  1. Errr, huh? So if a map gets removed from the game that a DC arc was using, the DC arc is STILL playable? How is that even possible?

That's NOT how I understood DC to work when it was first discussed (and why a lot of folks stated that they would decline allowing their work to be DC'd.)

My understanding is that when a patch comes out that breaks somethings, YES the DC arc CAN become unplayable. However to edit it, you have to PM Customer service.

I never heard that the DC arc's were immune to breaking from patch changes (such as a map being removed).

Correct me if I'm wrong, or misunderstanding what's being said here.

I have yet to encounter an arc where *not* using a defeat all would have at all hurt the suspense of disbelief.

I don't rate down an arc specifically for defeat alls (Although if they end up making the arc less enjoyable its rating may suffer for that), but I really see no reason authors should be using them, they've added nothing to the gameplay experience or the story in all the times I've encountered them both in MA and in Dev content.

we have email on CoX? lol

This. The word email is in red.

    Big whoop.

I haven't opened up that tab on any character in over a year.

Yes, well, that's nice for you, but since the subject was 'my reaction' to the announcement, and why I wasn't enthusiastic, my opinion is kinda the one that I find germaine to the discussion. There are people out there happy with Oprah, that doesn't mean I have to be.

If you think the current implementation is so horrible then what would you change while still sticking to the original plan of allowing people to make custom missions?

[/ QUOTE ]I wouldn't. The plan is predicated upon the idea that every person has something to contribute. For the most part, they don't. If I had to make a system whereby people could make custom missions, I'd make it discerning and possibly even a contest, with oversight and testing and an editor.

None of this is feasible. Instead, we got a toolset that lets bad arcs get made, a rating system that rewards mediocrity, and a playerbase festering in incompetence.

And 'Make your own' is the most retarded possible solution to the problem of everyone else's material being bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /e yawn.

As long as folks are having fun, that's all I care about.

Could the AE be improved? Sure.

Does it still allow folks to have fun? Yes.
  6. I have no issue with it being in RWZ.

It makes me wonder how these people ever managed to actually play the real game in the first place, given some of the existing in-game missions and their objectives.

A mission full of bosses or multiple avs, or click 500 glowies or something, sure, but normal, reasonable in game objectives encountered hundreds of times in the normal game like an EB or a defeat all? If that's too much for someone I don't even want to think about how they bumbled through the game before MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You assume they actually couldn't do the defeat all missions. Being able to do it and like it are two completely different things.

In the non-MA, you have no choice but to do them, if you want to progress with an arc. (And actually, NO, you don't have to do them even then--MISSION DROP) In the MA you sure as hell can avoid them. Personally whether out or in the MA, defeat alls are an epic waste of time.

    I don't 1 star defeat all stories. I simply don't play them.

Of all the ones I have played with defeat alls, the story DID NOT justify it being a defeat all, AT ALL.

Speculation based on an email some got, says issue 16. I for one DO NOT believe it's issue 16. I think there will be another smaller issue called 16 before we see 17/the Expansion before the end of the year.

Castle made a comment on the Dom buffs that made me a firm believer that it'll be i16. He said word from on high was that he either had to get the Dom buffs in with i15 or wait till i17.

    And there is that.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    I have.

I just don't buy the their line on that. The developers knew about the bugs well before the lockout period hit. If you can believe what's been said on the boards they were informed in open and closed beta. They knew about the lockout period well before I14 going live. They didn't do anything about the problems then they claim that marketing was being unreasonable ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually what I read was that they were put into a publishing blackout during the anniversary. meaning they could not put out patches from test to live, even if they had the build ready to kill the comm officers, meows, etc.

Some have inferred that the publishing blackout came from NCSOFT or from Marketing. The devs never stated who exactly.

The lack of ability to further delay issue 14 (to patch what their beta testers were telling them) could have also come from either of those camps.

I'm precisely saying that the DEVS DID KNOW but their hands were TIED for various reasons.

Ofcourse, there still remains the VERY valid point that they should have done something about them BEFORE they hit OPEN BETA.

EDIT: Getting back on topic to which I originally posted about/responded to: Many have a very VALID fear that the devs might SCREW UP this crossover, based on what's happened the last year or so.

What should NOT be on the table (according to various player posts I've seen--and I agree):
    1. Any system in which to go to Paragon/Rogue Isles, your villain/hero is stripped of all IOs and downgraded to lvl 1 first and has to level back up again.

    2. Any system where a third market is created and GR is treated as a co-op city, and not true crossover.

    3. Any system in which the markets aren't merged, and illogically you are allowed to take items back and forth at will--it's illogical because at that point, you might as well merge the f*&^%$g markets.

Folks can correct me if I'm wrong.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Let me suggest an alternative that involves the bare minimum of using the market: assuming you have at least one high level character, do one ITF run a day. The ITF is a fun task force that takes an average team 60-90 minutes (yes, I know about 30 minute speed runs). At the end of that time, you'll have several million inf just from kills, at least a chance of getting some purples, salvage that will be worth a few mil more, and most importantly enough merits to go for a rare drop (suggestion: go for a lvl 30-34 recipe). Yes, you'll have to use the market to list your items, but you can just list them low and cash out immediately. That's painless even for someone who doesn't care for the market.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Merits and tickets are definitely the developers way of responding to the people that don't like using the market.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And yet the extreme fools like a certain someone in this thread still complain.

Lack of Logic must be the new drug of choice.

The devs do EXACTLY what they want by creating a TWO DIFFERENT types of stores for IOs and they still complain.

And once again: the devs WANT purples to be ultra low. If folks can't deal with that, tough [censored].
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I have always said the drop rate is too low. The devs rates suck, imo. But it dont help that there ARE people out there that hurt the market prices by taking advantage of it. It wouldn't be so bad if people bought the stuff to use. Buying to jack the price up is stupid. It's hurting the people that actually want the stuffs game because some people, myself included, don't want to "play the market" game to build inf. Don't pity the poor people, but realize not everyone wants to be a marketeer. I'd rather farm so i can at least play my toon and not look for "niches". Flame on...

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it is not hurting those people. That's why people flame you. People flame you because you are ignorant. People flame you because you say things that are blatantly false.

Think of prices like goldilocks and the three bears...

Some prices are too low. When prices are too low a "shortage" exists. In a shortage some people are willing to pay the price but unable to obtain the item. Some items in CoH have been and are in a shortage. The most famous example is low level Luck of the Gamblers from long ago. The last 5 for all of these used to say 10 to 20 million. None were ever for sale on the market but fairly often they would appear and be sold instantly. This situation is a shortage. People were willing and able to pay 10 to 20 million. Lots and lots of people in fact. However, none could buy it. Eventually, prices rose. Prices rose because they were too low. Players suffered because they were willing and able to pay the last 5 prices but could not do so.

Some prices are too high. When prices are too high there is a surplus. In a surplus players are willing and able to sell their item at the current price but unable to do so. When you see an item with lots and lots for sale, zero bidders, and a 6 or 7 digit last 5 price you see an item in a surplus. Eventually, prices lower on these items because sellers come along who post their items for less and buyers come along who pay less. Sellers that do not list for less do not sell their item and thus get no money.

Some prices are just right. At these prices there are an equal number of people who are willing to buy as willing and able to sell. These prices are just right.

Marketeers can only survive and profit on items with high volatility where the price fluctuates between too high and too low. These marketeers ride the waves of player impatience. They buy at the low and sell at the high. Other marketeers profit on identifying shortages. These marketeers buy lots and lots of an item that is priced "too low." Then they list them higher and profit. Another type of marketeer creates misleading information on the market and attempts to profit. These marketeers may make temporary profits by buying lots of an item then trying to make the last 5 look bigger or buy buying all of one item then trying to sell a few at huge prices. However, this strategy is unsustainable. The marketeer MUST exit or lose profits because at those high prices there are more sellers than buyers. Eventually, other sellers will appear and the plan will collapse.

Anyway you slice it, marketeers cannot force players to pay higher prices. Every transaction has a willing and able buyer. Yet, you complain regardless. That is why you are ignorant and why you are flamed. You ignore facts, reason, logic, intelligence, mathematics and economics and blame the wrong people. Stop blaming marketeers for high prices and either blame the people who pay them willingly or the developers who don't create a drop rate to your satisfaction.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Good job.

Don't know how many times you will need explain this before people actually get it.

Then again, from who you responded to, I guess it's in fashion to blame this portion or that portion of the player base for one's individual laziness or ignorance.

As excited as everyone, after alll that teaser is just awesome. But... Man, I shurely hope they do this right... I´ve been around just for around 8 months or so, but I´ve seen LOTS of wrongs. And if they keep messing up as they have been doing, I´m worried sick this game is fated to die.

Some food for tought, so you can be positive that people WILL leave if they get upset.
    1. ED = lots of pissed of players left (ok, this one I wasn´t even here).
    2. PvP nerf = death of PvP community
    3. Issue 14 = BLAME THE PLAYERS! leading to bans and lots of old hardcore players losing faith in the game and leaving

Now, with 2 major competition games just in the corner CoX won´t be the only Superhero MMO around... If the marketing team messes up again, releasing a product that people aimed so high in expectations different from what the player base desired... Well, I feel bad for it but CoX will be history.

What MARKETING and NCOSFT management in general NEEDS to do is get the [censored] out of the devs hair and let them do things the RIGHT way. That and Posi needs to chillax on the "play my way" Jack Emmert imitations.

Case in point, the publishing blackout was utter and complete foolishness. The devs could have quickly patched out a lot of the nonsense that lead to the MA firestorm. OR they could have been given the devs time to delay the release of issue 14 to take care of the exploits that their beta and open beta testers told them they should have prior to release. But nooooo, we had to meet some RIDICULOUSLY STUPID Anniversary Deadline that meant jack [censored], seeing as how all it was was giant monsters and and dev-made spawns all over the place. How exciting.

TLR: Marketing and upper management needs to get out of their hair. Especially in terms of patching issues.

Not so say that the devs don't make mistakes. The sure as hell do. My point is Marketing and possibly NCOSFT management doesn't need to add unto that.

    Tanker Offense?

    [ QUOTE ]
Aett, like I posted before, No one is really "hurting", then again I would need your definition of that word in game context. Besides that, AT's don't need to be "hurting" for a change to be made, or even for additions to be put in. Were WP and DA Tanks put in because tanks where hurting?, no. It was an idea, a conept. People want at the very least, something different. I'm not asking for Overpowered this or that. Merely more addition's that add to the heroic feel of tanks, or any other AT for that matter. It's not a matter of "fixing", I never said they needed to be fixed, you need to read my posts again.

Its fine that you see Tankers "fine the way they are". Thats your opinion, your obviously entitled to it. So why bother posting?, I'm not here to argue so your looking at the wrong post. I'm here to post my opinions on said matter.

    [ QUOTE ]
I have an idea for all characters in-game to get cupcakes. Throwing cupcakes at an AV would one-shot kill it. Throwing it at any other enemy deals no damage. As ridiculous as this sounds, I'm betting that I could get a few people behind it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I see you just want to be cynical and argumentative. But It's not working, I'm not here to feed your need to insult or berrate people or their opinions, you don't like what I'm posting?, then move on, this thread is not for you. On that note, radical ideas and ridiculous ideas that don't make sense are two different things. A radical idea based of the game makes more sense. Sure you could offer your cupcake idea, but in comparison more tanker offense would be more valid and less outlandish than the cupcake idea.

My idea isn't as radical as most people think, especially since I'm not askinf for an "I win" button or overpowered defense. I understand you may not like mine or anyone else's ideas but being sarcastic about it won't help your case. You want numbers, but as I stated in past posts, somethings don't need numbers to prove that they need to be changed.

    [ QUOTE ]
I think they should each have at least one ranged attack from their secondary pools.

I think certain sets (notably Super Strength) could use a cosmetic facelift, making them appear more powerful by use of debris, damage decaling and so on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT.

Lastly, I'm not asking for a total revamp of the whole tanker AT, maybe you misunderstood, I'm asking for a very small addition compared to what the expansion will bring. My idea isn't game breaking or even monumental. I guess thats the whole problem here, even a small idea is deemed "wrong" or unsound due to people disliking change. In a way I understand you don't want to change whats already been made whole, but to accept the opinion, that it will always stay like this, is naive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tankers are fine as is. That's my opinion. Just like everything stated in this thread is just that.

And yes, in this game, to convince THESE devs you DO need numbers.

Your failure to realize that means you haven't been paying attention these last couple of years.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

Signature mobs should be AVs, if not AV+. EBs are too weak.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aside from maintaining the status quo, do you have a reason why you feel that way? People keep bringing up the challenge factor, but that isn't the point of this thread, the idea is to maintain the current level of challenge (through additional EBs or other factors), but change the conceptual presentation of signature characters so they are no longer this unattainable level of power, but rather fellow heroes and villains aided by others to keep them equally challenging (if not slightly more so).

No one has offered much in the way of reasons why the current status quo is fun compared to the offered alternative, only that it is indeed the status quo. On the flip side, there are people bothered by the current state of affairs. There are really only two things that have bothered me since release of CoH: 5% chance to suck and signature characters. Both have been a constant, albeit small, drain on my fun and have at times killed my interest in the game entirely.

I *like* challenge, hell I wish the game was more challenging than it is now, but it is the presentation of that challenge that is so important to me. Feeling super and heroic (or villainous) is not mutually exclusive with a challenging game, but things like the Freedom Phalanx and Recluse's goon squad of AVs currently kill that sense of being super and heroic for myself and others I know. If we're the minority that's fine, but even then I have to ask, if the current state of affairs *isn't* offering some tangible benefit to the majority over this alternative, isn't a minority worth at least considering when making future choices, if not changing existing content for that matter?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Future choices sure. Changing existing content, NO, not for this reason. There are numerous other things that exist as existing content that should come waaaay ahead of this concern.

Just off the top of my head revamping the existing tfs, adding more villain sfs and revamping existing zones would rank as more important than whether some feel that AVs overshadow their character.

I'd say its just good simple open communication.

I also use the definition of blind invite that means "An invitation to a team sent with no information about what you are getting into".

Just because a store has a help wanted sign in the window doesn't mean you get the job for walking in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But it doesn't mean that you dont' automatically NOT get the job just for walking in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Depends on how you are dressed. For some employeers you most certainly can be auto disqualified just by walking in. Especially in this economy.

    Customization?!

    [ QUOTE ]
I understand your POV and situation. Sometimes cash sense comes first and you're not that hung up on graphics anyway.

I'm not opposed to customization...I know that there are people who have trouble getting the exact concept for their characters even with the large number of options we have. It's like that with a few of my own toons.

It's just a lower priority for me since I value the gameplay side of the game a bit more...but there is nothing inherently wrong with PC and the additional options it may bring for us in the character creator.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the most you would see is hue shifting and emanation points. (And I seriously doubt the last one)

I don't really see them bringing us what some folks see as the holy grail:
being able to customization animation and effects (+DMG, +stun etc)

so for me I really don't see hue shifting as that many more additional options.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I get tells asking me if I want to join teams all the time on my higher level characters. Almost always when I am in Atlas Park. 9 times out of 10 I search the name and they are below level 15, and spamming broadcast that they are looking for members 40+ for AE teams.

They're not begging for PLs anymore, they're trying to trick you into it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hehe, I "feel" you, but in all truth and candor, you are a 50 in atlas and you are getting a "team" invite? Come now you would have to be close to brain dead to be tricked by this method.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah really. Just WHO do you think is sending you that invite while you are in atlas?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Whenever I get sent a tell that says nothing but "lft?" I respond with: "lfm?" That tends to confuse people.

Or I'll say "idk brb lol"

One time I replied with "ssmtyfi"

    I got back: wut?

I then explained what it stood for...."stop sending me tells you fudging idiot" (Only I didn't say "fudge" )

Oh, I forgot to mention, the same guy sent me 8 "lft?" tells in a row, followed immediately by an invite every time.

I had one person tell me: "I invited you, you HAVE to accept it!" Apparently they had never had an invite declined before. First time for everything.

I never have my LFT flag up,so I'm not soliciting anything. If someone sends me a polite, legible tell asking if I want to team, I will ask what they are doing and consider whether I want to do that right now.

If someone is going to be rude and assume that I want to team with them without any knowledge of what they're doing (or in some cases, what they're saying) I will respond appropriately, usually by being an intelligent donkey.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. Just cause I have LFT up DOES NOT mean I'll want to be on a team where I'm +5 above everyone.

Let me know what we plan to do before I zone.

Isn't rocket science to type "LVL 40 team, doing newspapers, interested?". Nor is it some huge strenous activity.
