The game still makes every attack root your character. Being able to manipulate things on your end, or "get lucky", doesn't change that fact. Finding a way to skip the rooting animations doesn't mean he was wrong; it's just a workaround for the rooting mechanic that exists for all attack powers.
EDIT: clarification
[/ QUOTE ]
My original statement is still accurate, regardless of how you're trying to spin it. A character is supposed to be rooted during animations, but that doesn't always happen. Also there doesn't need to be manipulation 'on your end' for this to happen. It can happen just from server hiccups.
Yes the game mechanic usually functions normally. However, that doesn't invalidate my statement.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not the one spinning here. The fact is, every attack power in the game has a root time and every attack power in the game WILL root your character unless you manipulate the situation or the server has a "hiccup". These occurrences do not validate anything regarding your "correction" about his statement. They're things that happen outside of the coding and can't be helped. Hence, you're wrong, but if you want to jump back and edit your arguments again so that you can appear to say "I know it's supposed to work that way, but...", go ahead.
Every attack has a root time, period. Something happening during said root time that causes the root time to not trigger for some reason doesn't change that simple fact. -

[ QUOTE ]
Actually, every attack (when activated) will root you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually no. Attacks are supposed to root, but if the animation somehow gets skipped, then the player does not get immobilized.

Yes, I logged in. The servers were nothing but that on both sides. The forums were nothing but that. Defensive stances are easy. It's like tempting me to feed you ammo.

Ah, anecdotal evidence. Because we all know that's SO valid...

See? Ammo. 'I beg you to prove it. I have a massive argument ready and waiting.' If it wasn't the majority, it wouldn't have been an issue, and they would have changed nothing, not to mention everything already noted from the vast evidence of behavior.

I love these types of argumentative people. Too smug and too stuck on "obvious clues" to realize facts or bother supporting their claims with hard evidence.
Please continue. I have 4 hours before I'm gone for the next 4 days and I need a laugh.

Same for me. Thankfully he mentioned zero evidence of the opposite so the irony is thick.

Yes.
Keep in mind of the "rule of 5", meaning that once you get 5 bonuses that have the same name, any more with that name won't help you. An example is Ultimate Recharge Bonus (the name for the Purple +Recharge). It's a 10% bonus, and you can only stack five of those 10% bonuses before additional 10% bonuses do nothing and are ignored.
To make it simpler, 5 sets of LoTG will be all you can have of those particular set bonuses.
I suggest you grab Mid's Hero Builder to plan out IO builds. It will tell you, once you look at the Set Bonus option after slotting your powers with sets, if any of your set bonuses are being ignored due to the "rule of 5". -

Now, about those @#$@ energy blasters 8p
[/ QUOTE ]
"Good" Energy Blasters will kill whatever they've knocked away from you. As an Energy Blaster, with the exception of Energy Torrent, I can't help it if stuff gets knocked away when I start attacking. Realize that most of the time, the target that's getting knocked away from you is A: not attacking a damn thing, and B: is going to die because I'm shooting it, and you'll be a happier player.
Honestly, all this "knockback hate" gets on my nerves. There are bad players who use secondary effects in a detrimental way all the time and it's not just limited to knockback. Knockback just happens to be the most visually obvious, much like how heals are praised because of the floaty green number spam. -

I tried to take a screenshot whilein creator but it doesnt show up in my screenshots.
Also, he said he has the Valkyrie pack but noone has any pieces of that pack for him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Vyriss does. He's using the Valkyrie shoulders, though I personally avoided the black/red combination. It's too common in my opinion and a bit cliche when it comes to "dark, mysterious costume colors". His costume would look better with another color combination, IMO.
And I told you how to get your screenshot of the creator out into something to edit it. It won't show up in your screenshot folder BUT it will be on your clipboard. Just press Ctrl+V (the shortcut for Paste) in an image editor, or Paint, and go to town. -

It just occurred to me that if Going Rogue allows you to play Corrupters hero side, defenders may become obsolete.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, they won't.
Everyone is making claims that one AT will make the other "mirror" AT obsolete. It is impossible for both Defenders and Corruptors to make each other obsolete.
They each do things differently and have a different focus. -
[ QUOTE ]
Back in old pvp if a scrapper killed a brute or a vice versa, that means they were doing it wrong.
Nowadays? I dunno, haven't gone in besides for farming lately.
[/ QUOTE ]
In the "old days" of PvP, my Scrapper has only fought a single Brute in PvP. My MA/SR went one on one with a Stone/Stone Brute. It was the longest fight in my Scrapper's history, and even taking into consideration that a couple Stalkers tried to be funny (their AS attacks missed), I managed to take the Brute down. No idea if he "did something wrong" or I "did something right", but after that fight I swore never to fight a single Brute solo on that Scrapper again. It just takes way too long. -

The simplest and easiest way that the Dev's could put a stop the farming AE (And I am wholeheartedly for this idea) is to put a complete stop to gaining xp for individual mobs, and drops ticket output as well, But only to this point; Finishing the AE mish/Arc will give a set amount # of tickets plus a set amount # of xp for how difficult the mish/arc is.
personaly, this makes sense to do. it would definately put a stop to farming AE, which I am ALL for!
Thats my 2 inf...
Flame on
[/ QUOTE ]
I farm, i always finish my farm story arcs for the ticket boost.
I dont get your point here.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be because this person doesn't understand how the AE is used for farming. There is no downside to finishing an AE farm mission, and in fact, they're designed to be finished in record times. You can just grab it again and again to keep doing the same mission over and over. Your fix that you're so wholeheartedly in favor of will fix nothing.
I do like the "Flame on" bit at the end. Real cute. I suggest learning about the thing you're campaigning against before trying to suggest fixes to it. You're not the only poster I've had to make this request to, mind (name withheld because saying it would be pointless).
"Flame on" indeed. -
[ QUOTE ]
Knockback is only ever a burden if an enemy flies into the next mob and causes double aggro
just have the tanker Taunt them back otherwise
[/ QUOTE ]
Aggro does not work that way. The only time a mob knocked into another mob will draw additional aggro is if someone chases said mob down and pulls aggro by being near the second spawn. I'm not sure if CoH is "unique" in this regard (mobs that run or are knocked to other spawns doesn't cause said spawn to aggro), but most newer players seem to be surprised when a runner doesn't aggro the 3 spawns he just ran through trying to get away from you. -
[ QUOTE ]
Laxx I may have to borrow elements of the one you made for a character i'm making. I've been trying to put together a good costume taht looks like ... well for lack of a better word a throw together. Something a 17 year old could put together in his basement to fight crime. Something that doens't require fancy pads or spandex or a big awesome mask you know?
[/ QUOTE ]
Go for it, heh. "My" costumes aren't some precious or limited kind of thing where only the elite I deem worthy are allowed to emulate. Any chance I get to flex the creative muscle I do so.
Robert_B:
I see nothing inherently wrong with your idea, but nothing about it really stands out either. All in all, it's kinda "basic", but not bad. I'm personally not a huge fan of the chest emblem, but that's more personal preference on my part -- I tend to avoid chest emblems except where it's appropriate for a theme or if I can integrate it into a costume to appear like a modified pattern rather than a sticker.
But the important part about your costumes is whether or not you like it. It won't matter how many other people like your idea if you personally don't care much for it. -
[ QUOTE ]
LOL. How are you guys taking pics at the create screen? I know how in game. Is it the same way?
[/ QUOTE ]
I personally use Alt+PrintScreen myself out of habit, but just plain old PrintScreen probably works anyway. What happens is your screenshot is saved to the clipboard, so you can just Ctrl+V it into something like Paint and do what you want with it from there. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yours was nice Laxx. Prolly my fave so far.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, an ego boost. I really don't need any more of those, lol. -
[ QUOTE ]
yep I did read that, but it left it open to interpretation. It sounded like it could be dom like. I do like the dom mechanic where you power up a skill and unleash its hellbent wake. Maybe I'm just odd but it adds that feeling of... 'release the awesome' (10 points if you can name the movie reference without googling)
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what you mean by "dom-like", but I'm going to assume you mean it's like their inherent power Domination and not referencing the power itself when used by a Dominator (Doms have access to Power Boost in a couple sets). Energy Manipulation, for Blasters, contains Power Boost. It's a click power that when used, boosts secondary effects. There is no "bar" fill; no obscure way to activate it. Consider it akin to using Build Up or Aim before you launch an attack, except your goal is to boost, say, the Hold Duration of a power or the Defense Boost of an armor shield.
I don't think Power Boost boosts the effects of Knockback anymore, though, so that should probably be updated. -

Thanks guys!
I should have mentioned that the only expansions that I have is the Valkery (or howeveer you spell it) expansion, though I think I will have to look into getting the magic one.
Please keep them comming!

The good thing about the costume I came up with is that the cape isn't required at all. It still looks okay without it. Just, to me, when you say "mysterious" costume.. I think of a long flowing cape and I was trying to avoid the trench boat.
I do wish my screenshot wasn't so dark, though. -
I was merely pointing out that this thread had no point.
Carry on. -
Well, assuming I'm not "too late", here's something I came up with. I realize you wanted "dark" colors, but I had to throw in a third contrasting color to keep it interesting, but it's a darker shade of said color so hopefully it's acceptable. I just kept the scales untouched and I didn't bother with the blade customization since that's personal preference/concept driven anyhow.
Costume
Hopefully, it's readable. The shot taken was darker than my screen is, and I really hope the lines I put in directing to the color combinations aren't too confusing. -

The Hollows have actually been made a little less horrific lately. They've smoothed out the spawns, changed mission locations, added a hospital, trainer and other facilities.

If your level 45 character gets 3 levels in one run of one mission, or you regularly get the "ticket cap" message, you're probably in an inappropriate mission. Finish it once then report it in the window that pops up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please don't do this. The quisling recommending this is obviously working on his hall monitor badge, and wants to grief players that don't play the way that he wants them to. If you find yourself hitting the ticket cap or gaining lots of levels , I recommend repeating the mish a few times. If there is no EXPLOIT, like the rikti comm officers, everything is OK. I've repeated such missions several times, and have never had a problem. Don't let those who don't like farming conflate teh ideas of farming and exploits. They just want to criminalize playing the game efficiently.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a perfect example of the "chicken little/exploiter" mentality. This person is trying to confuse farming with exploiting.
See how he starts off using the insult "quisling" in a veiled attempt to make the person asking the GM's to check out a possible exploit as the bad guy.
Players DON'T have the ability or authority to determine if an MA mission/arc is an exploit. Only the GM's can do that.
Notice how he encourages you to run mission/arc several times rather instead of notifying the GM's and letting them do their job. He wants you to do that because the more often you run a questionable mission/arc the more likely the GM's will see you as having dirty hands and punish you as well as the mission/arc creator.
Finally notice how he is attempting to blur the lines between farming and exploits by implying that farming is seen as bad, and using exploits is playing efficiently.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I find it humorous that he makes a "hall monitor badge" reference like it's supposed to mean anything. The guy made such a claim against me in a thread about Trademark/Copyright Infringement. He's clearly the type that thinks his game works in a vacuum and his actions affect no one but himself. His attempt at word play, while obvious and ineffective, was also humorous. Trying to mix up "Farming" and "Exploiting"... classic.
Many of these people forget that an exploit, by definition, has to be allowed by the game code to occur. This should be obvious, but they often use that as a defense when they're caught. See: "The game allows it, so I shouldn't get in trouble over it!" The problem is, it's not their game to decide what's reasonable use of game code and what isn't, and when they cross the line that the devs set, they'll get knocked back to the other side. Forcefully. Input comment about "we don't know where the line is until we cross it!" "defense" here.
Actually, don't bother with that. It's painfully obvious if you're exploiting the game code, and that's ignoring the fact that if such a hard list were created all the exploiters would make their missions a few millimeters off the "line". It's left vague for a reason, and many rules are intentionally vague specifically so they can catch more people under its umbrella while not appearing to be contradicting themselves when they punish certain people.
To end, I find posters like the one you quoted to be hilarious. This "fight da powa!" mentality always makes me laugh. -
[ QUOTE ]
I do not see a problem with a player running from lvl 1-50 in a short space of time if that player is a guildie from another game and they are familiar with the basic roles of MMOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
This would make more sense if we actually had those same roles. But we don't. It's a common point of argument on these forums and in-game whenever it's brought up, usually to the detriment of the person who makes the "I play X MMO, so I know I need Y, Z, and Q characters in order to play!" We just don't work that way here.
As to the topic of this thread, I'm probably in the same boat another poster made about how the MA probably gives "too much" reward for custom critters as it is, specifically in cases where you're able to stack the mobs in your favor. Unfortunately, there really isn't a way around that without limiting the options for everyone else. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you go with a stalker your better bet would be EM/Nin. The self heal is just as good as WP's and it's a looser build (more powers you can skip to get PvP specific powers like Phase Shift)
They all have their upsides and downsides. A good player can play a bad build and still do well. On the flip side a bad player can play the best build in the world and get owned.
Try them all out and see which one's playstyle you like the best. No sense in PvPing with a character you don't enjoy playing.
EDIT: I'm not giving you specific advice because I'm not that good of a PvPer and I don't feel qualified to tell you what to roll.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't have much to add except that, according to Mid's, the Ninjitsu heal and the Willpower heal (Stalker, obviously) are exactly the same except for activation time. The WP heal is about .27 seconds faster. This doesn't actually contradict anything you said in a real sense, but it may be something to consider. Though the ability to skip more powers in Nin does help a lot.
As far as "the best", it won't matter if you're not good. Sorry to be so blunt, but you're far better off making a character you love to play and learning how to PvP on that character first before you try jumping into PvP with one of a handful of "uberpwnbuilds". You'll only frustrate yourself otherwise. -

Second, how about you you proper english.
[/ QUOTE ]
Am I the only one who found this funny?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but you're exceedingly late to that party.
Freaks were farmed constantly long before the MA appeared because, as a group, they're "relatively easier" at a higher level compared to other potential foes, they give bonus XP per defeat, and they have a chance to step back up so you can knock them down again to gain even more XP.
If you think a Freak farm is "the new meow" you haven't been playing this game for very long.
