Global Name Purge

/unsigned, unless its more than 5 years. People (included military) often take long breaks such as two years and still come back.
Okay, before I begin, this is not a Wah, I lost my global thread. This is, in my opinion, something that should have been done before Global Server Access was enabled. Simply put, run a check of the joint global database and flag any account that has been inactive for over two years, appending their global name with a designation marking the name as inactive. Also grant a global rename token to any names that have been changed since GSA went active and anyone flagged as inactive.
This would free up old, unused globals and give players affected by the merge to possibly reclaim names that they have had for years and were renamed due to a clash with old, inactive accounts. If a player returns after two years, they still have the opportunity to change their name. Although it could be argued that this is a not a vital service, it may go some way to fixing the mistakes made during the EU merger into the NA server cluster and might restore some sense of fairness to the whole process. |

Anyone taking long breaks knows (or should know) that that is simply part and parcel. Heck, theres nothing to stop people from still subscribing and keeping all those juicy vet awards.
But why should an inactive, unpaid for account, trump that of someone who has never once let their sub lapse? How is that, in any way, shape or form, 'right'?

Sorry to disagree with you A_F, but this is no different than the character name purge they have run twice in the past. Same rules should apply here that applys to them.

Besides money.

And how do they keep global names above level 6? If you have a character above 6 you're fine?

Now, purging the trials that haven't converted after 3 mo or something, sure.

Whatever else rules of engagement were chosen, paying active accounts should have had been able to keep their globals instead of allowing inactive ones to keep them.
Therefore, I support this suggestion.

Well, I'm all for this, although it should have been done before the merge, not after, but hey, better late than never.

Even though I wasn't affected (and I thought I would have been) I can't help but concur with this. Paying, active costumers should trump innactive, lapsed ones. It's like business 101.

True. This also means that people who haven't lapsed have paid more. So...why again is it right that people who have paid more can ever lose out to those who haven't?
That is flawed logic right there.

Not necessarily true. Someone who played for four years and has been gone one for whatever reason (military, school, etc.) has certainly paid more than the person who's been in just long enough to see their first shny vet reward.

This is the point, however. Say that the four year vet was an EU player. They get automatically shafted, no matter any other factors.

The point I'm trying to make is that the way things were done was haphazard, shoddy and, frankly, unjust. Having a slightly more organised system that can pick more fairly would be far, far better.

Doesn't need much more than that.
