this isn't that great of a build. It lacks Flashfire, which is a great power no matter what you're doing. Siphon Speed isn't slotted well it's one of the key powers of kin, if you're talking about farming. You want that getting Triple+ stacked. You're going to want at least 2 acc IOs in FS. There's more reasons but I'm not up to posting them.
In a farming Fire/kin you want a few key things.
Recharge. Some people underestimate how much recharge does for you, with enough reacharge you can have permanent Indomitable Will, which is what I have on my Fire/Kin. With that much recharge no matter how sticky the situation Transfusion and Transference will be up most of the time to assist you.
Siphon Speed, Hasten, Global Recharge
Accuracy. If you don't have accuracy, you're not going to be hitting anything, which if you miss a transference or transfusion it could mean life or death. Also determines life or death of enemies.
Global
Resistance/Defense. You can go with one of the other, but I preffer both. My fire/kin has about 50% res to s/l, 40% res tp psy, 20% res to cold/fire and 10% res to toxic Along with 16% def to s/l 40% def to psy 10% def to cold/fire. It's another key component to staying alive.
Control. You don't NEED Flashfire or Cinders, but I wouldn't ever think about replacing them. Cinders is up every other mob and Flashfire is up every mob. You can run in, get Fire Cages off, hit Flashfire, then Fulcrum Shift and spam Psy Tornado (which for me is up every 4 seconds, has tons of knockdown which keeps me alive in a lot of situations, and has the +rech proc which normally goes off in a decent sized mob), Fire Ball or Fissure. By the time Flashfire wears off you're done with the mob.
Oh and by the way, don't be so humble. -
Aw man, can't believe I missed the player auctions, and it was even held on my birthday too. :\

Quote:I just want to say though, going under the map is considered an exploit, and you could get in trouble for that, specially since you can kill enemies from down there without them being able to touch you...Thanks Michelle,
With those instructions, I found the door he was talking about and have some screen shots in high res for people.
So, as mentioned, you want to go here:
-1630.5 1.3 -6497.3
Here's what it looks like.
Here's a couple of back shots.
Then log off.
Log back on and you're falling.
Pop your map and select the Arena. Then fly towards it.
You don't want the box DIRECTLY under the arena. There's a pair of them below it.
Get all the way underneath and do a /stuck. Your system may freeze a sec, don't worry.
Metadata gives me this: coh:x=911 , coh:y=-1048 , coh:z=-3607
As noted, you're going to need some way out of there.
The Ouroboros portal should work.
The Market or Base teleporters should work.
A teammate with Team TP or ATT should work.
The Pocket D VIP Pass works.
I used to know how to get under Faultline, Atlas Park, Siren's Call, The Hollows and Cap but they fixed them after I had posted the directions to get under those places. Siren's Call was the fun one but I got a temp ban for that. :\ -
Haha I always think of this when listening to music and playing...
Good Wonka (WP/EM Tank) - Indestructible by Disturbed
Wild Wonka (Fire/Kin Controller) - I Stand Alone by Godsmack
Mad Wonka aka Bad Wonka (Fire/Emp Controller) - Dumb by Nirvana (He's my badger and being Fire/Emp makes it abit rough) or BYOB - System of A Down (He's just a poor Fire/Emp why do they always send the poor?)
Live Wire Wonka (EM/WP Stalker) - So many I can think of.... The Prison Song by System of a Down, Search and Destroy by Metallica or pretty much any Rage Against The Machine Song (Thinking Bullet in the head)
Alien Wonka (Fire/Psy Blaster) - Death Before Dishonor by Five Finger Death Punch or Again or Rooster by Alice in Chains, maybe Shot down in Flames by AC/DC
War Wonka (Spines/Dark Scrapper) - Unsung by Helmet or Walk by Pantera
Homicidal Wonka (DM/FA Brute) - Touch Me I'm Sick by Mudhoney or Hair of the Dog by Nazereth
Corrupt Wonka (Energy/Kin Corruptor) - Psycho by System of a Down or Don't You by Candlebox
Raging Wonka (Fire/Psy Dominator) - Wait and Bleed or Duality by Slipknot
Predator Wonka (Bs/Wp Scrapper) - Walk All Over You by AC/DC or Dead Bodies Everywhere by Korn
Widowmaker Wonka (Widow) - My Way by Limp Bizkit or War by Sick Puppies
So many more toons but I'm not going to think of their theme songs right now...
I need to think of which toon's theme song should be Big Balls by AC/DC -
I've only had one genric, so far...
I made a toon named "***** Ape Wonka" as in "Damn that thing is a ***** ape" meaning it's not something to be messed with, or that it's like a bat out of hell.
Someone randomly sent me a message claiming they weren't going to report him, but it is an offense name... I argued that it wasn't, they said it was, then they reported me, I could careless about the name but I didn't like that they claimed it was offense, yet they weren't going to report me.... If you're offended then report it, I could careless. -
Quote:Well there is Hero 1 and the Alpha and Omega Gambit TeamIn my opinion, the Rikti are the side that are the best situated to be claimed as "winning" since they are the only side who purely havent had anybody else set a foothold in their world.
Rikti? At the moment from what we can tell, nobody has set up an assault onto their world succesfull enough to be deemed worthy of mentioning [sure we closed their portal but that only delayed them a few years].
But I think you have it right, I'd say Rikti have a lead but Heroes and Villains have enough numbers to defend ourselves. -
Do people just like to complain?
It's something I see all the time, in-game and on the forums, if them being in Atlas around the trainer really annoys you that much, go to Rikti Warzone to train, or head to Galaxy, I mean since it is an invasion, no enemies will be on the streets so what's the point of sticking around? Sure there are missions, but doesn't mean you can't quickly pop into RWZ and level up then come back to Atlas for your mission.
Geez people, stop complaining, not like it's going to go away, just annoys us other people that don't really care, the people that deal with what they've got. -
Quote:Don't think it works like that, I was farm (yes, farming) set for +4/x6, solo, no bosses spawned.Tangential note: it seems that you're under the impression that your effective team size is the sum of your difficulty setting team size and your actual teammate count, so that being set for 6 and adding one teammate would result in spawns for 7. As far as I know, this is how it works: actual teammates take up virtual teammate slots until they are exhausted, so a team of 2 running missions set for 6 will be fighting 6-man spawns, not 7. Until your actual team size is greater than your virtual team size, you will be fighting spawns generated for exactly your virtual team size.
I'll have to check this later, but I'm pretty sure about it.
I invited a friend to join and bosses started showing up, even though I had bosses turned off, I then turned the difficulty down to +2/x6 and again to +0/x6 and finally realized I had to put the team size down, I put it to +4/x5 and no bosses spawned for me. -
This is always nice, never really had something like this happen to me.
But every time I delete a toon of mine (Normally all my toons carry at least 5 mill) I just run around giving my things away on that toon.
One of the things I miss about AE is that, I made so much bank off of it, I'd give money away like nothing. Once held a CC in Atlas, a friend and I planned on giving away only like 50 mill, ended up giving away 450, everyone who came got a least a million for lining up. And at the end of the contest right as we announced the overal winner, a Rikti Invasion started... It was amazing... -
Well I'm going to admit, I enjoyed AE (Bosses, Hami Bubbles, Those Paragon Protectors) while it lasted and boy was it fun! I've been playing for 2 years and about 6 months...
It was one of the highlights of my time playing, but it's gone now and I don't really care, the game is still fun for me, I farm, I PvE, I PvP, I Market... I do just about everything the game has to offer, and AE being "nerfed" doesn't take away the fun of the other things. (in fact it made marketing easier, with supply of something dropping fast)
I made about 3.9 Billion influence from my time at AE and it was fun, I also helped many of random people level. And yes I did make a few 50s...
Truth is AE isn't "dead" but I don't think it's going to get back to the glory days... It's just crippled, compared to before, but it still can do what it was meant for. (In fact I still see it as the better method of farming since you can buy rare salvage with the tickets)
Anyways my two cents, sure they "nerfed" it but I still find it useful. -
I'm kind of torn between "YES! DO IT!" and "No, come on, that's just lazy".
Before the whole difficulty settings were redone, I would have said this is pure lazy. But I understand what you mean, now you can't just set on one setting and keep going no matter the team size.
If you're running solo and want it set for a team of 6, no higher because you can't handle bosses then you're good... until someone asks "Hey, mind if I join you?" then you have to run back to the Field Analyst or Fateweavers and set it down for 5...
It gets old very fast...
So if they did this, I'd actually invite people when they wanted to join me... But I still don't like that now we've got so many forms of travel, yet they want to make it easy just in case some player out there doesn't like pressing down on the W key more than 3 seconds...
/signed
(Also I think an arc, or a mission from the Field Analysts/Fateweavers would work, have it explain a little background on why we need them around and such... Or what their jobs are for Freedom Corps/Arachnos)
Edit: Oh and at least they took the fee away from changing your difficulty! -
Quote:So your point is... you think things should come to you on a silver platter because you don't find the fun in getting them?Fixed that for you.
There's a very key difference between easy to get, and easy to get by farming.
Tank Buster? Easy to get!
Kill skuls? Easy to get by farming. (but as it's kind of a joke badge, I have no qualms about this one requiring you to go out of your way)
There is a large number of players who find farming to be mind numbing and don't see a point in it, especially when said farming is just for one stupid badge. There's a lot of players who get bored out of their mind running around and killing think that are in the mid-20s, when they're a 50.
so, it's not that we're lazy. it's that we want to have FUN in our game. We don't want to spend hours pointlessly killing things that are to weak to put up a fight, just too get a badge.
The solution COULD be "Well don't badge hunt" .. sure, except of course for the fact that some of these badges are required for accolades. Which kinda turns accolades in to grind-fest "gear".
I mean I wish I could sit and farm missions all day for money to buy purples, but I do not find that fun, still I don't complain about it much, I either get through the boredom and get me the purples or not, I don't ask the devs to increase the drop rate so that my "ultra rares" become "commons".
Work is part of games, god mode doesn't make anything fun, once you have all these badges what is there to do? You've already been there and done that so it isn't much fun on another toon...
And by the way I was talking about gangbuster, I know what untouchable is, our team got it when we were going for gangbuster, we didn't need it we were getting badges for accolades, again it took like 30 minutes of running around St. Martial and we got it, along with Spider Smasher. -
Quote:I badge on my Fire/Emp and my EM/WP, definitely on "speed killer", well EM can be but only single targets.Wonka:
I can guarantee you're a speed killer build, which gives you no room to comment on the ease of kill badges >.>.
Quote:Banisher took me over an hour on an 8 man team farming a mission. (And the posed change puts it in line with all other 'boss' badges.)
Defeat 200 of a boss type that you seldom SEE. Okay yes you can go to certain places to farm them, but.. seriously, if you don't go out of your way to find the masks, and play the game through standard content, how many BP masks will you run in to over the course of your career?
even when I select missions that pit me against the BP, I seldom see the spirit masks, and if I do, it's like .. 2 maybe 3 a mission (even on a large spawn size), and BP is at least very rare in radio/paper missions.
Freak Tanks? I could see being 200 (or more, they're that damn common), but instead it's only 100
BP masks? Nowhere NEAR as common as freak tanks, but twice as many must be defeated for it. What sense does that make?
Quote:Gangbuster/Warden.. you're posing killing 200 and 500 in a very small amount of time. Fine and dandy if you're a spines/fire scrapper, or any other massive AoE destruction build. That time becomes mindnumbingly long and BORING if you're a single target damage build, and heaven help you if you're moderate damage/support.
Quote:The goal on badge changes was not to make them easier. Nor were they about making badges that were "unduly hard, better". No, the exact reasons specified for most of the changes was to help eliminate aberrant player behavior (farming, specifically AFK farming in a lot of instances).
IMHO all badges should be attainable, or at least close to attainable, without farming. The numbers required should be directly proportional to the amount of time a player "should" spend in the level range for said group, and how frequent said group comes up in the game.
