From NBC: Grimm - Preview
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh3rF...&feature=share
This seems like ABC's upcoming Once Upon a Time, but a bit different.
Regardless I don't trust ABC or NBC to keep either show past season 1. I've long past stopped trusting either network to support fantasy/sci-fi type shows.
BOTH shows would probably last longer on something like the CW.
EDIT: Annnnnd, just read that NBC is debuting it on Fridays. Fail.
-
I'd wish BOTH houses would just STOP resetting their entire universes and books for at least FIVE years. Let some history build up like the used to in the old days, so that things actually have consequences.

Quote:Heh. True. Honestly, as I've said before I love the trials and think they are sufficiently difficult. The participation metric was NOT needed seeing as how we've had for seven years now ways of dealing with doorsitters. And the merits and random rewards seemed to work fine for other content.Heh. Careful, people will complain you put the devs down for everything they do if you complain... until they call you a fanboy a thread later. Ask me how I know!
Yeah, that should have been - from what they've said - getting one of the other tables, not the thread booby prize.
(Honestly, my general complaint is that Threads - not as a reward choice, just in-trial - seem to be dropping far too rarely in trials after one of the last patches.)
As a general aside, I love issues 19-20 (more 20) but I'm not fanboy enough to state that everything in 20 was perfect. Far from it. The threads making shards useless, currency creep, utterly USELESS LFG tool, and the rewards system were not needed with issue 20. EDIT: At least no needed in their current incarnations. If the devs can fix them, great. I'm just of the opinion that some of those things (especially the Participation metric) needed more time in a CLOSED BETA environment. -

I assume it fine to point and laugh at that will saying "Tyrant, you FAIIILLLLL"?

Quote:See the problem is I don't really know whether it's broken or not. With the data from that other thread (with folks who are mostly active getting 10 threads [and it was said waaaaaay more than once]) and the devs being mostly MUM about how the system is supposed to work (and apparently being closed mouthed about it to even their NDA CLOSED BETA testers) I'm not really sure.... yet.
As far as the beta comment - well, the test and live servers aren't the same. We know this. There's also just the fact that we have far more people playing on live than on test. *shrug*
Personally - and no, no data-points recorded - I seem to get a fair enough mix of common/uncommon/rare/vr salvage. Mostly uncommon, yes, but I've had rare and VR show up when I didn't think I'd have gotten them.
The devs won't reveal their "metrics" (obviously, not wanting people to game the system,) but I'm not willing to call them *generally* broken at this point. (Masterminds excepted - the whole pet damage thing needs looking at.)
I have, though, mostly been on one of two controllers (Ice/Emp, Earth/FF) or a blaster (elec/elec - mostly single target,) with the occasional foray into warshades or other characters. I *should* take out my stalker and see what I get there.
I've been fine with a totally RANDOM system. I'm not fine with a random system that may or may not be working 100% of the time because of bugs or because it's new, or because it wasn't properly tested due to the testers not being told how its intended to work.
Remember that thread from a year or so ago when folks discovered that some drops weren't working correctly, and the devs said they were, but then the players provided enough data that the devs took a second look, and lo and behold, there WAS a problem.
Yeah my faith in the devs to build a bug-free participation system right off the bat is NOT at it's highest right now, based on current and recent past history. -
Quote:That's what BETA is for. We shouldn't be beta testing something that's the ONLY way to advance Incarnates. If threads dropped from other sources then fine. But since they don't . . .I don't think they should remove the participation, but they should fix it for the problem areas, like masterminds.
/signed for dumping it till it's bugs are worked out. -
/signed, so that having a Notice of the Well actually has a point again.

Quote:/unsigned, unless its more than 5 years. People (included military) often take long breaks such as two years and still come back.Okay, before I begin, this is not a Wah, I lost my global thread. This is, in my opinion, something that should have been done before Global Server Access was enabled. Simply put, run a check of the joint global database and flag any account that has been inactive for over two years, appending their global name with a designation marking the name as inactive. Also grant a global rename token to any names that have been changed since GSA went active and anyone flagged as inactive.
This would free up old, unused globals and give players affected by the merge to possibly reclaim names that they have had for years and were renamed due to a clash with old, inactive accounts. If a player returns after two years, they still have the opportunity to change their name.
Although it could be argued that this is a not a vital service, it may go some way to fixing the mistakes made during the EU merger into the NA server cluster and might restore some sense of fairness to the whole process. -
Quote:I think if they ever make a COH2 (I think that's as likely as the sun imploding tomorrow) I doubt we'll see it anytime before the next 5 years.Well considering that CoH 2 was copyrighted about a year ago and it takes at least 3 to 5 years to build a good MMO to start from, I'm not worried this is going to happen anytime soon, unless of course they have been working on it for the past 3 years. Yet that is unlikely as they keep letting people go.
As far as a sequel being not as good, I can see that argument, but as long as they keep the format the same and not go to crazy with "repairs". With a new engine, this game would be even more amazing than before. -

Right, my point was correcting Aracnaville's suggestion that MA was on Dr. Aeon's plate.
"Being on your plate" to me is a term that means that "I'm actively working on this thing". Maybe my understanding is off, but going from that I'd say it's BS to say that it's on anyone's plate.
A more accurate statement is that AE/MA is on the indefinite back burner. The most you'll be getting for now is bug fixes, if any. -

Quote:Especially since about two of those threes are useless if you have any type of major investment in Set IOs.Guessing one for each tree since there are 8. That said, err. Ya. Why? Can see maybe a few alternates for situational differences or for one of your three builds. But capping it out seems excessive.
Alpha when compared to the slots we have no isn't all that impressive. -

Yep, though I like Baron's approach. Team majority rules and whatnot.

Okay, THAT was fun. For the little times I tuned in I had a lot of fun.
Kudos all! -
Quote:UMMM holy crap! There's no question that Ultra Mode looks great, and there are a few things you can tweak to get reasonable goodies with acceptable performance. However, it still bugs me that it taxes my system by this much. Sure, it's not top-of-the-line amazing, but I have a GeForce GTX 285, an I7 processor and 8GB of RAM, and the thing still chugs down to below 30 FPS in a lot of places, and that's without Ambient Occlusion, Depth of Field or Bloom, and with the other Ultra Mode settings at about half-and-half.
The game looks amazing for a game of this age, and "good" for current day gaming, but it just hurts my brain every time I see my picture skipping because I looked towards the old town in Cap Au Diable or because I went into a Warehouse large room.
What the hell kind of system must the OP's The Beast be, if what you posted above has issues?
In other words what kind of scray skynet type system are folks who can run ULTRA MODE running? -
Quote:Uhhh, singing your writs and crashing Windows 7 frequently sounds FAR BELOW "not great, but worked in a pinch" to me.A while back my main gaming PC self-destructed, so I had to resort to playing CoX on a small Acer Aspire One netbook while it was in for repairs. Granted, Windows 7 would frequently crash, and it ran hot enough to singe my wrists, but the framrate was actually higher than I'd imagined it would be -- not great, but it worked in a pinch.
I sure as hell would NOT pay for something like that on a tablet. sorry.
I must have high standards, but I would think possibly burning myself would be a dealbreaker. -
Quote:Yeah both PSN and SOE account creation/maint will probably be rock solid after this.On the other hand, I don't think I'll worry about sharing credit card details with the new PSN at all. Sony can't help but have learned from this the hard way. I mean, I can't imagine that they'd want to see something like this happen again any time soon.

Quote:I don't think anyone is saying that. What people can't believe is that their network structure was so bad that they have been forced to be down for this long. This is a classic example of how not to build your network security.So... it would be better if they turned the servers back on before they corrected the underlying problems? I don't know about you but if, say, my bank discovered a serious security problem, I'd be *really* ticked if they opened for business before it was fixed. "Yeah, that missing wall in the vault isn't fixed yet, but people want to cash their checks and get free cookies. We had to focus on what's important."
Is the network outage inconvenient? Yes, probably, if you are one of their customers. But it's not the end of the world. And seriously, if your biggest concern at this point is "I can't play my games!" then I envy you. I'm a lot more concerned about the possibility of ID theft, which is something I might have to deal with if the network *never* comes back up.
I can't imagine that keeping the network down is Sony's first choice - they're effectively losing customers every minute it's offline, on top of the online transactions they can't receive. And they've already stated that anyone who does stick around gets a free month, *plus* free time to match the outage. Which at this point is a solid two free months to everyone who hasn't already quit for good. And that's in addition to whatever it's costing them for the three or four security consulting companies they've hired, and the programmers and engineers who are probably working around the clock to re-write the entire network from the beginning, or whatever it is that's taking so much effort to fix.
And that's not even counting what this will cost them in legal fees, lost sales, and lost customer goodwill. (Yeah, it was the online division that blew it, but if you were affected, how likely are you to buy a Sony television at this point?) Considering that SOE just canceled several in-development games, and laid off a lot of staff, this really might kill them off altogether. So I *really* don't think they're keeping the network down just to make people angry.
