Quote:Paragon Studios Employee: ... Have your incarnate trials brought any new customers?Paragon Studios Employee: Hey, the players requested something. It's a good idea, and a LOT of people have been asking for it.
Paragon Studios Manager: Does it require time and/or resources?
Paragon Studios Employee: Some, yeah.
Paragon Studios Manager: Will it bring in new customers?
Paragon Studios Employee: Well, no, probably not.
Paragon Studios Manager: Will the stockholders directly benefit from it?
Paragon Studios Employee: I doubt many of the stockholders even play the game.
Paragon Studios Manager: Then forget about it and get back to making the next Incrnate Trial. -
So I'm working on an AE arc in which the first mission will feature almost everyone in a small city dead from some calamity. I kind of wanna avoid using coffins, bones (this is a very recent thing), or body bags since the scene of the crime is supposed to still be fresh.
So, with that in mind I've been trying for special allies who are all, well, using the unconscious emote and set as allies to simulate being dead. But they either get up momentarily upon approach and/or they don't fall back down at all.
Does anyone have any advice for how to get all this right? I'm hoping to convey some level of serious tragedy. -
Quote:You know, with Vorpal judgment out, this is honestly hilarious in hindsight.-The real reason Hamidon and Tyrant fought in Praetoria was because Tyrant was RUNNING ALL THE TIME! HE WAS SO FAST HAMIDON WAS LIKE "Sloooooooooooow dooooooown!" AND TYRANT WAS LIKE "@#$% YOU!" AND KICKED HIM IN THE FACE WITH HIS INCARNATE LEGS! (or as it will be known when it's released in the expanded judgement slots: "Radial Final Pedal Judgment")

Quote:And technically the better synonymous phrase would be "Ever-present"Only issue with that theory is that ubiquitous is an English word.
Thanks for the support, sorry for checking back in so late. I guess I can live with this for the most part, it's still just weird why this is happening, though I guess the theories here are probably what's going on. -
Are folks talking about [url=http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=217886\Alternate power selections suggestion?[/url] because I think I heard people talking about Alternater power selections.
-
I like it, not gonna buy it just yet. i mean I have a blast on the rocket board, and I think if I had some more appropriate toons I'd grab it too. Just... not quite yet, sort of like beam rifle for me, I like the idea, it's just not time for me to grab it yet.
on another note, I wish they kept the "standing straight with arms crossed" stance for the carpet. I mean I understand why some people wanted it changed and such, but personally it gave me the impression of my character riding around on this awesome, magical rug saying: "LIKE A BOSS!" -
Quote:Actually, it's sort of within the cottage rule the way changing conserve power in electric armor to energize was within it. I mean both have +regen and recovery, and even status protection (which is is not something that can be enhanced) so meaning sets and IO sets would remain the same between changes. This would be a nice change. If it's too large of a change for the cottage rule to allow, a "take only one of these" choice like the Crab venom grenades would be nice too.
on the note of picking it like the VEATs, a long time ago I proposed the concept of "alternate power selections" similar to what you and the poster directly about describe. -
Let's kick it up a notch: statesman's gravestone is also his grave, when someone attempts to defile it, it transforms into a giant mecha called "The Memoria-tron" piloted by Statesman's reanimated, zombified remains.

Knowing some of the more vocal members of the player base, they will instead want a chance to be one of those defacers.

Quote:Ultimately the real reason is because DC does no want to lose their villain cash cows.Yeah, but that's ignoring the fact that, if he bumps off Zsasz 'for the greater good', what's to stop him killing Joker? He's at least twice as bad. And then Scarecrow, Riddler, Penguin, Bane (that'd be tough) all the others...
But then what about anyone else 'evil'? Who would define evil?
That's the point. Once you cross the line, it's only a downward spiral.
This has made me vow that if I ever write my own super hero story, every major villain gets a three strikes rule, third appearance requires them to be locked up for good (they also only get ONE breakout/get out of jail card and it can't be from a major, in-universe Maximum security prison), killed off permanently, or achieve or give up on their goal and fold. -
Quote:I thought I read something about that, or that Nerva was just contested territory period. Though it does make me wonder: what's Arachnos' excuse for having open bases in Faultline? This. I know for a fact I read that at least part of Nerva belongs to the US, which is why there's a complete base out in the open (read: the only place Longbow has BUILT a base in the isles that's secret to no one). Honestly, and I realize the floodgates I open with this but, sometimes it feels as if some players do not read all the background information. Maybe that's just me, since I tend to devour tidbits of info from any canon CoH source I can find.

Quote:But as the OP and myself have been wondering, how many more changes can we keep making to this before the engine can't take it anymore.Yeah, they've been kinda doing a stealth sequel for quite a while now - but there's room for a lot more changes
Admittedly, one of the problems of trying to make a City of sequel MMO many fold:
-As mentioned, City of Heroes is rooted in Cryptic's rights, so a sequel would likelt need an entirely new engine (not that it mighty exactly be a bad thing)
-This might also require them to get a new name too.
- MMO sequels have issues with development and success. See Guild Wars 2, Ragnarok Online 2, and Lineage 2. All of these seem to either have taken insane amounts of development time or simply had a lot of issues to my understanding.
-Sequels like this are likely to divide the playerbase.
and there are others, I believe. -
Quote:I couldn't help but think that quite a few of my vigilante chatracters would have shot or stabbed Malaise once the dirge started up and he seemed too smug before working to stop it.I think it wasn't so much that Malaise became more powerful, or was being boosted by someone else, as it was the Dirge of Chaos screwing everything up. Breaking the Dirge's effects was the main reason Psyche was weak enough for Malaise to take hold in the first place. And consider that once that hold was lost, she flattened him without so much as a finger-snap.
to be honest, I'm not bothered by the plotholes so much as just how delicate the plans Wade and Malaise had made. I mean it all hinged on so many unaccountable factors they were basically playing roulette. Unless Wade's plans genuinely have something that's basically controlling the odds to help him.
I mean hell, I'm sure even Golden Girl would at least knock Malaise out before taking care of the Dirge and left him unable to attack Psyche. -

I will say this much: to my knowledge, more than half of Ms. Liberty's Prissiness is towards villains, and be honest, how many times have you imagined your characters following up their victory over an AV with "SUCK IT!" and a kick to the loins?
Also, she can't be ENTIRELY blamed for things her ORGANIZATION does, though she definitely needs to reevaluate the recruits, definitely needs to try to hide her efforts in the Isles better, etc.
Though the rest cannot be justified so easily.
Also, I could totally make a better longbow unit structure if given the chance with better uniforms, and Ms. Liberty's clearly stressed and already has a lot on her plate with the Vindicators...
Vote for me for Director of Longbow! -
Quote:Going on this, it could be Prometheus was the one who created pandora's box in the first place to give power to people without the aid of the well.Well, lets see if I remember those mythology courses correctly.
Prometheus (a rough translation meaning fore thought) was the titan who gave fire (sometimes interpreted as science and/or the creative spark) to humanity in defiance of the gods. For this, he was chained down and is doomed to have his liver (or some other internal organs) pecked out by vultures for eternity.
You can see why this might make someone a bit bitter.
Now, If we transfer this a bit to in game lore we could say that the gods are actually the well of the furies which has been granting power to just a few over the course of who knows how long, in what appears to be a long running socio/psychological experiment. The well decides when it appears, who gets power and has been shown to be trying to manipulate those it comes in contact with.
Prometheus, meanwhile, seeing that humanity was destined for great things, decides to jump start the process a bit in defiance of the the gods (played tonight by the well of the furies.) He doesn't seem too pleased with the well's games and seems to be telling people that they can do just fine without it.
Now, the well probably isn't too happy with this but, not having a conveniently strong catspaw available at the moment, isn't really able to punish Prometheus (AKA the chained to a rock thing.) But, as soon as the well has a follower strong enough to take on big blue, it will use them to make it's displeasure known.
So what do we learn from this? Well, we could say that if we drink the Well's kool aid (take incarnate abilities) we're going to spend the rest of our lives either doing what it tells us, fighting it, or just going a bit crazy trying to do both.
Resist the Well, humanity. It might be our only hope. -
You know, while hunting for exploration badges/accolades on my rocket board, I realized something: I wouldn't mind having a flying car that's basically a shapeshifting version of the Rocket Board.
No, it doesn't have to be a special vehicle with it's own powers beyond flight and looking like a car. I don't need it to be able to take a rocket at point blank to be a super mobile.
It's a car, it flies, it has apparently infinite fuel, and let's me subvert rush hour traffic jams. That's perfectly super enough for me, thank you.
Though It might be a head scratcher why my normally generous hero won't let his friends and even family into his new, super tech sedan. Maybe he's got a @#$%ish side I don't know about but either way, it's fine with me that I can't do much else with it besides fly around because I can't do much else with the Rocket Board either and I have a blast riding it around and sometimes use it to escape mobs, actually. (My parting thoughts always being: "@#$% your @#$% I had a rocket board!") -
Quote:Actually, it seems Darrin Wade has Warshade powers based one seeing him fight in the heroside part 2 of the SSA.Is he going to talk to us with two thematically-matched power sets in a costume consisting entirely of two colors?
As a random note, my katana scrapper has a goatee and... sometimes wears sunglasses (but usually an eyepath) and he's... mostly good, aside from dismissing Ms. Liberty and Longbow as useless. (He did not think they handled the third part of the arc well.) -
I'm not sure if anyone else has ever had this problem, but I recently made a character and named him "Ubiquitous" meaning "Ever present" and for some reason, on the teammate listing of my teammates as well as on the character select login screeen, his name instead is shown as "Very Common".
Has this ever happened? Why is this happening? What kind of coding does THAT?
P.S., yeah, I have emailed support. -
Quote:Source on this information and link?(Also as a side note- the Knives will be getting a serious upgrade come I22...)
Also, what'll the devs do? Give them more caltrops? They weren't terribly imaginative the first time they made the KoA, my expectations for a second time are pretty dismal. -
I've been saying for a long time they need to do something like contract Daft Punk for some new pocket D music.

Quote:At least at issue 1 launch servers couldn't handle more than that many on at a time per-server.That's just a problem with Lore versus game mechanics.
Not suppossed to be more than 5000 supers world wide either.
And as i mentioned, all it would really take to make it a bit more believable is if the KoA had a special "Teleport away" defeat animation. -
Quote:This has always bugged me. I mean if they're going to say this they could at least have given them a 'teleporting away' defeat animation. But instead we end up fighting more than 100 KoA on the average +0/x1 mission. Also, according to their description, there are fewer than 100 Knives of Artemis world-wide.
The same thing kind of applies to the sky raiders.
These are supposed to be limited number organizations and yet they can still pull the same old Zerg Rush (Kekekekeke) tactics as any other group. -
Quote:Well is he a servant of Mot or just having the same goals? I have a character with the same goals as Rularuu but he'd still oppose Rularuu because HE wants to be the one to devour everything. (Plus, he thinks he can do it better, so a matter of professional jealousy could be considered, it's like why some players want their villains to be the one who kills statesman and not some NPC)The Shard zones are big enough to let villains in, whether co-op or PvP (while PvP in a huge zone might be head exploding worthy, it would be rather interesting). Thing is, if it goes co-op, please have two chains of contacts like Cimerora. I'm tired of missions designed mostly for heroes that villains get to piggy back on (like what seems to be happening with Dark Astoria unfortunately—it'd be most frustrating in the fact that my namesake, as I wrote him, has the same goals as Mot).
