Venture also believes that it should only be possibly to solo the game on minimal difficulty settings and claims there is not one good person from Praetoria (nevermind all heroic PCs who come from there)

Quote:Silly AND arbitrary/inconsistently enforced.Agreed. In fact just unlock all claw/gun options for SoA. Some of these silly story based restrictions are getting in the way of, you know, fun...
On a similar note, I'd like the Arachnos guns to be made open fro AR blasters, maybe made unlockable via defeating X number of Arachnos, but this is partially becauseone of the Soldier guns is shotgun, the VEAT firearm doesn't even HAVE shotgun power! -
Did you know if you do all the Freedom Phalanx TFs, you can get a special shoulder piece called Epaulets?
If you didn't, it wouldn't exactly shock me too much, this one shoulder piece seems to be the most heavily barred costume piece in the game, unlocking only per-character, only narrowly avoiding being a hero exclusive (alongside the witch's hat), and requiring the completion of six TFs to unlock. With these costume pieces, I believe actually being seven years old, it would seem to me something probably should be done about them.
Well, in this thread maybe we can discuss just that. Should it be left alone as the ultimate achievement? Should we change it in some way? And how can we make it possible for pure villains to get it? Would it be possible to get the devs to agree with any change we would want? Well, let's just find out.
To open the floor and start the bid low, I would like to propose maybe either opening this up as costume pieces you can buy for empyrean and/or astral merits, making the unlock account wide, and/or putting them up in the paragon market in some way. And yes, I do see the barring of these pieces to be a problem.
Edit: 6 years ago, it was added six, pardon me. -
Quote:Anti-matter: NO! WE ARE NOT ORDERING CHINESE FOOD AGAIN! WE HAD IT LAST NIGHT!Did he murder Metronome simply to take more credit or was there something else to it? I mean, we interact with Metronome a lot, and he's never seemed sane at any point.
I'm prepared to believe that they were in the lab, an argument started, and the two of them ended up trying to kill each other.
Russel: WELL YOU ALWAYS ORDER PIZZA WITH BELL PEPPERS! YOU KNOW I HATE BELL PEPPERS!
Anti-Matter: THEN JUST PICK THEM OFF THE PIZZA!
Russel: JUST ORDER HALF OF THE PIZZA WITHOUT BELL PEPPERS!
Anti-matter: WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO TO HELL!
Russel: YOU FIRST! -
Quick question: any idea about what it means in the description about having a sense of "dramatics"?

To be honest, it's not entirely an unreasonable complaint. The problem is just that the Devs basically shot themselves in the foot, or Jack Emmert deliberately shot them in the foot, by tying Patron Pools heavily to an RP story concept, even though Jack was surprised to learn people role played in the game to begin with.
This means that while it might be a good idea to automatically open up patrons pools for heroes and villains alike, it's not an easily accepted idea by even the present Devs.
Patron pools also are not exactly more powerful, but they do function on a radically different design set than APPs do, which tend to be much more specifically geared to the AT it's going to, even when APPs were proliferated, adjustments were STILL made. (and in my opinion, it resulted in doms getting infinitely better APPs than controllers)
Meanwhile, from what I've seen, the Patron pools were straight ports with no variation, ultimately ignoring how well or poorly it might fit the designated heroside AT equivalent.
In summary, I agree with you, but I don't think anyone else will, most of all, not the people who it would matter to, and even I might like some explanation to this. But maybe that's why there's so many hints at Scirocco potentially going rogue in the future. -
Quote:Interesting fact I discovered about Ancestrals Sorcerers is that while their powers are graphically and mechanically similar to time manipulations and kinetic melee, they are actually defined as things like "Ancestral Torrent", "Spirit Strike", so forth.
Well, how about that!
My own ideas -
Carnies: Lion tamers. Whip attacks like the Demons whip, only colored purple and doing psi damage, and the Beast Mastery lion pets.
Nemesis: Cavalry lieutenants. THAT STEAM HORSE NEEDS TO BE IN THE GAME.
Council/Fifth Column and Malta: Give 'em some Snipers. Actual Snipers, like the Nemesis and Crey ones - like, as a second version of the Marksman enemies for the Council and Fifth, and some new guys in ghillie suits for Malta. Also, make Crey snipers appear more.
Midnight Squad (Primal Earth non-zombie version): Red lightning. It'd make perfect sense for some Midnighters to be of Mu ancestry, and a cool bit of flavor.
Devouring Earth: Why do none of the existing mobs use Plant Control powers? I propose "Spore pods" - stationary objects, similar to turrets, that spam Creepers at anything nearby. -
anyone else notice the banner ad for the amplifiers seems to be a vague parody of The Insult That Made a Man Out of Mac?
-
Randomly, as I was playing through the Vincent Ross arc with a friend, I couldn't help but think that the Midnight Squad really needs non-living armor bosses. Maybe they could use staff melee combined with something else like the Dream Doctor.

Okay, but does the 'why' really need to extend beyond individual power origins? I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm just curious.
I mean I've been kicking around an idea in my head form y own superhero universe, and one of the things I had for the longest time was the explanation that Super Powers came about due to an event that, literally, rewrote all of reality and history known as "The Resonance."
But as I developed the world more I realized: okay, so I'll know what caused this, but at the same time this meta-origin of super powers honestly adds little to any of the stories I have planned. So why should I bother with it as an author, and would any reader seriously find mention of it as anything meaningful when it has no weight beyond the story than 'just 'cause'. -
Quote:Well, kind of of sort of. I don't think it's that bad.I'm not sure how in-canon the novels are, and I sincerely hope that this is never followed up on because it removes pretty much the sole reason there is to make your own hero in this universe. Without that, we may as well be borrowing other people's signature characters for a spin.
To be honest though, I've never gotten why in these kinds of settings it needs to be explained Why there are supers to begin with. -
I really sometimes wonder why Venture continues to play when I don't think I've ever seen him say something positive about the game in his forum posts? I mean, caustic as even folks like Sam and I are, we STILL find and praise good aspects of the game.
Maybe his forum criticisms are meant to be a ruse so we never suspect 'his' real identity to be Golden Girl. Or maybe Golden Girl's a front for Venture? -
My favorite speculation is that it's somewhere in Florida, mostly due to the river island formation and large stretches of flat swampland.
Also, the same person put it: "We already have massive cities built on artificial islands with sprawling underground networks, where everyone is supposed to be happy and the place is meant to be an ideal place, we call them Theme Parks."
It led to me imagining Marcus Mouse (Or Mickey Cole), Dominnietrix (or Minnie Duncan), Anti-Duck, and Goofy as Neuron. (Just imagine the Tin Mage TF with Neuron rushing in... and slipping and giving the Goofy yell as he crashes past the player party) -

The Dagger's abilities are apparently meant to function almost like the dimensional grounding ray in the Reichsman TF, only apparently on a much more grand, permanent, and thorough scale.
Against Rularuu it was supposed to basically rip out everything he ever ate and pretty much kill him, though I guess Silos' tampering made it only shatter him into multiple pieces.
Without Mot's support, Diabolique would just disappear in a puff of ectoplasm and Mot would lose the last of his outside world connection, leaving him powerless.
Based on these, I conclude that the Dream Doctor is the Co-Verse version of the Nasu-Verse's Zelretch, only a lot less fun, and that the Dagger of Jocas was actually based off of Medea's Rule Breaker. (which destroys contracts and connections.)
And to think, he could have just had Shirou trace another one if he wanted to kill Rularuu. Unfortunately, we'll only be getting psionic melee and not full on psionic weapons. So we'll never truly be able to TRACE ON! much less Pray UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS. -
A Dark Ring Mistress or a Succubus, I mean you have to explain that you don't disapprove of them because they're girls, but because they're LITERAL soul eating... Something adjective that encompasses both.
Edit: bonus points if you then make a followup arc where you play the girl's latest boy/girlfriend and must defeat all of her evil Exes. Possibly with the father as the final boss. -
So, having played through the game, in your opinions, what enemies do you think could stand to be added to some existing enemy groups?
For me, I think for one, the Freakshow needs a Pyro-Tank. As the name implies, the guy belts out fire, his cybernetics are half-melted, and instead of a chance to resurrect himself, he instead has a chance to EXPLODE in a HUGE conflagration that hurts everyone around him.
Another thing: Malta needs a sniper. I mean they're an elite black ops group, and they don't have any sort of stealthy, long ranged assassins? I mean I get a lot of heroes are tougher than just being killed by a bullet to the head, but just as many are not so immune. But again. it's ultimately just the concept of how strange it is for a special black ops group to not make use of such a thing. -
Okay, I get why reskinning, but why office maps specifically, though this has been sort of answered, second opinions or even Dev explanation might be nice.
Also, why can are the Knives of Artemis apparently opposed to stairs? I mean if you go through their temple, anywhere stairs would be in an office map, they instead have platforms that look like over sized, Japanese dinner tables.
Also, I agree with Leo that we need more reskins of more than just office maps. -
So, in some of the newer unique maps, I can't help but notice they're just office reskins, and... painfully obvious ones at that. For example, there's the Zig high security ward in the DA Arcs, there's the KoA temple in Tibet (which also suggest KoA cannot into stairs) , and then there's the Eternal Prison in the Night Ward arcs. Which feels a bit like the most egregious example since they deliberately did not use some of the more outstanding office rooms, but still ended up using ones with little side rooms where break areas or offices would be put.
So what's up with just reskinning office maps with random textures? -
Hey, I just realized something: Won't the Quills of Jocas work pretty well against the Battalion? I mean, they're pretty much completely dependent on the Wells they've collected.
Also, as a random note: I'm now theorizing The Battalion... Is actually just one person. But they have an army at their command or can summon all the races linked to the Wells they consumed. They are called "The Battalion" by the Rikti because their command could not possibly believe ONE person could be so strong. -
Quote:Well it makes sense he'd stay fit in the flesh (though it must really suck since if he works out too much, his muscles won't fit in the suit either, so he has to keep a fairly exact shape) but once he was energy, how would he count calories exactly? I mean wouldn't it make more sense that DW just restored his form from before he was energized?I gather from the FREEDOM PHALANX novel that before the accident, he stayed in good shape because there's not exactly a lot of room in the armor for pudginess. As for once DW gave him his body back, one would think that if Posi had even an iota of sense, he'd do everything he could to maintain that level of shape.

And people wondered what exactly Sorina sees in him...

Also, I thought what Sorina saw in him was his biochemical makeup which made for potent pheromones she was sensitive too. -
I once saw someone do something similar except with a trio of master minds. Might have been a quartet, but I think they were all robotics/FF, and their costume themes were all robots. So you had a total of about 21 to 28 robots running around, stacking forcefields and firing their lasers.
That's certainly one way to have a robot army. -
This might be a bit tricky to pull off. I mean lolcats might seem obvious, but it's heavily text based.
About the only one I can imagine that wouldn't require some real work is Epic Fail Guy, and even then.
