Quote:People will differ on issues of taste regardless of age.I just had a name genericized and the name wasnt even that bad.
what about older players who would like to play in a more relaxed way and not have a moderator ban everything?
So I suggest an 18+ server.
thanks
Not to mention age verification issues, etc.
If there were a spark of wit in most of the innuendo names, or alleged RP of sex addicted characters, or even the occasional phenomenon of someone trying to flirt OOC with a female character (though by now even the most desperate losers have figured out that character gender has nothing to do with who is on the other side of the keyboard), I might be more inclined to say sure, why not.
But there ain't, so I don't. -
I don't see a need to truckle to the D&D imprint for "healers." Some archetypesa can provide healing, and some provide other support. Any gamer lame enough to whine "we need a healer" is not my taste for team mate.
It is very easy for players who like running a high-heal character (I have an emp defender who does rather well at that) to do so, and to advertise for teams on that basis (and they will then get backtalk from the equally inane "there r no h3l0rz in CoH" clowns).
Play your own way, heal or not, whatever suits, and ignore the jackasses who build cookie cutter teams and are snooty about it to boot. -
Space Opera isn't Bab5 and Star Wars (you whippersnapper). Space suits with fishbowl helmets, ray guns, and the Lens of Arisia (OK, that last would be a bit of a gamebreaker).
Renaissance: I'd be all for the one you describe (even though Dumas' novels are set well after the Renaissance - Count of Monte Cristo is post-Napoleonic, come to that) but would call it Swashbuckler. My dual blade Cyrano character would love a good hat with, of course, his white plume. I wouldn't mind a Renaissance costume set either: doublets, swept hilt rapiers, etc. -
More pools: good.
Limiting pools to an Origin: disagree with the premise.
Origins are a blunt instrument. Not all Magic Origins use magic - some have magical knowledge and cast spells (I have a defender who explicitly calls her powers spells, as well as a thugs mastermind), some are powered by magic the same way they would be powered by science or mutation (I forget if I have one, but the original Captain Marvel comes to mind), some have a magical thing but are themselves magical ignoramuses (my archer with the magical longbow that was used at the battle of Agincourt) , some don't use magic but ARE magic (several of mine - one cabalistic avatar, a couple of Egyptian Gods, somje really NASTY pixies in CoV, etc.).
The attraction of great flexibility in CoX is one of its greatest attractions - build to your OWN aesthetic, not someone else's notion of how things work. -
Better AI would seem to me to be essential. If more "difficult" enemies just have more hit points and bigger baddaboom attacks, it's just chopping wood to take them down.
Mind you:
- smarter AI, as someone noted, take more cpu cycles.
- the AI is only as smart as the programmers. If they are not good at tactics, their creations won't be either. -
I picked up the Martial Arts pack a few weeks ago. Ninja Run is certainly a useful tool (kicking in Sprint for an extra "gear"). I loves me my fly to much to stop flying, certainly. I have one or two characters, low level, who are only using NR at present, but don't know if that will be the case forever.
I have been playing long enough to get the traveller bennie, with access to travel at lvl 6. Still pick up a full on movement power earlier rather than later given that advantage. -
Doc - I would prefer not to go through the negatives of a server merge so that I will be available to play the game with you when you feel like it.

Quote:Perhaps if the player is Native American and a member of one of the churches that are specifically exempted from Federal controls, the name is legal? Though remember Smith v Oregon ;-)Mescaline actually presents an interesting case then, since its legal status is not real clear (it's legal in some places for some uses and not legal in others).
PS - sorry my rapidly decaying memory conflated "case law" (ie. bunches of discussions on these forums of genericed names with drug references) with the EULA itself. -
Quote:You would certainly be vulnerable to it, if reported. The EULA is explicit on the subject.I had a cool character concept idea this morning. I wanted to make an illusion controller who has the ability to bring his dreams to life in the real world. To fuel his abilities while awake, he takes a lot of hallucinogenic drugs. The character will likely have references to drugs in both his name and backstory. I'm wondering though if this is likely to get me generic'd for violating the code of conduct. Anyone know?

The problem with moving an SG is who decides, or so it seems to me.
The supreme leader wants to move, some or all of the members do not. Who decides?
Everybody but one member wants to move? Who decides?
Prestige belongs to the SG, earned by all the members. The system has never had a means of giving individual characters "their" prestige if they leave an SG. Well and good. And leaders can milk members for prestige and kick them when they get tired of them. Not a great model but certainly feasible under the rules/program, and with no viable comeback for the members that I ever heard of, other than word of mouth to warn other players about the leader's unpleasant management style.
But in this case, and I must note you were the one who introduced the F-word ("fair") to the discussion, is it fair to let the leader abscond to another server leaving all the members who put prestige into the SG with bupkis?
The sideshow about top SG ratings doesn't really speak to me (but then, I don't join SGs as a general thing). I am more interested in SGs as vehicles for all their members to have a good time rather than as monuments to the leadership. -
Carnies are best hunted working a pattern from:
- the two cargo ships across the island from the ferry.
- from there head north to the center of the island to a block with a warehouse and open storage shed, about hte middle of the map.
- from there head northeast to the open area by the shore, to the east of the big office building a block or two north of the shed.
- and finally, pass through the short alley heading north out of the open park, and look to the left.
Carnies, Nemesis, Rikti, and Malta spawn in those areas, in a pattern which I have been told is tied to time of day, but may as well be random. If some other opponent is in the area, you will cycle through them to Carnis faster if you have the muscle to take out the "wrong" foes standing there. Work back and forth on that route, from the ships to the alley and back.
Higher level Carnies spawn in a few other spots around the island, but they will be beyond you in the low 40s. -

A ban on posturing meta-posts that scold the other posters while letting the OP feel better than them for his or her enlightened position.
Reading further: Ah - let's vote on who gets to speak his piece. Surely, then anyone who gets on the wrong side of the comfy majority can be squelched.
Look, if you have an open forum for brainstorming, then you are going to get a high percentage of chaff for every precious kernel of wheat. -
You ask for "fun." Others respond with the bits they think are fun. Unfortunately, that isn't fun for you. Chacun a son gout.

For a game? I hate external security apparatus ferociously enough for secure systems at work, where it matters enough to use them. Nope, not interested.
-
Hube - As far as leaving the team, I would recommend simply thanking them for the team, saying you need to go for a bit and hitting quit. Any attempt to explain that you prefer to play differently is more likely than not to be taken as "YOU are playing wrong."
E-chat is the very dickens of a medium for anything one says being taken in the worst possible way.
I must agree, I've never been clear myself on bank missions (as either hero or villain) why people go rushing off to meet the Big Bad on his chosen ground, with all his sideboys in tow, rather than setting up a nice killing zone in the lobby (if you are a hero) or at the choke point leading into the vault area (if you are a villain). But chacun a son gout and all that. -

The flurry of "don't wannem to read stuff about WoW" is really amusing.
Professionals in most fields stay current on developments and general information in their fields. They read articles by other people in the their line of work. They are often knowledegeable about the history of previous developments in their field, as well as current state of the art, even in products that compete with their own. -
If they were purists, they could just stick to the Dictionaire Infernale by Colin Plancy.

Zombie has captured the essential problem - puzzles are very quickly populated to the net, or answered in chat. Which may not be a showstopper, as no one has to read hint pages or ask for the solution, but it can take the ginger out of designing the things for developers.

Leaving aside attempts to rationalize the issue based on in-character premises (heroes are not inspired by the same thing villains are, etc.) the trade system at present does not distinguish between different objects. A trade is a trade is a trade. So to prevent sharing inf or salable items, someone needs to write the code.
It may be a project somewhere on the schedule (esp. with GR coming up). But that is the underlying issue.
afterthought - Aha, per Gypsy's post, apparently it IS a project on the schedule with GR coming up. -
Should not be a name policy issue (Valkyries being in the public domain). However, a squad of Wagnerite Ninja may be dispatched from Bayreuth.
-
Skatter - I am confused. Not just by your appallingly weak skills in expository writing (hardly a sin uniquely your own in these forums).
"4.)Lower the price back to a "normal" state. You charged people double for both games, minus a small discout. Now that the 2 are one, why not get competitive with all the other MMO'S financial wise? "
This seems inaccurate or at least wildly out of date. Buying either game gives access to both (and COH and COV have not been sold in separate packages for years). The way you phrase iot also seems to imply that players pay an extra subscription to play both, which has never been the case. So this point really seems to be a complaint that the developers and publisher don't listen because of something they listened to, and changed in the manner you seem to want, years ago.
Point 2 - they just got the project rolled out to change colors on powers - you seem to be angry that they have not created numerous new animations for Mastermind pets as part of phase 1 of customization.
I am not big badger and don't play PvP, so no opinion there. -
Assorted rings (as glove details), bracelets and bracers, medallions, etc. are perennial favorites in costume request threads.
