You know, I was about to suggest a cone bases, shuriken swarm attack. I especially like the idea of it technically being multiple attacks so that dodging it once does not promise safety from the others.

Actually, my long standing theory is that Neuron got tired of Bobcat being a wildcat and... Has done things to her to "civilize her". Assuming he didn't just kill her, toss her body into the underground to feed the ghouls and make a whole new bobcat from scratch that caters better to his personal fetishes.
Suddenly makes Anti-matter's thing for Dominatrix not seem quite so scary in my mind.

Though on a more meta note, I had come to take Bobcat's redesign into Boobcat as a parody/insult to typical catgirl characters.

Edit: I just tried this, and it didn't look so bad, but the suit itself would need to be red with a blue tie, going with a blue suit and red tie makes it looks like Statesman should be in a courtroom shouting "OBJECTION!"
  5. Enhancement sets, Warburg nukes and other super powerful temp powers. It would be worrisome if the model started to lean towards "paying for power."
  6. I think the real problem with attempting to redesign Swan's outfit is that it's hard to get something that compliments her physique* without being slutty. I propose this alternative, when one thinks of the word 'swan',what do we think of BESIDES beautiful but snooty birds?
Ballet of course! So we can dress her Odette from Swan Lake.

I'll admit, I have NO IDEA why a ballerina would be fighting crime through psychic powers, but heroic ballerina's are never exactly out of the question.

*This is kind of ironic, since, according to my mom's own accounts of ballet, a voluptuous build is supposedly seen as too cumbersome and heavy.

    NPC Redesign.

I'd also say, if you can open up the AE editor, to use the Council SMG or the Military Assault Rifle to keep in line with them ultimately being a street gang.
I will admit that I do like the hostile face with the five 'o' clock shadow, it helps make the Trolls look older like City of lore insists the gang members are.* I also gotta agree that maybe a paler green should be used.

*Easy to see Tsoo, Family, Family, Arachnos (even though I imagine Lord Recluse doesn't mind Child Soldiers), and Sky Raiders in their, but I can never shake the mental profiling of Freakshow, Warriors, Hellions. Outcasts, and Trolls consisting of a lot of men as young as their latter teenage years to maybe mid-thirties tops.

The hair color could be explained as dye, but why the heck is Aurora's skin considerably darker than Mother Mayhem? Does standing outside in IP give that much of a tan?
Actually, from what I can see their skintone match up, one's just higher res.

  10. Generally, when picking an origin, I go expressly with where the most supernatural aspect of their two primary power sets come from.

In this case I would probably say you could narrow it down to tech or science, and personally I would learn most towards the latter.

    Dreck.
He's supposed to be the 'leader' of the Freakshow, the first one to augment themselves with cybernetics, the first one to juice up on Excelsior, and all he has to show for it is a cybernetic arm, a metal plated hand, and being big.
He doesn't look nearly as interesting as his Tanks, or Bile (who is unnaturally thin beyond Player character levels), or Clamor.
He looks like an over sized Enforcer Smasher.

Dreck, out of any other NPC mentioned here, could DEFINITELY stand for a revamp.

Okay, allow me to detail what /I/ think might personally fit Dreck, it would also kind of go out of the art aspects and into powers as well, but basically something like this:

-Cybernetic legs and arms. He doesn't have to be head to toe death machine like the Tanks, but maybe he could do well with how the Super Stunners get by

-Guns, Guns everywhere/More dakka. There's something a little weird about Excelsiot apparently granting him radiation blast powers, I would have thought Dreck would be the kind totally into having flamethrowers, gatlings guns, and grenade launchers installed on him when he couldn't fit on something smashy or slashy. Heck, to be honest, these weapons don't have to even be functional, just take the models for a bunch of weapons and duct tape them onto him and it'll work because Dreck is insane and out to cause (or at least look like) as much destruction as possible... Even if those extra weapons are just for show.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Essentially all the players I talk to seem to find the art on that charcter a little too plain and static, and the posts I've seen in this thread rarely mention the original Hamidon among their favorite designs. Let us know why it's awesome. That's what this thread is all about--what resonates with you and why.
This gets me thinking, do you think we might see an "All things art: NPC Update/revamp" thread? It seems like it would be appropriate with the recent CoT feedback, the various talks on both the suggestions and Ideas forum, and with Zones and other things being revamped.
  13. I'll support this suggestion.
Other level fifty groups we could face off with could include...

    -Vanguard: For Villains and Rogues

-Banished Pantheon: For Heroes and Vigilantes (there is a level fifty version of them...)

-Army of Rularuu: For all four groups

-Rularuu Reflections: For all four groupds

    -Kheldians/Nictus: For all four groups

    -Ghosts: For heroes and vigilantes

-Paragon Police Department: For villains and Rogues

Reichsman is taller than Statesman. Both are supposed to be Marcus Cole. I haven't compared Emperor Cole yet, but he doesn't appear to exceed States in height. I haven't included Imperious in this comparison as he is an entirely different individual.

Marauder is alot taller than Back Alley Brawler. Both are supposed to be Micheal White. One could argue that all those "health supplements" and "special medication" have had an effect on Marauders physiology, but its a bit roundabout.

Valkyrie is taller than Battle Maiden. Now this one is debatable as it's entirely possible that Battle Maiden isn't Valerie Kellum. In fact she isn't even a Praetorian native (she's from War Earth).

I expect there are others but those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

So.. um... yeah, what's up with that?
I believe the reasons Reichsman, Marauder, and Battle Maiden are actually taller is to make them easier to see when people are fighting them during TFs and Trials.
In fact, I'm certain the Contact Marauder model that may also be used in the normal Praetorian arcs is actually shorter than the Trial version.
I speculate this since I notice Nightstar is a hell of a lot taller in the BAF than she is as a trainer.
  15. To add my own two inf to this:

First and foremost is Statesman. People can say what they like about him, but the moment I saw him on the cover of City of Heroes, I knew he was a super hero, and the kind that punched through walls, flew through the air, and created diamonds by running coal through his digestive tract.

Next up is Synapse and Miss Liberty, who are also VERY definitively superheroes at a glance.

On the villains side of things, all of the patrons are great representations of comicbook villain outfits, though I must say that for some reason, Lord Recluse has always struck me as a little 'too busy' in his appearance. Eight legs from his back, all joined to a dias on his back with Arachnos symbol, a fuzzy, feather boa that has a purple cape, all while wearing a mushroom helmet.

Now I saw this in spite of the fact that I often feel many NPcs could use Revamps in appearance and powers, including but not limited to many of those I just mentioned. But there's just one thing: I can say Statesman needs a shield, a full Corinthian Helmet, Grecian Bracers, greaves all I want, but that'll only take away from his "iconic superhero look" in the long run.

That might work, my own thoughts on improving them involved basically making them use a sword version of dark melee, lots of tohit debuff, a siphon life with a sword, and possibly throw in something like tenebrous tentacles projected from a sword slash.

I also have to agree with other folks that it's not just the Thorn Wielders that can feel oddly placed in the levels, I speak this also as someone who values enemy groups with diversity in their ranks across the level ranges and often find myself wondering what makes certain enemies 'worthy' of making it to the high level game and not others. (For example, why does the succubus (with about three or four powers) go up higher than the hellfrost (who has about five or six)? Why can't we have all these guys together at the high leven ranges instead of just Behemoth, Ice Thorn caster, and Death Mage spam? And why can't heroes get a chance to fight succubi or hellfrosts (I think there's a good reason for for hordelings since they're related to the *spoiler* in Cap Au)? And wouldn't it be cool if instead of fighting Madness Mages at the levels before we had either mez protection, decent mezzing abilities of our own, or the ability to simply overcome their mezz durations with raw damage to fight boss versions of the Thorn Casters?

This overall makes me hope that the Devs could consider slightly more than just a visual revamp of the CoT. They don't even need new powers exactly, just shuffle the level ranges around a little.

So I'd like to suggest a 5th power for those other pools. These powers would be different in intent from the new travel powers. These powers are intended for alternate progression through pool requirements whereas the new travel powers are more as an alternative high tier power for the player to reach.

The powers would be T3 and follow the same requirements as T3 powers which I believe will be changing with I21 to allow access immediately without requirement.

    The powers:

    -Fighting
    Pain Tolerance: +20% maxHP

    -Concealment
    Diversion: ST foe placate

    -Leadership
    Enduring Presence: +5% maxEND

    -Presence
    Insulting presence: PBAoE taunt aura

    -Medicine
Combat medic: Auto interrupt reduction (large) for Medicine pool powers

So, there they are, my suggestions for a 5th power for the non-travel power pools.

    Whad'ya think?
Fighting seems a little too powerful, a good idea but still too powerful. Maybe reduce it to 10%, which would bring it in line with things like, say, True Grit or High Pain Tolerance and it should be fine.

    Concealment is fine.

I would suggest something else for Leadership, an odd idea might be sort of a reverse vengeance where you click on the body of a fallen enemy and the whole team receives a small buff, a way to make it interesting is if it's a grant power that uses the enemy's modifiers to simulate the defeat of a minion being no big deal, but the morale boost from watching an AV eat dirt considerably bolsters your team's spirit. (This would have to be non-stackable of course, and the values, even if used by a PC AT, to be smaller than normal vengeance.)

Suggestion for presence: Awe A PBAoE stun effect, mag three

    Medicine looks fine.
  18. My friends and fellow forumites, in the past week or so, the Circle of Thorns redesign has sparked much conversation amongst us as well as earned the consternation of many, but there is a greater problem with the Circle of Thorns than "Stupid, Sexy Energy Mage", one that has plagued the group since the beginning...

The low level range of the Thorn Wielder Minion Class.
    Seriously, just read the description:
    Quote:
The mighty Thorn Wielders are the elite guardians of the Circle of Thorns. They wield the sacred Thorn Blades, enchanted weapons that leave a taint of foul magic on anyone they strike.
And these mighty, elite guardians are fought at levels 5 to 13. What the hell?

I can somewhat swallow signature pieces, like Posi's unique helmet, Numina's coat, Manticore's "mane" and so forth, but every non-signature piece I want to have. To a large extent, this feeling is born from the belief that if they can use it, I can use it for all technology is concerned, and the game is just artificially keeping me from using it. Anyone remember the Shadow Bane sword? How about the Blue Shield? Yeah, like that.

So, on the one hand, I'd like to see any humanoid NPCs be made with the same rigs we're using so that we can always use their pieces.

On the other hand, the humanoid rig is very, very limited. For one, it's limited to only depicting humanoid characters. What about quadrupeds? What about snake people? What about legless ghosts? What about creatures on tank tracks... What about TANKS? Or how about formless enemies, like a big glob of jelly with mouths all over? There are many, many, MANY things that the humanoid rig cannot produce, and restricting our game to just humanoid characters is, I firmly believe, a mistake. We need the Snakes and the Hydra and the Titans and the Storm Elementals and the Sky Skiffs and the Spectrals and so forth, because they bring variety to the game in ways that wouldn't be workable for custom player characters.

So, on the other hand, I still want to see unique, custom NPCs who are vastly different from what the humanoid rig can support.

I suppose the balance point, as I see it, is in what's even conceivable as being used by a player. If I see dudes in tunics, I want them. They're humans, I'm a human, I want it. But if I see a dude with a swatch of tentacles where his lower body should be... Yeah, I can see that I won't be using that for my martial artists any time soon. The game needs custom unique characters, but they need to be so unique as to be impossible to conceive as being used by players. And this actually is a sustainable point of balance, I think.
I kind of concur with this, though I'm also of the opinion that "Right-Out-Rigs" should be used sparringly, otherwise they lose their uniqueness and sometimes get annoying.
I've played Ragnarok online before, as well as other RPGs, and it kind of gets annoying when a random blob of slime is honestly treated as any serious threat to ANYONE when it's only means of attack is just bouncing off of you (Hamidon at least shoots lasers and its twenty stories tall), or starfish... or Regular fish somehow on land... Yeah, aside from Pokemon, it gets annoying to fight weird @#$% 90% if the time and results in any DnD game I DM to tend to involve lots of Human enemies...

I think I went off on a tangent here...

Ah, but they are psychic, but since they're on a network, maybe their consciousness is absorbed into the network upon death?
  21. I would also like to note that as nice as functional fingers would be, they would also have clipping issues with several existing costume pieces, namely the actual boxing glove vet rewards, or the wrapped gloves.

I think NON-FUNCTIONAL fingers like the SoA have could be done as an update to bare hands and some other gloves that have free fingers, and I would like better detailed bare feet, but I'm not holding the Devs to this since they've got enough on their plate.
  22. Hmmm... I'd leave the art aspects to the Devs (and other players to an extent) for the most part, I do honestly like the new costumes, but I do see where other players are coming from.
I'd more likely tweak powers and level ranges.
For example, I'd probably give the Thorn Wielders new powers and push them up to the level 35-50 (or maybe just them off at 45) range, I mean these guys are supposed to be the ELITE guardians of the Circle of Thorns. This would also mean that at level fifty, instead of ONLY seeing Ice Thorn and behemoths as minions and ONLY Death Mages as bosses, you'd see Ice, Fire, Earth, and Air Thorn casters (and possibly Thorn Wielders), probably a long with Spectral spirits, behemoth demons, etc. Of course this also would mean the bosses you fight would include Succubi, Hellfrosts, Behemoth Overlords Death, Agony, Ruin, and Madness mages.

That's a rough run down of what I'd have in mind. I'd probably do the same to other groups, oh, and would probably give at least ONE CoT NPC demon summoning.

Edit: Oh! and for some higher level ones, I'd probably give them a power where if you defeat them, there's a chance the "Spirit" within will escape and begin attacking you, viciously.

Second Edit: oh yeah, and I'd give Archers actual archery powers... and give them that mook hitman code that tells them NOT to run into melee like idiots for my SoA to rifle butt their jaws.

They are in an official role with a bureaucratic organization where it is more appropriate to be dressed in something other than their costume identity.
Though, ironically, wouldn't that mean they'd go out of their way to TRY to be MORE unassuming?

    These two are definites.

There's a good chance BaBs'll stay, along with Psyche, due to both of them being featured in the new tutorial fighting the Shivans.

Numina's technically already dead, so she's safe. Although something could happen to her that would destroy her spirit.

That leaves Citadel, Manticore, and Synapse as the biggest targets. These three have the most badly-needing-an-update TFs blueside, so I could see one of them dying then getting a new TF contact that hands out an updated version of their TF.
I'd cross out Citadel just because you can't completely kill him. He's a robot, and he's probably got a backup and blueprints around the Freedom Phalanx HQ.

This reminds me of an attempt I made at redoing the low level Atlas MAGI missions where I did an alternate take on Azuria honestly being a good seer... Her problem was she was TOO good and like Mender Lazarus, she had little sense of cause and effect, namely the first mission involving sending you to a Hellions hideout where she believed the Hellions were keeping some artifacts that they stole in a MAGI vault heist... only the Vault hadn't been raided just yet and you ended up fighting them right when the Hellions got back through the door.
