I am torn between Demons and Ninjas.

I had a Ninjas/Dark and I still found it painful to keep my pets alive. So I thought Therm might help.

or I could go Demons which I know levels smoothly and overall I know the set is well thought out.

Thoughts/Ideas please advise. If you have a different suggestion feel free to post it. I have played all the MM primaries to their final upgrade so I am pretty familiar with the feel of all of them.

I am basically looking for the set that will have the best synergy with Therm. I wish Cold were available, that would be a No-Brainer with Ninjas!!!

I would say daemons. The resists will stack nicely and it will mesh well thematically with /therm.

Question regarding body guard and resistances?

If a pet has the damage resistance shields on them do they take less damage from body guard? aka making my shields live longer? or is body guard damage unresistable?

Can't remember off the top of my head but I know that info is in Master Z's guide.

I would say Demond has the best synergy with /Thermal because Demons themselves already have lethal/smashing/fire resistance so the shields stack nicely.

Another one maybe Merc because Mec has S/L resistance already which can stack with thermal shields.

Just don't combo Thermal with Ninja because they have no resistance and the fire shields' resistance won't be enough to keep them alive.

Resistance shields work well if you have ways to keep healing (hence two healing powers in thermal). With Ninja's low health and almost no resistance (only Oni has some), the fire shields won't work well unless you have other friends that can stack the shields.

I think even Necro can benefit from Thermal as they have no fire resistance at all.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Found the answer, it is unresistable. It applies directly to their HP.

The shields would help with AOE Attacks so they wouldn't be getting that double whammy from AOE attacks. Well they would get the double hit but it would help out nonetheless.

Bodyguard Damage Mitigation: When set to Bodyguard mode, the Mastermind and his pets share damage from any attack that the Mastermind takes damage from. Each pet takes one 'share' of the damage, and the Mastermind himself takes two 'shares'. This is in addition to any damage that the pets themselves might incur from Area attacks.
  • Example: If a Mastermind has 3 pets set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with a 100 point attack, each pet will take 20 points of the damage, and he himself will take 40 points.
  • Example 2: If a Mastermind has 3 pets set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with an Area Effect attack for 10 points of damage, then each pet will take 2 points of damage, and he himself will take 4 points. Pets that were also in the Area of Effect will take an additional 10 points each, as normal.

I would say Demons Thermal as well. You can mix both colors for some unique looks

There is a lot of synergy in many areas of Demons/Thermal. The mastermind's resistance, the resist shields from thermal, and the resist aura from the ember demon. The heal aura from thermal is nice for topping off the mastermind's and pets' health, but the thermal demon also gets a PbAoE large radius heal with the level 32 upgrade which he is NOT shy about using. Overlapping damage mitigation is VERY useful, esp if the MM gets mezzed. Thermal set also has forge. It should be emphasized, the Demon Prince does do significant damage, but buffing the damage coming from the hellfire gargoyle's damage aura should be a priority. Myself, I find that rotating forge and living hellfire whichever is available on whichever of the two pets is unbuffed is a critical tactic.

For those that go necro/thermal, it is a mighty combination as the thermal shields cover a big gap in their inherent resistances. After level 32 the necros have a modest self-heal which supports the aura heal from thermal. Remember when you take the extracted pet at level 18, he is a good candidate for forge also.

Reading the MM Forum will back me on much of this but: Ninjas die fast with any secondary but FF. Their Def is not good and the buffs don't help much. FF can make them much more survivable but I personally prefer the theme of Daemons and Thermal.

Personally I've never gotten Ninjas past lvl 22. Too painful to talk about...

Demon/thermal go for it.

When I leveled up my demon/thermal mm in prea, she was doing awesome, and when I got her to 22 I kind of got tired of applying shields all the time and Dark performer didn't really fit her theme. It's funny but in the end when I changed her to a demon/dark I named her Jade Performer.... XD Ah irony.

But ya paper Ninja's are good for manga, but not CoX.
