Ubiquitous showing up as "Very common"
I'm not sure if anyone else has ever had this problem, but I recently made a character and named him "Ubiquitous" meaning "Ever present" and for some reason, on the teammate listing of my teammates as well as on the character select login screeen, his name instead is shown as "Very Common".
Has this ever happened? Why is this happening? What kind of coding does THAT? P.S., yeah, I have emailed support. |
Sounds like someone generic'ed the name for some reason...
Why? Idunno.
Since you just made the character, it might be quicker to just delete and re-roll rather than waiting for support, especially on a three-day weekend.

After you log in, does your ID and personal info windows show "Very Uncommon" too? Really strange.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
Just tested this and I can confirm that it's a repeatable bug. Dark Armor/Battle Axe Tanker on Defiant.
Name displays as Ubiquitous for: player name above my head (for myself and other players), ID and player info, team window on my end, in chat.
Name displays as Very Common for: character list, team window for teammates.
This is the weirdest damn bug I've ever seen.

For example, the redside equivalent to an archvillain is a hero. If you're running your client in German mode, this word gets automagically replaced by Held (which is the German word for "hero"). Unfortunately, "held" is another word on the list, so the translator kicks in again and translates "Held" (as in "hold, held, held") to Festgesetzt (which is German for "stuck", or "held").
(I assure you, those heroes are pretty tough, even though they're called "Festgesetzt".)
I assume that since "ubiquitous" is the French word for "very common", the translater reads this as French, notices that your client is set to English, and replaces the character name with its "English" translation wherever it (the auto translator) is used. That's why you get the translation in some places, and the original name in others.

I had assumed that, since "ubiquitous" was derived from Latin, it would be a French word, too. I'm sorry.

It looks like it's translating from internal game keywords to the playerlocale language, not from French, Latin or English. If the keyword used for Very Common items was Goku, this behavior would have been noticed sooner.

Yeah, there's Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare and Ultra Rare. I don't recall ever seeing anything classified as 'Very Common'.

Hmm, that's a good point. I wonder why I thought I'd seen something that was Very Common. Insane, probably.
I put all gokus that drop on the market for 1 inf.
Heh, sounds like the UI is improperly trying to translate player names when it displays them in a few places.
You should make a character named P4251138908 or P4227708012
In my experience, I would clasify "Temp" power drops as "Very Common"...
Sorry..... I just couldn't pass up the opportunity
Only issue with that theory is that ubiquitous is an English word.

Thanks for the support, sorry for checking back in so late. I guess I can live with this for the most part, it's still just weird why this is happening, though I guess the theories here are probably what's going on.

It should be fixed in a future patch.
