Need to low prices on purple sets
That's cheap. Redside you'd shell out close to a billion. Count your blessings.
I've stated this many times before...
Price should NOT be the main determining factor whether something is too rare or not rare enough. The main determining factors should be the chance for an item to drop and the actual amount of times that item is created in the game. Prices go where they go. Some things are rare and cheap. Other items are common and expensive.
Out of curiosity... how many purples have you found?
I wish I could buy a Ferrari for $25. But I can't. It's not Ferrari's fault. It's not the dealer's fault. Nobody needs to change anything about how cars are manufactured and marketed. I'm certainly not expecting anyone to "nerf Ferrari" or force them to flood the market with their cars so that it's so oversupplied I can pay however little I want.
The price in a market like the one in CoX is simple. It's the price that a seller is willing to accept that matches what a buyer is wililng to pay.
If the purple set is selling for 160Mil, its because someone is willing to pay that much for it. If you aren't willing to pay that much, then you'll probably need to look at another set for your skill that's more in your price range.

Wrong answer, wrongboy!
You have to find something where the recipe is 55K or less, the salvage is under 100K, and the crafting cost is 450K, and the crafted item goes for 5 million or more.
That's 4 million profit each. You have close to 20 slots. Throw up ten, get ingredients for ten more, and THEN go farm.
I'm going to give you a number of hints:
1) There were at least three different recipes like that last night.
2) They were Level 50.
3) They were Yellow.
4) One was ranged, one was melee, and one was a heal.

Heh,
Even if you lowball your listings you can make mad inf just by pushing the enhancements out in volume.
It doesn't really take much effort to leverage uncommon recipes into purples. Its so easy a caveman can do it.

I'd actually say farming is a decent solution here if you are doing it right. The price purples are going for and the ease to have one drop with the right build that moves at the right speed could really make it a decent way to spend a half an hour per day.
Last time I did it over the course of a month shooting for 45 minutes a day 5 days a week. (I was bored) I ended up with I think 33 stashed and 5 used by the time I was done. When I was a bit more active in looking to make money off the market alone I'd spend probably around 30 minutes looking over things, putting out bids, crafting, selling, checking out new niches, etc and I don't think my yields were anywhere near 150 ish million every two days (sometimes every day depending on drops)
Sure farming requires more work, but sweeping the walls or the shadow shard has always been kind of fun to me. And with the pay out on good purple drops? It seems like a decently worthwhile use of time to pull in that kind of influence.
*Note* also, with the chance for pool C drops from bosses there is that added chance for an extra jackpot or high selling item.
(And yes Marketing will always be easier, but a decent farmer may be faster with the current prices)

Wait, what? You put in roughly 20 days' work times 45 minutes = 15 hours of play time. In 15 hours you got 38 purples? That's a purple every 24 minutes.
If Paragonwiki is right and the chance for a purple drop is roughly 1 in 5000, and your drop rate was roughly that average that'd mean you were killing over 200 mobs a minute on average, nonstop. Every minute you spent resting, looking around, taking a drink, traveling, would mean that in the remaining minutes you had to make up for lost time.
Either the Paragonwiki-sourced drop rate is off, or you're dramatically misremembering the amount of time you put in, or the number of purples you got, or the random number generator freakin' LOVES you. Probably the latter, you lucky [censored]. [EDIT: of course, a possibility I left off originally is that the guy may just be an absolute buzzsaw killing machine.]
For the average player working the market in addition to playing/farming is a far quicker way to get those purples than just farming alone.

You were right there was more than 45 minutes some days. I didn't exactly spell it out quite that clearly.

I was assuming about 1 drop every two days. But on the weekends I kind of went nuts with free time and farmed my brains out. Some times getting as many as 5 drops over the course of one long play session. I figure at 45 minutes a day 5 days a week you should be able to score as many as 15 or so over the course of a month.
But yeah there was a bit of luck, sometimes it being one every 45 minute run. Other times it'd be one every other day. But most of the time was made up on the weekend where there was much more time invested. Sorry for the misleading statement on my part.
In related news, on lap two of the walls a Hecatomb chance for negative dropped!! Sadly I'm a pack rat and just ended up stashing it in the bin.
*edit*
If I remember when I started to keep track of how many things I was killing the drop rate was somewhere around 1 in 4100 I think, but taking out bosses might skew that slightly as they were factored in with minions and LT's
you can't come to the market forums and say "cheaper". too many greedy people here for that and you'll just get flamed. trust me. (i agree wityh you though) everything is too high. i'll never spend those prices.

Which do you think is more important?
A) Items should drop more OR
B) The devs should take actions to force prices to be lower in the current market scenario with current levels of item generation
You can't choose both. Which is more important?
Instead of [censored] about how high the purples are, look at how much you can sell stuff for right now. Look around and find a couple things that you can buy cheap and sell high. Rinse, Lather, Foam at the mouth, repeat.
It is soooo easy to profit right now that you will have your choice of purples in no time.
Pro-tip: Place reasonable* bids and just let them sit** there.
* Reasonable means somewhere above what they were 3 months ago, but not as high as the "outrageous" cost today. Don't expect a Ragnarok for $5,000,000
** Let it sit there. Don't look at it. Let the calendar roll a month or two before you go look if you have to, just don't expect a "Bought" in the time it takes to load into Talos and get to the WW, or Cap for the BM.

It's amazing that with so many threads on the front page right now about people giving away or straight up destroying inf, you're generalizing everyone on this forum as greedy. Simply amazing.
Smurphy is right (or course) that even if the prices were forced cheaper, you'd STILL never have one because people would just be selling them in public channels for the going rate (which is SET by the buyers). Alternately, they'd be snatched up so fast in most cases that you'll never see one. If MORE of them drop, the price will go down naturally AND more people will have access to them.
My points were actually... if you choose A you should complain to the developers, not the marketeers.
If you choose B then that doesn't solve anything. Forced lowering of pricing does not work. There are still only X items in existence. Only that amount of people are going to get the item. Now people who are willing and able to pay the artificially lowered price won't be able to obtain the item.
Instead of "I can't afford this so I can't have it" you get "I can afford it but I can't have it. Accomplishing nothing.
The moral of the story is whine to Positron... not the marketeers.
Just remimber if they Cap prices like a white salvage at 250, I will Vender it over losing the 10% in WW fees. People will stop posting items and making side markets a place to make X times more money as ppl look for a way toget it.
as soon as you pay the buy it noa price, your setting that up for someone else.

Great, then you'll never get the purples, and your toon will never be as good as mine. I really don't care, because someone else will pay those prices. Neener neener neener!
Now that's an ebil response.
I'll let you in on a little secret, more of teh nefarious farmers doing their thing would drive that price down. With more farmers producing more supply, us ebil marketeers would be competing with one another, stabilizing the markets and driving the prices down. I do trade in purples, and I'll tell you, there's nothing I CAN do to bring prices down. The prices get driven up by BUYERS that are competing to make sure that they have the highest bid in on a rare item. I could put a Panacea proc up for 1 inf, and it would still probably sell for hundreds of millions.

Don't confuse markets with stores. Players set prices for everything in the markets. No one forces anyone else to buy anything. If you think an item is overly rare, the solution is for the devs to up the drop rate. The thing is, Posi has already stated he wants purples to remain ultra-rare. He doesn't see it as a natural right of every level 50 character to eventually purple-out their character. If your vision is different, take it up with him. Don't blame it on the market.
