A- Useful to endgame trials, mission teams, raids, or taskforces,
B- Able to be built to perform any impressive bragging-rights stunts,
C- Capable of being useful in PvP, or
D- Useful for anything other than the occasional nostalgic Steel Canyon fire?

    Thankye kindly in advance.
I'll be following this thread closely as I have a level 38 Ice/Ice and I am extremely underwhelmed. I had high hopes when I rolled it ages ago, but have since felt like it doesn't solo that well as the slows don't seem to do much for blaster survival. So needless to say my finger has been hovering over the delete button for quite some time.

They say that ice is single target king, but I know that is just a myth as Fire is still better at single target.

Another problem I have had with Ice is sure the attacks animate fast, but the projectile still take a while longer then fire/AR/archery to reach the target resulting in it feeling slow. One of the reasons I have trouble playing psy I hate slow projectiles.

Second, Dark Blast is specifically mentioned as being "a fun control centric blast set for Blasters." and since we already know it's losing Dark Pit, if it ALSO loses TT then the -only- control it'd have is a single target hold and the Nightfall/Torrent mashup. Two powers does not a "control centric" set make.
Finally (and semi-non-seriously), screw Soul Tentacles and it's skinny-*** cone. (And while we're at it, screw Nightfall and it's even skinnier cone.)
I for one hopes beyond all that TT makes it into Dark Blast. Because I don't think I would have the patience to wait until level 44 to get it from soul mastery.

Thought I can say if I make a dark blaster it will probably be Dark Dark and I will more then likely get soul mastery so I can double stack tentacles. >

    +1

I don't hate knock back, but I don't care for it much either. For example I Build Up - Aim and then click my Rain of Arrows and some dufus wanders up and uses some AOE knock back power, most of which do crap damage, on the group. 2 seconds later my lovely 1000+ points of damage rain drops on an empty area. Most of the time knockback results in mobs taking longer to take down due to the fact that every ones AOEs become less effective.

I still vote that all AOE's that KB should be changed to KD. Single target KB powers can be left as is, because if some one is using single target attacks on an enemy they probably plan on finishing that one off.

Nope only one power would need dropped. Because they would already be dropping Taunt for Placate.
  5. For those keeping count here are the new combination totals:

    Code:
    Current Combinations:

    Corruptors 100
    Defenders 100
    Brutes 99
    Tankers 88
    Scrappers 80
    Controllers 72
    Stalkers 70
    Dominators 63
    Blasters 60
    Masterminds 48

    ********************

    New Combinations:

    Brutes 130
    Corruptors 121
    Defenders 121
    Tankers 108
    Scrappers 108
    Controllers 80
    Stalkers 80
    Blasters 77
    Dominators 63
    Masterminds 54
Looks like MM's get the shaft again, odd considering they have the most sets that could be proliferated quickly. Sonic, Rad, Cold, Kinetics

Though I am still happy to see more sets proliferated, it would have been nice to see MM's get more then one considering how far behind the rest of the pack they are to begin with.
  6. I saw someone compared blasters to doms as far as power combination choices. Technically blasters currently have less choice then doms. Doms currently have 63 combinations available, while blasters only have 60 combinations.

When you look at it from that angle Masterminds should be b**ching the most because they currently only have 48 choices and after the proliferation they will have a whopping 54 combinations.
  7. So if I am reading this right then Dark Blast will have Tenebrous Tentacles? That means we can have Tenebrous Tentacles and Soul Tentacles? If so saaaawheeeet!

    Step Child Woes

To the OP, the person that rejected you due to your powerset is a tool. Knockback is a part of the game and we all need to deal with it. I've played scrappers, brutes, and tanks and know that it can be annoying when stuff you are beating on gets knocked away. I usually just switch targets to something closer when this happens. Probably why I am not a very good tank though.

On the subject of knockback I've said it once and I'll say it again.

People talk about getting the right angles, shooting from the top, putting them in a corner/against a wall. Yada Yada Yada... In my experience its a waste of DPS time. By the time you get this said perfect angle you could have been applying the damage and had the mob dead. Plus, on indoor maps shooting from above is rarely available as the ceiling is too low for cones. Finding a corner, sure if one is available. And walls well they still tend to bounce off of them and in every direction.

I wish they would change the AOE powers of Energy blast to KD they can keep KB on the single target attacks.
  9. Though on second glance it looks like we are locked in to not getting a proper dark blast primary due to the Soul Mastery Ancillary Pool. It has both Night Fall and Soul Tentacles.

I agree seems like something like this could work well:

    Primary
    1. Dark Blast
    2. Gloom
    3. Dark Obliteration
    4. Aim
    5. Tenebrous Tentacles
    6. Night Fall
    7. Moonbeam
    8. Petrifying Gaze
    9. Blackstar

    Secondary
    1. Gravimetric Snare
    2. Smite
    3. Shadow Maul
    4. Build Up
    5. Death Shroud
    6. Dark Consumption
    7. Life Drain (or) Siphon Life
    8. Torrent
    9. Midnight Grasp
  11. Have you considered Electric? I know it doesn't seem like the best choice but I think it is a very strong choice. It's AOE's are PBAOE and AOE, no cones to worry about. I hate cones with Kins, I try to do anything to avoid having to do the in melee out of melee dance.

I would stay away from Archery at this point if it were me, what used to be my favorite set is now not that fun to play at incarnate levels. By the time the damage drops everything is dead. I have to run ahead to groups to get ROA to be useful, but then I loose the protection of the team tank.

I personally have a Dark/Kin, terrible combo. Not sure why I haven't deleted it and started a new, probably because its 50 and the only 50 kin I have villain side.

Found the answer, it is unresistable. It applies directly to their HP.

  15. I am torn between Demons and Ninjas.

I had a Ninjas/Dark and I still found it painful to keep my pets alive. So I thought Therm might help.

or I could go Demons which I know levels smoothly and overall I know the set is well thought out.

Thoughts/Ideas please advise. If you have a different suggestion feel free to post it. I have played all the MM primaries to their final upgrade so I am pretty familiar with the feel of all of them.

I am basically looking for the set that will have the best synergy with Therm. I wish Cold were available, that would be a No-Brainer with Ninjas!!!

I don't usually worry about AOE attacks:

1.) Enemies are notoriously bad at effectively using AOE's.
2.) AOE's don't pack nearly the damage as most single target attacks.
3.) AOE's don't recharge as quickly so most enemies only manage to get one off before they die.

As an avid blaster player, I always build them for ranged and to heck with AOE. If you are in Melee more often PBAOE's can become more of a concern, because there are quite a few PBAOE's that hit really hard. And they are harder to avoid. But at the same time Smashing and Lethal will provide you with a larger benefit in melee as most of the melee in this game has smashing or lethal in it.
  18. I only want to comment on the idea of using "Ignite", its a waste. Even with the slows at their cap its only has a 4ft radius so enemies will flee from it before it is done doing damage. You would need to have an enemy immobilized to fully utilize it. Adding additional animation time.

My suggestion is to pretend this power doesn't exist and ignore it. Between Oil Slick, Flame Thrower, and Full Auto their should be little left to deal with. What is left can be Buckshot'd, and M30'd to death.
  19. Dual Pistols (DP) Executioner's Shot vs Piercing Rounds

I was wondering with these two powers being so close in damage, is it really worth having both in your build? It seems like the multiple target, range and animation advantage would make Piercing Rounds the better choice?

    Thoughts, Ideas?

I thought that was the whole point of having a flexible costume creator.
Agreed, but I doubt this will change. Seems to be getting worse with each pack. From what I can tell all that matters is that they get you to buy the pack, so it only needs to look good on the site and in the video. Notice how all of the characters only have white shirts and sleeves. Hmmmm I wonder why that is, didn't notice it untill I bought the pack and started fiddling around in the costume maker and I couldn't get the colors to match from shirt to sleeve...!!! So I went and looked at the pics again and sure enough white shirts, white sleeves.. SLOPPY
  21. I also noticed that development of costume pieces in issues has pretty much come to stand still since they started charging for these. I would love for them to take a look a champions and copy some of their tights patterns. We haven't had any decent classic super hero tights patterns in ages.

I would support this statement if I felt like they were giving it their all on these things. Ufortunately though I feel like they half-a** most of these packs. Its like they get so close to making it perfect and then they quit.

But I keep buying them cause I'm a sucker. It's almost as if all they care about is making them look good in the video and advertisement pics.

Textures not matching, colors not matching, can't properly tint the back-packs. Sideburns don't even meet up with the hats that are in the pack for crying out loud. It's sloppy and you can't tell till after you buy the stupid stuff. Was this ever on test? How they could release it with so many obvious issues is beyond me. I could overlook the fact that it might not match or mix perfectly with current costume pieces, but for the stuff in the pack not to work together properly is really disappointing.
  23. OK, Why the heck can't I get the Classic Steampunk 01 Sleeves to match the jackets, sloppy, just sloppy! Now I notice that all the pics used to advertise show those sleeves as white with the jacket/shirt white. No wonder, as its the only color combo that even closely matches.

    BOOOOOOO!

Poison gas arrow is one of the few damage mitigators that TA actually gets. The sleep effect is worthless, but the -20% damage is really where this power shines. Honestly it probably only needs one slot though. As a TA toon there really isn't much you can do to keep a team alive but this is one of them.

Also I just realized that you have a chance for damage in flash arrow. Probably not a good idea to have any procs in that power at all. That power won't notify the mobs that you put it on them unless there is a proc. This power is very useful when mobs are too close together, to keep them from noticing you as you take out the closest mob. If you put proc in it, it is pretty much guaranteed they will agro.

I find that my archers with around 30% ranged defense is plenty. As with vengeance all I really have to do is make sure I am not the first to die. POP that baby and I am golden.
  25. Looking it over I spotted a couple of things.

I am not sure why you have world of confusion, because with Archery/TA you should rarely if ever be in melee. From the build I can only assume you got this for the ranged defense. You could look at the power mastery pool and look at getting Power Build up, Temp Invul, and Total Focus. If you are going to have a Melee Power might as well be one that packs a wollop. You can slot it with Mako's bite and still get pretty good ranged defense from that set. It also does energy damage so in case your blazing arrow misses you will have a back up to ignite your patch.

No AIM, that is a loss of pretty solid damage buff. The chance for build up in Tactics is nice but really its not reliable and I would probably swap it for vengeance which unless you only solo is much more useful. Even with only one slot.

Consider Swapping Combat Jumping/Super Jump for Hover, Fly. You will have an easier time staying at ranged, you will have better visibility of combat field. Also it won't use any more slots then you have in that combo now.

Acid Arrow doesn't have any accuracy. Probably ok, but not how I usually build.

Six Slots in glue arrow seems like a waste, just for a defense bonus. Same goes for Flash Arrow.

And a word of warning from someone that has both a 50 TA/Archery defender and a 50 Archery/Energy blaster. The time it takes for ROA to apply its damage will force you to have to stay ahead of your team mates. Otherwise with most fast moving high level teams you will find that your ROA will be landing on a field of already dead enemies. Also although I love TA it will feel like you will be behind the ball as far as other sets on fast moving teams due to the time it takes to animate all your debuffs.

So those are my thoughts. Overall your build will work, but I would at the minimum switch to fly and go with Power Mastery.
